A scary movie, some plot flaws but it was fun. I was pleased with the movie, it had a lot to live up to considering it is the prequel to a Great Horror movie franchise.

I wanted to leave the theater to get popcorn, but wanted to wait until things slowed down. They never did! The action takes place in an old convent in romania that has been pretty much deserted for a long time. A new nun and a priest are sent there to find out what has been going on. A young nun has hung herself and they want to find out why. Things get creepy right away. I thought this was a really good movie and think the pace was right on. Expand

You go in and sit down, not expecting 'The Conjuring', but hoping for something in that vein, a tasty treat that won't feel like the first time, but might sate that ever-prolonged hunger for good horror. Its an arduous hunt, and the perils around Moviepass and skyrocketing ticket prices notwithstanding, this one might just do it for you. Its not a great slow-burn. The pacing gives an impression of a 2.5 hour screenplay cut down to an abridged runtime. You'll have to run with character archetypes because the exposition is wanting. As any fan of horror knows, sometimes you have to play the build-up in your head, and I assume that's a little of what they've been trying to do, thrusting that terrifying 'nun' into the previous titles. As a fixture, the image doesn't lose much of its horrifying quality, even after being interspersed through two films already. Other than that, this film doesn't much resemble its predecessors.

I've seen the director's previous work, and thankfully this film doesn't resemble it much either. I found the set dec and effects pretty good, even compelling in moments. While's there's no brilliant stylistic element that dominates the film and sculpts its atmosphere, neither is there a consistent foible. We spend nearly the entire film in creepy and 'unsafe' environs, and a weaker film would fall prey to normalization of that space. 'The Nun' somehow keeps it fresh...and that's precisely a reason to go and see it.

All in all, it's close to hitting the mark in all the right ways, but don't expect the characters nor the story to fully engage. If you go in with as low-expectations as I did, and keep in mind that I did go in (I would have even put in the $13.50 had it come to it), you will come out pleasantly surprised and perhaps a little refreshed. I should add that this is a fertile premise within the horror genre, at least to my eager eyes, and I've always been a sucker for the themes explored in 'The Exorcist'. This one delves into religious subject matter about as much as any horror film I've ever seen.

The Nun is a movie with a mixture of strong highs and disappointing lows. Majority of the movie leans towards strong highs, with some truly incredible visuals, a good handful of horrifying scares, and great atmosphere.
Where the movie falters is an inconsistent tone at times, some weirdly cheap scenes, and an out-of-place character by the name of "Frenchie", who tends to distract from the movie's better moments.
Still, this is a surprisingly quality movie with plenty of genuinely freaky and memorable moments that left me nervous and satisfied.

Good movie, but not at the levels of the first two the conjuring, overall it's a good spin-off, more than enjoyable.

The best bad horror movie ever.

The Nun is absolutely NUTS. A return to the '80s style of horror where literally anything could happen. It still falls into a lot of modern trappings such as idiotic characters and a lot of jump scares, but it's hard to not have fun with these aspects too. The writing makes absolutely no sense. Not just in the context of the movie itself, but in the larger Conjuring universe as well. So many plot holes and continuity errors. It's all just an excuse to let the madness unfold. There are zombie nuns and Taissa Farmiga spits the blood of Jesus Christ into a demon's face. All of it is done with a mostly straight face too. There is certainly a sense of humor to be found here, one that is both intentional and the result of some cheesy writing, but I appreciated how this was a genuine effort to try and scare people.

You will find some initial frustration of the eye rolling variety when you see the characters make dumb decisions like following a demon into another incredibly obvious trap for the umpteenth time (Demián Bichir plays the dumbest priest ever), but with thrilling jolts and more crazy, reality-bending insanity waiting for you around every corner it's easy to get caught up in the movie's rambunctious energy. I once thought that the MonsterVerse was the only cinematic universe outside of the MCU that looked like it was going to be ay good. After watching this I think I'm going to have to reconsider. Because sans the first Annabelle, The Conjuring Universe is looking pretty darn good. You simply have not lived until you've watched The Nun.

Not bad, but could have been better. Still gives the scares we want and makes a strong enough chapter to be in the series. But it's definitely rushed in it's 95 minutes. Still gives what I came for =)

The Conjuring universe manages to pull off another fun film.

Like the other films in the series, this movie feels like walking through a haunted house. The movies have always done a wonderful job of sets and settings. Here we have a creepy Bavarian mansion turned convent out in the middle of the forest. Its an over-the-top Hollywood monstrosity and it looks great. Admittedly, The Nun doesn't have quite the scare factor of The Conjurings or Annabelle; Creation. The scares are more direct, lacking some of the more thought-out or background ambien scenes of the others. Now, this is just compared to the rest of the series. The movie is still plenty spooky with solid visuals and cinematography.

The plots and characters are generally interesting, but the second act is a little slow as the characters potter around the convent looking for clues. Things pick up tremendously for the big finale. Although the setting is austere, there are some pretty funny lines in the script, but wisely not enough to ruin the tone.

Don't expect this to be the best of the Conjuring movies and I think you will enjoy yourself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Underrated with Fake One or Two Line "Reviews"

In 1952, in Romania, a nun hangs herself to escape from an evil force. When the peasant Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet) finds her body, the Vatican sends the priest Burke (Demián Bichir) and the novice Irene (Taissa Farmiga) to the abbey to investigate the case. They team-up with Frenchie and soon Frenchie and Burke are is attacked by a demon. Irene learns that Burke is tormented for killing a boy in an exorcism. On the next morning, Irene is accepted in the abbey and learns that there is a gate to hell in the catacombs. Meanwhile Burke finds that a demon called Valak has unleashed through a breach. Now they have to seal the breach with the blood of Christ to trap Valak inside the gate.

"The Nun" is an underrated horror movie with fake one or two line "reviews" that IMDb has accepted this year, giving credibility zero to this site that was a reference in the past together with Rotten Tomatoes. The cinematography is magnificent, the atmosphere is spooky and the cast has good performances. Unfortunately the plot has a big flaw, since the powerful Valak has many chances to possess Irene as a vessel to leave the abbey but lures her many times instead. My vote is seven.

The Nun is directed by Corin Hardy, written by Gary Dauberman and starring Taissa Farmiga, Bonnie Aarons, Demián Bichir and Jonas Bloquet.

Story by James Wan and Gary Dauberman, and it's about The Nun that we saw in The Conjuring 2, this one is about what created and made The Nun. It's about priest with a haunted past, goes with a novice to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.

Okay, this movie was AWESOME! Not as awesome as The Conjuring 2, but it's definitely a decent horror movie and one of the best horror movies of all the time!

I actually saw this movie from a different point of view, people said that this movie was full of horror-pranks scenes, but they weren't pranks -at least for me- she was trying to make them go away, by trying to kill Father Burke, and scaring Sister Irene. This how I actually saw the horror scenes, I found story in them too actually!

I actually went to see this movie unexcited, because of its ratings, and I was just trying to find any mistake in it, but I found none. That actually impressed me in every way, everything in this movie was just amazing, the horror scenes terrified me, maybe not that much I was expecting, but it worked with me in so many ways, the story too was very good, and performances.. oh, the performances were talented in every single possible way especially Taissa Farmiga, she's the BEST!

I can talk about this movie for years, it's full of awesomeness! And as I said this is because I have another opinion that I think that it's right, and I hope everyone to see it as I do.

This movie is underrated and underestimated very much, and it's unfair, I will always be waiting for the day that everyone said that this movie isn't good to say "Hear us out, we've been wrong about The Nun!".

One more thing people said about this movie, they said that it's noisy -they mean the soundtrack- and when I watched it I found it amazing and I bought the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack the following day. It was very very good, especially when The Nun shows up, it made her great, dark and scary, beside the OST was incredible in every single way!

I loved everything about The Nun, it's my second favorite horror movie of all the time, it comes after The Conjuring 2.. this franchise is keeping impressing me in every movie they make.. and now it's the best horror franchise of all the time and one of the best franchises at all! I think that I'm the biggest fan ever of this movie and the entire franchise!

I'm gonna give The Nun an A+.

Thank you, guys for reading my review and I wish to get your comments about my reviews to get better.
