The film suffers from a plethora of problems, and struggles to limp through which is shocking considering how great Days of Future Past was. X-Men: Apocalypse is entertaining, but suffers from terrible special effects and post production, and a very weak villain. The most sad thing about this film is that it had so much potential to be great, and just took a long walk off a short pier.
The biggest advantage this film has going for it is it’s super talented cast, who show up and give it their all, despite a weak script. Lawrence, McAvoy, and Fassbender all make this film as entertaining as they can, and the action sequences are fun to watch. However, the script has serious problems, many of which are too hard to overcome. Put frankly the story isn’t well crafted at all, it’s choppily thrown together more resembling a set of disconnected scenes following each other not a story.
The film’s biggest crux is it’s special effects and post production. This may sound odd, but they are, in some cases, so bad that they are distracting. The dialogue is one major problem, as clearly there was a lot of ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) or dubbing, and it often doesn’t match the lips or doesn’t sound like the actor has the rest of the movie. Above that the special effects, whether practical or digital, looks bad. The CGI isn’t very good, the sets are noticeable and flat, Apocalypse’s makeup is obvious, not very good, and distracting.
On that note Apocalypse, the titular character is one of the movie’s biggest weaknesses. Noted as one of the comic’s coolest villains with an unflinching belief in darwinism, the film’s villain more represents a shell of that. Oscar Isaac isn’t the problem, as he gives the performance his best effort, but the character has weak motivations at best, and isn’t all that menacing or memorable. A product of a lazily crafted script where the character that binds it all together has no real dimensions and is essentially a flat shell of a cooler idea.
It’s ironic that Fox spent almost 200 million making Apocalypse, and spent just under 60 million on Deadpool, a far superior film. The best way to describe X-Men: Apocalypse is a mixed bag, because it’s not a terrible movie, but it’s not a very good movie either, it’s just mediocre. The film is obviously the product of a poorly crafted script, which is a shame, because it could have, and thus should have, been better.

I tried to get into it, but just found myself checking my watch every ten minutes or so, just wanting the film to end. That's how much I was enjoying it!

I don't think I'll be rushing to buy it when it comes out on DVD

There have been some great films like Days of Future Past, and some pretty bad ones like X-Men Origins, and and I dear say this falls towards the bad side. Boasting a great cast, led by James McEvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, and some great characters, this movie ends up being an underwhelming and very frustrating film. However, it also manages to spice up some memorable moments, in particular, a scene involving Quicksilver (you probably have an idea of what I'm talking about).

The movie lacks in several areas, with one standing out the most being the plot. The plot is very simple yet bloated at the same time. At times, it starts to get confusing. Another downside is the misuse of some of the cast, in particular, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Apocalypse doesn't seem the least bit menacing or frightening, and Jennifer Lawrence, who feels much underused in the context of the story. Only to add to some of the negatives, some of the other characters feel very forgettable, such as Angel and Psylocke. In all honesty, they weren't very much interesting

The final battle was good, though a little underwhelming, which had the occasional wince of bad CGI. Magneto's transformation was by far the best of all the characters, and probably one of the only sides of the story you can get emotionally involved in. Fassbender did really well in his performance, especially given he had quite a change in character throughout the movie. McEvoy, as usual, was great as Professor X, and some of the young newcomers proved they are capable of being part of a massive blockbuster. It's a movie worth watching as it is fun and enjoyable ride, but make sure you enter with low expectations.

And yet, my feelings leaving the theater were just so-so. The visuals are great, though as always in these films, some moments are very obviously CG. The story was just okay - nothing very original or creative. They didn't try to stretch themselves at all when it came to the plot or dialogue. Also, the action largely wasn't very satisfying. With few exceptions, I feel like Singer doesn't know how to make combat with these kinds of powers interesting. In fact, in combat, most of the characters seem to forget what their powers really are.

On the plus side, the characters are fun and well portrayed. Watching them interact with each other and have a good time is a delight! Quicksilver outdoes himself. As amusing as he was in DoFP, he's much better here! And the young X-Men do an excellent job as replacements for their older versions (some are even better).

Anyway, it's worth seeing, but it's far less than it could be.

I think its time to let X-Men lie for a decade before we come back to it again.

As always, The growing and experienced cast does a great job. That being said, I've grown tired of this series. They recycled a lot of content from previous films and it made this film suffer quite a bit. The only thing good about this movie is that it helps set up moving away from other characters.

Jackman is retiring as Wolverine and by going into the past for new stories, They can explore more while leaving out the character that really made the series what it is. I think Turner is a nice replacement for Lawrence as well, Who's contract has expired and it doesn't seem like she is going to re-new it. Mystique has grown stale and by re-introducing Jean through the very talented Turner, You get a near even swap while also giving fans a familiar character that you can explore the backstory of.

The film as a whole is ok. It's a little bit better than The Wolverine but compared to Days of Future Past and First Class, It's dead last.

It tries to balance a lot of plots and characters and I don’t think it handled it as well as Captain America Civil War. The performances are mostly good especially Fassbender and I liked the action scenes and I thought the plot was ok. However there are a few underdeveloped charters and plots and as a whole it feels a bit underwhelming at times. It’s ok but I wouldn’t mind if this is the final movie cause this franchise is kinda running dry now and there’s only so much more of the source material to work with. Though I would be willing to return for another sequel which is planned at this time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I avoided reviews, even non-spoiler reviews before seeing the movie. I was excited to see the third installment but had little to no major expectations after the BvS incident (I disliked BvS very much, firstly because I expected more of an Injustice approach but eventually ended up disliking it because it did not convince me that that's how characters I knew would react in the provided situations; but I digress...).

I felt like the movie was not worth watching at all (my opinion... but this is my account, therefore relevant). Even though I liked First Class more than Days of Future Past, I loved what they did story-wise to Magneto in the sense that the character continued the story from where it was left off, though in the case of Apocalypse, I felt like the character was just introduced with, I don't know, am I supposed to think it was Polaris, his offspring, in his new exposition drama? I was thinking to myself: "Give this guy a break!", I mean not even Joss Whedon is this cruel to his characters over a hypothetical three movie-length series. Little to no dialogue on the supporting characters paired with little to no tension throughout the whole movie made me wonder when will the trailer will end and the movie begin. I felt that the editing did not focus on the story, and by this I mean that I felt that everything was predictable (the scenes were not transitioned in a way to make you wonder or to properly explain the situations, it felt like a roller coaster of unnecessary, poor and recursive exposition and action scenes); from the self-referential jokes about the third one in the series, to the Return of the Jedi twist that macguffinly presented a way for the good guys to win (the bad guy's apprentice turns on the bad guy because his son is in hurt by him, which I believe, is now a trope).

All in all it's a good story for a four to six part comic book story, but not enough for a movie to create a convincing scenario for an audience like myself (see there, I distracted a general criticism to emphasize on my point of view because critics don't make a movie good or bad, we all evaluate them more or less, but I believe that the more critical we become we encourage quality, but that's like the good side of something and it's completely subjective and all in all it's pointless... GODS, do I digress? Yes! Yes, I do.

And I just did again.). Where is the reactionary feedback from the humans? How come Apocalypse just picks Psylocke because she's there, and moreover, where's her character? How come we don't establish Storm better? Why does Sophie Turner look like she's waiting to be directed more than embodying the character she's supposed to portray in a more vivid way(I mean, I know she doesn't fully control her abilities and all, but she seems to be stuck aside from her "Watch this, I can make us like we're not here gimmick.")? Why do we focus on the same "Oh, Professor X stands for this, and Magneto is just too radical!" crap? I mean over the span of three movies I guess that I expected something, but only after feeling disappointed for SOME REASON when the movie was over.

Just to be sure I clarified: I did not go in wishing this movie to suck. I did not have high expectations for it as a new installment in a superhero movie franchise. I just feel like it fell short of being a good movie. I don't think it was bad. I think it was mediocre and with some technical flaws. But that doesn't make the movie less enjoyable unless you feel it's boring you. And that's what I felt. A redundant approach towards characters over a plate of mix of good and bad CG effects (by my appreciation, here's an example of what I mean: Psylocke's effects were awesome but the whole tearing Cairo asunder felt like a video game cut-scene from the 2000 and by that I don't mean necessarily bad, but completely breaking immersion from the rest of the action).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Again Fox does the same thing over and over again, which is ruin their and mess up their timelines. I mean this movie just basically cancelled all the events that took place in the first trilogy. If this is a younger version of Storm,Jean,Scott then how did they all meet nightcrawler, i mean in the first trilogy Jean and Storm didn't meet him until after he attacked the white house, now suddenly Fox decided no it's time to change that. Another Example, this is third time they tell you how wolverine got his adamantium claws, the first was in X2, then in Origins Wolverine now this, and if Jean and Scott supposedly meet him when they were young, THEN HOW ON EARTH DIDN'T HE RECOGNIZE THEM IN X-Men 1 while they were older and same goes for them, and don't say memory loss because he already had undergo ed the experiment.

In general, i just found this movie and excuse for Bryan Singer to continue doing X-Men movies, all he does is change Wolverines past and ruin the timelines, i hope that after Wolverine 3 Fox sell the X-Men back to Marvel because they will just continue to ruin the X-Men

Whether you consider this to be the third, sixth, or ninth film in the franchise, it can't be denied that X-Men: Apocalypse would have had to work hard to stay fresh, as have its predecessors since the mediocre end of the original trilogyWhether you consider this to be the third, sixth, or ninth film in the franchise, it can't be denied that X-Men: Apocalypse would have had to work hard to stay fresh, as have its predecessors since the mediocre end of the original trilogy (and the critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine). First Class reveled in its role as a rebooted period piece. The Wolverine mixed the superhero and Japanese martial arts genres to great effect. Days of Future Past indulged in time travel (and fan service). Deadpool was one of the funniest send-ups of any film genre in history.

Apocalypse doesn't try to do anything of the sort. It's just a straight-up comic book film, one that could have been a part of any franchise, set in any decade (excepting the shoulder pads on Jean's jacket). There are some standout moments, but they're nothing we haven't already seen before (like Quicksilver's bigger big moment). The effects are decent but not jaw-dropping. The havoc is widespread but impersonal. At no moment did the fate of the world or any of its important characters seem in doubt. So it wasn't a bad film, but it could have been much better, particularly with such a contender of a villain.

Everything else in this movie, including the crappy makeup of Beast, stupid costumes, Olivia Munn's cringeworthy performance and stupid outfit, horrible acting and lines that don't even fit together, "destroy the world" scenes lifted straight out of literally every other movie (do they just have a template for destroying the Manhattan Bridge now?).

Hugh Jackman looked bored in his scene, while he was getting shot at, apparently nobody can hit him with fully automatic weapons at five feet away. Apocalypse looked retarded and the green screening on the mountain was some of the worst I've ever seen and you can tell on a home screen. Cringey evil characters standing around trying to look tough. Etc., etc.

Critics are just destroying this film and being way to harsh whilst not a cinematic masterpiece it does pass as a nice easy going flick that has some great scenes that just falls a little flat due to pasting issues, a bland villain and just to much going on plot-wise. But besides that every performance is amazing, the reintroduction to characters like Jean, Scout, Night-crawler are awesome and it's great to see them back *even with different actors* Its just a really entertaining film. Personally my biggest complaint is just Apocalypse, hes just not a very menacing or interesting villain, he's just a really kinda goofy big macho big baddy that feels strangely out of place in this film franchise, especially at how emotionally gripping it can be at times thanks to magnetos character it kinda feels really awkward having this big blue mutant thing walking around who can turn people into sand. I enjoyed the film for what it was, but I really wish the film had more focus. Also i really wish Apocalypse was a better fleshed out character and had more reasoning and depth behind his motives. He just lacks it, which makes it really hard to feel invested in the final fight in the film and all the action that happens.

Pretty alright film, nothing amazing, but nothing absolutely terrible.

The acting was very mixed. Some of that was scripting issues, but some of what just not great acting. Olivia Munn was forgettable as Psylocke. Thankfully, Evan Peters continues to do a wonderful job as Quicksilver.
The big issue most had from the trailers was Apocalypse and he was not horrible, but not impressive. I blame that more on the director and writers.

There were some other issues I had with the director and writers. Not going to spoil the movie, but when see the scene with the arrow used, it was bad. Michael Fassbender did a great job acting in it, but the choices made by the director made roll my eyes.

The special effects was a mixed bag. There was times when it felt like a video game and other times it was awesome.

In the end, I would say unless you are a big fan of The X-Men, you should skip seeing this at theaters.
It was not bad enough to kill the franchise, but Fox should seriously consider letting Marvel take back the franchise and just pay Fox a fee every time they use the X-Men.

Early stills and footage made me hesitant. He is a character that could be quite hard to adapt to the big screen. Unfortunately that is exactly what happens here. His power level varies wildly from scene to scene to the point where he should literally be able to do anything. Oscar Issac and their choice of makeup costume also doesn't convey the appropriate screen presence. He should be menacing and dominant the scenes he is in. That just doesn't happen.

The second major problem is that this movie is much closer to Last Stand than First Class. Besides costume choices, there is no real connection that this movie is set in the 80's. There is also way too much mutant bloat. Yet again Angel is poorly done, Psychlocke is a nonentity, and Havock is killed in a ridiculous way (wtf did Beast put in that jet engine). The movie, and franchise suffers by having Mystique be the main lead. I just don't think she is that good of a character. Jennifer Lawrence is attractive and in other movies (Silver Linings Playbook) I have found her to be outstanding. Mystique is just flat to me. Oh and Dark Phoenix is clearly the next story. Boo. I am not invested enough in her character for that story to carry a whole movie.

Quicksilver is great as always. Beast is decent. I liked Storm as well. Overall though the movie was just eh.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie has a lot of problems, but they all boil down to bad writing.

The only good parts of the film are the Quicksilver scenes and the final fight sequence.

The dialogue is weak and oftentimes spells out obvious things for no reason. There are too many characters and their development is rushed and doesn’t have much impact - even previously interesting and complex characters like Magneto are given cliched, hamfisted storylines.

The new younger characters feel particularly out of place, like they belong in a teenage TV drama.

The pacing is bad and even simple things like using the appropriate music for a scene are somehow botched - the Apocalypse/Angel scene being a prime example.

Meanwhile, the mutants recruited by Apocalypse are terrible choices. One of the most powerful mutants ever recruits a random Egyptian girl that steals money, a chick in spandex, and some teenage rebel with wings. If he’s so intelligent, couldn't he spend some time choosing actually loyal followers with more useful powers?

This film is a disappointment compared to X-men first class and days of future past.

After the promising return to form that was delivered with Days of Future Past, this one gets too many things wrong. An uneven plot, overabundance of characters, and a weak and uninspired villain are just a few things that held the film back. In addition, this film must have been looking to Batman v. Superman for examples on what to do, because much like that film, this film delivered a nonstop amount of action, especially in the third act to the point of being just plain underwhelming! Honestly, it feels like Captain America: Civil War has been the only superhero film so far this year to get everything right! Overall, while it was nice to see many of the characters again, it's not enough to make up for the mess of a film that this was, as it's simply too long, too drawn-out, and too underwhelming as a result. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They even make reference to it in the movie "the 3rd film is always the worst".

This wasn't THAT bad, but it's far from good or the first two. It looks really poorly made in parts, like the entire fight scene in Egypt looks like it was out of a 2006 movie. Very poor green screen and wire tricks, just not well done. The other part that sucks is Ivan Ooze oh I mean, apocalypse. Really poorly designed and looks just so bad on screen, aside from that he's too powerful and you are left wondering why doesn't he just end it, what is he stalling for.

I just want an xmen movie where we see great characters, using their powers and basically fighting each other, Brotherhood agains X-men and this is FAR from it. The fight scene between Charles and Apocalypse is also really poorly done, SPOILERS ......... it's a dream style sequence apocalypse doesn't actually grow large like he is supposed to.

Jean Grey all of a sudden unleashing her Phoenix powers, having no affect on her after the fact, not fainting after unleashing that sort of power..... it was a quick and (stupid) way to wrap up this movie honestly, lazy. It's a shame because Jean Grey and Cyclops are really the only GREAT part of this movie, loved them, loved the actors and wanted more from them.

There was VERY little powers used or fighting in this movie at all, its entirely all saved for the last 20 mins and boy is it NOT worth the wait. I am super let down by this movie as a DIE hard X-men fan and STRONG lover of the other two movies. This at best is a very long trailer for the next movie starting the new cast, but its a painfully bad x-men movie.

Such a damn shame.

The movie's tagline is "Only the strong will survive!" Actually, a more accurate tagline for the audience for this movie is "Only the safe and harmless ones will survive!" This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "X-Men Apocalypse" is one of the most polarizing films I had seen in a long time. The things it does well is very inspired but everything it does wrong really drag it down to a mixed bag instead of a satisfying entry in the series. For instance the titular villain Apocalypse was not that interesting. He is really nothing more than an obstacle for the X-Men to overcome instead of a compelling antagonist in his own right. Granted the character in the comics was also a generic villain but the film would have benefited from a needed update to give him more depth. Oscar Issac does deserve credit by capturing a presence on screen but it is a real shame that the way his character was written was not that engaging. Aside from Magneto the rest of the horsemen were barely developed. Storm in particular was very underutilized as her powers were only used to produce lightning instead of using the full power that she is known for. The reason for her inclusion to the Horsemen was rushed at best since her reasoning for joining the Horsemen was no where near developed as it could have been. Angle has it worse since the original character tried to live up to his namesake but is guilty for committing human errors. The Angle in this film is a generic bad boy who is only there to be a rival for Nightcrawler. Magneto's character arc was revolved way to quickly as he just helps the X-Men for the sake of convenience. There is also a subplot involving Wolverine which could have been cut from the film and it would not have made a difference. It is obvious that he wasn't meant to be in this film but was thrown in at the last minute to satisfy the producers. Characters move back and forth like Jean Grey and Cyclops just fell for each other. Nightcrawler is utilized well but he is barely given enough screen time and the death of Havoc felt like a cheap ploy instead of a carefully crafted tragedy. Despite these glaring issues there are some things it does really well. The scenes with Magneto trying to reform was really well done. They were compelling to watch as he tries to fit into society and start anew as a family man in Poland. The death of his Wife and Daughter was heart-breaking and the tragedy was reinforced when the police officer showed genuine remorse for his action. The scene with Quicksilver was the rare instance with lightning striking twice. The super speed is more impressive than in the previous film. James McAvoy is once again a great young Xavier and Jennifer Lawrence once again captures the essence of Mystique and even becomes a new leader for the X-Men. I am not sure those elements are enough to save this film from mediocrity though since it is clear that this was not made with a singular vision. I would recommend this film to those who just want to see an action movie for the weekend but if you are a die-hard X-Men fan like I am than you are more likely to be dissapointed. Expand

I didn't bother wasting time and money at the movie theater due to poor reviews. I trust the critics, most of the time and they were right. For a villain, Apocalypse was very one dimensional. Furthermore, the fact that the movie had explain who and what he was took away from the story. I liked the Ancient Egypt, beginning sequence and the transference of the consciousness of the ancient being to the new body was interesting. Throwing in the Logan/Wolverine cameo was great. The rest of the movies and character developments were lukewarm and that might have been, because they had to develop so many of them. I give it 5 out of 10 and it's worth watching if you have time to kill like I did before college football started. Expand

It still has all the elements that make the franchise great from Xavier and Magento’s relationship, to using the mutants to explore themes of prejudice, and Quicksilver. Had this film come out ten years ago I’d say it was about as good as the first two X-Men. However, those X-Men films while not great by today’s standards are acceptable given the times, we were still recovering from Batman and Robin; but given how far standards for comic book films and what you can get away with in such films with the line being pushed by The Dark Knight and the Marvel Cinematic Universe this is no longer fine. The standards and line has been raised and Synger fails to evolve with it. Is he clinging to old traditions or is he trapped in the rules of the world he created? If Deadpool and the MCU were fun drunken parties than Apocalypse is a dry cocktail party where every now and then someone kills the mood with a belch. It’s fine for what it is but there’s something more exciting happening next door. Hopefully, these mutants were learn to evolve to the next stage as Marvel has. Expand

Another ancient power was awoken and blah blah blah.

I have seen almost all the superhero films of the recent time, but this is the franchise I never liked. I'm sorry to say that, but that's the truth. The 'X-Men' series never made me sense, particularly to say it from the Marvel comics is a disappointment. When it comes to 'Wolverine', my opinion is different, because I loved those films. Hugh Jackman as Logan is the only 'X-Men' I love, so like usual this is another waste of time from its series to me.

I even enjoyed the recently rebooted 'Fantastic Four', but not this one. There's nothing new in the story, it's the same plot stolen from the different films. Like an ancient force is awoken who tries to rule the world by destroying everything created so far by the humans. So the mutants join hands to bring him down and we know what happens at the end. Apart from the vfx, this is very boring film and 150 minutes runtime was another lengthy joke that you never laugh.

Not just me, many people, even 'X-Men' fans showed displeasure over this film. That means, Bryan Singer's stint with the franchise is pretty much over. So they will going to bring a new one and that's another disappointment, because I don't know how long they're going to drag this series. End it already. Anyway, like I said I never was or will be this universe fan, so I don't care much, rather I just give them a try when they get released and obviously I'm to end in regret watching. Instead, I'm looking forward to the final 'Wolverine' film with Hugh Jackman.

Apocalypse ultimately failed to live up to Days of Future Past or even Deadpool, which I felt was somewhat disappointing. The film is extremely action packed, which to some can be a good thing but it leaves for an otherwise uninteresting plot with cliched and dull narrative, too many side characters and story arcs left un-fleshed out left alot of questions for the editing. Its like Singer had made plans for a 4 or 5 hour film but Fox had him cut it down to just under 2 and a half which left for alot of weird moments and characters that just felt empty. I found Jennifer Lawrence to be utterly annoying by the films end, I liked her in First Class but as the movies have progressed its seems as if her Mystique is nothing more than a blue Katniss Everdeen wannabe. Olivia Munn was just annoying almost at first sight. The movie had some redeeming qualities although, I found Apocalypse to be well done, Hugh Jackmen as Wolverine was a welcomed sight and the performaces of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Even Peters really redeemed the film in alot of ways. While it does have some moments, the film is obviously the product of a poor script, editing and direction, which is disappointing, because it could have and really should have been a better follow up to Days of Future Past and Deadpool Expand

Better than 'Last Stand' and 'Origins' (though even they had merits), but not in the same ball park as 'X Men 2', 'First Class' and especially 'Days of Future Past' (also preferred the solid if yet-to-find-its-feet-feel first film) and only just slightly under 'The Wolverine.'

There is a lot to like about 'X Men: Apocalypse'. It looks great, being very slickly filmed and photographed, production design being grittily atmospheric yet audacious, smoothly edited and with effective costumes and make-up. The special effects are of extremely good quality too, the much applauded big Quicksilver scene being particularly note worthy, and there is not an overload or underuse of them. John Ottman makes a welcome return to the series and his score is one of the more memorable and fitting (with that for 'Days of Future Past' getting first prize for the most) of the series since 'X Men 2'. The script provokes thought and doesn't make the mistake of rambling, while the action is dynamically choreographed, thrilling and emotionally charged on the whole.

For effective scenes, highlights do have to be a suspenseful and very arresting opening sequence and particularly Quicksilver's super speed life-saving scene, which is one of the series' most jaw-dropping. The story starts off really well and is very diverting with anything with Magneto. There are some terrific performances here, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender (whose character writing is the meatiest here) especially apply here and they make keep the story on point and from completely derailing. Sophie Turner shows off Jean Grey's conflicts and flaws very effectively and touchingly, while Evan Peters steals every scene as Quicksilver, Nicholas Hoult continues to be fine as Beast and Hugh Jackman makes a ferociously charismatic cameo.

Was mixed on Oscar Isaac (heavily made-up and unrecognisable) and Bryan Singer's direction. Actually Isaac's performance as villain Apocalypse himself is pretty decent and effectively menacing, but it's the clichéd and underwritten way in which Apocalypse is written that prevents Isaac from doing anything that special with the character that stops me from feeling more. People have said that Apocalypse here is more Ivan Ooze-clone than the character of the comic book, and it's easy to see why they would think that, this said Isaac does do a good enough job with what he had. Singer is at home in the style and the action, but when it comes to making the characters and story completely interesting and giving depth to them he isn't quite as confident as he was before, competent and stylistically classy but a bit bland.

'X Men: Apocalypse' suffers from being rather too overcrowded, with a fair bit going on and with lots of characters but effectiveness of executions varies wildly. Some good characterisation and great scenes, but a lack of constant dread and urgency and too many characters given short shrift, though nowhere near as badly as in 'Last Stand' and 'Origins'. The pacing is diverting at first but starts to drag once the plot gets more rambling and more bogged down by content. 'X Men: Apocalypse' includes comic relief and romance and they don't come off well, the comic relief is very goofy and at odds tonally with everything else and the romance is completely under-developed.

Jennifer Lawrence clearly looks bored too in a complete waste of Mystique, and Olivia Munn is underused and basically just eye-candy in a role that has little depth to her if at all.

In conclusion, uneven but still decent. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Don't worry, though, this movie still has a lot of spectacle. However, it is weaker in many respects to others before it. For example, the villain is not well-motivated and it has too many people it wants to develop, so the pacing is rather slow. In fact, the first act is a chore to watch oftentimes because it has nothing of much interest to show the audience. Also, some of the conflicts it wants to portray have been done in a previous X-Men movie. However, with those flaws aside, I'd still watch it, even if the next viewing would just be because of the spectacle. With that said, I'll grant it a seal of mediocrity, but still recommend watching it. Expand

This is the Magneto storyline in every film: kinda chill neutral, to very bad immoral, to suddenly good and seeing the light. Until next time folks.

The story is quite predictable and basically nothing new, plus the movie was so hyped and in the end it felt over the top and nothing new really. I guess it would be great in the cinema, but just casually watching, when you don't feel the 3D or big screen effects, it loses it's appeal. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Right, where do I even begin.

The movie is incredibly dumbed down and the script was equally flawed.

Magneto allowed himself to be captured by ordinary people, whilst he could have ended it right there and then with his super powers. Instead he surrenders (what?) which triggered clumsiness that resulted in the loss of his family. He chose a simple life at a factory to keep a low profile. Since he's raising a a family now you'd think he'd use his abilities to accomplish a better life for them and still keep a low profile. But again, common sense is not welcome in this movie.

For some reason Angel and Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) are captured by ordinary people too. It was only to cater to an irrelevant side story, which wasn't explored anyway.

Josh Helman (Col. Stryker) was 29 at the shooting and was a colonel already... At his age he should pushing pencils to prove himself as a young Lieutenant or something. Anyway, he's Colonel here, yet earlier franchises, which represent a later time-line (!) he'll be a Major. So he'll lose two ranks in the future! It's one of the many overlooked inconsistencies.

Nightcrawler can't escape from cages all of a sudden. For some reasons top military bunkers is no problem but not metal cages. You'll immediately realize this was another entirely unnecessary approach to a story line.

Far more inconsistencies exist surrounding Wolverine's appearance, but you can read all about it on the internet. There are so many errors, it's undo-able to put them all in a review like this.

Acting wise Josh Helman didn't convince at all. It's not clear to me why he was hired to begin with. Jennifer Lawrence under-performed heavily as well. It's painfully obvious she was in here for face recognition only. She indicated she grew tired of playing Mystique already. James McAvoy (Charles Xavier) does his usual thing. Fassbender is lucky because of his awesome charisma, but frankly his performance was underwhelming too.

It looks like the director simply didn't care anymore. Sound wise, shooting, acting, he went for the bare minimum only. This is perfectly demonstrated in the character of Apocalypse; other than a promising start, nothing impressive comes from his end. You'd anticipate Apocalypse would put up more than a nice fight, as powerful as he supposedly is, yet his character remained entirely underwhelming.

Also the Auschwitz-milking remains part of the standard Hollywood formula. Action scenes lack inspiration too. It has become a bore.

I advice to wait and obtain the movie later to keep your collection complete if you want to, but otherwise don't bother.

Apocalypse seems like he's written by a nine-year-old: he can control matter, teleport, instantly learn English from a TV, he's psychic - his superpower seems to be that he's immune to whatever problem he's currently faced with. It's like playing pretend with a kid who always has an excuse for never losing.

The odd thing is that these inconsistencies are all peppered with a lot of comic book fan-service. Psylocke is here, with her 90s costume, but her powers make no sense. Angel makes his transformation but had no 'good guy' affiliation before, so there's no real conflict. He barely has any lines (as usual with Singer, almost none of the villains do).

There are a lot of callbacks to the earlier movies that don't make a hell of a lot of sense, and characters are shoehorned in to fill some kind of mutant quota (Wolverine, Jubilee, even Magneto and Beast). Despite all this, it's a reasonably fun movie. If you're not an X-Men fan, I wouldn't recommend it.

This movie aimed at being bigger and better than the previous films, but it crumbles under its own weight. It's spectacle above all else, there is little like the charm and themes of First Class and Days of Future Past.

En Sabah Nur is one of the biggest baddies in Marvel's comic book stories. In the comics he makes use of alien technology on top of his mutant powers, but in this movie he is changed into a mutant who reincarnates himself and transfers his mind whenever his body gets old, gaining new powers if he uses the body of another mutant. Essentially he is a multi-powered mutant and immortal.

Problem is, the movie's story is very simplistic and cliché, a madman wants to conquer the planet and become a tyrant. Yeah, we've heard stories like this before. Magneto is angry at humans again. Even Quicksilver's slow motion showcase doesn't excite as much as the scene in Days of Future Past. Only Magneto gets some character development through his personal tragedy. The rest ain't developed at all.

En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse is such a big threat that even his servants turn on him and join the X-Men, but he can withstand all their physical attacks while fighting Professor X telepathically at the same time, this fight scene in the astral plane is actually my favorite. But all it took to beat Apocalypse was a young Jean Grey who unleashed her Phoenix power while screaming in the most ridiculously anime-like way, and Apocalypse is fried dead.

X-Men: Apocalypse is not a bad movie, but it's a bit disappointing. Having seen Jean Grey make a splash here, let's wait and see what happens in the upcoming Dark Phoenix movie.

However, it pales in comparison to Days of Future Past and Deadpool. There are moments in this movie that are absolutely wonderful and others that were just there. And, really, that's the biggest problem with this movie: there's just too much going on. During the first third of the movie I felt like I was watching a collection of scenes, not a coherent story. It also means that parts that should have been focused on are sometimes glossed over. I get what they were trying to do with the film, but they don't quite pull it off. In the end, it's a decent but very flawed movie. Expand

So as long the Movie is entertaining im Happy. Well the Movie is actually fun to watch but there are so many flaws that it really hurts the enjoyment while watching. The biggest problem is there is a lack of direction in the Story. There is no main Character. They try to solve the Problem with adding a lot known Names in the X-Man universe. This causes that the Movie is overpact with different character with different Story's and Problems. On sub-plot starts and than ends without an satisfying end, it just gets drooped. This causes the Movie to be to long and the is no person you can 100% connect with, even if they are Likable. The Actors play there role pretty well they just don't get enough to do. Best example is Apocalypse. Hes getting played brilliantly by Oscar Isaac but character itself is uninteresting. He has no real reason to destroying the Humans. The Motivation is that hes just Evil. An more Boring Villain cannot be created. But Quicksilver is an small highlight with his scene where he is saving everyone. Also the end showdown is also an small disappointing. It is trend that the Showdown in an Blockbuster Movie an massive use of CGI has. At some Movie i don't Mind that but here it was Simply to Much. The Director Bryan Singer has shown that he can direct beautiful scenes where Mutants use there Power against Humans but the fight Mutants against Mutants is unspectacular. It simply didn't worked for me. The Movie just had no real direction. I didn't expected much but jet it is still disappointed me. Expand
