The Out-laws was funny and cute. Being a Happy Madison film I knew it would be, but the ensemble cast made it that much better. It's a family comedy with a dark undertone and the criminal elements make for a hilarious and entertaining ride.

He plays a bank manager who's about the get married. The weekend of their wedding, the bride's parents show up (Pierce Brosnan & Ellen Barkin). Meanwhile, his bank gets robbed and he's convinced it was them. The premise promises fun interactions and it delivers. Not only is Devine continuously amusing, but he's surrounded by other enjoyable characters (Brosnan is relishing being a gruff guy). Making it even more enjoyable is the smart script and Tyler Spindel's direction, esp. his way with physical bits. There's nothing new about the writing, acting or direction, but it's still a good old-fashioned comedy that's continually funny. Expand

IN A NUTSHELL:

The story is about a straight-laced bank manager who is going to marry the love of his life. When his bank is held up by infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week, he believes his future in-laws, who just arrived in town, are the infamous Out-laws.
The film was directed by Tyler Spindel. Writing credits go to Ben Zazove and Evan Turner.

THINGS I LIKED:

The fun cast does a great job and includes Adam Devine, Pierce Brosnan, Ellen Barkin, Nina Dobrev, Michael Rooker, Julie Hagerty, Lil Rel Howery, Richard Kind, Poorna Jagannathan, Lauren Lapkus, Dean Winters, Betsy Sodaro, (I loved her in "Ghosts", Jackie Sandler, and more!
The intro during the rolling credits at the beginning of the movie was pretty cute! It showed the wedding seating chart made of action figures and other figurines.
Ellen Barkin's character mentions that Adam Devine's character looks like James Bond #5. Pierce Brosnan was actually the 5th James Bond actor!
If you enjoy over-the-top acting and comedy, you'll get a kick out of this movie.
I loved the running gag of the employee always being locked in the vault.
Lots of spoken and visual humor. .should I say, "attempts at humor"? (Not all of it lands.)
Keep watching during the rolling credits at the end for another funny scene.
Fun soundtrack.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:

So much of what's supposed to be funny is really raunchy and crude.
We have to watch someone throw up. Many times. Bleh.
It's extremely goofy.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

Lots of profanity, crude conversations, and F-bombs
Crude and unnecessary talk of genitalia
People get shot and we see blood.
Lots of weapons of various kinds, as well as hand-to-hand combat
Destruction
Masked people rob a bank.
An unmarried couple sleeps and lives together.
A man kisses another man.

Ok, it's not Andrew Bergman's masterful movie, The In-laws, but I don't know why it's been crucified. I liked it!

The plot is symbolic and talks about finding the meaning of life in a world oppressed by a fascist and capitalist political system. The acting was one of the best in decades and the actors were clearly devoted to their characters. Stunning production design, cinematography, editing and score, which build a very emotional and empathetic atmosphere. I hope this can get recognized at the Oscars and even win best picture, that would be a relief after the disastrous, woke, recent wins such as The Godfather or Parasite. My second favourite movie of all time, right behind Green Book. Expand
