The more this album is listened to, the more you recognize what a masterpiece it truly is. It’s impossible to remain unmoved by Namjoon’s words and philosophy.

I had high hopes for RM's first solo album, but I am a bit disappointed, to be honest. This feels like Mono 2.0 but with collabs. He shares his heart and understands the listener, yet never loses the authenticity of his message/his story. Well done Namjoon!

Tbh I wasn't expecting much from RM. I personally did not like his group music which tended to be more pop but when I saw Miss Erykah Badu, a legend in her respect, was on the album I had decided to give it a chance because she doesn't just work with anyone. Yun ft Erykah Badu was very 90s hip hop, was not expecting it, but very much loved it. I continued on with the album since I enjoyed Yun so much and most of the songs gave very different vibes. I decided to delve into the lyrics since when it comes to Rap, lyrics are 100% one of the most important components of the song, Closer and Change pt. 2 were the only songs in full English so I had to look for translations. The lyrics for WildFlower especially were beautiful, thoughtful, and sincere. I enjoyed the album full 10 for me. My favorite song was Yun of course my next two would be Closer and Hectic. Change Pt. 2 was probably my least favorite but still enjoyable nonetheless. He's made a fan out of me. Expand

The album is art, I sincerely can’t stop listening to it since it was released; As he said he wanted to be a poet he transcript that very well in his lyrics. To me is one of the best lyricists of my generation.

A truly amazing, genre-bending first solo album that incorporates different sides of the 28 year old who is Kim Namjoon. We see the efforts of the impressive poetry he has always incorporated into his music as the primary lyricist of BTS (aside from the English songs) especially in songs like Yun, Wildflower, No. 2, forg_tful, and even in more upbeat tracks like All Day there are deeper messages to be held. One thing that always impresses me is that Namjoon pays homage to the greats of the genre that inspired him—including the legendary Erykah Badu. The fact this collab even happened is impressive and a testament of him as an artist. Still Life is a collab with Anderson Paak, another big name in the funk/hiphop community. Songs like Closer, Change pt 2 and even Lonely offer insight into things often considered taboo for an “idol” to speak of. Often in the kpop industry it is a polished appearance that they have to keep up—they always love their fans no matter what they do, they always love performing and everything about it, they aren’t encouraged to be public about negative feelings and especially are unable to talk freely about relationships or intimacy. Closer is a song that hints at finding that intimacy and being caught up in a relationship that wasn’t necessarily expected. Change pt. 2 hints at possible infidelity by the one he sang about in Closer, as well as later in the song indicates his distaste with the people who try to label him and ignore his growth as a human (something even the fanbase “ARMY” is guilty of—as old interviews and incorrect info circulates endlessly in a loop despite the many years of time since).

Lonely is a simple track but with again, a message that is taboo for an idol to sing about. Namjoon indicated that Lonely was written when he was in the hotel room during the Las Vegas concerts in April of 2022. While tens of thousands of fans gathered for the event, he felt trapped and lonely in his apartment with nothing but “memories on the floor” and YouTube and Netflix for company. Instead of being able to have fun and move freely, he had to be holed up for the same reason he was there in the first place—his fame.

The progression of Closer to Change pt 2 to Lonely tells a story in and of itself. Ultimately even in the more straight-forward and simple tracks, like Hectic being about just a busy day-to-day life full of going through the motions and just living, there’s a message that elicits feelings of familiarity and relatability. Namjoon used and blended different genres to break the boundaries between them, something he has done for the span of his entire career. In fact, he said he was nervous to write some of these songs because they reveal a side of him he doesn’t say, but wants to be honest about the different sides of who he truly is. It takes courage to write honestly about the different sides of yourself even if they might seem simple to someone else. Ultimately this is an incredible album with many diverse tracks with something for anyone.

This is the album of Kim Namjoon as an honest 28 year old moving into his 30s, not just of RM the leader and main rapper of BTS. 10/10

I had really high hopes on this based on mono. but I was unfortunately a bit underwhelmed. Namjoon remains an incredible storyteller and this album flows well as a whole, taking on lighter themes and sound than his previous works. However I found some tracks to be unnecessary. Closer is probably the weakest to me as I found Paul Blanco's verse and voice to be a bit insufferable. Some of the hooks and vocals on the album didn't land well with me and I wish there was more Namjoon and less features as it is his first official solo album and something I was really looking forward to! Yun and No. 2 are very strong openers/enders to the project and I do feel it told a cohesive story even if it didn't connect with me as much as I had hoped. Expand

Some moments fall flat – Lonely is cloying, paint-by-numbers EDM-pop that doesn’t fully land. Still, Indigo is a polished collection that spans both pop and rap with confidence.
