It’s a very vulnerable album and the lyricism is great. The music is very catchy.

A great album full of some of her best tracks. Vigilante **** Lavender Haze, You’re on your own kid, maroon, karma, and bejeweled are all perfect songs. A handful of okay tracks are present, but overall great record.

Lack of development throughout the album. Only liked the opening track "Lavender Haze" which is ironic because Zoe Kravtiz co-wrote it showing Taylor needs to actually work with black women more for good quality songs! There are some nice sounds for sure, and the production is clean. However, I found this to be overwhelmingly...blah. Just kind of boring, several of the songs sound too similar to really tell them apart. There are a few decent tracks buried in here, but mostly she uses the same tone for many of the tracks, with the same laid back production and lack of energy that I really struggled remembering any individual track soon after listening to it. I know she'll get a lot of 10 ratings no matter what she puts out, but come on, be honest, this is mediocre Taylor at best. To me the 5 rating is perfect, it's about the lowest that Taylor will ever get, she's just too talented to get lower, but this album offers nothing new or exciting. Not one that I will really look forward to revisiting outside of 2-3 stand out tracks. Expand

Embracing a more experimental pop field - synth-pop, Swift tries to do something better - but I don't think she can. Overall, most of these songs are boring and repetitive - despite very well written, as usual. It's a shame that this was the root she chose after the brilliant "Folklore".

She just never disappoints. Perfect mix of the vibes of 1989, darkness of Reputation, and lyricism of Folklore and Evermore. Somehow she managed to make an album that sounds nothing like Taylor Swift, and, at the same time, SO much like Taylor Swift.

Swift always comes back with not only a hit song but a hit album. This album brings back her pop genre. As she’s being doing a lot of folk and country lately, this definitely bombarded with great pop hits. Karma and Midnight rain are definitely the best songs form the album after would’ve could’ve should’ve.

I just love the whole album. I’m not a Taylor Swift fan, or wasn’t, but this album made me look her as never before. The album is very consistent, personal and rich. Lot of nuances in her voice. Anti-hero, you’re ok your own, kid, bejeweled and the Great War my personal favorites.

I have not liked a taylor swift album since 1989. I was in high school then. I really think she needs to stop writing songs because many of these tracks felt uninspiring and made me lose brain cells. for example the lyrics in Anti-Hero saying "i feel like everyone is a sexy baby". At times, I did not understand the stylistic choices Taylor made in producing her songs with Jack Antonoff, such as the excessive use of vocal-bending in Labyrinth and Dear Reader. Another thing this album lacked was longer songs akin to all too well, Dear John, ivy, happiness, or last kiss, which personally have always been my favourites on Taylor's album. All in all, definitely not a disappointment, and an interesting change in music style without sacrificing quality too much. Expand

Taylor Swift did it again. Exceeding my expectations, Midnights is an album that grows inside you over time. The album's retro style warms that part of her heart that misses the '80s. For Swift it's groundbreaking, as she tests and plays around with autotune a lot. Taylor has released some of my favorite albums of the years she drops like Red and Folklore, this being said people worship her. People will look over the flaws in her worst projects and act like they are masterpieces (Reputation and 1989.) She has an infinite supply of money and yet continues to have an uninspired production style, this is mainly because of Jack. The lyrics don't quite scratch that relatability of her old music or the depths of her newer folk inspired music. This puts her in a weird limbo of reliability and depth that does not work. Taylor's vocals are never that great in her pop inspired productions which again puts her in a poor space. If people did not overhype this I bet I would have appreciated it more. Expand

Taylor just proved how basic she is. If you listen to her discography, you’ll never know which album the song is from because everything sounds exactly the same, never changes. And the fact that she insists on bringing up one hundred different versions of the same song is really annoying.

It allows Swift to do what she has always wanted: make an album for its own sake that is received primarily as a work of art instead of a commercial entity or tabloid fodder.

While her 10th album doesn’t make instant classic status like 1989, and Evermore and Folklore remain her masterpieces, it is still an understated, beguiling look into the mind of one of the biggest pop stars of our age.
