A little gem of a film that makes you believe there is hope for humankind--exemplified best by a robot. Pixar has done it again.

It I only gave this a 10 because thats the highest grade this site would allow. a 10 score does not do this wonderful film justice. I had everything, it attempted something that you're not supposed to do with american animated films. It did not kneel down to the level of it's intended audiece, and actually challenged the audience, young and old, to think with the movie. It conveyed emotions superbly, by overcoming obstacles that would've made that task near impossible. No dialogue between the main protagonists, and they lack complete faces save for eyes. The film was a rollercoaster of emotions, seeing Wall-E going through life in his lonesome was sad and borderline depressing, the film was hilarious, the courtship was innocent and touching, and in the end, it was happy and hopeful. It's a simple love story told in the most complex way. Yes, there was a subplot which is a biting commentary on excessive consumerism-which I admit am guilty of myself-and I was not offended by it at all, I didn't find it preachy and heavy handed. It was the love story that carried the film and it did so magnificently. An excellent film top to bottom, a film that will truly withstand the test of time. Expand

Heatwarming and touching than most recent live action movies in recent memory. As a matter of fact, it's as touching a love story in the history of cinema, and that's saying something since its ANIMATED ROBOTS. Those who say it didn't touch them are in all likelihood just a bunch of Disney haters that went in with the sole purpose of nitpicking the movie to death (Newsflash to these people: you can pretty much nitpick any movie in film history and find flaws if you're that kind of moviegoer). I for one am not the biggest Disney Fan, but I manage to set that aside and evaluate films as it is, and this film is simply magnificent! If you open up as you watch this movie, it will captivate you. If you sit there and be a hard ass and stuff, then you'll leave cold and that is more of a testament to YOU rather than the film. This film is a classic that will be remembered and cherished forever. Expand

There are no celebrity voices, no uniquely funny characters. I'm not going to talk about the Chaplin-esque elements or the clear references to 2001: A Space Odessey. I can't grasp how this film got past the Disney exec's because most young kids are probably going to be bored by the end. The adults thought are going to have a blast with the social commentary. The people at Pixar sure love their dystopias. In "Cars", the auto-morphic vehicles played like an inside joke for J.G. Ballard(or David Cronenberg) fans. What exactly happened to mankind? Ballard(or David Cronenberg) fans. What exactly happened to mankind? In "Wall-E", we know. When the green planet became the brown planet, they went in exile. It's been seven-hundred years. A robot named WALL-E is the last terrestrial-based entity left on Earth. Eve is man-made too, but she's practically an alien, since the human race no longer has any recent affiliation with their ancient home. The smooth, white surface of the feminized "other" is so much more technologically advanced than WALL-E, just as the black monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was an otherworldly presence to the apes. Since the alien's name is Eve, the knee-jerk impulse would be to name the junk-compacting robot, Adam. But since "WALL-E" operates from a Kubrickesque Weltanschauung, the "male" robot's name can't bear any biblical inference, because "2001: A Space Odyssey" exalts the concept of evolution, not creation. "WALL-E" also borrows liberally from "AI". As in the Spielberg/Kubrick collaboration, a merciless dystopian world is softened by the cute presence of a toy. The morbidly obese humans who seat themselves vegetatively before a computer screen doesn't look the least bit extrapolative, sad to report, as they suck down fatty calories with their fatty mouths. "WALL-E" is a prescient commentary of our times. "AI" tipped in Spielberg's favor(the teddy bear was awfully cutesy), but "WALL-E" is as close to a Kubrick film that's possible within the parameters of a family entertainment. Like "2001: A Space Odyssey", the exiled humans need to relearn that they're not just flesh and blood, but intelligence. The reimagining of the Star Child sequence, scored to Richard Strauss' "Thus Spake Zarathustra", is clever and awe-inspiring, not at all parodic, or self-consciously referential. "WALL-E" will blow your mind. Expand

Totally vapid, emotionally turgid and the latest installment in Pixars never-ending "quick-buck" series, it spends more time looking at itself in the mirror than actually doing anything meaningful. These films forced the end of 2 dimensional cartoons, and I've yet to see anything to justify its demise." D.C., you are a complete and utter moron. Honestly now, how many times did you have to use the thesaurus to write that ridiculous review? Can you even define vapid without looking it up in the dictionary? The Dark Knight isn't even out yet, so why in god's name are you comparing Wall-E's scores with the Dark Knight's? How is Pixar spewing out "quick-bucks" when all 9 or so of their films have come out in a 14 year span? On top of that, every film they come out with has been critically acclaimed. Not to mention everyone else in the world seems to like them, and that's why they are so financially successful. You neglect to point out a single valid reason for why you disliked the movie. All you state is that Wall-E somehow "spends more time looking at itself in the mirror than actually doing anything meaningful." please tell me how Wall-E spends time looking at itself in the mirror and why it is supposed to be meaningful? Last time i checked movies were a form of entertainment and in being so they are there merely to entertain you, and if Wall-E didn't entertain you then you are a stubborn, ignorant, heartless obese person who came into the theater in a pessimistic cynical mood, and is refusing to accept the fact that Pixar consistently makes high quality movies. You say that these 3D films forced the end of 2D, but why would we want to still be watching movies in 2D? That's like playing an atari today when you could be playing on a wii or 360. The truth is D.C., Wall-E was a hilarious, cute, heart warming movie that had everyone else in the audience leaving the movie theater happy, so ask yourself why you are so different from the rest of us. Oh and while you are reflecting on why you are a miserable person who wakes up everyday and decides to hate the world for no reason just remember that Wall-E is a movie geared for children and their parents and the Dark Knight which you compared it to is entirely the opposite. Now that i think about it, the Dark Knight probably only appeals to you because it in itself is a dark and cynical movie just as you are. Hmmm yeah case closed. Go see Wall-E because it's easily the best movie of the summer. Expand

The premise was environmentalist, but the message was not. It was also partly a cautionary tale about rampant consumerism, but that wasn't the point of the movie, and it was NOT anti-corporate. I have no idea how so many people missed this, but the corporation in the movie was not portrayed as evil. Consumerism made us fat and lazy, but the corporation wasn't good or bad. In fact, there was no evil in the movie. There wasn't a single malevolent thing in the movie. This movie was overwhelmingly optimistic. The movie is touching, funny, exciting, romantic, beautiful, hopeful, and all around fantastic. I'd rather not go into details, so that I don't spoil the experience for anyone, but I have to defend it against these absurd accusations of being bloated with social commentary. Whether you liked it or didn't like it, if you thought this movie was about the environment or the state of humanity, you missed the point completely. Expand

I The beauty of this film is that you can enjoy it on many levels: a pure and simple love story or a story of mankind's attempt at self-destruction. Either way, I loved. Our kids loved it so much, this was the second time they saw it. I feel obligated to comment on the person who blasted Pixar for a story that dares to "equate garbage, eating, fat, and lazy? Is it necessary to gleefully portray a ship full of obese people plop around, unable to walk or reach or anything". Ok, here goes: (1) eating and lazy = fat, (2) we have shown ourselves to be a gluttenous, wasteful society = garbage and fat, (3) extended space travel has been shown to create bone loss which could potentially result in the inability to walk. I loved WALL-E (and EVE) from the simple story to the underlying warnings it includes. Let's get real: Fat is not beautiful, fat is unhealthy, for the individual and for the world. Expand

The love-story was sweet. The interaction of the robots was unique, and as a computer-geek I found it very fun to watch (I do believe computer gain personalities of their own...Many are created to "learn" and how else to individual personalities develop?). The depiction of our future was very realistic, in that we are becoming a lazy society. We let things we could do ourselve be done by others, or even by machines, even in this day. Who's to say that, some couple hundred years in the future we have forgotten much of our vocabulary (as the words are "obsolete"), and use "hover-chairs" instead of walking. And it's so refreshing to see a movie that tells a story visually instead of verbally. THAT'S why movies are made. If you want great dialogue, pick up a book. Or better yet, shut off your computer or your boob tube and talk to a REAL person. That's one of the issues this movie brings up with such wit and style it's easy to miss. Definatly. Best film of the year? Probably. I went to the cinema not knowing anything about this film, it seemed to me that WALL-E was not advertised as heavily as some of Pixar's previous films such as Ratatouille, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But I must say, I personally think this is Pixar's best. WALL-E was engaging and entertaining from start to finish. Comedy is mostly subtle and well-thought out, which I think is an huge improvement on Finding Nemo. WALL-E might not be as children friendly as some of Pixar's previous, but I actually prefer it that way and I think a much broader audience can enjoy the film.
