Absurd doesn't have to be awfully stupid. This is the typical 2020's stupid movie written and directed by untalented woke people, that are on a mission to destroy everything that was created before them to feel better about themselves.

The source material has already established a massive fan base, and the story is already written. It's so simple. You have to be a extremely bad writer/director/producer to make something so great so bad. It's also extremely unethical to take someone's life's work and change the source material with such disrespect. Then, just to make everything so much worse, you add on top of that fan baiting. Fan Baiting is done on purpose to not only stir up controversy for publicity but also serves as a barrier to real criticism and ensures that the show will succeed because if anyone has a different opinion, they will just be labeled as a "racist/sexist/transphobe/etc." and their opinion is ignored. It's a method to make everyone think you're virtuous when really you're just a horrible person spreading hate with anyone who has a different opinion than your own. You act like you're fighting fascism by spreading and using fascism. It's hypocrisy in action.… Expand

Who would've thought that the only MCU character (so far) to get 4 solo films would be Thor? The first Thor movie was an okay introduction and the second one was quite bland. In came Taika Waititi with Thor Ragnarok (2017), who made Thor aWho would've thought that the only MCU character (so far) to get 4 solo films would be Thor? The first Thor movie was an okay introduction and the second one was quite bland. In came Taika Waititi with Thor Ragnarok (2017), who made Thor a charismatic and fun character. Thor Ragnarok was no doubt one of the funniest and most enjoyable movies in the Thor franchise so far. It was no wonder that I was looking forward to Thor Love and Thunder when it was revealed Taika was returning as director. So did Thor: Love and Thunder deliver more fun or was this a big thundering step backwards?

Firstly, Christian Bale was phenomenal as Gorr, the antagonist, in this film. He delivered an amazingly unsettling performance that made him incredibly creepy. He also delivers on the sorrowful moments as well that make him very sympathetic. Amazingly, he can be both frightening and yet kind of root for him. Natalie Portman finally returns to the Thor franchise as Jane Foster after being absent in Ragnarok. Her return is very "mighty" as she isn't just a doctor that is around but now a hero in her own right. It was great seeing her return and it's great to see that the chemistry between her and Thor (Chris) is still there. She has her struggles to deal with it and Natalie does an outstanding job of conveying the pain that she is going through. Chris and Tessa return as Thor and Valkyrie respectively and they are still great. Taika is still fun as the rock person Korg. Russell Crowe is pretty enjoyable to watch as Zeus as well. The whole cast did a great job in their performance.

I also like the themes that are explored in the film. The exploration of love is a running arc for Thor throughout and I liked seeing him try to find "himself". There is also the theme of death in both Gorr and Jane's arc. It is handled wonderfully in both and I liked the resolution to it all as well. Legendary composer, Michael Giacchino, gives a colourful and bombastic score that works well for the movie. He also incorporates some great use of songs, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, such as "Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses that just mesh well in the film. There are some pretty enjoyable action sequences but the most memorable is in the second act. There is a fight scene in the shadow realm that is just visually oozing with style.

Unfortunately, the comedy in this movie does not work. I just found the comedy in this movie to not be that funny. Ragnarok had some laugh-out-loud moments but Love and Thunder just never get those types of moments. Additionally, a lot of the humour comes from Thor being an idiot. In Ragnarok, he was a lot more comedic but he had an arc and an important decision near the end. Here he is just a comedic idiot throughout and he never gets that sort of big decision as he did in Ragnarok. He does have an arc but it's very weak. It's genuinely a shame that the titular character has been reduced to a joke in his film. On that note, the comedy isn't as prevalent as it was in Ragnarok. Ragnarok was a comedy throughout with some strong serious moments sprinkled in. Love and Thunder mesh half a comedy and half serious and this tonal clash hurt the movie. The serious moments are when the movie is at its best but then a dumb gag happens and damages the moment.

Christian Bale is the standout in this film but his character Gorr is barely even in the film. There is a whole middle act where he just isn't even there. He is also called the God butcherer but we don't even see him on screen actually butchering a god which is such a shame. Gorr needed more screen time to flesh out his character and show why he is a threat to the gods. They also don't show why Gorr killing gods is bad. There is one scene implying negative consequences but we don't see it either. This creates a problem where it feels like there isn't much at stake in the film even though there is supposed to be. The film just doesn't have much weight to it. In Ragnarok, Odin's death was meaningful, the brother's conversation was meaningful, Valkyrie's decision to help was meaningful, Thor embracing the God of Thunder was meaningful, and Thor letting Asgard blow up was meaningful. Love and Thunder just lacks a lot of these apart from one thing at the end that isn't even Thor. Overall, Love and Thunder is pretty disappointing. I expected something that was like Ragnarok but instead got something that felt like an attempt at Ragnarok. The comedy wasn't as funny this time and there are a lot more serious moments this time that is great but makes the comedy feel more jarring as it interrupts the moment. However, it is not downright terrible as there is enjoyment to be had here. It's just not a great Thor movie and definitely not as good as its predecessor. It's just okay and after over 20 MCU movies, okay just isn't good enough.… Expand

Marvèle tente donc de s’auto-parodier en somme… et c’est Thor qui en fait les frais et paye les pots cassés ! presque tout le temps à côté de la plaque, cette comédie est une fumisterie, une bouffonnerie hystérique avec un agenda wokiste de diversité forcée (une valkyrie… noire ?!… et tous ces enfants noirs et ces familles noires à… Asgard ?!…).

On a aussi de temps à autre de la vraie guimauve à deux dollars dedans, d’autant plus ridicule dans cette farce quasi-ininterrompue qu’elle sonne doublement faux au milieu de la connerie ambiante et omniprésente ! Finalement, malgré quelques bonnes idées au début, le film ne parvient pas à maintenir le rythme et à se tourner en dérision sans avoir l’air… complètement con. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Each new film Marvel rely solely on the actors performances when the script is awful. This unsecure Thor weights too heavy on Chris Hemsworth to the point you can't take him seriously when he acts or says something with wisdom. Killing Zeus (to later on you know he is alive) in that weak scene really throws the script out of the window. Thor equals Gorr by killing a god after not getting their help. Taika even goes in a gag of "killing" Korg to "justify" Thor's rage in mortaly wound Zeus. Jane Foster is not bad but the whole cancer drama its damaged by the script and the occasional "Im not lady" BS or Valkirie is a "king" stuff. I'm not even gonna mention the whole kids kidnapping and getting powers later on, that sh.. talks for itself. Despite the good Ragnarok film by Taika W. this one is of the worst Thor's film.… Expand

Oh. My. F#%$%ing. Thunder God...

After reading the initial reviews, where some had painted it better than Ragnarok (which I loved), I was expecting to be thoroughly entertained: I love Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of the character; SameOh. My. F#%$%ing. Thunder God...

After reading the initial reviews, where some had painted it better than Ragnarok (which I loved), I was expecting to be thoroughly entertained: I love Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of the character; Same director as Ragnarok; Familiar, likable returning characters; What could go wrong? Honestly? Everything. It was smarmy. Totally and undefendably overconfident. Characters were not funny OR likable. By the time I was 30 minutes in, I couldn't take any more. I gave up. You couldn't pay me a year's salary to finish watching it. The banter between Thor and Star-Lord –normally nothing short of sheer comic joy – was cringeworthy. I found absolutely no redeeming qualities in this trash. Maybe it gets better. It couldn't get any worse!… Expand

Gorr was no butcher, but the writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson certainly is. It seems co-writer and director Taika Waititi was unable to damage control her awful writing sufficiently.

It takes a special kind of inept to manage to make an encounter with a cosmic entity feel completely unremarkable. Gorr felt like he had no weight. Zeus was a joke. A pair of celestials just hanging out? The only silver lining I can glean from this is the hope that this was a career destroying blunder so that we may be spared further butchery.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot was generic. The villain was just some angry dude with a sword that wanted to kill Gods for no reason except he was mad at them. Jane suddenly has Thor's powers and they fight bad guys like a power couple in a rom-com...BARF! But she has cancer, but the hammer is keeping her alive until she dies in his arms (rom-com) BARF! The Zeus scene looked like it shoe-horned in as a filler. All they could do was make crude jokes and show Thor's butt. They apparently ran out of ideas at that point. Then they faced the villain...OH No...a TRAP! Seriously, who DIDN'T see that coming? Good guys fight bad guys. Girl dies in arms of good guy.

The movie looks like it belongs on the Hallmark channel. It isn't worth the $10 and $50 worth of snacks you pay for a good movie.… Expand

I didn't like it. The story, the character dev, none of it. No idea why everyone thought Thor being weird creepy and flirty with his old Hammer and current weapon was a good idea, **** was painful everytime.

It was a very mediocre film. Watched it once, never gonna watch it again. It goes too fast, no deep storytelling. It just reflects the state of the MCU. I can't believe I have wasted so much time in this phase of the MCU. It's almost like the writers want to emphasize how thor is an asshat, selfish and jealous man while Jane Foster, a WOMAN, is superior, selfless, strong, and dutiful.
They were able to make Thor, THE GOD OF LIGHTNING look pathetic. This is such a scummy way to keep your other characters on a pedestal. Jane Foster's character could have been so much better if only it wasn't built upon the fall of Thor's character. MCU keeps on alienating me, as a viewer watching it from my early childhood. I am all for strong female characters, but that's the key. 'Characters', not just 'I look more competent because men are incompetent. Taika Waititi said he wanted to make a movie to piss off fans and he really did. He could have used Jim Carrey instead of Chris Hemsworth since the film is full of Dumb & Dumber-level jokes (including grimaces).

The last scene worthy of Thor was in Infinity War.
Marvel has become complacent with the huge success of pre-End Game movies and has started to deliver any **** as audiences watch by osmosis simply wanting to be inside the next amazing cycle.… Expand

He has this look on his face like he had a traumatic brain injury that was never diagnosed. The plot is ok. I wanted to wait to write this until I saw it again on Disney +. I couldn't even make it half way through before I turned it off. Makes me so angry to wait 3+ years for this to come out and get whatever the hell this was. In fact, the good things make the bad ones worse and there are a lot of bad scenes.

The main problem is, at it's core Thor Love & Thunder is a very serious movie with some interesting, adult topics and a really great villain on top. Yet the movie decides to be a caricature of itself, constantly ridiculing itself and trying so hard be funny, you'll grind your teeth.

From a technical perspective the movie looks really bad and plain wrong. There are beautiful scenes, but most of the time you think you are watching a game lifestream. All in all, don't watch, or prepare to be disgusted.… Expand

Everything else in this film is dribble. Thor murders gods in their home so he can stop someone else from killing gods. Thor literally uses child soldiers to fight the final boss. And cancer is treated like a joke, a shallow plot device.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Upon a second rewatch, my opinion of Thor: Love and Thunder has really plummeted. I'm not a fan of how this movie turns EVERYTHING into a joke. The main subjects of this movie are very serious, an angry mortal on a mission to kill all of the gods and Thor's mortal love dying of cancer. They still manage to turn all of this into a joke. Seriously, this movie can't go 1 minute without one and most of them fall flat. Everything is loud; from Thor's new armor, to the screaming goats, to the over-the-top villain. What's worse is there are few big directions the movie good have gone that would have made it amazing.
Visiting Omnipotence to get an army of gods to fight Gorr? That's a better movie than what we got.
Gorr kidnaps a bunch of children and Thor gives them all his power which is portayed to laughable affect. Now imagine if that was a group of regular Asgard adults; we could have a second generation pantheon of Norse gods and could see the likes of Balder, Hermod, Angela, Tyr, etc.
Please stop with the comedies, Marvel, and give us some adult serious story lines for a change.
The choice to using 3 Guns and Roses songs multiple times through out the movie is too much GNR. If you don't like gnr I guess your are boned.
Korg is ok in small doses but terrible as a narrator. I cannot take anything he is narrating seriously, but then again this whole movie doesn't take itself seriously.… Expand

This film felt more like a bad rom-com fanfiction rather than a quality, A-List Marvel film. Taiki takes characters with complex, deep arcs throughout the MCU timeline and treats them as nothing more than a laughingstock. This film revolves around the love of Thor's life slowly killing herself just to be with him one last time all while being hunted by a man who wants to kill Gods out of revenge for his dead daughter. The film's plot is incredibly dark and sad, yet we're expected to laugh at it. The opportunity for deep, developing moments for the characters and the villain in this story are thrown away for cheap gags.

The Guardians, Valkyrie, and Korg are completely useless to the storyline that it begs the question of whether they should even be in the film at all. Not only are they useless- the writers make them look completely pathetic and laughable as well. While the whole story is all about Thor and Jane, Taiki completely wasted the other characters and hurt their overall reputation and development. He turned them into characters they were never meant to be.

Taiki failed with this film. He does not manage to hold up to the bar that Ragnarok set whatsoever. There is no divide between serious plot progression and comedy and the writers show a complete lack of respect for the characters and their arcs. While there are some genuinely funny moments and entertaining scenes, the lack of effort put into the characters and their development is inexcusable.… Expand

How do you make Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson and others look really bad on the silver screen? Simple, just employ Taika Waititi to direct another Thor movie. He really must have lucked out on Thor: Ragnarok, as this time around, his direction gives us a movie that falls flat from the opening scene and then manages to just about limp along, right till the very end, embarrassing all involved along the way.

As the credits rolled, my wife asked "did a five year old write this one?" I understood where she was coming from, but I believe five year olds have far superior imaginations to the creative team involved here. Bottom line, Thor: L&T is just a really bad movie, period! As the curtains close, it states, "Thor will return"... let's hope if that's the case, that Marvel has the good sense next time to go with another director.

More garbage in a long line of garbage following End Game. It’s a damn shame what the MCU and Star Wars franchises have behind all due to a way off base fringe political ideology.

Marvel just needs to give up already. Their films have disgustingly saturated the modern-day market, and this is easily among the worst.
