How sad, this is young adult literature. How sad, kids have to shell out fifty bucks to see four movies that should be one—if that. And what’s all the hoopla of a strong female character. And what’s all the hoopla of a strong female character. Ever hear of the Wizard of Oz published in 1900. A divergent Dorothy leads a factious band of quirky characters on a quest for courage - brains - heart and appreciation of family - in a faraway land. Wait sounds like Veronica Roth did a blurred lines rip off ! Insurgent is 115 minutes of exploding pixels, dark dreams, and inept soldiers in armored tanks unable to chase down three teens on foot - escaping without a scratch. Toto had more personality then any actor in this fiasco. Then everyone runs to the door of the new world as I ran to the exit. To be continued. How sad! Expand

Insurgent is by far the worst movie I've seen this year. Leave it to Hollywood to completely screw up book-to-movie renditions. Not only was it completely inaccurate, but they utterly destroyed the characters and their relationships. Sure, IInsurgent is by far the worst movie I've seen this year. Leave it to Hollywood to completely screw up book-to-movie renditions. Not only was it completely inaccurate, but they utterly destroyed the characters and their relationships. Sure, I expected them to include a bunch of lovey-dovey romantic bull**** that wasn't ever in existence, but c'mon this is uncalled for! The primary sin was crossing the main theme of the series, female agency. In this blasphemy, Tris was forced to be rescued multiple times and to rely on Four in all decisions. Whereas in the book, she was fighting her own battles, on her own, and constantly going against Four. Furthermore, every major (plot point) thought and decision Tobias has in the movie was originally Tris' in the book. Evelyn is completely ignored-and misrepresented-until Janine says her name at the end; Janine is killed in the movie when she is an active character in the third book. Every major woman in the movie was downplayed and their power/agency was handed over to the male characters. You've outdone yourself Hollywood; you owe a serious apology to Victoria Roth!
Note: this is not an exhaustive list of sins

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first movie was decent, but maybe because it was more preoccupied with showing us the characteristics of each faction and how society works in the city. The plot as far as we knew it was decent in quality and it was supposed to stay that way or at least get better. Some fighting scenes here and there, new characters, possibly subplots and watching how each major character would develop in a more significant way; that was I was hoping for Insurgent, at least it was what I expected. But, as always, I was disappointed by the big budget teenage oriented excuse of a movie.
First big disappointment, the brooding fighting machine of a boyfriend does just that, he somehow always wins hand-to-hand combat.....which is predictable and boring. What's boring even more is the fact that besides playing "Rambo" he is just another love-sick promising leader who does nothing his character promises except filling the screen with tattoos and staring lovingly into Shailene Woodley's eyes .....thrilling.
Tris on the other hand kind of suffers the same thing. Except, the director decides that in order to convince the audience that she is changing and toughening up, they film a scene with her cutting her hair short, almost perfectly (if I tried that alone in the mirror I would look like a fought a monkey, and it won)...... mad hairdresser skills. She keeps whining about guilt and fear through the whole movie, except the scenes with the staring and loving thing. I would imagine that after actually killing people she would be a little more toughened up mentally/emotionally etc; but missing mommy is a priority in this case, I guess.
People keep shifting alliances, nobody is willing to think it through, make a plan, use the brain...something. They mostly fight for power in such simplistic ways it is OVERDONE. Also, apparently Four has a mom who is the leader of Factionless, who are heavily armed and want revenge, who they help in overthrowing the Erudite queen....which was the only decent character (goddammit Kate Winslet does not deserve this **** role).
At the end, there is life outside the wall (duh!...you've seen birds, obviously there is fresh water and other animals, ergo possibly humans), there is a shift in power, from one crazy **** to another and Divergents are the solution not the problem according to a 200 year old lady in a message who practically admitted the whole city was an experiment and the people are just lab rats. Also, the Erudite "dictator on heels" dies before anybody asks the question: if Divergents are the solution that means non-divergents are the problem, then where the **** does that puts us lab rats?
Intelligent life-form outside the wall and no contact? I smell an equally **** movie in the future.
And yes, it was that bad, 2 whole hours of bad....but the soundtrack sounds cool, got new songs for my ipod. :D
