This film is definitely a love lotter to all the X-men fans who have followed the team not only on the big screen, but in the comics and tv series as well. Is the perfect closure of a trilogy that resurrected the X-men series after the disasters that were X-men3 and Wolverine Origins.

Don't be fooled by the bad trailers, this is not a film about Jennifer Lawrence, is a about the whole team and all the cast works pretty well, the action is really well executed and the ost is brilliant, from the beginning to the end I didn't wanted to abandon my seat. Mcavoy and Fassbender were great, but I feel that this time Mcavoy did it better. There are a lot of tear jerking moments, there are a lot of action moments, there are a lot of 80 galore moments, it had so much that I never feel tired like other movies with the same length.

Unfortunately this film has two letdowns, special effects and makeup, I don't know if fox give less budget, but the effects were not as impresive as when I saw the last two x-men movies and the make up certainly ruined Apocalypse's presence, don't get me wrong I loved Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, he did it well, but the make up was not on par with his perfomance.

Overall this is a movie that every X-men and comic book fan should see, don't listen the critics and make your own judgement, I'm glad Bryan Singer make this movie and I hope there are more X-men movies on the way.… Expand

This was a great movie, despite what the critics say. The special effects are awesome, all of the characters are great together and the cinematography matched the emotion of the scenes. So following the Days of Future Past's cast and added a few new faces for Jean Grey/Sophie Turner, Cyclops/Tye Sheridan, and Nightcrawler/Kodi Smit-McPhee. I do believe THIS is the BEST X-Men movie to date! You basically get to see a lot of different X-Men throughout the whole film! I believe a major highlight for me was Sophie's Jean Grey portrayal, best performance for her! It was pretty perfect for an X-Men fan like myself, like if you grew up on reading the old school X-Men comics you'll enjoy it! Bryan Singer has his hits and misses sometimes i guess... But this film really topped itself to the Toppest of all the Notches! aka Top Notch! A+ Film! Beautifully crafted, well directed! I was super f**king excited to see the Essex name after all those credits! Bring on, Mister Sinister please! One of my favourites for 2016! 2nd just after Cap 3: Civil War!! Also... THAT Psylocke/Olivia Munn Love it, so Hot!!! Bring back Rogue, Kitty Pryde and or Iceman, maybe with a new face for next one!! I cant wait for the next one!… Expand

X Men: Apocalypse completely nails it in what I think is the best X-Men to date. That trailer blew me away and this was actually my most anticipated movie of the year. I was really scared because of the disappointing reviews and boy could IX Men: Apocalypse completely nails it in what I think is the best X-Men to date. That trailer blew me away and this was actually my most anticipated movie of the year. I was really scared because of the disappointing reviews and boy could I tell you, I absolutely loved nearly every single second of it. It's not a perfect movie but it really has a great script and action sequences. There were so many characters that were fantastic and just the idea of the mutants amazes me. I thought the villain, Apocalypse, was great in this film and he was intense at times. I personally thought the best scenes were either at Xavier's school or in the Egypt area. Man is 2016 rocking it with those superhero movies. The only thing I could say slightly negative about this film was the film length as it was a bit too long, just like any Marvel movie. If you loved X-Men:Days of Future Past (I didn't particularly love that film, but it was okay), then you should like this movie. Go see it and support it as my theater had less people watching this than Captain America: Civil Warm, yet still being nearly full. I really hope this film does well and I look forward to watching it again in DVD. (98/100)… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great film overall. Very familiar "X-Men" plot. Apocalypse is very well portrayed and a carbon copy of most iterations. My only gripe with him is that he didn't have an insurmountable feel. I would have like to have seen a few moments of complete despair where it seemed like he was un-defeatable.

The overall portrayal and casting of the characters was absolutely great. The Wolverine origin was spectacular and that sequence alone was better than the entire Origins movie. Over all a great film. brought me back to the 90's watching the animated series.… Expand

Well paced for the 1st hour establishing the origins of Apocalypse panning to the present time set in 1983, with introduction of new younger characters for Second Class students including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver & Jubilee, unfortunately the latter turns out more of a cameo saying only 2 lines the entire film. To which Apocalypse arose from his slumber with no thanks to Moira, began to find himself in the new world, planning world domination and unleashing chaos & mass destruction with assistance of newly recruited 4 Horsemen,including Psylocke & Angel (sadly downplayed), with wandering lost souls, Storm & Magneto, on the verge of giving up hope on humanity, facing conflict upon questioning their leader's true motives. Following the abduction of Charles Xavier, Mystique & Beast are left with no choice but to take over leading the new X-students on a rescue mission. From this point, the flow becomes sloppy which seems rushing right into final battle, witnessing the start of chaos destruction overloading with too much CGI. Oscar Issac is an amazing character however not as menacing as fearful as we thought to portray according to the comics. Wasn't much into Wolverine's cameo sequence, probably ruined due to major spoiler revealed on the final trailer... Funny how at one point in the film, where the X-students exit from the mall, with Jean making a comment on how the 3rd movie is the worst which totally suck, ref to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, while in reality, takes a jab towards the dismal 3rd X-movie 'The Last Stand' (2006). Makes one wonder as the irony being the 3rd film of the reboot trilogy since First Class (2011) is following suit. 3.5/5 Rating! It's just a good movie, but not great enough, measuring up the expectations of predecessor's success & box office smash 'Days of Future Past' (2014). Recommended!… Expand

I totally disagree with the critics. Actually X-Men have always been my favorite comic book movies. And this one is not exception to the rule. Love the way the 80's are represented. I watched X-Men: Apocalypse in 3D format in a D-box moving seat and was in awe the whole time. The battle scenes were mesmerizing and the whole viewing experience was pleasant and entertaining from start to end. This movie's greatest asset was that its plot was well-defined from start to finish. There were a few 'bumps', such as the nature of Apocalypse's power transfer and his own backstory, but all-in-all it was carried across very well.

UnlikeThis movie's greatest asset was that its plot was well-defined from start to finish. There were a few 'bumps', such as the nature of Apocalypse's power transfer and his own backstory, but all-in-all it was carried across very well.

Unlike past movies, where focus was given to specific characters like Wolverine or Mystique, this one spread itself across a plethora of characters in excellent form. It also combined several subplots which developed alongside the main one; Jean's burdening powers, Storm's admiration for Mystique, Magneto's loss of his family, and Quicksilver's dilemma of telling the truth to Magneto. Apocalypse's views on the modern world were surprisingly developed, even the little details such as him needing to learn the modern language. While his motives and backstory were a tad weak, within the movie his desires were full, from wanting Xavier's powers as his own to his own narcissistic lack of care for his followers.

Unlike some of the past X-Men movies where the climax has been rushes or unsatisfactory this one pulled a complete home run with their rendition of the iconic "Rise of the Phoenix" element that was much awaited by fans of the original storylines. Sophie Turner managed to not just fill the shoes left by Famke Janssen, but also stand on her own as Jean Grey's storyline grew from what had been set in stone in previous movies.

The diversity of its characters was one of its strongest points. Even for those with minor roles there was depth and remarkably strong parallels to the original characters, from Nightcrawler, the inexperienced kid wanting to be accepted, to Storm, whose desire to be a hero overruled her loyalty to a cruel overlord. For what small elements it may have lacked in early beginning it made up for later on.

All in all, a truly remarkable movie and a perfect follow-up to the strong story of Days of Future Past. By far one of the best movies of the year.… Expand

It was miles better than Civil War and Doctor Strange that's for sure. Only problem imo was that Apocalypse was not a CGI character. Other than that it was a nice movie, and they were smart by using Phoenix to defeat him.

I give this movie 10/10 for branching elements for the plot properly, and the re-introduction of characters, and a film that's worthy for it's revised future. Not to mention those Quicksilver scenes, catching Nightcrawler's attention, and Apocalypse being the REAL first mutant villain. Just one flaw, the X-Men franchise still cannot make Archangel an X-Man.… Expand

I'm not a diehard x-men fan and just occasionally watch these marvel movies as they come out, so my opinions about the movie are of a casual movie goer.

The movie doesn't need a "complicated" story like the Days of Future Past had to be good. A simple good vs evil is nice break from all that once in a while. Here we had a simple, but well working story.
The main villain is introduced and his powers are explained well ahead of time before he actually appears doing anything, but the intro is absolute gold.

I just felt that Apocalypse didn't really do anything really evil. He killed a dozen of normal people.
Magneto was ripping everything around the world apart. Apocalypse shot nukes into the space.
Wolverine killed a bunch of soldiers. Apocalypse enhanced Storms powers.… Expand

It captures what I liked about the apocalypse franchise when I read the comics as a kid. For that it deserves a high mark. I think they could have trimmed some of the subtle subplots a bit to make it more cohesive of a plot. In Apocalypse, the ancient mutant En Sabah Nur awakens in 1983 and plans to wipe out modern civilization and take over the world, leading the X-Men to try to stop him and defeat his team of renegade mutants. I personally loved this movie from beginning to the end. I started to get emotionally invested from the Magneto scene in the woods, and from then on it was just a thrill ride. The acting is absolutely great from everyone, starting with the always amazing Michael Fassbender, who is exceptional on the role as always. The newcomers all do a really good job with the stand out, Sophie Turner who definitely does not disappoint in the iconic role. Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac who is taking over the world by storm (in this movie quiet literally), looks really good on screen, and the acting by Oscar is fine and serviceable. What irritated me the most were the special effects, which certainly could and should have been better. Even First Class had better effects than Apocalypse, I mean it's not all bad, there are scene that are great to look at but sometimes it just lost me on all the obvious green screen. The music is undeniably good though, the main theme is great and memorable. It does also feel a bit too long, especially with all the leading up scenes, but overall this is a really well made and absolutely fun entry in the X-Men franchise. The new trilogy, First Class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, is most certainly one of the best superhero trilogies there are.… Expand

After four films based on Marvel's comics, Bryan Singer firmly demonstrates is owner of the best of the powers of the "X-MEN".

One decade after "Days of Future Past," Professor Xavier's young students must confront the villain more powerful and fearsome of the history, located in the pyramids of the ancient Egypt, close to El Cairo.

Oscar Isaac plays Apocalypse - unrecognizable after his work in "The Force Awakens" as Poe Dameron or "Ex Machina" as "Nathan", using blue makeup, boots with heels, prosthesis and a heavy costume that turned recordings into something hellish- a supreme being who over the years has absorbed the powers of many mutants, after 80 years sleeping under the Egyptian pyramids is accidentally awakened and seeing that his world is praising false gods decides to destroy the human race completely.

Singer decides to resume the franchise after "X-Men: First Class" in 2011, this brings back to the mutants better known as James McAvoy's Professor X, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Nicholas' The Beast, joining to spectacular cast, new and talented youths to the team.

Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner from "Game of Thrones"), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) are juvenile interpretations of mutants already seen in the previous films, they give you a touch more fresh and comical to each character while still retaining the essence itself. On the other side are the four horsemen of the antagonist, Psylocke (Olivia Munn), a renovated and young Archangel (Ben Hardy), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and the very famous Magneto (Michael Fassbender) faithful to his master, until a certain point.

A luxury cast bought 20th Century Fox to project for the fourth time to the "X-MEN" franchise, nominees for the Oscars, winners of Oscars, nominated for prestigious awards increase the expectation of the fans, and from what I saw, action and drama are present in each framing.

This is a tradition, this is an addiction, this is a necessity. Once more the fabulous Evan Peters' Quicksilver runs a masterful slowdown scene in the scene, with many jokes, action, happiness and perfection. Since the moment that the scene becomes slow and a bee appears next to a flower, we knew what it was going to happen, the music plays and all goes to **** It's **** amazing. I think that Quick has been established as one of the best X-Men, becoming like the actors for the film, like the water for humanity, he's a necessity in the saga.

Throughout the film, it also presents a pleasant and surprising cameo - in the full sense of the word - you know who we are talking about, despite being short and very bloody, the man does his job and leave.

Bryan has worked a little more than sixteen years with the mutants, his knowledge is obvious to mix so many characters in a different age and yet provide a coherent, articulate and outstanding story. Relations and changes of the characters are also highlighted. The merit is not only to Singer, It's to entire team.

"Apocalypse" might not be the best superhero movie to the public child considering that is very dark and sinister, but it can be pure entertainment for infants and adults, something not will like much the fans because the film replaces the lack of genuine entertainment by tons of action and CGI. Opinions are mixed, but it is irreproachable do not say that the film is worthy of receiving the name "Apocalypse".… Expand

While Days of Future Past and First Class are still my two favorites. This film was a love letter to x fans of all types. A lot of great moments that reminded me of the animated series as a kid growing up. Quicksilver was awesome again. AndWhile Days of Future Past and First Class are still my two favorites. This movie its a great addition to the "new franchise" of x-men movies. It was fun, it was entertaining, and it left me felling like I should watch it again in Imax just to get the full impact of the awesome fight scenes and brutal finale. The movie is a bit long being two hours and a half, but it doesn’t feel a second short or long. I enjoyed every moment of it from the action, jokes, and character development.
It feels a bit more like Xmen First class, because it introduces a new team, and tries to develop each member a bit. I understand that it may be hard to follow, but having the limited knowledge I have about the franchise I didn’t felt lost or as if the movie was going too fast to understand. All the characters seemed to have their purpose and motivation. Visually it had great CGI and makeup, the acting was great.
It was a good movie, and one I wouldn't mind paying to see again.… Expand

This is a very enjoyable, action-packed movie that also does some decent character development and relationship building. I was especially pleased with the way the film ended and the team it put in place for future sequels. Don't believe the negative press. This is a good (not quite great - I gave it a 9 out of 10) film, well worth seeing.… Expand

I would be wrong to make the practical costumes not my first glowing remark about this movie; seeing the actor’s faces and not a digital puppet made for great, and unfortunately unique experience. Oscar Issac stole the show with his performance as the titular villain, which was made all the better by it actually being his performance. While James Spader’s performance as Ultron in Age of Ultron was great, the fact I was looking at a cartoon did take away from it. By going with practical costumes X-Men solved a common problem and hopefully paved a way for future blockbusters to follow in their wake.
Oscar Issac wasn’t the only actor who delivered an amazing performance, all of the cast on a whole did. Michael Fassbender as Magneto gave a deep and sorrowful performance that could pull tears out of a statue. Sophie Turner has given me great hope for a Dark Phoenix storyline in the future, and Jame McAvoy continued to fill the shoes I thought no one could fill after Sir Patrick Steward left the role.
There were two characters in the movies whose amount a screen time shocked me, Olivia Munn’s Psylocke and Evan Peter’s Quicksilver. Quicksilver was given a much more important role than I had assumed, which was a great surprise. He was the comedic relief in the movie and unlike with most recent blockbusters he managed to not be cheesy and to be comedic, what a relief. As in Days of Future Past there was a long and incredible sequence with the silver speedster, this one better than the last; it might be worth the price of admission just for that one part.
I was disappointed that Olivia Munn’s character was as underutilized as it was. Seeing her do as many interviews as she did led me to assume she would of had a bigger role than “pose a couple of times and say this one thing.” Psylocke wasn’t the only character left underdeveloped; Angel and Storm both left me wanting more. While I understand that the movie was packed and that not every character could get a far reaching character arc it would have been nice to get to know these characters more intimately before the standard last act fight sequence.
After the climatic final fight and the dust settled the heroes returned home to their destroyed home, and I finally got to see something that I always wanted to see: the mansion being rebuilt. While it may sound stupid I always wanted to see how the mansion kept being rebuilt after the many times it’s been destroyed, and finally seeing it should’ve made me leave the theatre with a smile on my face.
What took that smile away from me was the post-credit sequence; for the past couple of years now my hatred of them has grown exponentially, it’s to the point that I prefer the Stan Lee cameos over them. This particular waste of time had no dialogue, was as vague as possible, and over in a flash. This will be the last one I wait through ten minutes of credits for and not just pull up on Youtube when I get home.
This movie grossly surpassed my expectations. Director Bryan Singer has once again delivered a fresh break from the Marvel cinematic factory with a movie that, despite its flaws, I’m sure I will watch again.… Expand

Not a bad film, best of the recent Xmen films. Quicksilver owns the best scenes again, jean grey, Cyclops and storm are all well added, was a little disappointed with Jennifer Lawrence and McAvoy.

Toss them in a blender and you have the inevitable fight to save the world. One of the things that makes this more enjoyable is that each hero's abilities are used in interesting ways, instead of the typical massively-destructive battles. The character interaction is usually engaging and best of all, there are no long scenes of metaphysical hand-wringing or interpersonal drama. Most of the encounters are brief and compelling. The action sequences are well staged, even sometimes cool. After 2.5 hours, the last 20 minutes drag down with muddy conclusions, but it's still one of my favorite superhero flix. This film has been called the worst X-Men film ever, nothing is worse than Last Stand, and as far as violence towards woman goes, there has always been fight scenes and there have always been male and female characters involved, in fact, X-Men has always received high praise for included female characters as equals, since the very beginning, so what is it, they aren't allowed to lose a fight? As far as the film goes, the story was terrific, the action sequences and special effects just continue to get better, and the introduction of Cyclopes (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-Mcfee) into the prequel cast just made everything that much better. Without giving anything away, I will say that my one knock on the film would be in the ending. There was so much build-up around the character of Apocalypse and so much talk about how powerful he was. Half the film follows him as he gains power and puts his plan together, but the final battle, that determines the outcome of the film, didn't take very long at all. There was all this hype and build up to this ultimate battle, that could determine the fate of the world, and when it happened, the fans were left scratching their heads by how quickly it ended. Hopefully it was all done with a purpose, and we'll find out why in whatever comes next, but as it stands now, the ending of the film was extremely anti-climatic, besides that, I loved it! Apocalypse might not have been as good as First Class or Days of Future Past, but it certainly wasn't a stinker on the level of Last Stand, the way that most critics portrayed it to be.… Expand

While the plot and themes may be weaker than other X-Men films, along with a somewhat pointless sequence/cameo and questionable cuts, the action is some of the best the series has to offer. Some of the new character's backstories are a bit underdeveloped (i.e. Angel, Storm, Psylocke, and Jean), but the returning characters are fantastic, specifically at the start with Magneto. Finally, I personally loved Oscar Issac's portrayal of Apocalypse. Overall, X-Men: Apocalypse is a great time and one of the better X-Men films.… Expand

They didn't break those bland characters, but they just weren't able to elevate them so they were just alright. The main story was kind of bland as well, but it wasn't bad nor ridiculous. I feel this movie was kind of a bridging movie to bring the X-men into what we traditionally know as the X-men so we can now have X-men movies and the backstory is done. It starts off at a fine pacing with several pieces of subplots to reintroduce the old members, decently surface the villain but due to overloading of stories to tell, there's a lot of flaws especially at the final act as well as some underdeveloped new characters. The story still focuses on the three main characters - Xavier (Professor X), Erik (Magneto) and Raven (Mystique), all deliver promisingly just as previous installments that leads to a very engaging chemistry together with powerful scores by John Ottman, visually stunning effects and a number of fun moments delivered by both Professor X and Quicksilver (although the latter seems to steal the attention much better in two major scenes). The theme of hope might not be quite resonant this time and it might not be the best entry in the trilogy but overall it's more humanly emotional engaging and certainly one of the quite successful superhero trilogy reboot.… Expand

Fourth superhero movie in, and we are only just over half way there. 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is a dark, threatening, and sometimes deliberately paced story. The movie begins somewhere in Egypt where we see En Sabah Nur who used to rule Ancient Egypt, until he is betrayed by his worshippers, and they try to stop him, but his four loyal men die trying to preserve him.

We cut to 1983, and it seems that the mutants we know as "X-Men" are still going their separate ways. We see that Erik aka "Magneto" (Michael Fassbender) is living a happy life with his partner and daughter. Charles aka "Professor X" (James McAvoy) is taking charge of his school for gifted mutants with Beast (Nicholas Hoult) also looking after the school.

Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) is still looking for new mutants and comes across a teleporting mutant who goes by the name "Nightcrawler" (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who she takes to Charles' school. Havok (Lucas Till) is back as well, and is concerned for his younger brother Scott (Tye Sheridan) as he cannot control this dangerous laser beam that emerge from his open eyes. Havok decides its time that he goes to Charles' school where he can learn to control these powers. This is also where Scott meets Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), who is having trouble sleeping as she can see/predict the end of the world, which will be caused by Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).

There is a lot of this plot to talk about, but to avoid spoiling it, I'm just going to talk about the things that worked and the things that didn't work. What worked the most was the story, I found myself invested in the somewhat scary story of Apocalypse and how he plans on bringing the end of the world, along with his allies including; Magneto, Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn). I also liked the more darker and violent tone of the movie, probably the darkest since 'X2: X-Men United' (2003), and it is a very trippy experience, especially towards the final battle at the end of the movie.

Oscar Isaac is great as Apocalypse, he seems menacing, he blends in fully to the role, and when he screams, his voice is convincing enough to lead you to believe that he is truly Apocalypse.

Evan Peters returns as Quicksilver, the fast and zippy mutant we all loved from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' (2014), he has another scene stealing moment, and it's arguably better than from the previous movie.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender also commit to their roles as Xavier and Magneto, you still believe their tested friendship, and the way that they seem so drifted apart because of the different things they go through, it's almost heartbreaking when you see what happens with Magneto.

What didn't work would be the pacing, this is a very unevenly paced movie...but it isn't as disjointed as 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (2016), nor does it use all of its characters to their full potential like 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016). There are some mutants, mostly Angel and Psylocke, who aren't seen as much, and they're not as fully fleshed out as I would have wanted them to be.

The stand-out performance here is 'Game of Thrones' star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey...she commits 100% to her role, and she is definitely memorable in her performance.

All in all, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' may not be 'X2: X-Men United' (2003) or 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' (2014), but it is definitely nowhere near the poor quality of 'X-Men: The Last Stand' (2006) and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' (2009) (a movie I don't like to mention), and certainly nothing like the abysmal 'Fantastic Four' (2015) (a big mistake from Fox). Bryan Singer does what he can with this movie, and at least 70% of the time, he's succeeded. It's better than you would expect.… Expand

The dust has settled from “Days of Future Past”, and for many that might even be the best in the series. “X-Men: Apocalypse” might not surpass DoFP, but it’s still a fine film – for some. The focus is heavily on Magneto & Charles; meanwhile smaller characters are easily left out – development nor inside to them are neither presented in an acceptable amount. Our antagonist is a classic villain from the past but where’s the drama? Where’s the depth? Where’s the understanding? All he gives is destruction. But with destruction comes action; and Brian Singer once again shines with his direction, and Quicksilver. It’s an entertaining film with some clever humor here and there, but it’s not more than that. The plot is acceptable but it doesn’t really feel like an X-Men film. The focus is much more on the plot rather than on the characters — and the objective could have been much better presented; there isn’t a strong want-to for the success of our heroes. A somewhat predictable story and a lack of creativeness is another aspect. But it’s still an enjoyable ride into the world of our beloved heroes – even though the majority are very underdeveloped. This movie was awesome! I don't see why everyone has mixed feelings on it. Oscar did very well as Apocalypse. Everyone worked well together espcially McAvoy and Fassbender. And Quicksilver steals the show with another amazing scene.

Michael Fassbender gives another strong performance as Magneto, continuing to make him a more believable character. I've read a lot of complaints that the villain was underdeveloped. Now, yes, he was a bit, but thanks to Oscar Isaac's menacing performance, he still serves his purpose. I did find it a tad overstuffed -Rose Byrne's character didn't really need to be in it- but all flaws aside, it was still very enjoyable. The new characters such as Nightcrawler were great, and it brings the "First Class" trilogy to a satisfying close. The final verdict: It's probably best suited to X-Men fans but for all its flaws, it's a fun entry to the franchise and better than the reviews would suggest. 7.5/10.… Expand

Having viewed all of the prior X-Men movies including the spinoffs, this one was fun but left me wanting a tad more. Also, a few more minutes of his backstory would not have hurt the movie time wise at all. It was also a relief not having Wolverine as the focal point and rather reduced to a cameo/action scene. The acting from the cast is surely not Oscar worthy but they get the job done. All in all, if you're looking for an enjoyable movie with a decent story then check this out. But like I said, do not expect this to be the greatest comic book movie ever.… Expand

The only problems I really felt were timing and pacing issues. There were times when the movie felt like it was throwing a lot at you in a small amount of time, but as it went on I felt everything was explained pretty well. Also, it was pretty nice knowing about the X-Men before seeing this movie, but I feel people that don't know too much about X-Men can enjoy this movie just as much as I did. If you like X-Men or comic book movies in general I highly recommend X-Men Apocalypse!… Expand

Apocalypse is one of the three most well known storylines in the overall X-Men franchise. With Phoenix and Days already done, this film was inevitable. With Phoenix and Days already done, this film was inevitable. Despite my apprehension, I can say that it was a pretty good movie, but not without its flaws.

My biggest fear was the acting, but all the actors played their parts well. I really liked Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse. However, Sophie Turner was absolutely horrible as Jean Grey. She had absolutely no range, using the same expression in most scenes she was in. However, she’s evened out by Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, who manages to give a very good performance that makes me believe he’d grow up into James Marsden.

My other concern was the story being overdramatic. While I was wrong, there is a flaw that it’s a little rushed on several points. It felt like several different storylines were meshed together: The Apocalypse story, discovering the original X-Men, and a continuation of the story with the First Class characters. If this was split into another movie, they could have fleshed things out more. However, the story works with what we’re given and it’s an overall good experience.

The effects are amazing, with three specific scenes really shining through with them. I won’t say what they are due to spoilers, but one involves Quicksilver’s superspeed again and the other is pretty much the majority of the climax. While the action is good as well, the one downside is that there isn’t a whole lot of it. Almost all of it is in the trailers so there aren’t a lot of surprises.

Apocalypse is a good movie, but it could have been better. If it was split into two films, the stories could have been fleshed out more with better character and more action. What we get, however, is a good addition to the X-Men franchise and I look forward to what’s next.

Sidenote: I think the film would be interesting to see in 3D, but not a necessity. There IS an after-credits scene, but the reference in it is a little obscure to me, so you may need to have a bit of X-Men knowledge to get it.… Expand

I don´t agree with the critics on this one, they´re wrong. This movie has some issues, i know, but overall, this is very entertaining!

The movie starts off on a high note, with a spectacular sequence set in Egypt that blew me away, and i mean BLEW me away! it felt like an adventure movie of some sort!
After that action-packed opening we start to follow Xavier and Magneto and all those familiar faces that once again, shine. The stand out of this movie, on my opinion, is McAvoy. The guy is great! He creates such a relatable Charles, and he is just very likable!
There are new faces, of course, and they all do a pretty good job with what they´re given. Sophie Turner in particular, her Jean Grey is very, very good.
There are these amazing set pieces throughout the movie and some really magnificent scenes. One in particular being the Quicksilver one, which is indeed the best i have ever seen from him.
Oscar Isaac´s Apocalypse is fine, although coming across as a bit cliché.
Overall, this was a fun movie, and yes, it has a lot of structural problems and some pacing issues, but just don´t dismiss this movie, while not great, it´s pretty good.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must say that this movie is definitely fun to watch for core comic book fans, and fans of the X-Men cinematic universe. However, as a casual moviegoer, there lies quite a few problems, rendering it to mixed reviews and being the second lowest rated film (on Rotten Tomatoes) in the entire series. There weren't enough fights between the X-Men and Apocalypse, who again, sounded repetitive and boring most of the time. A lot of key X-Men themes were touched on and never explored again in the film. There was an obvious focus on the future of the X-Men series, rather than the Apocalypse they're facing now. It just didn't seem like the end of the world was near, and that is where my main problem lies with this movie. The inevitable comparisons to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War places this movie right in the middle. Apocalypse definitely accomplished more than Batman v Superman but it didn't deliver as well as Civil War did. All in all, X-Men: Apocalypse is a must see movie. X-Men: Apocalypse is probably the most underrated film of the year! With it's 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it's 52 rating on Metacritic, shows us that critics exaggerated with their negativity. It achieves greatness within it's characterX-Men: Apocalypse is probably the most underrated film of the year! It achieves greatness within it's character development as it shows us an emotional depth that may even bring you to tears or just intrigue you. The highly-achievable, menacing performance by Oscar Isaac brings this film to a whole new level. He is one of my favorite villains of the Marvel universe and proves why here.

When I finally went to watch X-men: Apocalypse, I was surprised it didn't suck as much as all those bad reviews led me to believe. It's definitely worse than the prequels but not that awful either. Apocalypse turned out to be a disappointing villain (though I feel like Oscar Isaac did the best he could with the material given), plot was fairly weak, ugly cg floating rubbish and I still think the mystique makeup on Jennifer Lawrence looks terrible. But overall I quite enjoyed the movie: Magneto had a great arc, I liked the new young versions of the x-men and quicksilver is awesome as ever (plus a cool cameo of you know who). Want to give it a 7.5, but since metacritic doesn't allow decimals in userratings I'll round it up to 8.… Expand

I usually don't write reviews of movies but I'm very surprised by the, somewhat tepid critical reception of X-Men Apocalypse. By building on what's been established by the previous X-Men films (especially Days of Future Past and the terrificI usually don't write reviews of movies but I'm very surprised by the, somewhat tepid critical reception of X-Men Apocalypse. By building on what's been established by the previous X-Men films (especially Days of Future Past and the terrific X-Men: First Class) Bryan Singer and crew are able to juggle a good handful of characters without losing sight of their personal struggles and motivations. Apocalypse is a megalomaniacal villain, and perhaps a bit too evil when compared to the series' more grounded/grey-area antagonists (especially from X2 and DOFP) but Oscar Isaac is commanding in the role and his..ehem.. "apocalyptic" plans for the world fit the grand scale of this story. In fact, what I liked most about X-Men: Apocalypse is how every element of this movie, the writing, characters, action, special effects all worked together; no scene felt wasted (even at a 144 minute run-time) and I was never confused as to the stakes that were raised by the narrative. I do wish this movie had a warmer reception, but I'm just glad I decided to give it a chance; I loved it!… Expand

I'm a huge movie buff and am quick to dismiss a bad film. I honestly did not enjoy Singers previous outings with my favorite team. I'm not too sure what the critics were thinking with the reviews for this movie. I'm a long time comic book fan, and Marvel fan in particular. Is this movie completely, 100% accurate? Maybe not. Is this movie completely, 100% accurate? Maybe not. I don't think it can be at this point with it being X-men movie #6. But, the movie did a good job of telling the Apocalypse story, and at the same time moved along with the progression of the "younger", original X-men.

Un excellent film de Bryan Singer (Xmen days of Future Past)
Doté de bons acteurs, j'ai adoré le méchant (sauf ça voix, bien que...) mais je n'aime pas Jennifer Lawrence. Pour les autres, pour moi c'est du tout bon.
Le film m'a plus car on apprend des choses [spoiler] comme "comment tornade a les cheveux blancs ? etc ..." [/spoiler] et c'est génial.
L'histoire est bien ficelé on s'attarde beaucoup plus sur les personnages que sur les scènes d'action ce qui est un bon point, mais qui me laisse sur ma faim en therme d'action.
[spoiler] La scène de Quicksilver est vraiment superbe. Elle gâche un peut l'événement supérieur, mais elle est très fun, du slow motion et du stop motion c'est magnifique. [/spoiler] -Pour les effets, certains font très "chip" c'est dommage. Le pire reste une scène de 5 secondes avec un bateau, en 2D il est flou et en 3D aussi.
-Je les vus dans les 2 versions et comparé à warcraft l'effet 3D et moins fort, mais il est plus travaillé ce qui fait que X Men est supérieur, ça ajoute de nombreux détails alors qu’en 2D ils sont difficilement perceptibles comme le planché détruit ou les "rays".
-Les musiques sont bonne surtout celle qui mettent durant le discours [spoiler] (la 7e symphonie de Beethoven) [/spoiler] et la scène de Quicksilver [spoiler] (Sweet Dreams) [/spoiler] -un très beau rendu Dolby Atmos

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse is a film that gets a lot of mixed to negative reviews. Honestly, I think this is a pretty good film. I loved the characters, especially Evan Peters' Quicksilver, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, and James McAvoy's Charles Xavier. I even enjoyed that Weapon X cameo. I am not very used to films that have characters from the comic book universe as their theme, but the quality and impact that some have had makes them a mandatory visit. So, even without knowing much about the characters or their fictionalI am not very used to films that have characters from the comic book universe as their theme, but the quality and impact that some have had makes them a mandatory visit. So, even without knowing much about the characters or their fictional stories, I decided to watch the X-Men franchise films. This decision was followed by some reading about characters and films. I tried to follow more or less the chronological sequence of events, starting with the prequels.

This film follows the events of "Days of Future Past" and places the world again on the verge of an apocalypse when a millennial mutant wakes up from his sleep and decides to take the world for himself, and for a group of highly talented mutants that he will recruit.

Directed by Bryan Singer, it's a film that is not as good as the previous one, although it has a lot of good points. Critically edited, the film has a pleasant rhythm and has no dead moments but lost some quality by its average script, which starts from a good idea and fails to develop it. The connection to Ancient Egypt seems like an original and appealing way of introducing the story. Initially, I thought it sounded a little forced and out of place, but it ended up fitting in and making sense, in addition to allowing us an extraordinary opening scene, the most impactful of the franchise so far. The film has some memorable scenes, such as the rescue of the mansion's students while it explodes or the moment when Magneto confronts his childhood and devastates the concentration camp where he was imprisoned, but it also has badly used romantic sub-plots, almost forgotten amidst the action, and uninteresting humorous moments.

The cast is massively inherited from previous films and is composed of great actors, however it is easily felt that there are actors with very little to do and a lack of commitment and depth in the construction of the characters (probably due to the material given to the cast). The protagonist is the duo James McAvoy / Michael Fassbender and both actors shone. Sophie Turner, who gave life to Jean Gray, also had space and material to show her talent and Evan Peters revealed true charisma and brilliance. Hugh Jackman has a very brief appearance that links this film to his character's personal life story. Oscar Isaac gave life to the villain, a super-powerful millennial mutant committed to wiping out Humanity, but I didn't like what I saw: he is a really fearsome being, but he has a way of speaking and acting so affected that he seems overly artificial and theatrical. Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Ben Hardy, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, Lana Condor, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Lucas Till also appear in this film, but they have almost nothing to do and their roles are very limited. Jennifer Lawrence also seems to be left, not knowing what to do with her character, now that she has moved to the "good guys" side.

In addition to these merits, the film has excellent production values that should be highlighted. It is a Marvel film and there are huge millions of dollars involved, which is quite evident from the beginning. Visually it is a show in itself, with a very well thought out and conceived cinematography, in addition to great visual effects and the best CGI that money could buy. The scenes and action sequences are great and the effects are a bonus. As happened almost always in this franchise, the film has excellent scenarios and costumes, although I must advise everyone that the scenes related to Ancient Egypt are totally creative and there is not really an effort of historical rigor. I think it is fair to also greet the makeup department and the great soundtrack by John Ottman.… Expand

Ticked all the boxes that need ticking for me. Lots of action, with some awesome special effects. The villain of the piece was a bit OTT and the storyline is not exactly original. Apocalypse as a villain is kind of whatever. The best part are the young Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Cyclops and Quicksilver. Mystique and Magneto or sort of wasted opportunities in this film. Essentially it's a close as we've gotten to the X-Men film we've all wanted for years now. However given how many steps forward the superhero movie genre has taken over the years, and Brian Singer's reliance on standard tropes, Apocalypse ends up being an odd mixture of better late than never, and too little, too late.

There's a lot to like about Apocalypse. We get the return of the great cast from First Class and DoFP like Fassbender and McAvoy, Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Evan Peters continually enjoyable Quicksilver complete with more of those amazing super-speed action sequences, and it doesn't crap all over Cyclops. It's got some of the best portrayals of these X-Men characters we've seen onscreen so far. The interpretations still aren't perfect mind you. DoFP couldn't fix everything, so things like age and timeline discrepancies keep things from being just as every comic book fan wants to see it. Nothing short of a reboot of the series will fix that. However, this is still the best we've gotten so far in that department.

Given that Apocalypse seemingly does so much right by making good on the promise DoFP set the series up for, what keeps it from achieving greatness? That answer is simply that it's too familiar. With the MCU dominating theatres, the DCEU getting up and running, and the X-Men's own lengthy presence on the silver screen we've seen a lot of villains want to destroy the world. And quite frankly, they were more interesting than Apocalypse.

The movie just has a very bland villain. Plus we already know how the fight turns out, so Apocalypse just ends up coming off as some dude who isn't really a threat whose sole purpose is just to break stuff. Then there's how underdeveloped he is.

The action itself falls short as well. This is a bunch of special effects driven destruction. The likes of which we've seen in a lot of superhero films lately. Not even the constant display and barrage of these character's powers carries the same level of excitement as before. The action still isn't boring to watch, but it's certainly going through the established motions. Then there's the fact that a lot of these special effects look cheap and dated, particularly in the first half of the movie.

What hurts Apocalypse the most is simply superhero fatigue. Brain Singer and FOX do their best to give us the X-Men movie we should've received in the first place all those years ago. For the most part they succeed. The issue it's a little late to do that. The superhero genre has taken off and reached heights one could hardly believe. Going back to basics wounds them here. They got off to their post-DoFP timeline with a shaky start.

Does any of this mean Apocalypse is an outright bad movie? No, it's just behind the times. A flaw that's easier to forgive when you consider this is a close as we've come to that perfect X-Men lineup. There's a sort of classic X-Men feel to it and it's just nice to see a lot of the original characters like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Storm get some real screen-time and actually take part in the action without Hugh Jackman's Wolverine hogging the spotlight. So yeah, it's the most admirable attempt at giving us the perfect X-Men movie that's sadly flawed in key areas. For some this simply isn't going to be enough. For others like myself this will still be a respectable and enjoyable movie. One that still manages to entertain for (finally!) exploring other, original X-Men. The series things to make up for, but it certainly looks like they're trying. The future still has the potential to be bright for these characters.
