Starts off quite well and with a lot of attention to detail, some clever twists in the story and Gemma Arterton naked. The ending feels disappointing since the build up was so well crafted.

It defies logic how the situation evolves. Holes begin to evolve . It becomes somewhat illogical when for example the kidnappers with all their cunning seem to towards the end just leave their fingerprints all around having at the start taking such careful consideration. (there is one other major illogical scene which i will omit rather than spoil the movie) The movie should have taken its time and do-over some scenes to make it more plausible. Such a great effort but the minor details and illogical scenes cast a heavy shadow over what could have been a great movie. Expand

'The Disappearance of Alice Creed' is without a doubt2 guys kidnap a girl for a ransom and have her tied up to a bed while they make their demands clear to her apparently rich father. Of course things soon get out of hand and yada yada yada. 'The Disappearance of Alice Creed' is without a doubt one of the worst films you could have the misfortune of popping into you DVD player. Not only will you be confronted with some really terrible acting, the writing of this play is so incredibly amateurish, it just beggars belief. Half the time you are listening to two guys talking to each other explaining to the audience what it is they did, how it went down and what they will do next. And the asinine plot twists they randomly inserted have to be seen to be believed. It's almost if no one actually took the time and read the script but started to roll the camera as soon as the crew was assembled and had finished their coffee. Recommended only for a good toe curling. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are several flaws in the script, classical ones, like "Why do you HAVE to find the keys right next to the guy?" or why couldn't the guy hide the bullet until another moment, or even hide the bullet hole in the wall. Moreover, some attempts of the director in creating irony or agony fail - like the catharsis when spitting the bullet out and eating it again. The characters were poorly developed in general: the three of them are freaks, but you cannot care for anyone. Vic is too much of a perv with no smooth side seeable; the girl is spoiled and **** all the time, not losing her humanity in the captive position; and on the top of it, the actor that plays Danny was less expressive (and sleazy) than the character. Besides, wouldn't it be more interesting to make Danny a real weak character that could not even chose who should **** him for life, the guy or the girl? That would've been a great character, but the Danny presented did not show all that going on - it was more of a smartass trying to fool everyone and failing on it. It was a nice opening and at times I wanted to see the plan work, or go entirely wrong, even - the false trails that she would be dead (twice!) were just annoying - perhaps she could have been killed and the thriller would become one of those circumstantial ones. I liked the ending, although a bit predictable. It has a good setup, a nice scheme and interesting twists, but I was a bit frustrated. Expand

brilliant so many twists really kept me wondering what was going to happen next right from the very first scene. Martin Compston is certainly an actor with a bright future.

Minimalist design with only 3 characters and simple sets, but it works perfectly well for the story, which is rich with twists without feeling too contrived, capped with a very satisfying ending. Highly recommended.

A movie that felt like it started off with a nice climax but only to fall short of anything brilliant. One of those movies where you just HAVE to see the ending. Like poker, don't play the hand if you're not down to go all in.

I read the description for the film on a streaming service and had one of the key reveals spoiled for me. Even so, "The Disappearance Of Alice Creed" is still an impressively taut thriller, sparing the audience of the chills and bombast in favor of some good ol' fashioned narrative intrigue. With each twist lopped on to this plot, you're constantly learning more and more about each character and, in turn, the developing irony of the situation at hand. It's really quite effective, especially for a film with only three performers and one or two locations. Gemma Arterton is terrific in this, but the heaviest of props goes to Eddie Marsan, who the average moviegoer may recognize from the many supporting/bit roles he's had in larger films over the years. In this, however, he really gets to unload a bevy of menace, showcasing just how much energy he can exude onscreen when given the chance. A great performance in a truly solid film overall. Expand

It's a shame that the big production companies have forgotten her and aren't calling her to a big international production, like the prince of Persia or Fury of titans, for example. Her recent films have basically been shown in the UK and some parts of Europe. It's a shame, since she's (with all due respect) a badass actress!!!!! Expand
