Boring, uncreative and mind numbing.

Girl movie with some action and ridicolous clichè's.

Not even worth to torrent or stream, its that bad of a film.

You'll soon see this at the 6 for 1 dvd for 10 bucks stand at the gas station.

Not only Insurgent is just as stupid, plothole-ridden, inconsistent and boring as Divergent, but it's more of all those things; everything flows in a sequence of coincidences, character development always fails, as characters change dramatically in a matter of seconds, there are absolutely no believable villains nor heroes.

Plus, you might think you're not really into story, you just want to see some action. Fine, but go look elsewhere, as there is very little here, and is so filled with cheap CGI your eyes will hurt afterwards. Besides, all the action is constantly interrupted by the protagonists' fifth-grade romantic discussions. Speaking of that, this entire thing is abismally written: for the length of the film, there is not one dialogue that isn't full of clichés and half-sentences.

Enjoy the slo-mo bit near the end where the parade of Woodley goofy faces is displayed for all the world to see. She works so much better when she's in independent productions, playing real characters, rather than this so-called heroine who is in trouble, needs saving, is saved, is unsure, needs confirmation, is reassured, is told what to do, does the opposite, needs saving. Eventually she comes out as the hero, but we don't quite get to see why, as everything she's done before that leads you to believe she's worthless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first movie was decent, but maybe because it was more preoccupied with showing us the characteristics of each faction and how society works in the city. The plot as far as we knew it was decent in quality and it was supposed to stay that way or at least get better. Some fighting scenes here and there, new characters, possibly subplots and watching how each major character would develop in a more significant way; that was I was hoping for Insurgent, at least it was what I expected. But, as always, I was disappointed by the big budget teenage oriented excuse of a movie.
First big disappointment, the brooding fighting machine of a boyfriend does just that, he somehow always wins hand-to-hand combat.....which is predictable and boring. What's boring even more is the fact that besides playing "Rambo" he is just another love-sick promising leader who does nothing his character promises except filling the screen with tattoos and staring lovingly into Shailene Woodley's eyes .....thrilling.
Tris on the other hand kind of suffers the same thing. Except, the director decides that in order to convince the audience that she is changing and toughening up, they film a scene with her cutting her hair short, almost perfectly (if I tried that alone in the mirror I would look like a fought a monkey, and it won)...... mad hairdresser skills. She keeps whining about guilt and fear through the whole movie, except the scenes with the staring and loving thing. I would imagine that after actually killing people she would be a little more toughened up mentally/emotionally etc; but missing mommy is a priority in this case, I guess.
People keep shifting alliances, nobody is willing to think it through, make a plan, use the brain...something. They mostly fight for power in such simplistic ways it is OVERDONE. Also, apparently Four has a mom who is the leader of Factionless, who are heavily armed and want revenge, who they help in overthrowing the Erudite queen....which was the only decent character (goddammit Kate Winslet does not deserve this **** role).
At the end, there is life outside the wall (duh!...you've seen birds, obviously there is fresh water and other animals, ergo possibly humans), there is a shift in power, from one crazy **** to another and Divergents are the solution not the problem according to a 200 year old lady in a message who practically admitted the whole city was an experiment and the people are just lab rats. Also, the Erudite "dictator on heels" dies before anybody asks the question: if Divergents are the solution that means non-divergents are the problem, then where the **** does that puts us lab rats?
Intelligent life-form outside the wall and no contact? I smell an equally **** movie in the future.
And yes, it was that bad, 2 whole hours of bad....but the soundtrack sounds cool, got new songs for my ipod. :D

One of the most insipid, unintelligent films I've ever seen. Insurgent makes no effort to be coherent or consistent, and suffers from terrible pacing.

The first half of the movie is a rapid fire mash of action scenes, so unbelievable and poorly thought-out that I thought they were all part of a simulation. At one point early in the film, Tris and Four start a brawl with some innocent people, killing many of them, and then Four suddenly establishes they are allies and everyone acts like nothing happened. Only a few days after the first film, Jeanine suddenly has a massive army of ninja-warriors that spray submachine guns one-handed while zip lining between skyscrapers. Somehow Jeanine is cranking out fantastic new anti-divergent technology on a daily basis; if they can engineer and mass-produce mind-control darts and handheld divergent scanners in a matter of days, why were any of the events in the first film necessary?

Characters switch allegiance at a whim, often with no explanation, and no one ever questions them.

The core of the plot is a magic box with a special message from the benevolent founders of the city, that kills anyone who tries to open it. What?!

Utter garbage. Stay away.

Insurgent is by far the worst movie I've seen this year. Leave it to Hollywood to completely screw up book-to-movie renditions. Not only was it completely inaccurate, but they utterly destroyed the characters and their relationships. Sure, IInsurgent is by far the worst movie I've seen this year. Leave it to Hollywood to completely screw up book-to-movie renditions. Not only was it completely inaccurate, but they utterly destroyed the characters and their relationships. Sure, I expected them to include a bunch of lovey-dovey romantic bull**** that wasn't ever in existence, but c'mon this is uncalled for! The primary sin was crossing the main theme of the series, female agency. In this blasphemy, Tris was forced to be rescued multiple times and to rely on Four in all decisions. Whereas in the book, she was fighting her own battles, on her own, and constantly going against Four. Furthermore, every major (plot point) thought and decision Tobias has in the movie was originally Tris' in the book. Evelyn is completely ignored-and misrepresented-until Janine says her name at the end; Janine is killed in the movie when she is an active character in the third book. Every major woman in the movie was downplayed and their power/agency was handed over to the male characters. You've outdone yourself Hollywood; you owe a serious apology to Victoria Roth!
Note: this is not an exhaustive list of sins

And what’s all the hoopla of a strong female character. Ever hear of the Wizard of Oz published in 1900. A divergent Dorothy leads a factious band of quirky characters on a quest for courage - brains - heart and appreciation of family - in a faraway land. Wait sounds like Veronica Roth did a blurred lines rip off ! Insurgent is 115 minutes of exploding pixels, dark dreams, and inept soldiers in armored tanks unable to chase down three teens on foot - escaping without a scratch. Toto had more personality then any actor in this fiasco. Then everyone runs to the door of the new world as I ran to the exit. To be continued. How sad! Expand

But rather than take control of her own destiny (coif-cutting aside) until the end, where even then she can’t just bark an order but instead has to convince Four with, “Just trust me,” she is relegated to playing (essentially) a damsel in distress. Granted, she’s got a mean right hook when she’s given the chance to use it, but that occasional flash of aggressiveness cannot overcome the way her character is so passively drawn. Expand

Video-game special effects, a 47-year-old Naomi Watts playing the mother of 31-year-old Theo James (implying Four's mother was 16 when he was born...? Possible, but the actors appear to be the same age on screen, as Naomi Watts is made up to look extremely young and it is quite distracting), terrible (I REPEAT, TERRIBLE, HORRENDOUS) dialogue that treats the audience like a bunch of mindless idiots (maybe they are), Woodley's constant switching between a strong female lead and a weak, helpless damsel in distress when it is convenient for the plot, the gaping plot holes and unexplained questions, as well as a large amount of obvious errors (for instance, Woodley cutting off her hair with crude scissors while looking in a mirror yet walking away with a hairstyle that would require an electric razor and a professional cosmetologist). It doesn't get much lower than this, folks. Don't even get me started on how this movie and book series was just a cash cow jumping onto the Hunger Games bandwagon to begin with. Don't get me wrong, The Hunger Games is a fantastic trilogy that I believe will go down in history as American literature (I'm dead f*cking serious- it's changed the attitude of the country)- but Veronica Roth saw it as a trend she could jump onto in the world of young adult literature so she could earn some green. Always knew the books were terrible, didn't think it was possible for the movies to be even worse. Ah, but they are. Expand

I guess at the very end Insurgent redeems itself somewhat, and will probably suck me into going to see the next installment, but believe me up till then it was very slow going! I could tell I wasn't the only one in the theatre that was fidgety either. If your expecting the level of entertainment that you do in the Hunger Game series, then you would be sadly mistaken. The special effects are good, but the story and acting was severly lacking. I would suggest holding off-save your money and rent it if you have to watch it. Spend your money wisely and go see something else currently playing. Expand

It's more entertaining than its predecessor but The Divergent Series: Insurgent is nevertheless a needlessly convoluted orgy of unconvincing special effects and underdeveloped and ultimately forgettable side characters.

WOW..that was mind-numbingly BAD! Believe me, I went in with pretty low expectations since I've seen the first installment and knew how bad it could be...but WOW...it surpassed all my expectations (NOT a good thing)...
I mean, the acting was so much worse than the first movie. The writing and dialogues were so bad that it was painful. The characterizations, especially Tris, was so bad that they/she could have been a walking potato for all the difference it would have made to the audience. On second thought, walking potatoes might actually have made the movie slightly interesting.... I just couldn't understand why Tris was so horrible (both in character and acting). This was like Gossip Girl and Reign rolled into one as far as annoying female leads go...Did WB make this movie??
Anyway, enough time wasted already just watching the movie...no need to waste more of my life writing any more of this review... but hey, if excessively crying female leads, with wanna-be bursts of toughness that go nowhere, and non-stop self recriminations are your thing, then you're in for a huge treat!

Really unimpressed with this one. Insurgent is a snooze-fest, so much so, I had to watch it in two separate sittings to get through the film. Dull characters with poor acting by ALL of the characters especially the lead actress. The story is predictable and boring. Many of the scenes feel rushed. It's as if they tried to fit in as much material as possible along with a bunch of mindless action scenes. The result is a bunch of loosely connected scenes where nothing is ever fleshed out or developed. I think this is a perfect example of a book adaptation where you try to throw way too much in and it creates a pretty bad film. However, it's not just the writing, as mentioned above, the performances were exceptionally bad all around.

I would only watch only if you're a big fan of the series. Otherwise, do something else more fun like washing dishes.

The acting was good, but the whole movie was structured so poorly that even the acting had a difficult time to show through. It is totally confusing, boring, doesn't flow well, can't begin to tell the good guys from the bad (although I think that is the point, but it was so bad you just aren't sure) and worst of all for me, some of the scenes where they use the movie's version of "technology" started me into epileptic seizures so I had to put my hands over my eye's once I caught on to the problem. The book(s) were so much better (usually they are), they had great plot lines you could follow, far more emotional stuff that was part of the whole, way too many changes completely from the books. I've seen good books turn into not great movies, but this is barely recognizable to the book. People change, their actions change, they leave out 80% of the book and replace another 30% with something completely different. I would have walked out on the movie even if I hadn't read the books. Having read the books (which were good) made me wonder if they weren't trying to rewrite the books. Expand
