Fantastic movie. I rarely come to tears, but this one sent me over the edge several times. For those offended by the movie's message concerning fat people: Get over yourself. You would have to be severely thick to find this movie Fantastic movie. I rarely come to tears, but this one sent me over the edge several times. For those offended by the movie's message concerning fat people: Get over yourself. You would have to be severely thick to find this movie offensive. It in no way set out to ridicule fat people, it was ridiculing lazy people. People can be overweight and still be healthy, active, and happy with themselves. This movie does not ridicule these people. Rather it lampoons LAZY people who become fat due to inactivity and an obsession with quick and easy food, media, and life in general. It also sends an important message concerning how the increasingly lethargic attitudes of our society will ultimately be our downfall in protecting our planet. This movie deserves not only the best animated film award, but the best picture award. Expand

People, this movie was not a social commentary. The premise was environmentalist, but the message was not. It was also partly a cautionary tale about rampant consumerism, but that wasn't the point of the movie, and it was NOT People, this movie was not a social commentary. The premise was environmentalist, but the message was not. It was also partly a cautionary tale about rampant consumerism, but that wasn't the point of the movie, and it was NOT anti-corporate. I have no idea how so many people missed this, but the corporation in the movie was not portrayed as evil. Consumerism made us fat and lazy, but the corporation wasn't good or bad. In fact, there was no evil in the movie. There wasn't a single malevolent thing in the movie. This movie was overwhelmingly optimistic. The movie is touching, funny, exciting, romantic, beautiful, hopeful, and all around fantastic. I'd rather not go into details, so that I don't spoil the experience for anyone, but I have to defend it against these absurd accusations of being bloated with social commentary. Whether you liked it or didn't like it, if you thought this movie was about the environment or the state of humanity, you missed the point completely. Expand

As far as social commentary, it's a flippin' science fiction cartoon! Sure, Man lost his way. Sure, the Earth was ruined. In the end though, both parties benefited in a positive way. How dare anyone say that Pixar decided to make fun of fat people! Let's face it, anyone offended may have a bit of a problem themselves with the hand to mouth exercise that we call overindulgence. Funny how people recognize smoking and excessive drinking as true problems facing society, but forget that over eating is one as well. Wall-E, however, is not saying that! The movie is simply pointing out that huge corporations will do anything to not put the blame on themselves when it's their mistakes that have caused such harm. That's what made the people on the ship fat! They had simply lost the concept of what being human meant, and were slowly turning into a kind of "machine" themselves due to Buy'N'Large's huge goof! Eve was cute too! Expand

And any movie that uses romantic scenes and dance scenes from the mediocre movie Hello, Dolly! (and doesn't even include Barbra) is suspect. WALL-E is surprisingly trite -- music from 2001? That's fresh. It's just been used ad nauseum. And Sigourney Weaver voicing the ship's computer is just coy. WALL-E, can you say overrated? Expand

Wall-E is a prime example of what makes great movies great. No need to explain; just go see it. Tonight. Then go see it again. It has some flaws, like all films, but the pluses outweigh the minuses to such a degree that they can be ignored.

The first 40 or so minutes of the film are its strongest, and are really what allows us to grow so fond of Wall-E (they also show the talent of Pixar--essentially making 40 minutes of desert-digging and robotic clicks more interesting than most films i've seen--kind of like how 2001 kept your attention despite being almost intentionally boring ). After that point, the movie is good, but never quite reaches its full potential, what we would have LIKED to have seen happen. This isn't to say that the film is ever bad, but that perhaps things could have come about in a slightly more realistic manner, or that it could have achieved the same message in a slightly more subtle way). Point is: go see it. It may have a few flaws, but it still ranks as Pixar's most ambitious project to date, and may be one of its best. Expand

This was an awesome movie because of the cuteness of each and every character. Wall-E and Eve are so cutely portrayed that you wish you can have them. The animation is amazing and the story is heartwarming. Users rating Wall-E are emphasizing the fact that the humans in the movie are fat. I conclude that they're f4ggots. I would think that it is obvious that during 700 years of generations and generations, if all people do is eat and sit, of course everyone would become obese. The message in Wall-E is clear and addresses modern day problems. We need to put an end to global warming and obesity needs to be solved. We need to remember that the Earth is our home and that at this rate, humans cannot coexist with Mother Nature. Wall-E is truly a splendid film. If you do not think the movie is good, it's fine. He is either suffering from weight issues or more likely, just doesn't get the fact that this is a MOVIE! If over weight people are offended then tough! Is it ok to make a film such as the Godfather trilogy without offending Italian Americans? Cinema is at it's best, an art form. So deal with it. Easily the best movie I've seen since Lost in Translation. But better. Some have complained that the silent picture start is better than the rest of the film, but consider how the two leads desires and motives affect the story while firmly being rooted in thei own motives. Brilliant. Not since Chaplin has a film been so pitch perfect in making a statement and touching hearts. This is the kind of film (art piece) that changes the world in it's wake. Expand

My own reaction and that of my son both are negative. When the fat people plot was revealed, my son leaned over and whispered, "That is so wrong." Of course, he's grown up in a size-positive environment, but he is quite capable of deciding himself what he feels is good old-fashioned fun, what is clever speculation, and what is just a cheap grab for laughs at the cost of fat people. Both he and I felt it was the latter. I mean, what with exhaustion of renewable resources, our ability to nuke ourselves into oblivion, global warming and whatever, the worst that can happen to our planet is that we drown in garbage and then become hugely fat and lazy? Ha ha ha. I am sure one can construct some sort of justification into this movie, but in a society where fat people (and no, fat people are not a majority of the population, only statistically fat people are) are ridiculed, discriminated against, and exploited, is it really necessary for the next big Pixar megamovie to equate garbage, eating, fat, and lazy? Is it necessary to gleefully portray a ship full of obese people plop around, unable to walk or reach or anything? In my opinion, with Wall-E, Pixar is so far off, it's off the scale. Sure, some of the Pixar folks may be fat themselves, but that just makes them apologists. They did our children and the fat people in this nation and anywhere a huge disservice with this movie. More, really; a cruel slap in the face. Expand

Clearly they didn't produce this to be a big money maker. That's ok. It doesn't have to be. I liked Wall-e and the other darling robot. I loved the endearing emotions between the two but twice throughout the film I looked at my husband and asked, "What do you think the producer was thinking when he made this film?" I am a 49 year old Mother of older kids but totally enjoy children's movies. I saw the previews and was anxious to see this endearing little Wall-e. But that was about all that was endearing in the film. Exactly what I saw in the previews. That's it. An endearing little character without engaging music or scenes (except for a few). I'm shaking my head in amazement? Do they think I'm going to go home and tell my friends with children they got to go see this? Probably not happening. I was enthralled from start to finish, much like the classic silent cartoons of old (loony tunes esp) the sheer brilliance without dialog is just outstanding. The main story wasn't complex at all and it didn't matter. The undertones are just bleak as heck yet done with such wit and care to not be preachy or too overwhelmingly depressing. Ballard(or David Cronenberg) fans. What exactly happened to mankind? In "Wall-E", we know. When the green planet became the brown planet, they went in exile. It's been seven-hundred years. A robot named WALL-E is the last terrestrial-based entity left on Earth. Eve is man-made too, but she's practically an alien, since the human race no longer has any recent affiliation with their ancient home. The smooth, white surface of the feminized "other" is so much more technologically advanced than WALL-E, just as the black monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was an otherworldly presence to the apes. Since the alien's name is Eve, the knee-jerk impulse would be to name the junk-compacting robot, Adam. But since "WALL-E" operates from a Kubrickesque Weltanschauung, the "male" robot's name can't bear any biblical inference, because "2001: A Space Odyssey" exalts the concept of evolution, not creation. "WALL-E" also borrows liberally from "AI". As in the Spielberg/Kubrick collaboration, a merciless dystopian world is softened by the cute presence of a toy. The morbidly obese humans who seat themselves vegetatively before a computer screen doesn't look the least bit extrapolative, sad to report, as they suck down fatty calories with their fatty mouths. "WALL-E" is a prescient commentary of our times. "AI" tipped in Spielberg's favor(the teddy bear was awfully cutesy), but "WALL-E" is as close to a Kubrick film that's possible within the parameters of a family entertainment. Like "2001: A Space Odyssey", the exiled humans need to relearn that they're not just flesh and blood, but intelligence. The reimagining of the Star Child sequence, scored to Richard Strauss' "Thus Spake Zarathustra", is clever and awe-inspiring, not at all parodic, or self-consciously referential. "WALL-E" will blow your mind. Expand
