It’s not a good film but it’s not awful. If you are a Ninja Turtles fan and if the first film put you off I would recommend you give it a go. They get the Turtles down pretty well and there is a decent story here, if a very flawed one at that (especially when the climax rips off the climax of The Avengers). It, however, is not a great movie. The effects aren’t that great and still don’t blend too well with the live action, the actors aren’t giving great performances and the film could never seem to pick a villain and stick with it, having most of the villains feel rather wasted. Not a good film, but I expected worse. Expand

Mediocre action film

As most action films have no plot this movie at least had some plot to it with interesting villains as it was a bit boring however.

Despite what critics said of the FIRST, I quite liked it.

While this tries to carry on in the same vein, it feels like a two hour special of the original cartoon.

TEEENAAAGE MUUUTAAANT NI...zzzz, zzzz,zzzz... TUUURTLES!

The film also offers too much fan service and, not being a big TMNT fan, some of the parts of the film were over my head. However, the film gets some things right by putting the focus on the Turtles, the solid action scenes, and Bebop and Rocksteady act as fun villains. All of this equates to a very mediocre movie overall, but still better than the atrocious first movie. Expand

An average movie. The first spunky trailer was great but the movie has more of a serious tone. The only funny parts were, "My name is beep, BOP!" And "My Man".

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" Opens The Summer Season With Style

The quartet more fun based on comics - not, they are not "The Fantastic Four" - returns to the big screen after its predecessor "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in the year 2014, this time, they mentally prepared in surpassing it in terms of box office and critics, possibly, they will overcome one of the objectives, as regards to the other...
Again, Michael Bay is the producer, giving us action and sense of humor characteristic of his projects, but without the seduction of films like "Transformers". It has got potential, but to be a summer blockbuster needs wit. Dave Green ("Earth to Echo") was sitting in the director's chair, without experience in the genre, but with a great debut.

The sequel includes much more the personalities of the four reptiles - "Mikey," "Leo", "Raph" and "Donnie" - to create an environment equal or at least approximate to its predecessors, especially the soul of the comics of the 1990s.

To be classified as a fantasy or Sci-Fi (Science Fiction) film, the plot must be as distanced as possible of the reality - for obvious reasons - the downside is up to what point the argument becomes stupid or too illogical. The reptiles emerge from shadows in New York to fight against the evil Shredder (Brian Tee). Villain evades death and now travels by America to acquire the three fragments of a technological artifact created by the scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry), with the purpose of obtaining the potion that made possible the mutation of the turtles. Portals, substances purple, mutated animals, fights, and the end of the world make presence in the movie starring by April O'Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and one member more, Stephen Amell - star of "Arrow" of CW - as Casey Jones. The dark side of the story is formed by Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) a wild punk boar with glasses and purple Crest and Rocksteady (Sheamus) a strong rhinoceros. All of them led by Krang (Brad Garrett), a horrible and awesome brain with tentacles that lives inside an eccentric robot, applause for the special effects, especially the effects of this nasty little.

Megan Fox is a little bit of everything here, except reporter. It is remarkable to see how the team takes advantage of having one of the women more beautiful planet on their film - scene in which she has to be near to the mobile device of the scientist - showing great sensuality and delicacy, in which children did not pay attention, but the parents perhaps do. April O'Neil helps in what can to the team, she runs, is camouflaged, shout and fight, a powerful woman.

Shows of its loyalty towards comics, turtles do not explore beyond New York, proving that a big summer blockbuster does not need Europe or Asia to entertain.

Like a great regular movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" offers cheap entertainment but enjoyable, explosions, car chases and any fight that you imagine are the sequel. We are entering the summer season, where watch a film that stand out in its genre is almost impossible, turtles do not bring nothing new to the adventures world, however, with a soda glass and popcorn, the best you can do is watch it.

Was it more faithful to the cartoon? Maybe, but its mindless garbage. At least the first was coherent and anyone with a brain larger than the size of a pea could engage with it. Past the stupid one liners and over used jokes and action, it makes absolutely no sense. Stuff happens because stuff happens. Over used plot points and nonsensical character motivations. People kept saying this one was better than the first and its garbage in its purest form. The first was far more comprehensive and cohesive with a plot that made sense, characters with proper motivations beyond “I’m good” and “I’m evil”. When a producer gives the go ahead to a bad script, and it is badly edited, they don't say, "We made a bad movie." They say, "The Turtles just aren't in style. They don't sell like Batman or Spiderman does."

TMNT: Out of the Shadows is a huge disappointment. It will tank at the box office, and because of it there will most likely not be any Turtle films in the near future. And that's a shame. I grew up on the Turtles more than Spiderman, Batman, or Superman combined. I loved the Turtles as a child. I still do. Rachael is my turtle-bro. I can't believe I have to leave a bad review on metacritics. They're lucky I don't do movie review on my youtube channel.

The script is badly, badly written. I get that Donatello is smart. But come one. He can trace the two knucklehead, Bebop and Rocksteady, in the film just by analyzing the mutagen that made them into a Rhino and Warthog. Really? And he's immediately knows that the artifacts Shredder is after are a teleportation device just because? He also exactly what's going to come out of the portal. He even knows the name of the villain, Krang, and the **** name of his Technodrome. Really? Who the **** wrote this script?

And then, there's the CGI. It was horrible, but I won't get started on that. I get the whole cartoonish look they were after, but some set pieces just look bad. And then there's the action. It is sloppy. It's shaky. It cuts from scene to scene way too fast. You barely get a feel for it before it ends. It ends leaving you dissatisfied.

The introduction of Krang is also bad. It came out of nowhere. Out of nowhere, Krang and Shedder make an alliance. There's absolutely no build up to it.

It's just, hey, there's Shredder. Zap, he's gone from earth.
"Let's team up," Krang says.
"Okay," Shredder answers.
Zap he's back on earth. Shedder is up to no good again.

And to make things worst, even ****ing Krang knows everything is to know about the Turtles, and Shredder's his past encounters with them. Could this script get any stupider?

But, hey, look who produced it. Michael Bay. Why is he still making movies?

When they were rebooted to the big screen a few years back I was not a fan. It was hard for me to get used to the new design of the Turtles themselves, and the story left a lot to be desired. If it was given a re-write by a true fan they might have had something. This time around you can tell director Dave Green is a true fan and it pays off!

The Breakdown:

Story: 2.5/5

Strengths:
Taking a lot of elements from the first cartoon series!
Lot’s of nods and jokes to fans.

Weaknesses:
Clunky dialog. I know this is a family movie about Ninja Turtles and aliens but this could have been handled better.

Characters: 2.5/5

Strengths:
Leonardo is now voiced by the motion capture actor, Pete Ploszek vs Johnny Knoxville.
Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (Stephen Farrelly) are true to their original characters and are a blast every time they are on screen.
All the Turtles feel much truer to their characters then they did in the last film.

Weaknesses:
Casey Jones (Stephen Amell) has some good moments of entertainment, but feel he could have been a lot stronger if they stayed closer to the original character.
Karai (Brittany Ishibashi) has nothing to do for most of the movie except stand at Shedder’s side.
Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) felt like forced humor and was more distracting. Hopefully if they bring him back as the Fly it might be a better fit.
Can we please get someone else to play April O’Neal instead of Megan Fox?

Visuals: 4/5

Strengths:
All the animated characters felt they fit into the environment.

Weaknesses:
Some of the Technodrome shots in the climax stand out as un-polished animation.

Bottom Line: 3/5

If you are a Ninja Turtle fan you’ll have a great time! We finally get Bebop and Rocksteady and they are fantastic! Unlike the first outing the Turtles voices and personalities are handled well and they all have their moments to shine. With the exception of Shedder just ignore the human cast and let the mutants and aliens run the show!

No post credit scene. You are free to leave the theater.

Beebop and Rocksteady finally get their chance on the big screen. The movie features other notable characters like Splinter, April, Casey Jones, Krang and Shredder.

However...the film doesn't quite manage to juggle all of them effectively. Die-hard turtle fans may love the fanservice but some of the characters feel incredibly under-developed or completely off the mark entirely.

Splinter, Casey Jones and even Shredder himself feel like they are afterthoughts. The brief moments they have on screen are alright; but they don't really add much either. Casey Jones and April feel as though they are there solely to advance the plot. Megan Fox's performance of April is one that feels phoned in. In fact the portrayal of April feels like its trying to leverage her sex appeal especially in one of the opening scenes.

Shredder spends a decent portion of the movie with his helmet off and never even has a confrontation with the turtles which is a let down. Krang is perhaps one of the standouts in the film. Reading other reviews I thought Krang wouldn't even have as much screentime as he has even if it is still rather limited.

The plot itself is fairly simple and nothing spectacular. The main focus is on the Turtles themselves and their relationship with one another. I think this is the thing I enjoyed the most about the movie. I liked that they explored the human elements that tie the turtles together. Their bond as brothers. The big theme in the film is "People are afraid of what they don't understand." Its a theme that has been done before and in fact has been used in other recent films like BvS. Its disappointing that we don't see the turtles doing more ninja stuff than what we get.

In the end the movie is an enjoyable popcorn flick if you aren't expecting a deep narrative plot. Like Michael Bay's Transformers, TMNT Out of the Shadows is a big dumb fun action flick. Mileage will vary depending on personal taste, however I can say that I had fun with it despite its flaws.

Nonetheless, the actors behind the turtles were all strong (great to see them actually letting Pete Ploszek PLAY the part this team rather than handing the voice over last time), and I think the movie was admittedly better than the last one. Not sure what happened to Stephen Amell's performance though - felt really disjointed in a way that felt like editing mistakes (considering he's so consistent on Arrow…). Expand

The story itself is just full of fan service to try to get fans nostalgia to blindly make them like this movie, and even without it, this movie would have just been like the original, dull and boring. The action scenes are not that exciting and lose tension because of bad, if anything at all, character development. The CGI is is once again terrible looking with no improvement. And the humor does nothing to make a intelligent person laugh.Overall, instead of actually trying to improve on the franchise, it just makes it continue to displease fans and moviegoers alike. Expand

Better Than The First One
TMNT: Out Of The Shadows isn’t as unbearable as the first one, But it’s still dumb, poorly written, and messy.

Kinda better than the first film, though by the end it basically levels out as a draw between the two. Too mundane once more.

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows' does improve a few things, one being the score - not that it's great or anything, but it's more pleasant than Brian Tyler's attempt. Overall it's a little more watchable, but what affects this most is the messy ending - especially with the CGI, which looks like a video game.

Cast-wise it's largely the same, though Johnny Knoxville is dropped - not that I noticed until the credits, mind. Can't say I'll remember any of the cast's performances, just like in the 2014 production.

I guess it's a positive that this didn't completely crap the bed, as sequels sometimes do - especially ones that follow poor originals. Still, this isn't good at all - and, unsurprisingly, killed the would-be franchise early on.
