If you are going to write a film that is based on real events, then write the events as they happened. As many others have written, there was no Amelia Rennes but another man, Henry Coxwell, in the balloon with James Glaisher.

If you know this before watching the film, then it is simply unwatchable as it completely disrespects Henry by having his feat given to a woman for no other reason than to bend to the insanity that is overwhelming North American and the UK.

Women have accomplished much in history, there is no need to rewrite actual events to artificially pander to them, as I am sure people would rather see actual events where women broke barriers and excelled, and this is as insulting to women in general as it is to the memory of Henry Coxwell.

I was aware of the actual events beforehand, therefore I despised this movie from the get go, but did actually manage to watch it and can ascertain that it is not worth watching, even if you discount the fictional Rennes.

2 stars simply for some of the balloon scenes, that although green screen, looked fairly good.

Not Recommended, and SHAME on all those who gave the go ahead to rewrite history for no reason whatsoever.

I really hate what the feminists are doing to movies to push their agenda. Why do they have to steal adventurous men real lives and replace them with fictional female characters? Why do they have to steal adventurous men real lives and replace them with fictional female characters? This is not fair, this is pretty disturbing and it does no good at all to gender equality. Other than that, the movie is pretty mediocre and boring. Expand

Not historically accurate and credit was taken away from a real person who deserved it...

Predictable characterization from the typecast actors (if you've seen one of their characters, you've basically seen them all). Visual effects were decent, albeit they didn't make the face-palm story any more believable. It was psychological torture to sit through this film (I was held hostage to watch it). Expand

The movie claims to be based on a true story. Yes James Glaisher did do the things that were portrayed in the movie; however, Amelia didn't exist. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another 'Based on a true story' that takes the exploits of two male pioneers of meteorology, who broke records as early explorers of ballooning, but replaces one with a made up female character, and then has the female character do ALL the heroics whilst the actual hero, James Glaisher cowers in the bottom of the balloon!
They even belittle James crawling the Amelia at the end of the film, on two clearly broken legs. But the films all like 'don't worry now, I've got you and you'll be fine!' as Amelia is going to carry him back?!?!
Another classic 2019 film where women are amazing but all men are pointless. Oh yeah that's really balanced. It's about time Hollywood stop banging this ideological drum and started producing films where all sexes and races are treated equally. Sigh!
