The attempts of the director and the pair of actors to cope with a film that is conducted only by a scoop of a balloon trip and the ambitions of both protagonists are notorious. On the one hand we have a phenomenal Felicity Jones, who in love with heaven (although traumatized by previous experience) decides to help the scientist interpreted by Eddie Redmayne (not very expressive and giving a somewhat bland interpretation, far from the profile that this actor had been giving in previous films) to predict the weather.

The film does not contextualize necessary in the past of the protagonists and the little narrative that it provides is not enough to drive this trip. Although it is only based on the real history of the aircraft, the film fails to empower enough to clearly justify its existence. It is not a bad film, do not get me wrong, Jones successfully loads with the whole plot and manages that as a spectator we can be astonished enough, so that in some moments we forget the lazy of the script and that there is no great ambition of the director, for a proposal that leaves with the feeling of being something better.

Making fun of Nazi Germany is a double-edged sword, after all it serves as a satire but you also can't forget the horrors that happened back then.
Jojo Rabbit swings between satire and a feel-good story. It manages to work and I don't think it was insulting. Written and directed by Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit is a movie that certainly borrows a lot from Wes Anderson. The opening sequence is more than evident and although that may be considered problematic for some, Waititi manages to emerge gracefully from the evident comparisons, though with its obvious ups and downs.

Another point to emphasize is that you will enter the world of the movie or you will not and personally I think that depends a lot on whether you'll enjoy the movie or not.
There's moments where I couldn't help feeling the film stretches a lot the absurdity, but once again Waititi manages to recover enough the pace so that things don't get out of hand.

While not all jokes land and honestly the movie is never as funny as it thinks it is, passing the bumps, Jojo Rabbit shows the heart of its narrative that is the friendship between Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) and Elsa (Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie), the young Jew girl that her mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding in their home.
This is essential because Jojo being the main character and obviously the narrative driver only knows what he has learned so far, what they instructed him and is that the Jews are vermin therefore his growth as a character and evidently as a person lies in that plot point although obviously that's where the failure of the story lies because at this point that's not something that is no longer known or needs to be learned, perhaps it should be emphasized but not only towards the Jews but towards the whole world in general considering that kids today continue to be feed with that kind of hate.

Jojo Rabbit is a conventional film but it stands out for its style and it's an honest story, as honest as its plot can provide. It's nothing special but personally I had a good time watching it and that is also what cinema is about.

Instead, its Indiana Jones type foolishness eats away huge chunks of what could have been gut tearing historically factual suspense, and replaces it with old fashioned Saturday matinee nonsense - rendering the whole as simply unbelievable. This is a shame as it’s based on some important historical facts that have been treated like mere fictional fodder. What’s left is just another example of Hollywoods PC gender pushing histrionics. The real-life male hero of this actual ballooning duo has been replaced by a fictional, ultra-modern, female ‘role’ model. Laughably ‘modern’ Hollywood! Given all the real-life, deserving women the scientific world has had throughout history; why not make a movie about one of these - instead of adding a fictional one to our recorded history! Some nice mock (CGI) aerial photography attempts to camouflage the obvious manipulative agenda pushing, and if seen on a large screen it will supply enough adrenalin rushes for those with a predisposition toward fear of heights or vertigo. The editing style is another drawback - just when things look like getting exiting in the balloon, we are forced back to ground to be shown how difficult it was, in the lead-up, for this duo to get airborne – these don’t work well because we already know they won their battles - so it just serves to slow the whole thing down. Performances are uniformly good, and of its type, even with all the clichés, it’s a good movie but could have been so much better (and more honest). Expand

It's perhaps a little dull at times but the story and the characters intrigued me even if their only very loosely based on fact. There's some lovely cinematography and the period costumes (where they feature - not all the time) are nice.

Understandably, there's a fair bit of shaky camerawork, which may frustrate you and Eddie's acting is a little cheesy at times but I liked the themes and the sentiment. Amelia Wren seemed a pretty admirable character, as a scientist or women explorer of her time. I like that she's rightfully mentioned and complimented towards the end of the film, although I'd have liked it if more info. about the true story were shown on screen just before the credits.

Suffice to say, it's by no means perfect but its certainly alright.

Totally watchable adventure movie. Some nice special effects. The acting was all a bit OTT at times but wasn't helped by the script. Very average
