This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main story is about a dude who gives wishes and these wishes are messing up the world. Diana asks everyone to renounce their wishes in the end so that everything goes back to normal. She says the wishes are a shortcut to your objective. What if a crippled person wished to walk. Is that a short ut to walking what if a dying man asked to be saved from a incurable illness is he having a shortcut to being alive? Just a stupid plot altogether. And the way they brought back steve was to put him in a random body and then he and Diana GET INTIMATE. In another dudes body.worst movie of the century Expand

Sadly, Wonder Woman 1984 is its polar opposite. Terrible. The first hour and 20 minutes are excruciatingly slow. Then in the final hour it really picks up ... and becomes such a confused, inconsistent mess it'll make your head spin. Things just make no sense. Then there is the unfortunate fact that all men (except Steve Trevor) in this movie are groping sexual assaulters. One positive aspect of the first Wonder Woman movie was that it did not come off as a man-hating flick at all, in the way, say, Captain Marvel did. Wonder Woman was for everyone. Disappointingly, "Wonder Woman 1984" makes Captain Marvel seem as if it was produced by a men's rights club. It's hard to understand why Gal Gadot or someone else on set didn't say at some point, "This is just ridiculous." In any event, a real disappointment after the last Wonder Woman movie. Shockingly so. It gets 2 points. One for Gal Gadot and one for Chris Pine. They were great, but they had to act out an excretious tale. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, it’s a super hero movie, yes it’s PG13, so somewhat aimed at kids. It’s also cheesy (in both eye-rolling and fun ways). It has a terrible, convoluted plot and all the trappings of the super hero blockbuster ilk. Oh yes and it’s really long. But none of those are the real problems with Wonder Woman 1984. The real problems are in the way the characters and story are written. At the heart of it is the flatness of Wonder Woman as a two dimensional character. She pines (pun intended) for a single dude she loves but shows absolutely no passion for. Her character expresses virtually no humor. She never seems to get angry or express emotions with much intensity. By contrast Kristen Wiig’s character is given too much relatability. She’s downtrodden, overlooked and under appreciated. She’s funny, self deprecating and good at her job. She wants to feel empowered and as the viewer you can’t help but hope she succeeds. You also understand her motives which makes her a simpathetic villain who is much more interesting that the titular heroine. Similarly Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord is a (mostly) relatable villain. He wants to succeed and makes some terrible decisions to do so. But his character is ultimately redeemed as is Wiig’s when Wonder Woman basically talks them out of being bad. Yeah. No big final showdown - no punitive ass-kicking here. She momentarily talks the world out of being selfish via mass media. More importantly, in this part of the DC universe there’s the opportunity for strong female super heroes that girls and kids can look up to. In Wonder Woman 1984 the two female leads are either dispassionate and boring or evil and vain. This is where Chris Pine’s character Steve comes in, making an example of self sacrifice to move the story forward and save the day. That’s right - the game-changers in a movie called Wonder Woman 1984 are both men. And it’s a shame. The least I was expecting was for the heroine to actually fulfill the role of hero here. I kept hoping that perhaps Barbara Ann Minerva (Wiig) would come to her senses and team up with Wonder Woman to vanquish Lord and set the world straight. But instead, Chris Pine‘s character sacrifices himself again enabling the world to be saved. And Pedro Pascal’s ”villain”? He comes to his senses and abdicates his evil power (of.......granting...wishes?!?) to be a good dad to his kid. Which kind of sucked the wind out of this mess of a movie altogether. The villain turns out to be a huge nothingburger. One can’t help but think moviegoers everywhere deserve a better movie than this. But women and girls definitely deserve better written characters to believe in. Characters who are fully realized women who can stand and fall on their own. And those characters deserve better plots in which to exist. Expand

Dull, tedious & boring are the only adjectives to describe it. Almost no action for an hour. No character development but it hardly matters as you don't care about anyone, not even Wonder Woman. As good as the original was that's how bad WW84 is. It's like watching paint dry. The same scene was repeated over and over until the audience makes a wish that the movie projector would break so to put us all out of our misery. The action scenes were comical without any suspense whatsoever. If you suffer from insomnia then this is the movie for you. The only good news is that no studio in their right mind would ever make another sequel. Avoid at all costs. You've been warned. Expand

It is by far the most ridiculous superhero movie I've ever witnessed and my first "zero" I've awarded to any movie on Metacritic. This thing doesn't even follow basic logic. Characters instantly have complex abilities and knowledge such as one character who is a stick and rudder pilot who somehow instantly can fly highly complex jets. Diana is now endowed with every ability of literally every superhero in the DC universe. Superman flight - check, immune to bullets - check (no need for the wrist bands anymore, just impervious), instant unlimited invisibility - check and so on. In addition Diana's rope is now endowed with literally all the powers of Thors hammer - and more. What's worse is almost every male character in this movie is either a moron, tyrant, sexist, pervert or worse. Just imagine for a moment how a man hating zealot might perceive the male gender - well this movie repeatedly, over and over and over highlights every negative male stereotype. The team that put together this trainwreck should never be allowed to make movies again. They literally dump on 90% of the audience. Expand

The original Wonder Woman was a mediocre offering from DC Movies that got a lot of undeserved praise. The follow up Wonder Woman 1984 makes the previous movie look like a masterpiece in comparison. Where do I even begin?

This is a movie that straight up fires cringe after cringe without any pause to think if it's even worth it? The story is typical "be careful what you wish for" we've seen done to death. The CGI is just awful and has a lot of uncanny valley effect that straight up makes some scenes look like it's from an old 2008 video game. The plot is so riddled with plot holes and nonsensical cringe that it makes Bollywood movies look good. This movie is awful. Every single person involved in this movie should feel bad for making such an awful movie. This bloated mess is 2.5 hours long so prepare to suffer watching this mess.

For anyone who loved the 2017 movie, this would be nothing but a terrible disappointment. This movie should start with a disclaimer saying "Please turn off your brains for the next 2 hours and 35 minutes or you might end up with an excruciating headache." The script is totally inconsistent and literally nothing makes any sense. The very first scene itself is completely inconsistent with the premise set up in the prequel. I see a lot of reviewers regarding that scene as one of the best scenes of the movie, but clearly, they have forgotten or never watched the 2017 movie. As a child, Diana was not allowed to partake in martial sports with the other Amazonians and the Queen was especially against it. Here in this movie, we're forced to see the Queen proudly watching child Diana compete in the deadly warriorship olympics. Utterly distasteful and nonsensical.
And then the actual movie begins, which really has nothing at all to do with that first scene. The plot is pointless, immature, and illogical. The characters lack dimension and conviction. Crucial details are just omitted or explained away with illogical dumb explanations. The motivations of the villains are completely unclear. For the climax, the threat seems to be of a nuclear war, but given the film's premise, such a war would not be in the interest of either Maxwell or Barbara. But they won't stop it. It's utter nonsense. BTW, the story of Barbara makes ZERO sense. At the end of the movie, you might just feel pity for her for the way she got treated in the movie. The ending sucks. No questions are answered - what happens to the stone finally - what happens to Barbara - nothing. There's just a random Christmas scene at the end that again, has nothing to with anything. It was July when they flew to Cairo. And now, it's Christmas. Deal with it!
The entire plot of the wishing stone is just SO BEYOND DUMB. It's so unoriginal it hurts your brain if you think about it. The stone grants one wish, and so Maxwell wishes to be the stone itself so that he can himself have infinite wishes. Oh really!? I mean there was a skit in the FRIENDS show where Rachel mocks the guy who says "if I had a wish I would wish for more wishes." THAT WAS IN 1994. People were so tired of this cliche back in 1994 that comedy shows were writing jokes about it. And that's exactly what Patty Jenkins' big fat idea is for a 2020 movie supposed to be a blockbuster.
The film is so immature. Devoid of depth, philosophy, or anything of substance. It grapples with a message that it doesn't understand. It makes abhorrent assumptions about the nature of humans that everyone, and yes LITERALLY EVERYONE on the planet is greedy and selfish and destructive. Throwing the whole "there is good in humans" message of the last film into the trash bin. The writing is ridiculously child-like and yet I can't think of a child who would actually find this movie interesting. There's no thrill, and the anti-climax is literally a drawn-out monologue!
It's a disgrace. Honestly, everyone involved in making this film should be deeply ashamed of themselves for unleashing this garbage on the fandom. It's especially disgusting because it's supposed to follow up on the 2017 film, which as far as I am concerned, was a great movie. I loved it whole-heartedly and had big expectations for the sequel. This didn't just disappoint my expectations, it even went back in time to ruin the first film with that garbage opening scene. Seriously, shame on ya'll.
I found the attempt to emphasize Wonder Woman's super-power of truth over her strength endearing, and the performances of Gal and Kristen are as good as they can be. The script isn't their fault, after all. So that amounts to the 1 star. Nothing else deserves any credit.
Patty was clearly so obsessed with the 1978 Superman kinda films that she forgot it's 2020. WW84 wants to be Superman so hard that it even forces in a scene where WW is learning to fly just like Superman! Which is just as dumb and pointless as it can get. I mean, again - it's 2020!! People expect, NEED, movies with far more maturity now. Patty, please leave the writing to people who know how to do it.

The movie diverts you, but still to hard to watch in some scenes, gets you kind confuse what’s is kind nerving rack but them settles through the middle. And Chris Pine is just useless. Expand

Another politically correct lemon. It might have ticked all the boxes, but was let down by a woeful script, poor direction and bad acting by mostly poorly cast actors. Gal Gadot was a standout as usual, but the movie was a shocker overall.

My biggest complaint is that the Max Lord character is uninteresting, and not fun. Instead of making him a super bad, he is simply a guy who makes wishes come true. He character revolves around murky rules for wish-making, for example, why does Barbara get 2 wishes, but nobody else? And how exactly are the wishes killing Max, and how many is too many? It felt contrived, not well thought out. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were good. So was Kristen Wiig, which surprised me a bit. But all three together were unable to save the poor script which was full of good wishes and positive messages, but extremely light on action and entertainment. The Cheetah character was great, but she and WW only had 2 fight scenes totaling about 5 minutes. She doesn't fully realize her powers and ability to be menace until the very end. And Cheetah is a sub-villian to the inferior Max Lord character, or a co-villan at best. She should have been the focus of the movie. I wonder if the producers felt pushed to make the movie feel good, because of Covid and general societal upheaving. You know what would have made me feel good? A good movie. Lastly, my wife and I had a good laugh at the prospect of making this movie a 1980s period piece. References to the '80s were few and far in-between. We decided that the whole reason for naming it WW 1984 was so they would have an excuse to dress Pine in a few ridiculous outfits for a total of about 30 seconds. It felt like false advertising. However, this movie is actually painful to watch in terms of everything it does bad that could have been good. There are far too many to list but in the first 10 minutes alone you will see the worst CGI of the past decade (Raimi's Spiderman was better), a weird effort to incorporate slapstick elements aimed at small children, pantomime level reaction-acting from supporting cast and extras, and for some reason Wonder Woman trying to be both Spiderman (swinging form 'webs') and Captain America (throwing her decidedly non-aerodynamic tiara). Superhero movies are supposed to be outlandish but this seems to have been made by someone who didn't grow up reading comics (including Diana's long and complex history) but rather had them explained to her by a studio executive. A poorly written, racist movie. Pro-state propaganda masquerading as progressivism.

An entire 30 minutes of this movie is basically just Islamophobic, pro Israeli state propaganda. The only Muslim character in this entire movie just happens to be an evil warlord, who wishes for, and I quote, "For all the heathens to be kept out forever." It wouldn't be so bad if the movie just played into this stereotype one time, pandering to the American Muslim scare that's been a thing since 9/11 is something Hollywood loves to do, but it gets worse. In one of the following scenes, Wonder Woman, played by former IDF Gal Gadot, swoops in to save a group of little kids from the evil Egyptian soldiers who of course would never stop or try to avoid the kids, because this movie portrays every single Muslim in it as inhuman. It's not done though; when Lord asks everyone to make a wish, the movie cuts to another Muslim (he's not even a character in the movie, he just has 4 seconds of screentime) and his wish you ask? He wishes for bombs, because of course he does, because Hollywood only cares about representation and avoiding stereotypes when it lines their pockets. Is any of this really a surprise considering this movie stars a literal war criminal?
