The animation at the beginning is awe-inspiring and the story is cute, but serious enough to get the point through. I understand some kids not finding it to be their cup of tea, not privy to many of the clever references and jokes, but I think to thoroughly dislike this film one would have to be heartless, blind, and entirely miss the point. I think that those complaining about the lack of dialogue should consider expanding their tastes (and maybe think about WHY there is little dialogue, other than the fact they are robots), and those who say it is preachy are probably reacting to some deep guilt they harbour with regards to their own day to day practices. I'm ashamed of myself for dissing Pixar like this, and I really tried to convince myself after the movie that it wasn't that bad...but I finally admit it...I am really disappointed. Ever since Toy Story I have been a huge Pixar fan I'm ashamed of myself for dissing Pixar like this, and I really tried to convince myself after the movie that it wasn't that bad...but I finally admit it...I am really disappointed. Ever since Toy Story I have been a huge Pixar fan and have yet to be let down by them until now with WALL-E. I will get the good points out of the way now because they're obvious: superb animation, shots, and direction, and I really appreciated the lack of dialog and the focus on non-verbal communication throughout most of this movie; it all helped tell the story of the Earth being left behind by humanity for clean-up by robots. However, what really sinks WALL-E is the introduction of the human characters and the confusingly poor choice by the director to combine live actors with clearly cartoon animated "actors". This really did not work. Not mention having Fred Willard as one of the main human characters; his funky humor worked well in Best In Show, but it was totally out-of-place here. As well, the development of the animated characters was sub-par and too cartoonish; they came off as unfinished to me. The other disappointing and at times annoying part of WALL-E is the overtly political and environmental tone it attempts to take on yet fails miserably. WALL-E tries to make a case for being less greedy and materialistic, and more green and caring for the Earth (how trendy). While I agree whole-heartedly with this sentiment, I felt the argument presented by WALL-E was like that of a rebellious teenager who doesn't quite know what they're fighting against but uses their emotional angst to push their point over on the world around them with little impact other than to make themselves appear naive and in vain. WALL-E came off as pushy and childish in this respect, not to mention unbelievable in its "vision" of the future should humanity continue on its mass-consumeristic course. In closing, maybe I was expecting too much from Pixar with WALL-E. I mean, the majority of reviews (critics and readers alike) as evidenced by Metacritic, are overwhelmingly great. Not to mention Pixars track record thus far. I can't help but feel perplexed at how well this movie has been received and just what it was that I missed. Expand

What's with all the comic book movies and sequels? Answer: there aren't any good ideas anymore and people apparently aren't fond of thinking while at the movie theater either. WALL-E delivers some substance at a time when there is no substance. It's a deep and dark animated movie so only take your kids under 10 if they have high IQs. The others won't get it and won't like it (you know, the future comic book movie crowd). Anyway, this movie covers love, loneliness and environmentalism all in one smooth shot. The only reason I didn't give this movie a 9 or a 10 is because there was a little bit too much meandering at the end when all the robots were running around. Trust the reviews, it's original. Expand

It was also about a driod's struggle between duty and her emotions, the man who wanted to live life, the devastation on the environment that could happen in the future, the emotionless robot who would follow orders even if it was wrong, and human-dependecy in the future. The story of WALL-E proves to be more orginal than a father clownfish trying to search for his son, the rat that wanted to cook, and the car that learned good values. Also, there was great sound mixing by Ben Brutt. There was visuals as artistic as Finding Nemo. I wouldn't count on it but... watching WALL-E marks the first time I believe an animated film deserves an oscar for Best Picture. Expand

Despite Stanton's best efforts to make his characters likable, I found myself as annoyed with Wall-E as I did with Stanton's completely over-the-top portrayal of future society, and was thus bored entirely by the film's love story. Where I failed to make any sort of emotional connection with any of the robots in the film, I hoped to at least be entertained by the film's message. And Wall-E did that. The story, though not very complicated, was intriguing, and had an unspoken but important message. Anyone that thinks this movie was about mocking obesity is simply an idiot for not reading between the lines--it's about overreliance on others, and ignorance to problems of overconsumerism. A fantastic film, and if you can't recognize that, you're less intelligent than any of the robots in this film possibly could be. Go watch "Wanted" and be mindlessly entertained. Expand

The movie was consistently funny though not often laugh out loud. It was more of a consistent grin that left you feeling a little more hope for the world if only that there is such a movie that can potentially spark one to think about how they are living and what consequences it may be having on the world. There was also a love story interwoven though strangely not of that of between humans. This sub plot I found entertaining and even somewhat touching. It also is what drove the story to it conclusions. Not to be corny but it was the power of love that saved humanity and the world not that of simple cold logic. In any case I highly recommend any adult or child to see this movie. It is good clean fun with a very apt message for the times. Expand

The love-story was sweet. The interaction of the robots was unique, and as a computer-geek I found it very fun to watch (I do believe computer gain personalities of their own...Many are created to "learn" and how else to individual personalities develop?). The depiction of our future was very realistic, in that we are becoming a lazy society. We let things we could do ourselve be done by others, or even by machines, even in this day. Who's to say that, some couple hundred years in the future we have forgotten much of our vocabulary (as the words are "obsolete"), and use "hover-chairs" instead of walking. This is as I've read another say, a short film at best. Pixar achieved greatness by introducing us to the world of computer animated feature length movies. With a few exceptions, the stories of these movies have always been the weakest link. By now the Pixar aura has faded and the computer animated feature has established its place in american cinema, but the charm of computer animated movies is long gone and now it's time to expect great stories told through computer animation. Wall-E doesn't even come close, whereas Ratatouille was a great story told through computer animation. Pixar, this is your second wake up call (hello, 'Cars'?!.. please), stop giving the writing directing jobs to your old guard studio cats. Andrew Stanton should not be writing screenplays.. Our kids loved it so much, this was the second time they saw it. I feel obligated to comment on the person who blasted Pixar for a story that dares to "equate garbage, eating, fat, and lazy? Is it necessary to gleefully portray a ship full of obese people plop around, unable to walk or reach or anything". Ok, here goes: (1) eating and lazy = fat, (2) we have shown ourselves to be a gluttenous, wasteful society = garbage and fat, (3) extended space travel has been shown to create bone loss which could potentially result in the inability to walk. I loved WALL-E (and EVE) from the simple story to the underlying warnings it includes. Let's get real: Fat is not beautiful, fat is unhealthy, for the individual and for the world. Expand
