Dua Lipa manages to consecrate herself as one of the most famous artists with her second studio album, demonstrating that her nostalgic sounds combine perfectly with the futuristic ones. Statics and singles are very well chosen.

Surely a good pop and dance album, but not the masterpiece that everyone says, not at all. Lyrics are boring and productions sometimes are pretty basic. But hey, that's just her second album and she got the potential to become one of the biggest pop star of this decade.

Banger after banger. But the later half of the album is kinda lame.
Modern generic pop, and the last 2 song is bad..

Normal Pop album. Good party music but not particularly innovative or deep. There's a distinct lack of the filler or garbage that one might find on other pop albums, which I guess is why it's getting reviewed so well. I, however, found the album a little disappointing since the high meta/user score led me to believe it would be more interesting. It's just fine.

As I listened the rest of the songs on the album, there are songs that I kinda skipped on the second listenings. I love the 80s style and the disco vibe. But half of the album is not doing it for me. The instrumental is so similar and the lyrics are just chatchy, not that meaningful. She writes hella good songs, but if I start to search for a meaning, there is not so much. Where I stopped enjoying this track list quite so much was in the final two songs where, on top of off-putting lyrics, I found the song structures to be mind-numbing. Also, it's nit-picky, but listening back to the title track on this thing, the Squidward-esque "fuuuturre" whispering came off kind of annoying. Otherwise I love that track.

Dua Lipa's choice of not inserting any featuring into this record pays off, because she always maintain the control over the attention of who's listening to her. However, the three ending tracks kind of left me unsatisfied: I appreciated Dua Lipa's struggle in not sounding redundant, which is however the reason why Break My Heart andGood in Bed sound quite weak and too familiar with other past pop songs; Boys Will Be Boys, instead, is definitely a good track, but I didn't get why it was put at the end of the record, where I did expect something more adrenaline, in order to leave the listener with a good feeling. FUTURE NOSTALIGA REVIEW

    1. Future Nostalgia - Great sound that sticks out from the rest of the album, but not to much for it not to fit in. Very strong album opener and the lyrics are amazing! 8/10

    2. Don't Start Now - I love the bass and the pre-chorus and the contrast between that part and the chours. I love the lyrics. It did kinda age after a while and its not a song that I listen as often, but still a rather strong song.
    7.5/10

    3. Cool - a sad sounding 80's/synthpop song but with happy lyrics. The sound sticks out, but the song itself is not as strong as many of the other songs on this album.
    6/10

    4. Physical - a 80's synthpop BANGER! I love it, but it kinda aged and it's a bit overrated. Strong single choice
    8/10

    5. Levitating - at my first listens, the song was good but not one of my faves. Now, the song has def grown on me and it's one of my faves from the album!
    9/10

    6. Pretty Please - I LOVE IT!! i love the lyrics, the soft and breathy vocals and the bass.
    8.5/10

    7. Hallucinate - one of the weaker songs on the album, in my opinion. It's not a skip, but not a song that I am eager to listen to. The chours is the best part.
    5/10

    8. Love Again - I dont know why, but at my first listen I hated this song, but now... this song is probobly my fave from the album. The lyrics, the beautiful strings and everything about this song is amazing. I love it so much!! The sample in the song gives it a nostalgic touth. AN UNDERRATED BOP!
    10/10

    9. Break My Heart - I love this song so much! I fell in love with it already on the first listen! l love the contrast and unexpecpted breaks in the beat, her vocals and the clever lyrics. It did kinda age but not to much!
    9.5/10

    10. Good In Bed - I really love the beat and the sad and releateable lyrics. It's a really strong song, but the chours' melody kinda throws me off and the reason why it's rating is lower.
    7/10

    11. Boys Will Boys - A feminist song with a good message. I love the strings and the arrangement of the song. The song's lyrics are kinda cheesy. The song doesnt really fit to end the standrad version of the album and it really dont have a 70's/80's throwback vibe. A skip sadly. the song is short tho :)
    3/10

    12. Levitating (ft. Da Baby) - we didn't need this collab to be honest. Da Baby's rap in the second verse destroys and dont fit the song...
    4/10

    13. Fever (with Angéle) - THIS COLLAB THO! i am obsessed with this song, it's unreal. My second fave of the album, even though it dont really fit the album. I find that okay tho beacuse it's a bonus track. The vocals and production, I LOVE IT. Angéle's parts are amazing and french suits the song so good.

Honestly, only the cover and some of the titles of the tracks bear some '80s nostalgia. The rest - the songwriting and production - all sounds very modern (and very bland at that, as expected).
Also, '80s nostalgia would be past nostalgia; in the '00s that was new and fun; in the '10s it was tolerable; now it's long overdue.

Is Future Nostalgia a solid sophomore effort from a BNA winner - an award that carries quite a bit of baggage in recent times? Absolutely. FN is a cohesive body-of-work that adds diversity to Dua Lipa's catalogue and is filled with songs that fit 2020 pop music. To see it receive an 88 from critics is baffling, however, considering its only hit in the US was largely aided by a strong radio presence and nether followup as been able to resonate. An 88-scored pop album should be able to deliver more than 1 US Top 10 hit, and certainly more than 2 Top 40s. The success of those songs on the US Charts matches my reaction to the music perfectly: an average album with a few highlights > 1 Top 10, 1 Top 40, 1 Top 100. Expand

Dua's vocals and strong attitude are a highlight for this album, and there are some standout pieces like Boys will be Boys and Future Nostalgia (title track). In a sea of music reviving the disco pop and retro era-style music, the album definitely stands out as a whole. However, from song to song, the production felt really similar and the composition wasn't particularly unique. A mediocre album with some not bad done single, the over hyped acclaim make this simple cute dance-pop disco album getting worse.
and the critic review of this album only shows how now-day's music critic being more hilarious and pop-friendly (in negative way).

I feel it’s an iffy album, It’s an ok album, the purpose is very overrated. If you are going to make an album, at least six good songs. I love levitating, Pretty please, Future nostalgia, and hallucinate. This is my opinion and I can’t help but dislike some of the songs on this album. But thanks for the effort dua lipa.

Sounds like regular H&M music. Pop can’t be predictable as this album was. A good beat does not equate to a good song. Very much 80s inspired and the synth basses are way too repetitive. A few good songs. Overhyped? Yes.

Some hits, like two or three made this album relevant in 2020. While it is not the best vocal performance or production, it can make people want to move their knees a little. Very commercial with poor lyric enthusiasm. Being the it girl of the moment saved this album from flopping hard I think. Kids choice awards worthy.

Don’t Start Now, Physical & Break My Heart are fantastic songs, but three fantastic songs don’t make a fantastic album. Sadly there are not enough new sounds on the other tracks. Hallucinate is just a different version of Break My Heart and Pretty Please seems like a slower version of Don’t Start Now. I expected way more, disappointed to be honest.

Absolutely does not live up to the hype. These are recycled Daft Punk/Madonnaesque tracks set to current thematics, vapid lyrical content and Dua's signature low-energy approach to delivering everything.

I think it is a lot of impudence on the part of Dua to copy what The Weeknd started in the middle of this decade, by that I mean the synthpop sounds of the eighties. How have people become so brainwashed by overhyped record labels campaigns? And critics that are payed to write reviews to help sell the artist? It’s a mix of so many signature sounds from other artists such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, S Club 7, Lilly Allen, Michael Jackson... in every comment on YouTube people say “it reminds me of Rihanna shut up and drive” or “it reminds me of Madonna” I mean... yes it does!! it reminds of everyone but the actual artist that’s releasing the record!! At first I loved the cover, she looks stunning on it and seems really original but then even that is a copy from Madonna 1994 Versace campaign!! The artwork for physical is also copied from Madonna! I mean how come isn’t this out there?? And then this is being branded as some pop bible?? It’s like a CD cover of a bunch of songs. I understand she wouldn’t want to copy New Rules but at least that song/sound is hers!! And not some blatant copy of everything else. Such an obsession to become the next Madonna that there’s no originality whatsoever. And this comes from someone that loved her first album, a lot more authentic in my opinion. It’s mind blowing this is being praised this way and not actually criticized for how much she’s copying everyone else. Expand

It's just rehashed pop music. It's fine, but overhyped. There's nothing groundbreaking and I don't see anybody really remembering this album and its generic pop five years from now. The lyrics are subpar and the "instrumentals" sound familiar -- not in a good way, but like I could mistake them for any other pop radio hit. Pass.

Make no mistake, her risks are still very within the context of a 4/4 pop structure, but she still finds such color and joy in her surroundings it's hard not to get swept up in her energy. Such risk-staking, however, can still lead to a few moments that could've used a bit more polish.
