Best animated film of the year? Definatly. Best film of the year? Probably. Definatly. Best film of the year? Probably. I went to the cinema not knowing anything about this film, it seemed to me that WALL-E was not advertised as heavily as some of Pixar's previous films such as Ratatouille, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But I must say, I personally think this is Pixar's best. WALL-E was engaging and entertaining from start to finish. Comedy is mostly subtle and well-thought out, which I think is an huge improvement on Finding Nemo. WALL-E might not be as children friendly as some of Pixar's previous, but I actually prefer it that way and I think a much broader audience can enjoy the film. WALL-E is easily one of my favourite animated films of all time. If you haven't seen it yet, don't be put off by supposedly "kiddy" visuals or storyline: WALL-E is a masterpiece for everyone to enjoy. Go see it now! 10/10 Expand

Many funny and touching moments. My Overrated, but enjoyable. As always, Pixar's visuals are beautiful. Wonderful character animation, lighting and camera work this time around (over-use of lens effects and depth of field, however.) Many funny and touching moments. My main criticism is, as many others have pointed out, is that the commentary on western culture is way too heavy handed. The portrayal of humanity in the future (morbidly obese, sheltered, addicted to the big-box way of life) is humorous but akin to being whacked over the head with a giant hammer. I expect more subtlety out of Pixar's creative minds! My tastes fall in line more with the Brad Bird teams at Pixar. Would recommend seeing the movie, but don't expect to be blown away. The pre-feature short, "Presto," was wonderful! Expand

Anyway, I hope people saying 'Wall-E is hypocritical because it's saying big corporations are bad but there are lots of Wall-E toys.' know that Pixar makes the movie and has nothing to do with the marketing. Only disney does. Anyway, this is easily tied for the best movie of the year in my book. It's message is obvious, but it's told in a moving, never before done way. The 2 main characters have an extraordinarily engrossing romance, and their total dialouge has about 4 different words total. The first half of the film is nearly dialouge-less. It uses its wonderous visuals to share its story. But whent the dialouge does come in, the story doesn't get any less intruiging and the visuals are even more involving. It's a film that has aspects most summer blockbusters have, but this doesn't make it any less fascinating or loveable. Expand

I'm kind of tired of everyone throwing Pixar a huge bone of 'wow! that was awesome! Ground breaking!' for every movie they create. They best Pixar movie, by the way, is still FInding Nemo. Anyway, the chilling scenary is juxtaposed against child-like Wall-e, and that's what makes this movie. The idea that over-consumption is going to kill the world is taken to a drastic extreme, but it's a good message. However, using the 'OMG! If you buy too much, YOU WILL GET FAT!' logic doesn't really work. Using people's fear of fat as a reason to save the environment is not a creative idea. It's a cheap idea, and the idea that the fat people in the movie were supposed to represent modern Americans is insulting to many fat people who are fat because their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were fat. Also, blaming these said fat people for destroying the world is not an original or enlightening message. Expand

At least, we will after seeing this movie. The movie beats you over the head with the fantasy that following the feelings that result from infatuation will eventually lead to happiness. It also tickles you aggressively with situations involving a bunch of obese, devolved humans. But you don't notice the bruises on your body after taking the beating because the film is so darn charming. Everyone wants to laugh at fat humans, and they also want to believe that they can be permanently happy with others that really tickle their fancy. It's a no-brainer that Pixar's latest, a futuristic tale of a scruffy little trash-collecting robot left behind on earth to do its job long after all the human residents left, who falls in love with a sleeker model, would've been a strong Top 10 contender in both the Animation and Science Fiction genres, but consider the AFI's #1 choice for Best Romantic Comedy: City Lights, the 1931 Charlie Chaplin film that Chaplin resolutely made as a silent even after silent movies had gone the way of the passenger pigeon. Well, WALL-E (the first two thirds, anyway) is PRACTICALLY a silent: there's no real dialogue since WALL-E's and EVE's conversations consist entirely of whirrs, clicks, beeps and the repitition of their own and each other's names, but that's all you need--if WALL-E's pursuit of EVE doesn't steal your heart, then ANY famous screen robot--say, Robby or Gort--has more of one than you do. It goes without saying that Pixar keeps raising the bar (and, bless 'em, has caused rival animation studios to up THEIR games: DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda and Blue Sky's Horton Hears A Who! represent their best efforts yet) but who would've guessed that the visuals of our deserted planet so effortlessly blend live-action and animation art, or at least that's what I THINK they do, that Robert Zemeckis, who's been trying hard for a similar effect with both The Polar Express and Beowulf, must've been in the theater feverishly taking notes during repeated viewings, or that WALL-E would replicate and enhance so many of Stanley Kubrick's themes and ideas, while adding in abundance the one quality that Kubrick completely lacks (except in Spartacus, which he disowned): warmth? The first two acts of WALL-E are so extraordinary that the final third, in which WALL-E and EVE learn where the earthlings went (and we get treated to The Obligatory John Ratzenberger Pixar Vocal Appearance) is inevitably going to be something of a letdown, and indeed it's just a bit too preachy and on-the-nose for me to completely wrap myself around it, but even here it's hard not to admire writer-director Andrew Stanton's utter chutzpah. His critique of a spoiled and overly-indulged consumerist society is pretty hard to resist, especially given that Pixar and Disney are themselves huge corporations relying on huge DVD and video-game sales of films like WALL-E, whose partial message is, "Hey, you kids, turn off that damn TV/computer and go outside and get some exercise!" And I love the way that WALL-E's depiction of "Buy-N-Large" is no doubt causing blood pressures to rise in the boardrooms of a certain mega-concern, who can certainly refuse to sell Robert Greenwald's documentary Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price but knows that boycotting DVDs of THIS movie would be absolute financial stupidity, even if most first graders in the audience have no problem making certain connections. One more note concerning the title character and hero: a few years ago I commented on this site that one of the many problems with Blue Sky's Robots was that it's impossible to make sharp-edged, metallic, non-furry creatures (or, more accurately, creations) cuddly and lovable. It takes a big man to admit he's wrong. Call me big. Expand

It's strong anti-capitalist and maybe anti-american theme is bold...and perhaps a little hypocritical, but an important and well times message. The film will appeal to adults more so than younger ones, which is where the film falls short of perfect. It feels like they made the film, realised it had no simple young-un thrills, and shoved some glitter on it afterwards. Apart these occasional boring parts, the film is perfectly entertaining and so so lovable. Wall-e is one of Disney most filled out characters. You might not like it, but you have to see it. Expand

From the stellar, breathtaking visuals to the amazing stories. Seriously, it seems like Pixar is one of the only companies that actually knows how to tell a great story and focuses on that, rather than Dreamworks, who just relies on quick, superficial laughs to carry its own horrendous weight (although they have come out with some masterpieces despite themselves). I had extremely high expectations for this movie, and so I was worried I would be disappointed, but this movie exceeded my wildest dreams. The characters are instantly lovable, the story is fascinating, and the movie itself is so beautifully moving, one cannot but help call it a masterpiece. These films forced the end of 2 dimensional cartoons, and I've yet to see anything to justify its demise." D.C., you are a complete and utter moron. Honestly now, how many times did you have to use the thesaurus to write that ridiculous review? Can you even define vapid without looking it up in the dictionary? The Dark Knight isn't even out yet, so why in god's name are you comparing Wall-E's scores with the Dark Knight's? How is Pixar spewing out "quick-bucks" when all 9 or so of their films have come out in a 14 year span? On top of that, every film they come out with has been critically acclaimed. Not to mention everyone else in the world seems to like them, and that's why they are so financially successful. You neglect to point out a single valid reason for why you disliked the movie. All you state is that Wall-E somehow "spends more time looking at itself in the mirror than actually doing anything meaningful." please tell me how Wall-E spends time looking at itself in the mirror and why it is supposed to be meaningful? Last time i checked movies were a form of entertainment and in being so they are there merely to entertain you, and if Wall-E didn't entertain you then you are a stubborn, ignorant, heartless obese person who came into the theater in a pessimistic cynical mood, and is refusing to accept the fact that Pixar consistently makes high quality movies. You say that these 3D films forced the end of 2D, but why would we want to still be watching movies in 2D? That's like playing an atari today when you could be playing on a wii or 360. The truth is D.C., Wall-E was a hilarious, cute, heart warming movie that had everyone else in the audience leaving the movie theater happy, so ask yourself why you are so different from the rest of us. Oh and while you are reflecting on why you are a miserable person who wakes up everyday and decides to hate the world for no reason just remember that Wall-E is a movie geared for children and their parents and the Dark Knight which you compared it to is entirely the opposite. Now that i think about it, the Dark Knight probably only appeals to you because it in itself is a dark and cynical movie just as you are. Hmmm yeah case closed. Go see Wall-E because it's easily the best movie of the summer. Expand
