The Out-laws was funny and cute. Being a Happy Madison film I knew it would be, but the ensemble cast made it that much better. It's a family comedy with a dark undertone and the criminal elements make for a hilarious and entertaining ride.

Meanwhile, his bank gets robbed and he's convinced it was them. The premise promises fun interactions and it delivers. Not only is Devine continuously amusing, but he's surrounded by other enjoyable characters (Brosnan is relishing being a gruff guy). Making it even more enjoyable is the smart script and Tyler Spindel's direction, esp. his way with physical bits. There's nothing new about the writing, acting or direction, but it's still a good old-fashioned comedy that's continually funny. Expand

IN A NUTSHELL:

The story is about a straight-laced bank manager who is going to marry the love of his life. When his bank is held up by infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week, he believes his future in-laws, who just arrived in town, are the infamous Out-laws.
The film was directed by Tyler Spindel. Writing credits go to Ben Zazove and Evan Turner.

THINGS I LIKED:

The fun cast does a great job and includes Adam Devine, Pierce Brosnan, Ellen Barkin, Nina Dobrev, Michael Rooker, Julie Hagerty, Lil Rel Howery, Richard Kind, Poorna Jagannathan, Lauren Lapkus, Dean Winters, Betsy Sodaro, (I loved her in "Ghosts", Jackie Sandler, and more!
The intro during the rolling credits at the beginning of the movie was pretty cute! It showed the wedding seating chart made of action figures and other figurines.
Ellen Barkin's character mentions that Adam Devine's character looks like James Bond #5. Pierce Brosnan was actually the 5th James Bond actor!
If you enjoy over-the-top acting and comedy, you'll get a kick out of this movie.
I loved the running gag of the employee always being locked in the vault.
Lots of spoken and visual humor. .should I say, "attempts at humor"? (Not all of it lands.)
Keep watching during the rolling credits at the end for another funny scene.
Fun soundtrack.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:

So much of what's supposed to be funny is really raunchy and crude.
We have to watch someone throw up. Many times. Bleh.
It's extremely goofy.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

Lots of profanity, crude conversations, and F-bombs
Crude and unnecessary talk of genitalia
People get shot and we see blood.
Lots of weapons of various kinds, as well as hand-to-hand combat
Destruction
Masked people rob a bank.
An unmarried couple sleeps and lives together.
A man kisses another man.

A banal plot, typical characters and primitive humor. Whoever likes this genre is watching. The cast is not bad. The whole movie is sur and it's impossible to take it seriously, but it looks in one breath. And it doesn't cause rejection like the latest Netflix comedies. But The Out-Laws is a terrible action movie, action scenes are staged primitively and do not surprise in any way. For the whole film, which lasts 1.5 hours, there is only one interesting action scene - a chase from the bank on a truck. And it turns out that The Out-Laws is a bad movie as a comedy - the viewer does not laugh often, although the actors try. But also as an action movie, The Out-Laws does not tolerate criticism. A mere film, but against the background of the latest Netflix comedies, at least it does not cause rejection. Expand

Ok, it's not Andrew Bergman's masterful movie, The In-laws, but I don't know why it's been crucified. I liked it!

An utterly pathetic attempt at comedy, with no clear direction and not even a hint of good humor.

The Outlaws

A formulaic but annoyingly funny movie.

Adam Devine leads this action comedy with his usual comedic capabilities of being very expressive, but sometimes it can get too much or over-exaggerated. Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin are adequate in their supporting roles. The best part of the movie was Poorna Jagannathan. I found myself eager for new scenes featuring her. Coming off the heels of Never Have I Ever, this is a new direction for the actress, and this should definitely help her subvert typecasting.

The plot has nothing new to offer, and when the climax was reached, I was expecting more albeit happy that it was over. There's also no chemistry between the leads, Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev, and this hurts the bland plot even more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an avid movie enthusiast, I had high hopes for Out-laws, given its talented cast and intriguing premise. Unfortunately, the movie fell short of expectations, particularly in its comedic elements.

The humor in Out-laws felt forced and failed to deliver the intended laughs. The constant stream of "stupid and silly" jokes became exhausting, making it difficult to fully engage with the story. Adam DeVine's performance, while usually enjoyable, seemed to contribute to the forced humor, ultimately detracting from the overall viewing experience.

While comedy can be subjective, and what may not resonate with one person might delight another, in the case of Out-laws, the humor seemed to miss the mark. It's unfortunate that the potential for clever and genuinely funny moments was overshadowed by an abundance of jokes that simply fell flat.

Despite the disappointment in the humor department, it's important to recognize the film's positive aspects. The talented cast, including the always-charismatic Pierce Brosnan, delivered solid performances, and the premise had potential. The movie showcased production values and visual elements that were commendable.

In the end, Out-laws is a movie that struggles to find its comedic rhythm and cater to a broad audience. While it may still have some redeeming qualities for fans of the cast or specific comedic styles, it's not a film that I would personally recommend for those seeking a consistently funny and engaging experience.

Cool in-laws,old trouble

Having fun in-laws can be something we all wish for,but not in this case for owen
Coming from netflix and director Tyler Spindel
Who worked on other comedy projects like "you don't mess with the zohan (2008)"
And starring Nina Dobrev with some wild ink tattos, typecasted Adam devine ,Ellen Barkin from "animal kingdom" and the old 007 agent Pierce Brosnan showing up as a stylish father in-law

Though the production seems decent like  all of netflix films but the story  doesn't keep up with it and barely keeps you up during it's 100 minutes run,as it follows Owen(adam devine) and Parker(nina dobrev) marriage plan for a great weekend and wedding which goes sideways and bombastic when parker's folk show up after being away for quite sometime
For vague reasons.

You sink into the weird funny air this comedy family-disaster brings in just the first few minutes as you hear adam devine's rusty singing abilities as he fits in his role as a plain devoted guy with no expertise at holding a gun and nina's simple superficial character bouncing around the thieves in Disguise Lilly(barkin) and billy(brosnan) edgy and reckless attitude.
And like every other mediocre flick like this we need a villain with a red killing button Which portrayed by Poorna Jagannathan
And a bleech drinking detective trying to put the lame puzzle together and get his satisfaction.

You're in for some regular punchlines and a few good laughs, but nothing more with this repetitive comedy flick, though it can fill up the background for you while doing something better than watching it.

The plot is symbolic and talks about finding the meaning of life in a world oppressed by a fascist and capitalist political system. The acting was one of the best in decades and the actors were clearly devoted to their characters. Stunning production design, cinematography, editing and score, which build a very emotional and empathetic atmosphere. I hope this can get recognized at the Oscars and even win best picture, that would be a relief after the disastrous, woke, recent wins such as The Godfather or Parasite. My second favourite movie of all time, right behind Green Book. Expand
