Ok, so yes, we have been here before. Nonetheless, the film was still an entertaining ride for lovers of sci-fi and horror genres. It has all the prerequisites of jump-scares and gore for a relaxing Saturday afternoon of movie watching.

Folks dispute the acting abilities of Kristen Stewart, but in this role I found her to be focused and action-oriented, showing caring and sacrifice for the well-being of others, and gritty determination under pressure. The premise of the movie is certainly compelling, the pitch-black depths of the ocean remain unpierced to humanity as we obsess upwards to space, driven by billionaire egos. There are secrets below which we may never uncover, and some we certainly should not. There are also accusations of riffing off Alien, and some are valid, especially along the lines of embryo design, ship/suit aesthetics etc. But similarities stop there, the movie stands unique. Lovecraft left behind a deeply disturbing mythos of the sleeping old one Cthulhu, and this is perhaps the only movie to bring that to life in an appropriate scale and majesty. My fear of the deep dark is renewed. Expand

A surprisingly really good sci fi movie. I had low expectations. I thought I would be annoyed by kristen Stewart but she was ok in the role. Just a couple corny lines but otherwise movie was good and understated.

In theory, this had disaster written all over it (literally and metaphorically) - Kristen Stewart in an Alien rip off made for the remake generation. I had low expectations, but was proven wrong.

The first plus point, it was a brisk 95 minutes long, which meant it started and didn’t really stop until it stopped. There was no time for inane dialogue from hapless idiot characters, that could only be written by and appeal to twelve-year old’s.

As a regular last-man standing monster movie, I felt it tried hard not to give us too many clichés. There was no forced confrontation between two macho types, or too many headless chicken panic scenes. Ok, so Kristen Stewart was her usual mono-emotion self, but I could live with that because the script didn’t call for anything else. I loved the look of the film. The suits they wore and the claustrophobic feel of the sets, the murky water, it all gelled well.

The biggest minus for me was the monsters. Not scary. Floppy, squidy, gangly things aren’t creepy, they just look daft. Also, the end was a bit lame. Two odd little things I noticed – there was no toothpaste on Kristen’s toothbrush at the very beginning, and I’m sure I heard a sound bite from Alien in one of the early control room scenes.

All in all this deserved more than the critical thrashing that it got. Did it sink or swim? It swam, albeit with a desperate doggie paddle at times.

Well, let's just say Kristen Stewart does not have too many facial expressions but I still liked her performance. The female lead is also a nod to "Alien", I guess. And I also understand the criticism of the visuals and audio being blurry and unintelligible. That indeed made it more realistic and atmospheric but I wished they had used it more sparingly. Expand

A well-made creature-feature; it may not be original, but it is entertaining

Underwater was shot in early 2017 and then sat on a shelf for over two years. Now that it's finally seeing the light of day in the January release window - a period traditionally dominated by duds and cast-offs; films the studios don't care about for one reason or another. A recent high-profile example is Blackhat, Michael Mann's underrated 2015 cyber-terrorism drama. However, much like Blackhat, Underwater is considerably better than most January releases. Sure, it's clichéd and predictable, and it shamelessly borrows from a litany of superior genre films, but it's also a very entertaining and enjoyable aquatic creature-feature.

At an unspecified point in the future, humans are attempting to drill into the ocean floor at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, almost seven miles down. As the film begins, the station is hit by a series of unexplained vibrations, causing a cascading pressure breach. Norah (Kristen Stewart) and Rodrigo (Mamoudou Athie) manage to escape and seal off the area so as to slow, but not prevent the inevitable implosion of the whole station. Shortly, they encounter other survivors – Cpt. Lucian (Vincent Cassel), Paul (T.J. Miller), Liam (John Gallagher, Jr.), and Emily (Jessica Fenwick). Lucien says their only hope of escape is to use pressurised suits to walk the one-mile distance to the drilling station and use the escape pods located there. And so they descend to the dark ocean floor. However, they soon discover that they aren't alone.

Written by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad, and directed by William Eubank, Underwater walks a very fine line between rip-off and homage. The most obvious touchstones are Alien (1979) and The Abyss (1989), but one can also see the influence of films such as Leviathan (1989), Event Horizon (1997), Sphere (1998), and Sunshine (2007). In short, the set-up is your classic "group of isolated people getting picked off one by one".

Kicking into high-gear immediately, the opening scene is the initial implosion, and it's a good five minutes before things calm down. In essence, Underwater is the inverse of Alien in this respect, with all hell breaking loose before we know anything about anyone. Indeed, the only character we even see before the implosion is Norah. I wouldn't want every film to open this way, but it has an undeniable kineticism and appealing volatility, which Eubank does a decent job of maintaining throughout the next 95 minutes.

Aesthetically, there's a lot to like here. Production designer Naaman Marshall does a fine job, with the world feeling lived-in and authentic. Making especially good use of tunnels and low ceilings, there's a real sense of claustrophobia. This is aided immensely by Bojan Bazelli's cinematography. During scenes outside, he often shoots from within the characters' helmets, and even when the characters are inside, he often shoots in tight close-ups, heightening the sense of enclosure. When outside, the film uses the limited visibility to its advantage in establishing a tone of ominous danger. Some will probably find these scenes too dark, but I'd argue that that is precisely the point; the characters can't see much of anything, and neither can we.

Elsewhere, obviously inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, particularly Cthulhu, Abner Marín's creature design is suitably creepy and grotesque. The aesthetic element that really stood out for me, however, was Wayne Lemmer's sound design. The implosion scenes are accompanied with some bone-rattling LFE, whilst the ominous ambient sounds of the station are a constant reminder that it's on its last legs. The scenes outside are equally as impressive, with some excellent use of directional sound - it's a film that I would imagine will sound incredible on a 7.1.2 Atmos system.

In terms of problems, well, it isn't really about much of anything. There's a vague ecological theme that's brought up a couple of times, but it never amounts to anything even half-way substantial. There's also next to no characterisation. We learn bits and pieces about Norah and Lucien's backstories, but apart from that, the film is peopled by perfunctory cardboard cut-outs. There's also a rather unjustified use of voiceover to bookend things, and at times, Eubank seems somewhat confused as to whether he's making a disaster movie or a monster movie.

Underwater never manages to rise anywhere near the heights of films such as Alien and Sunshine, but it still deserved better treatment than it received from the studio. Given the January release, the clichéd setup, the two-year limbo, and the bland title, I wasn't expecting much from this, but I was pleasantly surprised. It won't change your life, but it's an entertaining and well-made creature-feature.

The film has a stunning visual range. All these wetsuits, cabins, water depths, and the overall dynamics of the story carried me like a turbo.

• The creators of the film from the first minutes, without going into details and details of what is happening, twists the viewer into the abyss of events. And because of this, the General narrative and empathy for all the characters suffers. Of which there are only seven. Cassel scenario, although it takes an important role, but the dialogues and participation with him, like a cat did not cry. Drags the entire Kristen Stewart movie. I personally am very pleased to see how much she has grown professionally in terms of acting. Grew up, prettier and leveled up skill.

• It is impossible not to mention the juiciest sound and soundtrack. But it is, in principle, be heard still on the trailer. A real treat for my ears. In places, the music is very similar to the OST "blade Runner 2049".

• I don't know what medicine critics got the idea that this is some kind of carbon copy of "Alien." In" Under water", the monster (monsters) and people do not feel like a "predator - prey (victim)"scheme. "Underwater" is 80% action movie, and the remaining 20% action Thriller. "Alien" was more about survival, history, and characters. The General mood, what is happening on the screen and "familiarity" with monsters in" Underwater " takes place in a different pattern. Kristen Stewart's character was dubbed Amanda Ripley... What? From where such thoughts? How are they fixed? And then all the spectators grabbed this banner and dragged it to the masses. "Under water" is a completely independent work.

• The movie has problems with the script and opening characters, but everything about sound, action, Kristen Stewart and the overall visual is just SUPER! I'll go to IMAX next week. What I recommend to you!

They pay reference to “underwater gods” and creatures from H.P Lovecraft’s writings and think that in itself is awesome because I have yet to see a movie like that on the big screen. The camera work was a bit iffy at times, but I felt it made the movie feel more real. It does have a few bumps in the road in terms of story, but it sure is entertaining. It definitely deserves a watch ! Expand

Really? Have you guys watched many movies? There are so many cringeworthy, terribly made movies in the action/horror genre. This one was actually pretty good compared to the majority of others like it. I enjoyed it. I was entertained. I was not expecting, nor needing, it to be some deep masterpiece, and thought it was a decent entry into the action/horror mix. So, why so much hate for this movie? Because you hate Twilight and anybody who got their start from it? Because you hate Kristen Stewart? Because you don't like when action movies have a female lead? For real, there are many terribly made movies out there that deserve this level of vitriol for how painfully bad they are, but this movie isn't one of them. It was just an okay, entertaining, quick action/horror flick, not "an atrocity". Expand

The proposal isn't really new but lent itself to something more stimulating and not so conventional, therefore the story cannot exploit its cast properly and fails to be more enveloping.

I liked the tone and the atmosphere it's okay but the film replaces a suspense that could continue to be thunderous but subtle with an accelerated pace of action that avoids all kinds of dramatic depth.

It offers entertainment and that after all is its offer but how entertaining it is will really end up depending on each viewer.
For my part it was just a pretty regular movie.

This a good example of a movie knowing exactly what it's audience wants and how to achieve it. From the concept alone you know your in for some B-movie style horror and the film doesn't waste time and gives you just that. The acting is also pretty solid especially the performance given by Kristen Stewart, who plays our main character Nora. Plus the film just looks amazing it captures the darkness of the bottom of the ocean wonderfully. However the film has one major problem, that being it's story is bland and almost non-existent and the set up is vary stereotypical. Yet this doesn't bother me. I have no explanation for this other than the fact that I like horror movies like this. In conclusion if you like horror than you could do worse than this film. Expand

Very disaster film-esque, it has some accurate and shocking moments for the dangers of going so deep underwater and contending with the tremendous pressure of the ocean. My biggest complaint is that many times I couldn’t tell what was going on visually with most of the “action” type sequence and scenes. This was because of the accuracy they strived for in the visuals making it so dark. It works well for the atmosphere, but it felt somewhat abusive in respect to how some movies just start shaking the camera to act like something is happening. This would be shaken camera in the dark I guess. The design of the sets/location are fantastic as well as the costumes. The big suits they wear are great and whoever’s responsible for the creation of them should be proud. A minor complaint is in the sound design. Not the overall sound design, but one specific moment. Movies are starting to borrow ideas from gaming and one that doesn’t translate well, mostly because the film makers don’t ask why they should or shouldn’t use it, is the in scene voice over “Welcome too...”advertising trope. It where you just set foot in some business or company and you hear a voice narrating a welcome message describing what the company does to fill in back story. It wasn’t necessary and kind of distracted from the scene. The acting is good and I think it was well cast. It does have horror film elements and could be scary for even young adults. I will say that they are few and far between and just as frightening as the real world dangers they have to face, but they were awesome. I will definitely be watching this again despite the fact that I wasn’t thrilled with the ending because it was very entertaining. Expand

The whole thing looks really, really good. I think the futuristic underwater suits in these may be among some of my favorite sci-fi suit designs. It is clear that effort was made to plan out the future deep sea oil rig this movie takes place in and around. The huge scale to this whole thing is made clear. You get a great opening shot of how deep the operation is. For a movie shot with a lot of darkness scenes, it is well lit. Cinematography, creature design, and pacing are all tight.

The best parts are the beginning and the end. These are the moments that buck expectations. I don't want to spoil anything, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Only downside is that the music and sound effects are too loud at points and the dialogue is so quick that you can miss plot points if you're not paying attention.

This is fun. Definitely didn't deserve to be held back for almost three years and dumped in January. I recommend this specifically for the beginning and ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A decent January movie with fairly good (and at least two very good) actors, and with a better director, film editor, and set design, this movie could have been more entertaining. The sea “monsters” were perhaps the most disappointing of all – looking more like large slugs than anything else. Because the pacing was fairly good, the movie held my attention, and I cared about some of the characters. Sadly, what the movie lacked was a feeling of real claustrophobia, tension, and menace. The acting too was good and the underwater darkness made for a great atmosphere. That said, I had several grievances (in no particular order):
1. It was hard to follow the dialogue on account of them speaking while in diving gear and the constant noises presumably coming from the collapsing surroundings.
2. The darkness in combination with the choppy editing of some of the action sequences made it hard to follow what the hell was going on at times.
3. The monsters behaved very irrationally, sometimes super aggressive, sometimes very skittish. Pick one and stay consistent.

All in all there's worse ways to spend a couple of hours, especially if you have a weakness for monster movies, like I do.

Surprisingly fresh and well done art direction and sets? It's a great feeling to expect the usual crap and be surprised, and that's what happened here for me. Right from the action filled opening scene, the movie ticks along at an engaging pace. Instead of groaning at cliched dialog and messy plot holes I found myself enjoying and savoring each scene. What makes it impressive is the very fact that it IS a cliche movie, yet the director Leigh Whannell treats it seriously, as do the actors and apparently everyone else who worked on it. It's like they challenged themselves to take an existing aesthetic and push it further. And to any lover of these genres and sci-fi in general, I feel it shines through. I lament that many viewers will lazily grasp at surface level conclusions and miss the solid filmmaking seen here. Halfway through it struck me that the story is a story that has been told since we took to the seas. Over and over. A fable. It's MEANT to be re-told, in a way. This is just the latest iteration. A tale of caution to beware the gods of the deep. So sure, expect a cliche. Also expect a fun and thrilling popcorn flick. But try to leave your judgements behind and just enjoy it for what it is. I bet you'll have fun. I fully expect this film to be a sleeper hit! Expand

The underwater commotion was extremely difficult to keep up with sometimes due to how much the camera moved and the darkness/murky nature of the location. I had some serious problems with the editing in the first & third acts, which felt rushed and very 'early 2000s'. A similar issue I had with the sound mixing, which was noticeably clunky and didn't help that headache. Overall, it was fun and silly enough to keep me entertained. Just please stop the unnecessary narration trend - it's tiresome. 5.5/10 Expand

I enjoyed director William Eubank's ambitious eye for futuristic sci/fi in his other films; LOVE and The Signal, but he upped the ante to gargantuan heights in this film. Eubanks should be a director to watch for the Sci/fi thriller genre as he is absolutely brilliant with his keen eye for detail and intense visuals. Apparently this film was shot in 2017 but Fox studios waited on it. There is definitely influence throughout from films such as Alien, Leviathan, The Abyss, Sphere, and even Cloverfield, but it utilizes those inherent aspects perfectly to still have its own incredibly vicious identity. The film starts with insane intensity and never lets up with action and thrills in its massively detailed set pieces and terrific deigned brutal creatures. The cast is uncanny but surprisingly charming, intriguing, and funny at times. I think part of this film's unfortunate partial sabotage ratings/bad box office (15Mworld on 80M budget) comes from people misjudging Kristen Stewart for this particular role. She doesn't deserve the hate she gets and is actually phenomenal in this story with a great deal of emotion and perseverance. TJ Miller is the comedy relief and hilarious as always. Vincent Cassel is his solid standard self, and the others are solid as well. As things progress in depths things get viscerally chaotic with some of the coolest creatures I've seen and I've seen them all as a big sci/fi guy. The creature designs are impeccable, and i give the visual effects team great respect for conjuring up such ballistically sinister deep sea monsters. After so many films it has to be difficult to keep coming up with unique concepts for these creatures but they had huge imagination with these. Trust me when I say the final act is GARGANTUAN in itself. Overall this film is a visual feast for the eyes and ears (soundtrack/sound fx amazing as well) of most Sci/fi/thriller/action/horror fans especially creature/monster fans. I think this will go down as one of the better deep sea horror's when people finally see it. Don't let the misleading low ratings fool you, as this is a fantastic film. Expand

-S2S: Movie Reviews

Glub Glub Glub…. that’s bottom of the ocean talk for “Welcome to Stream to Big Screen”. This week we were able to review the movie, Underwater. Underwater features Kristen Stewart as mechanical engineer, Norah, who gets trapped in the world’s largest and deepest drilling site and laboratory at the bottom of the ocean. Norah and the rest of her crew of aquatic researchers must find their way to safety and back to the surface before the laboratory, or worse, kills them. The Director, William Eubank, who has two previous directing credits to his name for The Signal (2014) and Love (2011) which didn’t do anything in theaters, also has another upcoming feature, Tautona, which sounds quite interesting. Interestingly enough, Eubank has a common theme in his films of space or the deepest part of the ocean or cave. Uninterestingly enough for Underwater, the film seems to be following his other films into obscurity.

Let’s brighten this review up before it gets dark like the bottom of the ocean. This will be quick. Kristen Stewart was her typical lifeless, seemingly drugged, emotionless self. Surprisingly, that didn’t ruin the movie. Kristen does a solid job leading us to the end of the movie as she is the main focus. The only other character of note is a crew member played by T.J. Miller. Without T.J., the film would’ve gone without it’s comic relief. Thank you, T.J. That’s all for the positives folks.

Other than that, the film lacks development. If you should choose to see the movie, truly pay attention to the opening credits and newspaper articles like I did. The headlines of those articles basically give you the background of the film and that’s all you get. The movie felt rushed. Strangely, the movie also slows down at times to bring anticipation and those moments also fail. The film lacks direction and development. There are context clues and slight discussion in the movie but none of it leads you to even really dive into the movie (you see what i did there *nudge nudge*). The little bit we get about each character’s background only highlights every predictable character trope.

Now, I must admit that I do love a bad movie. My wife and I set up date nights to try to find a good terrible movie on a streaming service, and Underwater doesn’t even fill that slot. It’s one of those movies that is trying so hard to be good, and it’s just failing at all aspects.

Now, watching the trailer, you will know and see that there is a creature that is attacking the crew. If you haven’t seen the trailer, please watch it below. From the trailer, the creature looks like trash and during the actual movie, IT GETS NO BETTER. In fact, it gets worse. The movie really skimped on CGI, but the parts they did pay for I will admit were slightly cool. Needless to say, the creature you came to see attack them isn’t even worth the money.

This movie is nowhere near worth watching in the theater. They tried hard to give us suspense, comic relief, and a “scary monster” but it all failed, except a few giggles and a couple moments that made you say “ooooooo”. At best, this movie gets one single popped corn. Check Underwater out after a solid 10-15 minutes of scrolling through your favorite streaming app and prepare to underwhelmed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have the writer and director never seen Alien or The Thing? Pace of movie is rushed. No character development. Scenes are disorienting. Diving suits impede the action; plus don't ever light a movie with diving suit lights. Absolutely, nothing new in this movie. But after watching it I'm much more appreciative of the long list of movies that it copied. Deep Blue Sea was a masterpiece compared to this stinker. I shouldn't have said that, DBS was a great movie in and of itself. Not one memorable scene in this forgettable flub.
Warning spoilers ahead... Horrific plot hole at the end. 2 lithe females could have easily fit into an escape pod. Also, the computer graphically showed the exact destructive range of the reactor damage specifically in regard to the escape pods. Very intuitive computer program!! OMG! did the writer come with this tripe on his coffee break? Lazy writing!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A sci fi horror movie that grabs you and does not let you go to catch a breath.
Underwater (3.5 out of 5 stars).

Underwater is a science fiction horror film that delivers a claustrophobia thriller with a good cast ensemble and performances, edgy music score, and a direction that feels like this film is trying to bring back a 1980s sci fi thriller like Alien movies, The Thing, or The Abyss (minus the creatures in this movie). I will say the film packs a punch with putting you into the action in the opening scene when an underwater facility is torn apart. Survivors Norah (Kristen Stewart), Paul (T.J. Miller), Lucien (Vincent Cassel), Emily (Jessica Henwick), and Liam (John Gallagher Jr.) are trying to make a way to the other station to find the evacuation pods. While the earthquake that shook the facility was not an ordinary quake. The drilling station has awakened something on the oceans surface with creatures that are trying to hunt the remaining survivors.

May not be a fresh plot or concept idea. Underwater facility drilling in the oceans surface. Releasing some giant monstrous beast. And an army of humanoid creatures. The concept and plot is still exciting. As a group of survivors are trying to survive and escape from the stations before it collapses onto each other. They will go into claustrophobic settings of crawling into tight spaces. Or walking out onto the ocean surface with big underwater suits. Which the camera pans into their faces making it feel claustrophobia with the darkness out in the deep sea. Which anything can come into their faces at any given moment. I will say the film is intense and thrilling not really scary at all. It does try for a few jump scares with something running towards you. Or popping out in front of the screen.

The cast ensemble was good. Kristen Stewart's performance is good playing Norah, a character that is struggling on leaving people behind in life and death situations. Stewart is coming along way with her acting. And she worked great in delivering the role. The music score by Marco Beltrami and Brandon Roberts worked well delivering an edgy sci fi horror movie tone. Director William Eubank did a good job in creating a sci fi horror film. The movie begins with action and never stops for a breath until the credits roll. The first half is about characters trying to survive the wreckage. While the other half is the people getting killed off by a creature which barely shows. And they are trying to survive and escape.

I will say my one issue with the movie is the quick editing cuts when the creatures are attacking them. The lighting is dark as it is cause they are out on the sea floor. It is a lot of fast editing cuts and shaky camera movements which can make it a little confusing. Sure, it was probably done to create the intensity direction on what is going on.

Overall, Underwater is a pretty fair film. It could be a lot worse. It turns out to be a worthy sci fi horror film that is worth watching if your into those kind of movies. It is fast paced with action, has a good cast ensemble, and puts you onto the edge of your seat..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

It'sThe term "Aliens clone" or "rip-off" gets thrown around so much it's kind of lost all meaning. Yet, I don't think it would be a hyperbole to say that Underwater bears more than a passing resemblance to the legendary sci-fi franchise. It's more Ridley Scott than James Cameron though, with the deep sea drill the characters inhabit calling to mind the Nostromo over Hadley's Hope.

The set design is actually the movie's greatest strength. You can tell a lot of work and care went into the little details, be they scattered mementos or a personal touch that a diver added to their scuba gear, to make the environments feel lived-in and therefore believable. You can see the evidence of the life that once filled the facility before things went wrong which leads to a very haunting, solemn atmosphere and an ever-present feeling of loss that weighs on the survivors.

It all ends up being somewhat squandered though as the film falls prey to the modern day cinema trapping of trying to make everything funny. I realize a little bit of humor can go a long way in a serious tale, but here we have a full-fledged comedian in T.J. Miller who is always ready with a sarcastic remark or amusing comment no matter what's going on, which constantly takes away from the gravity of the situation and severely limits the fear factor. Even as someone with thalassophobia, megalohydrothalassophobia, ichthyophobia, and countless other oceanic phobias there was never a moment that sent so much as a shiver up my spine, which is a letdown because on paper this should have been a pure nightmare for me.

The biggest disappointment however is the handling, or mishandling rather, of the Lovecraftian elements. Stripped of any traces of cosmic horror, Cthulhu and The Deep Ones have been turned into generic feeling, albeit cool looking movie monsters, which has to be some kind of sin. I searched for any sign that something deeper was going on with these creatures to no avail. A shame because that really could have added something special to the story.

All that aside, you can tell everyone involved really poured their hearts and souls into making this because they truly believed in the vision for the film, flawed though it may be. So while it's never as satisfying as it could have been, it is still a solid, charming creature feature with incredible visuals (the diving suits are dope) that I wouldn't mind watching again if someone were to put it on or I needed some background noise.

This movie is surprisingly good. Maybe not very original but it’s really well made and entertain. If you’re someone that wants to go to movies to have a good time, it’s the perfect movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Any positive reviews for this movie are paid for. Unlikeable characters sloshing around speaking unintelligible drivel in complete darkness. To call it garbage would be unfair to actual garbage.

Kristen Stewart which again didn’t disappointed and maintained the same expressiveness as a wooden board as all of her acting roles before, tried to mimic Sigourney Weaver‘s style and performance from Alien and of course failed at the very best. This is a movie to watch when you’ve finished all the available options including Adam Sandler’s pseudo-comedies. Apart from Vincent Cassel, the next actor that really made an impression was the underwater monster. It is what it is but by far not a great movie or cast, the only thing that saved this movie not to be closed after 15 minutes of play was the VFX, not spectacular but acceptable. Expand

While this sci-fi survival film isn't a masterpiece like alien, I found it to be an average action movie.

In stead of the normally vacant look she usually sports in most movies she was able to add a scowl to her certified looks however it adds nothing to her acting. I feel like they phoned in the CGI they may have been like it is ok that it doesn't look that it is underwater it should be a bit grainy and amateur looking. I do feel the premise of the movie is a good one just not to strongly acted or executed in this film. Expand

Not a bad cast, but the main character in Kristen Stewart is a modern agenda no more. The very structure of the plot is as primitive as possible, there is absolutely no suspense. After all, you know that the main character is strong and independent and nothing can happen to her, which cannot be said about weak and weak men who die one after another. And you also need to make an ending with self-sacrifice. Underwater passing film, on which you should not waste your free time. Want a good movie in a similar entourage? Watch The Abyss from Cameron. If one stays on the surface, it's a such superficial film that it would deserve a specific Oscar for the most extreme derivativity, but if one also analyzes its deeper aspect regardless of the intentions of director Eubank, then the historically unprecedented pressure, the monstrous problems encountered at an abysmal level, the implosive events ("horror pleni") are remarkable resonances of what today's art, culture and civilization are forced to face.

Really fun film to watch! Well-made setting, decent script and acting. Love the twist halfway through as well as a few enjoyable unpredictable plot lines.
