LoL for people complaning about a comic adaptation being different from the original.

The movies is not a 10 it's an 8, but there was so may ridiculously written critics that I'm giving 10 just to bump this movie up.

Venom is a bit of a mishmash of good and bad ideas, but ultimately I was entertained.

Odd attempt at a New York accent aside, Tom Hardy was pretty likable as down-on-his-luck reporter Eddie Brock. The chemistry between him and Venom, an alien symbiote, is surprisingly good considering that half the time Venom is just a voice in Brock's head. Heck, the inhuman, cannibalistic creature is rather charming and funny.

Venom looks great too. I was worried, because the original comic design wasn't the easiest thing to adapt to live-action, but they really nailed it here. Venom is this 'roided goo creature with a shark mouth and he looks great. The action is inventive. Director Ruben Fleischer has a good eye for scenery and lighting; there's one scene in the woods that is particularly well-shot.

On the other hand, the film waits far too long to introduce Venom. There were a lot of parts that could've been cut or shortened. The main villain is super-weak, both in performance, dialogue, and general competence. Justice League's Steppenwolf, Thor: the Dark World's Malekith, and X-Men's Apocalypse were all stronger villains that this. Jenny Slate as a scientist is given nothing but trash dialogue. Whenever the scene is on these two, you're desperately wishing they'd go back to Brock.

This is isn't a perfect film, but I walked in expecting to be entertained and I was.

P.S. Be sure to stay through all the credits.

The movie is quite enjoyable. I went to the cinema expecting an awful (due to the critics reviews), and I ended up watching a funny, with just enough actions scenes, movie. Go watch it yourself, the movie is not as bad as they say.

The only thing that I could see people not liking is it takes a bit for the movie to get going but I didn't care. Good character development. The plot of the movie was pretty simple but who cares. this is a marvel movie. If your a person that likes action from the beginning like the tards giving it a 6 then this isn't your movie. I really don't get the hate from critics. Maybe cause they sold it as a horror flick? I find it goofy fun, ironically in the same cheesy vein as the Predator movies. It wasn't marvel quality, but it was nice and venom looks GOOD.

Having wanted a venom movie since Spiderman 3 dishonored venom I've been waiting for venom to get the spotlight and boy does he have it now. The pacing is a bit slow at first but once the symbiote takes hold it is a wild ride. The action scenes are top notch and fun to watch. The cgi looks great especially venom and other symbiotes. The relationship between Eddie and venom is the best thing the movie has to offer. Tom Hardy nails his role and his dialogue with venom is both funny and a blast to watch. This is definitely an underrated movie it isn't bad at all. It's definitely not perfect, my main issues being the overall story and some out of character comedic moments but most of it is great and venom steals the show. I actually wish the movie was longer so we could see more of venom but he's shown enough so its a fair exchange. Oh and the pg13 rating feels about right, though yes venom does bite heads off in this movie and it shows it so I'm not mad about the rating. Overall it's a great movie and I hope to see more of venom and even Spiderman in future films. 8/10 Expand

Imagine reading a book, you're digging it (for the most part), you get to the last few chapters and there are a bunch of pages torn out and it looks like a little kid scribbled over a lot of it, making it difficult to read. There's enough to get the overall point, but it's missing all the flavor.

That's pretty much how I feel about Venom.

Other than that, I liked Tom Hardy; I liked Eddie's story, I liked the "buddy cop" sort of take, loved the "Venom" action until the final battle and, of course, the Obligatory Cameo (some of you know what I mean). Also, exciting mid-credits.

But, damn, this movie could have used some much better editing.

I don't know what they were expecting it to be other than a pretty entertaining superhero movie which it is. I thought the symbiote was really funny and I'll come back for a better review later. Right now I'm just doing my duty helping to correct a DEAD WRONG CRITIC SCORE and letting people know that it's worth seeing, unlike the unwatchable garbage that the critics will try to trick you into seeing instead. It's not really a ten, in fairness I'd probably give it a 7.5. And it's funny, maybe not Thor Ragnarok funny but it got a fair amount of laughs out of a guy who rarely laughs at the movies. The 10 is really just there to help thwart that 35/100 that is the average score given by 44 people with either a hidden agenda, unfair expectations, or just plain bad taste. Oh and Venom, if you're reading this I have a recommendation for your next 44 meals... Expand

A lot of critics seem to either not read the source material or do research on the character before going in or are hardcore comicLet me first start by saying, BOTH the critics and the fanboys are incredibly biased in most of these reviews. A lot of critics seem to either not read the source material or do research on the character before going in or are hardcore comic fans who will hate any changes. On the other side though, a lot of fanboys seem to just look at critics as snobby jerks who want all films to be masterpieces of art and will not even take their criticism or reasons as anything more than bias. Ironically, the fans seem more bias as they wanna just give this movie 10 scores just because Venom is in it. And that's what I hate most about this site over others sites like "OpenCritic". It's supposed to collect all the pros and cons from every review, but people just look at the scores and try to throw only 0's and 10's to manipulate the score. Just happy the user score is only a 6 because that's a more realistic score. Now with that rant out of the way, how is Venom?

Starting with the pros, the best thing to say about Venom is... well... Venom! Ya, I know, big shock, but Venom's sense of humor, powers, and chemistry with Tom Hardy's character are hard not to enjoy. Also, while I'm not a fan of the whimpy Eddie versus the more brute Eddie from the comics, I could feel for his character as he went through everything. Wrapping up the pros, the effects and CGI are pretty good most of the time.

Now while I said Venom is the best part of this movie, it does take nearly 30 minutes to an hour at most for Venom to even make an appearance so the whole first act is just following Eddie's life and man was it boring. I understand films have to establish characters and can't just throw things out at the start, but man did they take their time. It wouldn't be such a nitpick if the rest of the characters and the story weren't written so bland. Is it funny that Eddie has more chemistry with alien goo than he does with his girlfriend? And the villain is one of those generic evil corporate villains. Generic is a pretty good word to describe the whole movie. It's not laughably bad or embarrassingly made. It's just like so many other superhero movies (especially ones like Daredevil or Ghost Rider). It's got money and production behind it, but besides for a few neat moments with Venom, it doesn't do anything new. A lot of fans are giving this movie a pass just because Venom is in it, but if this was an entirely new character would you honestly care as much? With all the superhero movies coming out, you have to put some effort to make yours stand out and I don't believe Venom does. Maybe if they stuck with the R rating and a different script, we could have gotten something special. But instead, it pretty much follows all the tropes you'd expect. Everything in the final act felt rushed from Venom's motives changing last minute to the final fight between him and Riot. Maybe they shouldn't have taken their sweet ass time in the first act but instead focus more on Eddie and Venom learning to understand and work with each other or develop Riot or this evil corporate guy as better villains. Finally, as far as the action and humor, it's hit or miss. While a lot of Venom's line is pretty funny, there are some jokes like the scene with Eddie in a lobster tank that try so hard to get a laugh and go on for so long that it gets embarrassing. As for the action, there are some neat action sequences like Venom versing SWAT or the apartment fight, but there are also these awful fights and chase sequences. The final fight between Venom and Riot was just horrible and hard to watch between trying to tell the two giant dark symbiotes apart to the fast or rapid editing.

I know the cons section makes it look like I hate this movie. And I'll admit that I feel disappointed, but I won't say it's 33% on Rotten Tomatoes bad or "A turd on the screen." But anyone how gives this a 10 should seriously stop reviewing movies until you watch more of them. This site is for professional reviewers and the audience to express their own opinions on entertainment; not for all of us to spam 0's or 10's just because the majority doesn't agree with their opinion. But, those who do that will probably downvote this review anyway just because I didn't give the masterpiece that is Venom the 10 it "so strongly deserves." As for the movie, at the end of the day, I enjoyed the end credit clip of that animated Spider-Man movie more than this, but if you love this character, I see no harm in you seeing it. But only if you have deep respect for the character. Not the worst movie ever made, but one that will probably not leave much of an impact. I'd give it a 5.5 out of 10

Now if you wanna see a good movie about a "Tom Hardy like" guy who teams up with a thing inside him that lets him kick ass (good old R rated fashion), then watch Upgrade. You won't regret it.

Overall a fun movie, a few tweaks would bump it up to a solid 8/10.

--vague spoilers ahead--
Venom follows the standard MCU origin story template, despite not being an MCU movie. You've got an intriguing scifi intro, a deadbeat protagonist, a girlfriend, a happening, the protagonist becomes super and wrestles with his new superness, the protagonist starts doing cool stuff, gets betrayed, has an epiphany, becomes a better person, and beats the bad guy. Oh, and the bad guy is essentially a clone of the protagonist, but EVIL!

The tone of the movie starts out as a pretty good sci-fi horror, but abruptly switches over to comedy half way through. This tone **** was very off putting, though the jokes were funny and got a few good chuckles from the theater. To improve the movie, I'd work harder at blending the comedy and horror elements. The effects and action scenes were thoroughly entertaining, better than the recent Ant Man movie IMO. The car stunts looked pretty real, and the fight choreography was fluid. The effects for venom were spot on.

The critics aren't totally wrong however... it is noisy, a little messy, probably cut up incorrectly due to behind the scenes issues and should have been released with a 'R' rating.... but despite this, Venom is a cool anti-hero and that pulp story still packs lots of fun. We don't always need to have heroes, but as Deadpool as proved we can have some pretty good antiheroes holding up the banner

It does affect some of the character development along the story pace thus lessening the potential of what the symbiote-human threat could have implied. The Eddie Brock - Venom relationship is the best thing that works for this movie resting completely on its shoulders to rise on many occassions as a classic piece of entertainment for fans. This aspect alone makes the movie even a second time watch for Venom fans too. Trust me , the tonal mess to nurture the PG-13 audience is what holds the potential back. A slight concern might be there for VFX but that does not break the movie at all one bit. Forget that aspect and you are clearly in for a 112 minute fun ride. Oh yes, the post credit scenes are also worth watching. Expand

Now the movie has it's flaws and ass pulls, but is it bad overall? Not even close. In fact, I enjoyed it more than other superhero movies, like Black Panther and Deadpool 2. Venom's CGI was a lot better than Black Panther's for example and so was the action. What I didn't like though, was the fact that the symbiote turned out to be the good guy, which was...eh.. I'm not some comic maniac, but I always saw Venom as a raid boss in the Spiderman Universe, something that this movie doesn't make me feel. Lastly, we can argue that everything was "rushed" but as I said before, I'd take action over pointless character development. Tom Hardy was a great Venom and I'm looking forward to the second movie.. It will have my favorite villain. Expand

Venom is so bad that everything from the direction all the way to writing cannot save this film and for some odd reason, this movie is really fun to watch. Most casual audience members will indeed love this film if they don’t care about the art of filmmaking, but for those that are diehard film fanatics will bash it either way. Hate to say this but Ruben Fleischer will go down as the new Zack Snyder of Sony’s Marvel Universe in the textbooks in film and goddamn, Amy Pascal is the one to blame for all this mess especially after hearing that a 40 minute cut has been removed from the final film that Tom Hardy has mentioned about to the press not long ago. Hopefully an R-rated sequel will be in the works if Sony has a brain clicking in their mindsets because there will be Carnage coming in the mix if they chose someone that actually has talent to helm the sequel. This movie had me very justified since BvS and honestly, I think it’s worth checking it out if you like Spiderman or Venom. Looks like a cult following will come in like a turd, in the wind.. Expand

Not too sure what film the critics watched on this occasion but a 3.5 out of 10 this film is not.

The film overall is standard comic book movie stuff, I can see if your a fan of the source material you may be somewhat disappointed but judged on its' own it is an enjoyable film with solid performances from the cast all round, Hardy in particular does a great turn during Brock's more unhinged moments and the action sequences are well put together, the CGI can be a bit jarring at times but not enough to really detract from the film.

The interactions between Venom and Brock are equal parts funny and menacing which is even more amusing when you consider both are played by Hardy.

I won't go into spoiler territory but suffice to say this isn't Citizen Kane and if you went in expecting that it would be that's more of a you problem than any failing of the film, as I say I understand people upset that this isn't a faithful adaptation of the source material but the fact remains this is a solidly enjoyable comic book film well worth your time and money.

It appears to be different from comic and it has to be different since it is a movie and limited to creativity. Hence I believe that critics gave it low scores. but who really cares about what critics think? just book your show for Venom blindly. I guarantee it will not disappoint you. I will personally rate it as 8+ 1 for tom hardy. filled with action scenes and It is actually more focused on Eddie Brock managing his two different ego. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mediocrity might be common, and even enjoyable at times, but "Venom" fails to rise to this low bar. The writing is utterly dreadful even by the standards of brainless action movies. Watching various symbiote hosts devour living things or literal garbage is repulsive teen gross-out comedy, and it takes the better part of an hour to get to decent action. The action itself is servicable at best: the anti-heroic ultraviolence that -could- have been part of a Venom film was sacrificed, simply because the studio could not risk losing younger teenagers who wouldn't be turned off by the film's many flaws. The main characters, Evil Brown Elon Musk and Moron Loser Journalist, spend most of the film acting like either idiots or lunatics, and usually both. Tom Hardy in particular has a character who thinks he's a brave truth-teller, but is really a foolish, selfish and amoral manipulator who will sell out his romantic interest and friends for clicks on his poorly considered exposes. People praising his acting here are either badly informed about schizophrenia, which is what I assume his performance as a vagrant was meant to draw awareness to, or confusing this with one of his many superior movies.

This movie makes Tom Brady turn in a less compelling and masculine performance than Topher Grace. That really should be the only insightful critique required.

The romantic interest is intelligent and attractive, which makes you wish the symbiote would simply stay with her, and her new surgeon boyfriend is obviously the best person in the film. However, God did not spare Sodom when he failed to find ten righteous men, and so I found myself hoping that the Venom symbiote would slaughter this worthless fictional city, which shows psychopathic disregard for the plight of the literally disposable homeless. Ah, and now I see the topical commentary! I'll bump this movie up to a 4.

The symbiote looks powerful and interesting, and its frankness about being a loser on its home planet was a refreshing and understandable spin on the Venom mythos. Sneeringly declaring its host a **** was not only a (rare) appropriate and effective joke at that moment of the film, but had the virtue of being wholly accurate.

Being a heterosexual man, I've rarely felt deep kinship with legions of Lady Gaga fans, but if they require shock troops against this awful movie, I shall volunteer for the front line. Stay away, brave consumer.

The Good:
- Tom Hardy gives a solid performance.
- The back-and-forth between Eddie Brock and Venom is very entertaining. Venom's humor is a little childish at times, but I chuckled quite a bit. - If you turn your brain completely off before it starts, you will be entertained.

The Bad:
- This is a messy CGI fest of a film. It looks entirely fake at times, and the action scenes were a huge let down. - Riot may be one of the weakest villains I've seen in a comic book film in a long time. Riz Ahmed is a great actor, but this wasn't the role for him. The final fight of the film was a bit of a joke.
- This script is far from great. The dialogue is weak and the story is all over the place.
- The PG-13 rating significantly hurt this film's potential as far as violence goes, because for a Venom film there was a severe lack of violence. - I laughed several times at moments that were clearly meant to be taken seriously. - I commend Sony for trying out a different kind of spin-off film focusing on a character other than Spider-Man, but this was a huge swing and a miss.

Honestly it should have skipped the whole first act. It was stuffed with nonsense and drama that had no emotional attachment because of awkward pacing either being rushed or taking to long to pay off. However when the title character shows up it definitely picks up the pace but its a disjointed and confusing ride from then on out. There are giant holes in some of the logic the characters use, and its hard to understand who knows what at any one point. To be fair I think the acting is fine, the action in the end is decent but where it shines is definitely the interaction between Eddie and Venom and thats where my biggest complaint comes from, it feels like there was 3 or 4 different movies in this film. "Venom" jumps around in tone and pacing like the screenwriter was on a pogo stick. Some cute romance, to a serious journalist trying to expose wrongdoing, to a sulking loser to, espionage, horror film, then full throttle action comedy. Which I think the latter, the film truly excelled at, if it had chosen a single genre to tell its story I think Sony would definitely be able to make a statement for a "venom" villain-verse. However they over extend and tried to mash every hero movie from a decade into one 90 minute PG-13 movie instead of taking a leap of faith with an R rating and making something truly special. Disappointed but enjoyed the 2nd half of the movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Venom, a character study.

Wow, this movie snuck-up on me. Hearing the overwhelmingly negative response from critics, and the reasonably positive response from movie-goers, it had left me jaded walking into the movie, however, I was very happy with the final result. Oddities:
In Australia, this movie was M15+, the profanity in it was pretty prolific (now, I'm not one to worry about that at all, as my favourite comedians are/were horribly profane - Jim Jefferies, Bill Burr, George Carlin, Bill Hicks), and the movie was thematically and visually dark - I wouldn't take my children to see this movie but we watched Ant-Man & the Wasp together and it was the same rating. My point here is that - surely, this wasn't far off an R rating and I don't think it would have undermined the box office performance - which I am very excited by because it opens up this entire world and universe - and brings the potential for one of the most immoral villains to come to the big screen in the sequel.
Anyway, I digress...
I really instantly connected with the character. I suffer ADHD, which essentially means that before I was diagnosed and receiving treatment, I tended to (often) make poor choices in interpersonal situations - saying inappropriate things without thinking of the consequences, I also lived very slovenly and was, generally - 'clever, but a hot mess'... So, Tom Hardy played to that aspect really well in the initial beats of the film. Now, I don't know if that's what he was going for, or if he was trying Schizophrenia/Dissociative Identity Disorder on (which seemed to be the modus operandi once infected with the symbiote), but nevertheless, it was clear that he too suffered from ADHD and wasn't receiving treatment for it, so the connection for me was instantaneous and highly personally gratifying, whereas for others, I know that they'd likely not feel the same way as I did...

I know that people were worried about the anti-hero aspect of the film in that "he's a hero as he saves the world" for the most part - yes - I will agree with this that he is more righteous than we may have thought he should be, however, he's not self-righteous, and he does bad, terrible, horrible things, like eating heads - or entire people (as he does in the end when he devours the convenience store robber) - and I'm sorry folks - HEROES DON'T DO THAT. Heroes do what they can to protect the innocent, and provide the bad guys to authorities so they can face consequences, they don't eat them... I am partial to a good anti-hero - I love the Punisher on Netflix - Jon Berenthal embodies him spectacularly, and I honestly didn't think that anyone could do it after Tom Jane's excellent turn in the movie in the early naughties, but again, I digress... I think Tom Hardy has done a marvellous job in this. I could see that there were numerous issues with the technical aspects of the film (CGI seemed cut-down and lower-budget) and a lot of it was left on the cutting-room floor, however, I had no trouble following the fights (which others have complained about) and I think that Michelle Williams and he were absolutely spot-on in their relationship - speaking from personal experience, "we" tend to... put people off, even our most loved ones, so for them to not have a great deal of chemistry, well that to me, was natural - I have messed up so many relationships as a result of my impulsivity and lack of self-awareness or of consequences, so it was reasonable that when he destroyed his and her career, that she would have had enough - clearly he'd messed-up before and hadn't gotten out of his own way.

I actually liked the villain in the piece, and I saw how both he and his bonded symbiote were driven to the same outcome in the end - infect humanity to save humanity, so to me that too was spot-on.

So, can I say to you, that if you watch it with very low expectations, as I had - you WILL be pleasantly surprised. I can't wait for the next instalment, Spider-man or no - but I do think that if some sort of deal can be spun, this would be perfect for a team-up for Maximum Carnage. Tom Hardy rocks and his performance in this movie is no exception - see it - just don't take your kids because it'll scar/scare them.

I also do not mind (too much) the shallow development of its characters because that usually comes with making a 'fun' film. I also do not mind making a cash grab. Seriously! As long as its executed properly. What I do mind, though, is how much this film struggles to do as little work as possible in the department its most interested in: 'fun'.

Ripping apart the credits, the duration sits somewhere close to 1 hour and 40 minutes which is closer to a b-movie local television evening running than a theatrical release. Of course, length is not an issue on its own. Its what is contained in it. 'The Wolf of Wall Street' is over 3 hours long but somehow this feels emptier. And that its mostly due to its awkward pace resulted from its excessive editing. Ruben Fleischer's lack of interest is simply to obvious here. Characters change their mind at an illogical pace, villains depart and arrive out of nowhere, and some decisions contradict each other. These are not movie ruining directing moves when your idea is dynamic action, but its just too obvious and shameless here.

Despite its merciless cutting, we have many unnecessary scenes still left somehow. Mostly, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) stumbling through life and having wanna-be hard times themed everyday conversations with local folk. Out of all these interactions, the only ones which are a bit funny are Brock interacting with his symbiote, but even these wear thin quickly. And Hardy definitely gave his best. His performance is maybe one of the only two redeeming features of this film along with its killer special effects and dynamic action scenes (especially the motorcycle chase) and special effects.

In the end, 'Venom' is nothing more than a glorified action flick. Talkative epic villains, cool brooding action dude and a snowflake girlfriend. But its spread to thin and its shallowness is too obvious.

Bad acting, predictable plot, very boring during the first hour, poor CGI, only good characters are the store clerk and the symbiote.

This movie is a waste of time. An offensive paint-by-numbers Sony product with no reason to exist.

Although he posses extreme powers, he's not exactly a superhero. Actually, he starts as a villain…an aggressive goo from outer space that absorbs into a human's body. As the trite plot continues, he becomes an ally with his final host (Tom Hardy). Hardy's an extremely talented actor, but the attempts at befuddled comedy aren't that strong (It's directed by Ruben Fleisher, best known for the very clever "Zombieland.") Instead of playing the hapless hero, he should probably stick to his more established brooding types. The action is the typically noisy, messy junk that populates this pix. The effects are decent, but nothing special. One of Marvel's misfires. NOTE: Stay thru the credits for an extended chase sequence from the upcoming animated Spiderman (which looked more promising than much of "Venom"). Expand

I don't get the negative press for this one. It's a perfect film in every way. It has a good buildup, good acting and dialogue, loads of cool actions scenes. Don't let the low scores put you off as you may enjoy it as much as I did.

Thus we get Venom,Sony may have finally agreed that the MCU can use Spider-man after failing to start up their Amazing Spider-man film series, but that doesn't mean that they can't keep milking their biggest cash cow in every way they can. Thus we get Venom, one of Spider-man's biggest enemies getting a new origin without Spider-man and a film franchise of his own. The end result is a strange mixture of dullness, weirdness and a few blushes of genuine fun scattered throughout. Set in San Francisco, the film stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, a journalist who is going after a man named Carlton (Riz Ahmed), a multi-billion dollar entrepreneur who is in on the verge of many breakthrough discoveries and is involved with several deaths. Whilst investigating one of his facilities, Eddie comes in to contact with one of the symbiotes that were brought to earth by one of Carlton's deep space discoveries. This symbiote then attaches itself to Eddie and creates Eddie's new personality called Venom.

Probably the biggest disappointment for anyone who's a fan of the comics will be that they never showed how the symbiote corrupts its host through its power. Even Spider-man 3, in spite of having one of the worst dance sequences put to film, still showed how the symbiote blended with Peter and was able to corrupt anyone it came into contact with. But in this film Venom and Brock live mostly in harmony, with Venom never really trying to take over and never actually doing anything evil either. Venom does still try to engage in a few horror elements, with the overall plot of the film resembling a classic monster movie formula and Venom's gothic design feeling like it's been ripped right from the pages of the comics. However, this does often lead to the film being tonally confused, with something that should be horrifying like Venom taking over another character and making them kill other humans for the first time is played up for laughs. Despite several moments clearly being cut out of the film, mostly as a result of Sony cutting out several darker moments to avoid an R rating, Venom does have a few creative action sequences earlier in the film. They take full advantage of Venom's powers, morphing and extending his arms in to various weapons. Unfortunately the actions sequences do seem to get worse as the film goes on, with a final battle between two symbiotes which ends up being the kind of computer generated mess that you would expect to see in a Transformers movie. Though the main driving force that gives this franchise some potential is Tom Hardy. Whilst he doesn't get the opportunity to show himself being slowly corrupted by the symbiote, it is great to see Hardy get a chance to stretch his comedic muscles, arguing with a character than nobody else can see like a psychotic version of Will Ferrell from Stranger than Fiction. Unfortunately outside of Venom there's not much for the supporting cast to work with. The villain played by Riz Ahmed feels just like any other crazed entrepreneur and whose motivations are never made clear. Also Eddie's ex-girlfriend is played by Michelle Williams, who does have some good chemistry with Tom Hardy but also has so little to do in the film that her role feels pointless. Overall, it's not the best set up for a franchise (which like every other superhero film already has an after credits scene already confirming a future sequel). There are a few things to work with through the fun dynamic between Eddie and Venom and the creative designs, but hopefully a future sequel will be able to develop Venom's character more effectively.

Ahmed carries his weight well against him but sadly, His villain doesn't get that much screen time so it's hard to really establish him. The dark humour is solid, No objection to that. The action is really watered down to keep that PG-13 rating and I pray that the sequel is rated R. And I absolutely hate that it takes an entire hour for Venom to finally appear onscreen and 40 minutes after that, The movie is over. So you don't really get much there, Which is a shame because Brock/Venom is the best part of the movie. Overall, Venom is watchable but far from perfect and it should have been so much better than what it was. Expand

As someone who had hundreds of Spider-Man comics when I was younger (I even owned a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 featuring the first full appearance of Venom), this is the PERFECT Venom origin story. And when I see Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Venom's alter ego, it makes me feel happy, contented and as fuzzy as the symbiote. In the comics, Eddie Brock is a character that is a bit of an outcast, is unsure of himself and gets even more confused (initially) when Venom entered his life, and Tom Hardy channels Eddie Brock to perfection!!! Venom in the comics had some dark-ish humour, and the humour that Venom spouts in the movie is spot on - in fact Venom gets the best one liners. And the biggest laughs from the audience. The movie portrays a beautiful symbiotic relationship between Eddie Brock and Venom, and shows progression in their relationship throughout the movie. The CGI for Venom is also spot on, making him a highly flexible and versatile character with the symbiotic extensions doing some cool stunts. It makes Venom look cool and dangerous at the same time. The pacing is just right, and Tom Hardy's versatility as an actor really stole the show, so much so that this would work even if this was a one man show. And the post-credit sneak preview is "one to die for" - I DEFINITELY want to see the next Venom - it'll be CGI carnage...

Peeps, forget the previous incarnation of Venom, this is the REAL deal. Possibly the best movie I've seen in 2018 to date. Stuff the stuffy professional critics. They haven't had any clue for the past 25 years and are no longer credible sources for good movies - much like the fake news. Go watch Venom. It's da bomb!

The end very hurried and many things were missing in explaining (you notice the 40 minutes that are missing), very ridiculous moments and a villain that just in the last 5 minutes of film we got to know and what their intentions are. The loose music and the action scenes are not understood very much.
The good: Tom Hardy, the CGI and the Eddie / Venom interaction (although it is rare).
Not as bad as Catwoman but not as good as the fans say.
