This in not one of Nolans best film. But it is still very enjoyable. Lots of action, good action, car chases. In many ways it reminds me more of a Mission impossible film.

Disclaimer: It gets better with a second viewing.

My initial reaction to Tenet was to give it a 7/10, but on a second viewing I bumped it up to an 8/10. It's not Nolan's best work, but it's not his worst either - I'd rank it as probably hisDisclaimer: It gets better with a second viewing.

My initial reaction to Tenet was to give it a 7/10, but on a second viewing I bumped it up to an 8/10. It's not Nolan's best work, but it's not his worst either - I'd rank it as probably his 6th best.

The visuals are amazing and the action is the best Nolan has ever directed. The music fits the scenes well and although not Hans Zimmer is still compelling and powerful. The idea behind the film is - as usual with Nolan - very intriguing and original. But why I refrain from giving this a perfect rating (keep in mind an 8/10 is quite good) is this is not his best written film. The exposition for the first hour or so of the film is rough. It's not entirely clear why what's happening is happening and I wish either it had been cut from the film and streamlined or had been given extra time to fully develop (which was unlikely to happen as convincing a studio to go longer than 2 1/2 hours is nearly impossible, even for Nolan) The characters are also not fleshed out well and the acting is only mediocre, although Kenneth Branagh stands out as the best.

Altogether, a very entertaining film. Imaginative, expansive, and uniquely Nolan. But for a director of such magnitude and reputation, it may disappoint some viewers. 8/10 is hardly a bad film and is in fact a very, very good one. But when perfection is expected, very good can be a letdown sometimes. Is that our fault for having such high expectations? Or Nolan's for having raised the bar so high in the past? Regardless, the second viewing is a superior experience for both understanding the plot and for having reset expectations.… Expand

Tenet is a movie that made me buy a movie ticket.
In times of endlessly rehashed movie concepts, live action remakes (what even is the point of that?), the milking of brands to their breaking point, this movie is a breath of fresh air. ItTenet is a movie that made me buy a movie ticket.
In times of endlessly rehashed movie concepts, live action remakes (what even is the point of that?), the milking of brands to their breaking point, this movie is a breath of fresh air. It combines the concept of inverting objects or even yourself with gorgeous action scenes, the fact that almost none of the characters have actual names didn't even occur to me when the credits rolled. It's not as good as other movies by Christopher Nolan, like Interstellar (my favourite movie of all time), or Inception, but in modern mainstream cinema it's something fresh, I really recommend you to go to the cinema to watch it.

It's long, well filmed and cast and technically very interesting. Definitely something you've never seen before. Watch it knowing nothing and then watch it again to try and figure things out. Can't wait to get a copy and run parts of it backwards.

Great movie, but I think that most of all characters (not 3 main hero and an antogonist) were woven into history normally, they are just being in the story to move the plot - not more or less. Great movie, visuals are fantastic, the sound is amazing. If you dont like the sound in this movie, you either saw it at a terrible cinema or downloaded some crappy copy. Great acting by the bunch, Pattisons best in my eyes.

The plot is complex for sure, a bit hard than both Inception and Interstellar but I like that Nolan keep experimenting with time.… Expand

I think the reason I'm so pissed right now is that this is the type of movie that I really love - and I don't know maybe it is a movie that I would really love - but I still have no idea if I do even after having watched it. Far and away Nolan's most complicated film to date, "Tenet's" plot initially unfurls in a manner you'd expect from a typical Nolan film. Don't even think about sleeping on the second half, though, for when the reversals, twists and complications start coming into play, you'll find your own consciousness moving forwards, backwards, longways and sideways through time in order to catch up with all the ways the rules can change in this thing. Big, bold and begging for repeat viewings, "Tenet" ultimately doesn't rank that high on my all-time list of favorites from the filmmaker in question, but when one is dealing with oeuvre of someone like Christopher Nolan, I guess a statement like that doesn't hold nearly as much weight as it usually does. Indeed, "Tenet" is still great in most of the ways that count.… Expand

Probably Nolan’s most confusing film but I was digging it. Nolan once again knocks it out of the park in the technical category. All the practical effects here are amazing. Especially the plane sequence and the war sequence. I’m genuinelyProbably Nolan’s most confusing film but I was digging it. Nolan once again knocks it out of the park in the technical category. All the practical effects here are amazing. Especially the plane sequence and the war sequence. I’m genuinely impressed and curious about how he was able to do some of this stuff since the movie deals with time inversion. There’s a lot of stuff going forwards and backwards in a scene and I really want to know how Nolan did it. The cinematography is fantastic as always and the score is great. Hans Zimmer is missed here but I think Ludwig Göransson did an excellent job doing his own thing while also throwing in elements of Zimmer in there too. The editing can feel a little bit awkward at points but it’s good for the most part and the sound editing is great. The only issue in the technical category I have is the sound mixing. Unfortunately, Nolan decides to turn the mixing up a little too loud during important scenes and it can be hard to hear what some of the actors are saying. Speaking of actors, almost everyone here does a great job with John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki being standouts. There isn’t a lot of depth to their characters which can mute some of the emotional weight at points but it wasn’t a huge issue for me. The plot is unique and different but definitely is incredibly confusing and will most likely require rewatches to fully comprehend it. If you are a fan of Christopher Nolan or want to see something in theaters, I urge you to check this out.… Expand

The execution is also brilliant, the editing, acting, soundtrack and script were all very well made and the whole plot has a lot of detail which some people will think is pretentious but others will love because it makes this movie even better on a rewatch. The characters are interesting, however at some point you could say there is a bit of a lack of personality. I can see where people are coming from when they say this but i mostly disagree. A common criticism i hear is that there isnt really any back story given for the characters. My counter argument is why should there be? I think that even though we dont know much about the characters and dont know their intentions behind their actions, it doesnt mean we cant root for them. We can see the "the protagonist" played by john david washington is the kind of person who cares a lot for other people from the beginning, and this is a perfectly plausable reason for him going back to save kat and for his determination in completing his mission. Overall tenet is by no means a perfect movie, (the sound mixing at some parts was quite poor) but it is a very unique one with a great concept and execution.… Expand

It's definitely made by Nolan, I love the idea of reversing time and stuffs, to be honest, still don't understand much of it, just very confused and yet quite satisfied, I believe the second watch will be better and definitely worth it.

this is an amazing idea and too bad it is in a 2+ hours movie format
in the beginning almost too rush to lay out the story background and the idea, but then after that it was super intense and too much happened on the screen, and you couldthis is an amazing idea and too bad it is in a 2+ hours movie format

On the other hand, this was my first new movie back in the theaters following the covid19 closures, and it was a Christopher Nolan movie so I was really excited to see this! That led me to in the end feel disappointed (how could anything live up to those expectations).

For the first portion of the film, I found myself thinking, " this is not the movie I anticipated seeing based on the trailer". It felt like a mission impossible movie with different actors. When things changed, it felt like I was being rewarded for hanging in there - and to an extent, the reward was satisfying!

Going into the film thinking it was a spy movie where the spies can at will step backwards in time to stop certain events sounded like a fun concept. The movie itself didn't have the "fun" quality I was anticipating. It was pretty much serious the whole way through. But then I have to remember what other Christopher Nolan movies feel like. They too are pretty serious.

Thinking back on the movie, it was a cool, very intelligent film - a gift to us film goers. Some of the dialogue was hard to track with, but it kept me working to keep up with it, and I felt rewarded in the end. For me it wasn't as good as inception, but it good along those lines. Thank you Mr. Nolan and team for working so hard to give us this cool and unique film going experience!… Expand

The special effects and real-time location shots are some of the best of Nolan's career, James Bond-like and brilliantly photographed in a time sequence format by his cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema, who worked as DP on 2 other Christopher Nolan films, "Dunkirk" and "Interstellar." These are reasons the film should be seen in the cinema, on the big screen, to be truly appreciated. Took 2 points off (8 out-of 10) because, while I understood the concept of TENET, Saving the World and International Espionage, the plot is the most challenging to follow of all Nolan's movies. The film moves so quickly, so much going on, that plot points were missed in this first screening of the movie. In true Nolan fashion, as with some of his other films, TENET will require multiple viewings to discover what was missed and to fully comprehend the story. Fine performances from John David Washington as Protagonist, Robert Pattinson as his past-present-future partner Neil, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh who makes a great villain, and a cameo appearance from Nolan muse Michael Caine.… Expand

The move drops time and time again clear info on the inverse nature of time and how it works. The exposition dumps from the Arms Dealer, the main Villain, the side kick and hardass bearded soldier is straight forward. Plus the literal action sequence show visually how the inverse of time all works. The literal movie trailer has massive spoilers in so I didn't go into this movie blind I expected it. The final sequence was cool, clever and with a tinge of sadness. Awh shucks I quite liked that character no spoilers.… Expand

It is definitely Nolan's least accessible work, but that does not make the movie less valuable. I understood maybe 20 percent of it after my first watch, but even then I really liked what he did with 007-genre. Soundtrack and atmosphere are amazing.

Its a top tier Chris Nolan movie the vision and execution were bigger. the music by Ludwig was literally spine chilling it was intense and awesome specially the reverse tracks were mind-blowing. the plot was confusing and complex as hell as it was said in movie don't try to understand it feel it. I did same and literally people were scratching heads while I Enjoyed the movie it was a magic. Literally for me its the best Imax Experience ever. from the moment the movie starts from then to end I don't even want to blink for a sec it was that awesome. the pacing was like butter it was smooth and brilliant, the starting intro with little comedy was surprising and the overall 1st half was good but when 2nd half was started literally The words are undiscovered to speak about this movie it was literally a Mind-blowing experience the way they connected plots and links with addition to awesome detailing it was fascinating. the action from start to end was god tier it was brilliant and the overall complex plot watching without paying attention to details make it simple understanding it was like once u start paying attention it was that complex and detail the brain feels the flexes but watching just like that feels badass and brilliantly fascinating it will be like didn't understand a thing but still its a masterpiece. the acting was Legendary John-David-Washington was badass, Elizabeth was stunning, Kenneth was Brilliant, Dimple-Kapadiya was surprisingly amazing and Rob-Pattinson was Heart and soul he was literally amazing specially at end the whole mystery was literally ground-breaking and at same time it was emotionally amazing. Overall the editing and production design was literally nail-bitingly awesome the inverted fight/chase and "stalsk 12" fight scenes was like how the hell they edited that thing it was literally the G.O.A.T scenes in action history. the cinematography was stunning, music,direction,acting,action,Plot and Concepts of time inversion, entropy the grand father paradox and all it was like Nolan played with his fav toy "Time" it was mind-blowing, The whole movie is a Never seen before experience Literally many re-watches needed to understand it fully. Its a Epic God tier Pure Masterpiece movie!

2nd Experience : It was much clear concept and story made sense, The James bond ish 1st half and inception ish 2nd half with it the reverse concept it was just mind-blowingly cool. The protagonists name and his identity about he recuriting niel and his mission felt clear, the temporal pincer character Apperances doubts are cleared and the whole concept of time and all that too were cleared, The sator's idealogy makes him awesome antagonist and the ending it was just brilliant. Yesterday we saw Tenet and thought the film was really good. At first I was blown away by the sound, with a great system it rattles through the whole place (that would have been really great in the cinema). When it came to the sound, I thought to myself "Wait a minute, that sounds familiar, somehow like Mandalorian" ... after the film, I took a quick look and you read Ludwig Göransson, great.

I liked the cinematic representation of the film very much, it all looks really strong and offers impressive images. Acting is also absolutely delivered here.

Regarding the actual story, I'll just say that I basically liked it, but didn't pull up any trees. It was very exciting in most parts (the intro is really blatant) and tied you to the chair. But every now and then I had the feeling that the film was languishing for a few minutes. Over time, the whole topic was "complex" networked, but I missed the "WTF moments" a bit, but there were nice brackets.

Overall, absolutely to be recommended, preferably with a good system. 8/10 inversions.… Expand

I have seen this movie twice. The first time, I liked it, but didn't love it because as others have said, the dialogue is difficult to understand. I saw it a second time however, and after digesting some of what I saw the first time, the movie made much more sense and I could appreciate much more of the experience. Now, I love the movie. It was an "experience" and I'm still thinking about it days later, listening to the soundtrack, doing web searches about some of the concepts and... well you get the idea. Every scene is crafted. Every sound effect is considered. It is a great movie going experience. Don't listen to the criticisms (which are perfectly valid by the way) but this is not a "zero" score as some users have rated it. It isn't a "5 or 6" either. This is movie magic and very good. If you don't "get it" and can't understand all of the dialogue (and that is understandable) just go with the action and sound, and then get it on Blu-ray later with subtitles and watch it a few more times (I know I will). This is one of those movies that will be entertaining on the 4th and 5th viewings. I just can't understand the hate by some - but to each their own. I really love the sci-fi trappings and over the top concepts. This is great stuff.… Expand

This is such an interesting movie, it's confusing, especially towards the end, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I love hardcore sci-fi and this is my cup of tea. I feel like watching it again with better understanding of the concepts and themes.

Tenet is Nolans clumsiest movie. But it is phänomenal. The zeitgeist is top. No masterpiece, but it is a movie, that brotkes our usually feeling for watching movies. It is provocative.An this needs the cinema.

I see Tenet as a breath of fresh air. It adds a genuinely interesting spin to the far overdone time travel cliche. I think you should go into this movie with the right expectations, though. Unique, ambitious and overwhelming. Put on a pot of coffee, it's a long, crazy ride. I did enjoy it, once I had given up trying to keep up with exactly what was happening with the plot.
