TheWatching Rey and Kylo Ren battle on the ruined remains of the Death Star feels like such an appropriate and pathetic metaphor for Episode 9. Rise of Skywalker is like a dog picking at the leftovers of something that's been dead for years. The Last Jedi was bad, but that movie didn't force them to center Episode 9 around a fleet of 10,000 star destroyers, each armed with a Death Star laser. The plot was nonsensical, there are so many plot holes and logical inconsistencies, and the pacing was so jarringly fast. The cast and special effects departments did a great job, but it was in service of a contrived script. There are so many moments that are meant to tug at your heart strings, but I just felt nothing. When The Force Awakens was released the vast majority of fans liked it. They were practically watching a remake of A New Hope but it was enough for them. Although they never liked Rey. That damn feminist agenda right?

The Last Jedi took that from them, it got away from the formula and they went crazy. Who was that Rian Johnson and how he dare to change the characters that only they know how they should act?

They did not give them what they wanted and that annoyed them and it's ironic because many times they have complained about the saga and its direction and if something has become clear to me it's that the great majority only want the same, like in the original trilogy. And what does that mean? Fan service. And that's what Star Wars has become.

You don't believe me? Ask fans about the scene they liked the most about Rogue One.
Vader's scene. A fan service scene. And the fear of losing the ''fans'' forced Disney to undo what they were creating, they also threw Johnson and his film under the bus and they practically announced this new film like the one that came to fix the disaster. A shame and an insult to the director's work.

Rise of Skywalker in my opinion represents a setback and it doesn't matter that this is supposed to be the ending. It's a setback because they decided to play it safe and submit to the whims of the audience.
While that does not translate into poor quality, it doesn't represent something worth mentioning either. Star Wars represents pure and good entertainment but when it lacks surprises and feels so safe and predictable it means that you're sacrificing any emotional resonance and when it comes to the end of the 9 episodes, that emotion is simply not there. That shot of Rey looking at the two suns should have felt overwhelming and thrilling and I don't know about you but I didn't feel it and that was a huge letdown. And that's what separates this ending from Return of The Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, even though it was known what would happen in Episode III, despite the mistakes there was emotion, here was like finishing the business. I don't consider myself a die-hard fanatic of Star Wars but I do like the saga a lot, yet in order to survive, even of its toxic fandom, they have to dare to try new stuff and forget about the original trilogy because to live in the past is to die in the present and for the saga to have a future, looking forward is the only way. It's a very well made and entertaining film and it was a decent ending for this trilogy but quite an underwhelming conclusion for the saga as a whole.

And the Knights of Ren? What a **** disappointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I came into the movie with an open mind and I really wanted to celebrate the end of a great cultural era. This movie benefits from massive CGI budgets and enticing action scenes. However, the movie failed to imbue a sense of importance with the weak storyline. This movie felt RUSHED and at times it felt like I was watching two different movies. There were moments where I wanted to cheer and moments that left me literally scratching my head.

SO many plotholes in the story make it feel like a disjointed experience throughout. ALSO, the movie kills or saves characters depending on how convenient it is to the "story". I'm pretty sure when they blew up that planet, a certain somebody was on the ground. They then magically show up at the end? Oh Lord, what they did to Finn's character as well removed any depth they had cultivated. Finn’s character has been reduced to screaming “REY” over and over again. They also screwed him over with a particular piece of dialogue he wanted to tell Rey but didn’t. My guess is that Finn wanted to revea
l he was force-sensitive in some way but they didn’t give him the honor! You have a whole movie where Finn is basically told to shut up and move along, to his own detriment. I do not like how actors of color have been handled in this sequel trilogy. I’m not some SJW, but they didn’t give any depth to the black and brown characters on screen. It was as if they were checking off a diversity checklist. I’m not complaining about the supporting cast, I’m talking about the lack of depth given to characters like Finn or his first order friend. I wish I could be more positive about it, but if you seriously break down the plot it falls apart very fast. I was left shaking my head about 10 to 15 times in this movie, visibly upset at many of the choices made. Poe did a great job in this movie! I loved his character arc, although the light speed skipping thing MADE 0 SENSE. Why would he pull such a dangerous move with only three enemy fighters behind him? We’ve seen the Falcon kill more baddies before. Why does it necessitate performing this dangerous maneuver? PLOT, that’s why. They wanted to setup Poe as this infallible, god-tier pilot, which worked for most of the movie but left me confused at points. I also like how they keep the gang together, which makes this movie much better than TLJ. I was not satisfied with the story, I could only suspend my disbelief until it got ridiculous. YES, i enjoy action scenes, but that's just good production, not good storytelling. The score is AMAZING, John Williams did it again. The comedic elements of the script hit about 60% of the time. I left the theater feeling dejected and numb. I won't be going to the theaters to watch this movie again. The way they used Palpatine was just weak as hell and made Anakin's sacrifice feel so insignificant. How is this movie about the Skywalkers but they don’t bring back ANAKIN? Not even as a force ghost?! Fans, go watch it for yourselves but this movie left nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. This movie didn't excel because of the mistakes made by Rian Johnson, something this film is quick to point out every step of the way. It's like they made Ep 7 and skipped 8, then made 9. That's literally what this feels like. HOW could Palps have amassed a fleet of destroyers FULLY STAFFED? Who fed these humans? The movie moves much too quickly for you to question ANYTHING. The way this movie was edited created a jumbled pace that made the movie hard to follow. The back and forth between characters are appreciated but the humor falls flat in more than 50% of the scenes. They also wasted Lando’s role in the movie; it just doesn’t make sense!

This not a cohesive story and just takes us on an empty ride. It weaponizes nostalgia against the fan base to make us cough up money. This was not a good story and I'm not happy about this. The Palpatine arc was so weak... I believe they wasted the great Emperor by bringing him back.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This might be end to the saga, but this really disappointed me. The story telling, the character development. I just felt meh, about it. It’s action packed, and got me emotional 2 times but that was it. What happened to R2-D2 in the first half instead we got some new droid. What happened to the knights of Ren? Why didn’t the command ship go to a higher altitude when they were trying to blow it up on horses? Sooo many questions. Expand

Alot of retconing, sadly the film was rushed and had alot of unwanted/ needed scenes. Ray is far to powerful, and has not been shown enough in training to warrant her over the top abilities. Sadly I also felt the ending was an insult to the original.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers ahead, be warned. I'll quickly bullet point the things I liked and disliked and then provide a summary conclusion.
LIKED (in no particular order):
- Ian McDiarmid's performance as Emperor Palpatine, fantastic as always.
- How Leia was addressed in this film.
- General Pryde. This is how the First Order leadership should be, not like Hux who comes across as slapstick.
- Babu Frik (just really liked the character)
- Utilisation of C3PO and how he was written seems consistent with the C3PO of old.
- Chewie getting a medal (cheesy but fitting)
- Light saber duel on the remnants of the Death Star II
- How RoS attempted to fix some of the issues with the last movie, although the downside of this is that it broke the immersion.
- Rey's character given a bit more depth in this movie and finally faced some meaningful challenges.
- The Rey and Kylo dynamic was solid in this movie and both Daisy and Adam both gave great performances.
DISLIKED (in no particular order):
- Over use of fan service. Fan service should be used sparingly and the core focus should be on organically moving forward the story.
- Movie pace too scattered and frantic and not enough breathing space.
- Too many McGuffins, the whole movie felt like a giant scavenger hunt. The McGuffins also seemed to be simple plug'n'play devices that you just connect to your space usb-c and away you go. Where is the lore and history?.. these are supposed to be Sith artifacts.
- The slapstick humor (very immersion breaking). By all means have some humor, but don't make it slapstick.
- Palpatine telegraphing to the galaxy by threatening revenge. Palps is a master of patience and deception, playing his cards too early is not his modus operandi!
- Palpatine getting beaten so easily. This guy has amassed a huge knowledge of the dark side and would have anticipated how his own force lightening may have been used against him.
- Luke's x-wing being fully operational when given to Rey. You can tell it was damaged from 'The Last Jedi'.. how is it immediately useable?
- The horses on the Star Destroyer just seemed very out of place - Lack of perceived threat level by the First Order or Final Order, this is generally because they either yell a lot or are complete buffoons. The Empire were measured, cold, clinical, and calculated. - Referencing the plot holes from the previous movie felt hugely immersion breaking.
- Having huge chunks of the Death Star II still intact on Kef Bir, did JJ and Chris Terrio not see ROTJ and the huge explosion at the end?
- Light speed skipping?! Han takes calculated risks, while Poe takes careless risks.
- They fly now, they fly now, they fly now. Do these people live in the Star Wars universe?
- Story of this movie and the trilogy is mostly a re-skinned tired re-tread of the OT, - Finn under utilised. Finn had potentially one of the better story arcs of the trilogy but this wasn't really capitalised on.

SUMMARY:
Having now seen the entire Sequel Trilogy I am left thinking what was the point of all this?! This movie and for that matter the whole sequel trilogy represent a failure of planning, imagination, and story telling. I still believe that Disney has the potential to create a movie of the same calibre as the OT, but they need to stop treating Star Wars as the cinema version of fast food.

Ultimately the only compliments i can give it are that they did well with Leia considering Carrie Fishers passing a few years back, The music is amazing as always, and the actors try their best. Adam Driver and John Williams carried this movie harder than theyve ever had to carry a production before.

The whole thing is a muddled mess, even being a visual downgrade from The Last Jedi with sections of the movie you can barely even see and almost no memorable shots. characters and plot points make very little sense, new extremely impactful force powers introduced out of nowhere, and what felt like a dozen fakeouts, several of which were downright insulting, and none of it is properly explained or presented reasonably. I struggle to think of a single character who wasnt mistreated by this movie, even Rey loses her characterisation and relatability in favour of making her even more powerful than she already was.

and worst of all, They uproot Anakin Skywalkers place as the chosen one and try to fool you with one line of dialogue. This movie is insulting not only to the audience, but the very franchise its a part of.

TFA told us the OT didnt matter, TLJ told us TFA didnt matter, and now RoS tells us not only does TLJ not matter, but neither do the prequels. Star Wars fans got Game of Thrones season 8'd.

The film is two hours of frenetic pacing and hurried, cliché writing as J.J. Abrams tries to erase Rian Johnson's Episode 8 tragedy and speed to a conclusion of his own. The result is a film that never stops moving, never allows for any real emotional connections when certain big events transpire, and turns into a Michael Bay-esque action-shot-o-rama.

There's plenty of fan service to be had, which is fine, but it's clearly being used to gloss over the major shortcomings the film has. Lots of retcons (not just of Ep 8 but also some of Abrams' own Ep 7), lots of plot holes, and a lot more Mary Sue Rey. Whether they realized it or not, the writers essentially lifted the Palpatine plot from the [now non-canon] book 'Dark Empire II' -- and that makes me ponder just how much better this could have been had Disney adapted the post-Return of the Jedi Extended Universe into a proper trilogy rather than throw the entire EU into the trashcan.

Say what you will about the Lucas prequel trilogy: They were full of Lucas' 'complete control' excess with a lot of bad writing but at least they told a mostly consistent story which Lucas had a planned start, middle, and ending for. This Disney sequel trilogy has been a bumbling, incoherent, inconsistent mess from start to finish and the only thought I left the theater with was: Thank God we're done with this Disney travesty for the foreseeable future. At least we have The Mandalorian to look forward to and if Disney is smart they would: A) Hand off the reins to the film franchise to Dave Filoni and Jon Faverau, and, B) let the Star Wars film franchise rest for several years before bringing out anything else.

Yet it failed to impress due to bad execution and the plot being too much of a copy of Episode IV. It did however have the potential to set up a great trilogy.
Episode VIII then threw all of that out the window, turned the best of the new characters into a comedy relief and his only interresting and emotional scene into a cringefest, while the established characters were turned on their head or just killed in the background and the movie got lost in pointless sideplots.

Episode IX - well...
It relies on bringing back the villain of the previous trilogy from the dead, which would have been a decent plot twist had it not been spoiled by the trailers.
Great start...

Since the predecessors did such a poor job of building up story and characters the movie has to spend its first half doing that, leading to massive pacing issues.
Abrams throws in some of the cheapest and most uncreative tropes possible to archieve this and keep the plot going, using the overly fast pacing to distract from how outright stupid and artificial the whole thing is.

The second half seems much better on the surface, but falls apart as soon as you turn your brain on.
Many scenes require you to just accept that a certain premise is true even though its painfully obvious how nonsensical it is, a lot of other things are just so awfully convenient for the plot that they feel extremely unnatural.
And the force is completely bent into oblivion, now being capable of teleportation and whatever else.

And the End...
That might have actually been at least decent, had Rey been built up as a character that you could care about and be emotionally invested in.
But aside from 2-3 scenes she is as bland and unlikable as ever so it just doesnt really work.
Also aspects of it are copied from Episode VI...

The reason why Im not giving it a trash rating despite all of this is that there are some genuinely good moments of character interaction and because it is obvious that most of these problems arent really the fault of this film but of its predecessor.
Abrams was given an impossible task with this and even though you can see he tried, it ended as one would expect.
Had they made this a two-part movie it propably would have worked much better as there would have been much more time to build the plot and the characters, but that wasnt an option aparently.
The result feels more like a rushed atempt at damage control than like a worthy conclusion to a trilogy.

The movie isnt good, but its propably about as good as it ever could have been under these screwed up circumstances.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All the talk of ignoring TLJ I don’t get. I for one wish they retconned more. I felt this was an ok follow up to TLJ. Hard for these movies to resonate after all the time I’ve spent with Star Wars. So many quality EU stories have been created and Disney is just not brave enough to mess with the OT enough. We will get all of the ideas fleshed out from TLJ, eventually. We will see Rey train Finn in a few years. We can even see Lucas return for a trilogy now. I’m glad the Disney Skywalker incest story is over. They did not do as good a job as say the Heir to the Empire story line. They were not brave enough with this latest trilogy. I’m still glad they tried and I’m excited for more. I did like Lando and many parts of this final movie. It did not push me away like TLJ. But I’m already trying to forget the entire thing and move on. They tried to both move on and concoct a OT SkyWalker Story, they should have done one or the other. We would always come back for more. We didn’t need force-fed new characters. This is just one version of many, keep hope, there will be hits and misses. But my Luke and Leia stories will always live in the EU. My recommendation is to go read Zahns first trilogy and Jedi Academy books to really see a good Star Wars story. But for this movie go and make some noise and make the audience your show and enjoy yourself! This movie has more good then bad, but I chose to hold on to other versions of Luke’s story. Go and cheer, go high five strangers, clap, cheer, and feel free to debate and chastise the story too. We are all a part of this story, we are all related when it comes to Star Wars, like it or not. The characters of Rey, Finn & Poe fail to really develop, which is a shame since they showed such great promise in The Force Awakens. Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is really the only character worth getting invested in, and he deserved a much better ending than what he got. Star Wars is done for as a premium series, it can't be saved by any number of new movies or TV shows, because Disney destroyed what made Star Wars special in the first place. It broke the concept of the Force, making everybody able to instantly become a Jedi Master with no training, something that goes against the very principles of life (you can't become good at something if you don't train a lot and don't have the talent). This trilogy of awful and pseudo "progressive" sequels should never have existed. If you think the prequels were bad just because of Jar-Jar Binks or Anakin Skywalker, the Disney sequels are even worse.

Episode IX comes after the disastrous (and dreadful) Episode VIII, so the producers and writers had to backpedal on everything that enraged fans and play it safe. Only they didn't have enough time to make a good script, so it's just a straight and mindless rush to the finale with no care or respect for the past.

Episode IX is actually a better movie than I expected, with all the mediocre reviews going around. It's better only because it merely relies on the nostalgia factor and fan service. Otherwise, it's just a rehash of everything we've already seen in past movies (including the dreaded Disney sequels).

The actual plot is some pile of horrible BS, absurd moments of stupidity, and some missed opportunities. I mean, there are a few pretty good ideas thrown around here and there (like the Rey-Kylo connection and dynamic), but they are never developed correctly, and are lost amidst the chaos and the cringe. There is simply too much stuff crammed in this movie, confusing even people like me who are used to crammed plots. It'd have been better to split this movie into 2 parts, delete the abomination of The Last Jedi from the face of the Earth while pretending it never existed (like the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978), and make 2 episodes of it.

One criticism I read in most professional reviews is about the "mistake of retconning Rey's parentage". It's actually the other way around. This retconning is the righting of an original huge mistake, and it's a pretty well done one, too, considering all that's happening in the movie.

The movie even somehow manages to end somewhat satisfyingly, despite all the chaos and cringe going on. At least I didn't leave cinema vomiting like when I watched the horrible Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Only by watching the prequels/originals 3 times each was I able to get back to health in the last 2 years.

Overall, the Star Wars trilogy of sequels is a total artistic failure, no matter how many billions of dollars Disney make off them. Episode 1 had the memorable pod racing scene and the epic lightsaber battle of Qui Gonn Jin, Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul. Episode 2 had the invasion of the clones. Episode 3 had the Anakin/Obi Wan lightsaber duel. The original films are unforgettable. What will people remember from the Disney sequels? Other than Kylo Ren stabbing Han Solo, or Kylo's peculiar lightsaber, nothing.

It's 5/10 purely because of fan service and nostalgia. Objectively it should have been 3/10, but I'm just human. Seeing Leia and all the beloved characters returning for one final showdown made me soften.

It did feel rushed, but I can live with that given that it had to deal in 150 minutes what was supposed to be done in 2 movies. Glad it's over.

'Professional' critics seem to be overly harsh on this film.⁣ ⁣ To be honest, this whole Disney Star Wars thing is a complete disaster. The first film wasn't perfect but it was good enough to get everyone curious. The Last Jedi is where they messed up, it was Disney disregarding the old fans for new fans (and weirdly not only splitting the fan base for no reason but also constantly calling old fans names for their opinion) which resulted in toy sales failing, the theme park not doing anywhere near as well as it could have (what do you expect when you take out all beloved characters that built up the brand to begin with) and even the Solo movie suffered for TLJ. People can argue that things like the theme park aren't losing money like toy sales, but this is Star Wars for god's sake, it should have been massive.⁣ ⁣ This film's biggest flaws are a result of Disney panicking because it wasn't making massive profits, injecting fan service in a completely out of touch way (such as 'Reylo', Palpatine and doing a 360 on 'all opinions mattering') they did it clumsily resulting in old fans still hating it but now they've also lost the new fans. It is an impressive feat. ⁣ ⁣ This was a disappointing ending to a disappointing series of films. Looking at the film by itself, it isn't as bad as CATS but 'not as bad' is a disaster when you are talking about THE Star Wars. Expand

Just like the prequels it's an ok movie.

Did you like episode 3. Are you ok with watching a movie of that quality? But watching something that nullifies most of ep 8?

If yes you are like me and will enjoy this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. By any means, this is not a good movie. It can be enjoyable if you are a certain type of Star Wars fan, and you don't mind holding your breath from start to finishing and ignoring a ton of plot holes and over-the-top retconning.

Whether you liked The Last Jedi or not, it is undeniable that it at least tried to make something different. Here everything is back to a binary good versus evil, in an attempt to appease old school Star Wars fans, going as far as using a villain which makes zero sense.

The Last Jedi broke free of the "everything has to be connected" and fully accepted the "the force works in mysterious ways" mantra, and it could have had so much potential if this movie just accepted it. But no, it had to give in to TLJ haters, so it crammed way too much content into one single movie, it retconnted everything there was to retcon (Leia was a Jedi, and she was more powerful than Luke! Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter! And Leia and Luke knew about this! Luke was searching for the Sith base! Snoak was Palpatine's puppet! And of course, Palpatine is ALIVE despite falling for thousands of feet, exploding, and having the Death Star itself explode around him!).

In a hindsight, this movie clearly shows how there was zero planning behind this new trilogy. This makes what Marvel achieved with Endgame look even more amazing.

The plot ends up seeming too rushed and the movie doesn't "breathe" due to the constant action.

Well lets just say ChristmasA long time ago...four years to be distinct; the space opera ‘Star Wars’ returned to cinemas with ‘The Force Awakens', that brought back the bittersweet experience that fans have been craving for over 30 years. Well lets just say Christmas was magical that year. While I wasn’t quite as wowed as everyone else, but I still enjoyed it otherwise and I was interested where the story will go after J.J. Abrams left his “mystery box” of questions for another director to answer. How exciting and epic the next years will be.

And then the sequel and two spin-offs happened. Well lets just say my interest for these new movies has completely evaporated. And no I don’t feel like I’m being overly negative in the heat this movie is receiving, because right now, at this very moment, my thoughts and overall feeling on this movie are genuine, and re-watching it isn’t going to safe it. ‘Rise of Skywalker’ is a factory made movie with no heart, no soul, and no magic. Words and phrases like: bold, epic, and satisfying - are not the type of words that I would describe this final chapter in the Skywalker saga. I can’t call something bold if it played things incredibly safe. Each movie exists just to shred up and apologize for what came before it.

J.J. Abrams can be hit or miss sometimes, but I must admit he had a difficult task to follow up on ‘Last Jedi’ and Rian Johnson undoing his mystery box questions. If that wasn’t bad enough, the death of Carrie Fisher also had a massive effect on the story, and including her into the movie, while respecting her legacy and giving her as much screen time with the limited deleted footage they have. Abrams sadly treads on familiar ground and doesn't really handle the originals (or even the prequels) with respect. This is literally a remake of ‘Return of The Jedi’.

The story in this movie is almost nonexistent. It’s so rushed that you can’t catch a breather amidst the chaos. Nothing flows naturally. Characters running around and jumping from location to location. I think the quick pace easily hides the poor writing and plot holes. I also thought the title crawl is a bit off and felt it was written by a Reddit user. From the moment the movie starts until it ends nothing makes a lick of sense.

I think the biggest waste of opportunity is the character of Finn, because the potential of greatness was set up in ‘The Force Awakens’, and they didn’t do a single thing with it. I mean, a Stormtrooper who revolt against the corrupt and sinister empire, which is something we haven’t seen before. Heck, a long time ago he held a lightsaber. Unfortunately in this movie he’s a comedic buffoon that sweats and shouts a lot. What a waste of John Boyega’s talent. They did him dirty. I like Daisy Ridley, not so much on Rey. I don’t want to jump on any bandwagon here, but I don’t understand how someone can be so over powered and skillful at the force with barely any training. Whenever there is training it’s over before you know it. There was a point where I said to myself, “Who taught her to do that?”, or “how the hell did she do that?”. I really struggled to emotionally connect with Rey, because there’s nothing more dull than a character with no flaws or growth.

The strongest element throughout these three movies was Kylo Ren by the magnificent Adam Driver. This guy literally carried this series on his back. At least his character as an arc, and not just wasted potential. I actually connected with his inner conflict between the dark side and the light side. Emperor Palpatine is back...for some reason. The vague explanation of why he’s back made it clear to me that Disney had no plan from the start for these new movies. Still, Ian McDiarmid is fantastic as always. He oozes with evil and soaks up every wicked moment of it.

The awkward and ill-placed comedy from ‘Last Jedi’ is still present and it got worse and worse as it went along. With this being the finale, new characters still get introduce and get some development. Like, why are you introducing new characters now? Billy Dee Williams returns as the slick and classy Lando, but sadly doesn't really do much for the story. Richard E. Grant is great as the ruthless new commander of the First Oder with the small screen time he has. Dominic Monaghan, on the other hand, feels like an extra. Rose Tico has a smaller role this time around and her entire love triangle with Finn from ‘Last Jedi’ gets brush under the carpet. Kelly Marie Tran sure can’t catch a break.

The action sequences with the lightsaber fights and space battles were mostly forgettable. Even the scenes that stick to mind wasn’t that special. The camera fails to capture focal points with the grand scale lacking.

Overall rating: An unsatisfying conclusion. At least ‘The Mandalorian’ is good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
Mal sehen was die Zukunft unserem Star Wars bringt. The Mandalorian finde ich zum Beispiel hammer!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie starts off well but but by the middle of the film you start to feel the cringe. The final act of the movie is ridiculous. JJ pulls on a lot of nostalgia which as a fan I did appreciate after 40 years, however there's problems I have with the film. There's stuff that breaks cannon. It trys hard to win you over by using very emotional moments, with fan service. But moves too quickly through one plot to another and hopping to different locations. Of course the photography is stunning though and I did like Daisy Ridley and Adam Drivers acting in the film. However if you ask me Finns lines while better than the last Jedi, still seemed to be mostly cut down to short lines. Princess Liea's passing away did not feel emotional enough it lacked something and felt sterile. Only seeing chewbacca break down crying out gave me the real heart felt notion that she has died and chewbacca is clearly upset. Poe actually looks good at the helm of the millennium falcon I always felt he was a good looking Rogue type in this trilogy. The millions of star Destroyers and resistance ships by the last act is truly terrible. The New force powers are a joke. Essentially being able to heal people is a nice thing a jedi might do but it's never been done on a movie. I really never liked this force communication thing Rey and Kylo can do. Now they can even reach through time and space and pass each other objects too and fight each other! Talk about lazy and absurd at the same time. I find JJ can't really find anything original to create in this movie and for that reason is not any different than The Force Awakens. Expand

Unfortunately, the result was half the movie had zero pacing - it felt like scenes were being crammed in just for the sake of saying they happened, and scenes stopped instead of ended, which is to say it never felt like the end of a scene was a conclusion to any meaningful dialogue or emotion. It felt like I was watching the first half on fast forward, as there were never any pauses or drama, and there was zero nuance to scenes and interactions. There was almost no character development whatsoever - by the end I found myself not caring for a single character, old or new, and it didnt feel like anyone had meaningful relationships, rather, it felt like we were being TOLD characters liked or disliked each other, and not shown. There were also dozens of characters introduced who could have had potentially cool or unique influences on the plot, but then were thrown away almost immediately, either being killed in a fight, or just never appearing again. The second half of the movie was alright, and the effects were very cool, but it still felt incredibly disappointing as the finale to a trilogy, especially a Star Wars trilogy. Expand

Kathleen Kennedy needs to be fired as does Bob Iger for his poor judgement in handling this disaster. JJ Abrams put in every old Star Wars reference in the book and jammed in Easter Eggs and a flashing light show that will give you permanent retina damage. JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy had a huge task of wrapping up all these storylines while appeasing new fans and old fans. I had a lot of issues with the movie (as an original trilogy fan who loved the energetic direction of sequel trilogy). There were themes and character arcs that didn't resolve. The importance of giving a fulfilling ending to Rey was traded to appease bitter fans. Sadly, there was a positive portion of the fandom who cheered and supported these new movies every step of the way. The creators turned their backs on that fandom, to appease the loud, vilifying part of Star Wars "True Fans!" apparently, who hated these movies from the start. Such a wasted opportunity to tell a bold new story, one that would really make a difference and challenge people's perception of what Star Wars can be, but instead it is relegated to focusing on reliving moments from the original trilogy. This movie gave me everything but left me empty and wondering what was the point of this whole thing because it sure wasn't hope. If anything, it was about giving in to fear of a rabid fan base. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was dissappointed. This remains an okay-ish movie for me, but there were too many incomprehensible moments: 1) The kiss...why? 2) Finn's unanswered question to Rey seems extremely sloppy, 3) Zorrii Bliss, Jannah, D-O, Han...should all have been left out of the movie, 4) Princess Leia...I'm sorry but was it really necessary to bring her back? I did like some of the humor, action sequences and the acting of Rey/Ren.
But why not keep Chewie dead? This could have given some true emotional weight to the movie.
Unpopular opinion: I'm glad Rian Johnson will be Directing some future SW movie (although I had some issues with SW8 as well).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty weak movie, don't love it, don't hate it. As a huge Star Wars fan I hoped IX won't ignore VIII too much, but I guess the pressure from the "fandom" was too much. Still astonishing, how Disney could make a trilogy without a complete vision. But IX is so non-creative, making the movie feel empty. Planetdestroyer tech on stardestroyes. Seriously, who greenlit this? We had 2 Deathstars, a Starkiller Base, this ramp canon in VIII and now this. Where are your creative minds Hollywood?

I had one emotional moment, when Chewie roars after Leia's death. Emotionally I was more invested TLJ (R2+Luke, Luke+Yoda, Luke+Leia, Reylo). I would have said ok, we **** up, let's do 2 more movies, build on VII and VIII. Something coherent. This whole trilogy now feels very odd. Still, not the end of the world, but the trilogy could have had some more heart and respect for it's legacy.

It's stupid. There's a ton of hand waving, retconning, Marvel-esque dialogue that tries way too hard to be funny, and idiotic plot conveniences. However, in spite of all the flaws, I cannot bring myself to hate this movie too much, as I had such a blast watching this movie. Without going to deeply into spoiler territory, I will say that this is the kind of movie you watch with your friends to have a good time while drunk.

I'm not going to go into spoilers at all, but I will say that if you are a degenerate who loved The Last Jedi like I am, you will probably dislike this movie. About 2/3 of The Last Jedi is retconned, and JJ Abrams just keeps the bits of The Last Jedi he liked and pretty much discards the rest. Speaking of JJ Abrams' writing, the dialogue in this movie is pretty bad across the board. Rise of Skywalker feels like Marvel-lite, not Star Wars. This is insane, because JJ Abrams also was in charge of The Force Awakens, which is my favorite film in the sequel trilogy! Going off of that note, if there is one thing the Rise of Skywalker makes utterly apparent, it's that there is absolutely zero cohesion between the three films in this new trilogy. This movie in particular almost feels like the finale of a completely different trilogy! It's really obvious that Disney had no road map on where to go in this series, and in this movie, it really, really shows.

My favorite part of Rise of Skywalker was the exploration of the relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey. These two characters really carry this entire movie, and their scenes were the best written scenes in the movie. The rest of the film is stupid, and lazy, and the Force is relegated into some Dungeons and Dragons level plot convenience. I laughed out loud at a lot of the silly story choices, and I was not the only one in the theater who did so. I hope you all go to the movies and make your own opinions about this movie. Some will love it. Some will hate it. You will have fun watching it in either case. May the Force be with you!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a lifetime Star Wars fan, I didn't hate this movie, just disappointed. Plenty of good ideas brought to the table that just felt rushed. Not the worst, and not the best. The movie seems to cram 2 movies worth of story into 1 movie. A lot of things where happening and there was not explanation to any of it. People where just showing up places, events where happening back to back to back. There was no breathing room in this movie. It feels as if JJ Abrams had plans for 7-9 and when he didn't get to do 8, he crammed 8 with 9 in the same movie. Splitting this movie into 2 would have made it much better. It's unfortunate that JJ just didn't get the entire trilogy, would have made for a better passed and coherent trilogy. On to the story, spoilers obviously. The return of palpetine felt unnatural, like if someone killed of the big bad guy in the last film *cough* *cough*. No explanation to it, just here he is barely alive controlling everything from the shadows. It felt like it kind of interrupted Anikins redemption and fulfilling the prophesy as the chosen one. This could have been mended if Ben was the one to kill the emperor, but I did still appreciate his redemption. Although it would have been nice to see Ben and Rey alive at the end.
The summarize, a very rushed movie with a lot of missed potential. Not the worst Star Wars movie, but definitely not the best.

Technically flawless special effects, sound round and music placement and beautifull space locations. The sith planets feels as dark and hopeless as i would like to.

Unfortunetlly this movie has also terrible flaws. JJ ABrahms tries to remake all of the decisions made for part 8. This is not a flaw but the steps which need to be taken to fix the plot of ROTJ are way to much. The logic mistakes are so severe that they feel disrupting.
The characters are so overpowered they feel misplaced. The entire movie looks only into the past and the characters have no visions and targets in their lives.

I'm unsure if i rate it a 6 or 7. The flawless technical, sound and visual part is a 10 but the overpowered husks of characters in a weird plot puzzle are a 1.

Did I have a good time? Yes. Do I think this movie is good? No.

The sad thing is, this movie isn't the problem, The last Jedi is. Because the previous instalment completely ignored the setup that The Force Awakens did, Rise of Skywalker had to do a lot of cleanup, too much cleanup. The first half of this movie was great fun and I had a great time. But the second half is where the problem lies. Rey is too powerful, I won't spoil anything but her power level doesn't feel earned. She should have spend the entire previous movie training, we only get a glimpse of training during this movie.

The current metascore is a 5.7. In my opinion the movie deserves a 6.5. But absolutely not a 7 so my metascore is a 6. Go see it if you want to know how it ends, I'm happy I went, it was fun. But do not expect anything groundbreaking.

But anyway, this film was no exception for my high distaste of these newest films. Rushed and half-baked plot points, severe mishandling of beloved and classic characters (some very obvious de-aging and stunt doubling used for Carrie Fisher towards the end, rest her soul), forced dialogue/moments, and very obvious fan service are abundant in this final film on the trilogy, even more so than in the already weak two previous films before this one. It's as if JJ Abrams felt the need to try and cater to everybody by going way too overboard on the fan service and predictability, as well as trying to tie everything up in a nice little bow as much as possible, which just didn't work for me. It came across more like an overly eager fanboy directing this rather than JJ Abrams most of the time. Furthermore, it follows the plot arcs and tropes of so many previous films in the series, most notably Return of the Jedi in very predictable fashion. Granted, it's got its exciting moments, but the cons really do outweigh the pros here for me. Overall, what was already a very weak and unnecessary trilogy for me couldn't have ended in a more painfully forced, obvious, and predictable way. Most of this is really nothing we haven't seen before. Expand

It was too on the nose and lacked ambition because of it.
Now this movie ist far from perfect, but it was enjoyable at times. The conclusion is about as good as it could have been after the disaster thst was TLJ. The humor in this was also quite good and most jokes landed. Overall the movie was rushed, course corrected heavy handedly and relied solely on nostalgia to get people back on board, forgetting a good story in the process.

There's things to like and things to not like about this movie. Overall, I'd say this movie was not good, but I don't blame Abrams. This movie really should have been broken up into two movies. You can tell that there was at least 1-2 hours of footage that was cut from the film because some scenes don't make any sense or have any context. The visuals and score are great, but the plot just feels completely disjointed and rushed. This was especially evident when the action was happening and I felt nothing. No excitement or thrill. They "yadda yadda'd" over some really important details.

The lightsaber battles kinda fell flat for me as well. There was one fight, in particular (won't spoil it), that felt completely choreographed. In movies, action sequences are supposed to feel organic and natural, but this particular lightsaber battle was slow bland. They kept going through the same two motions until the battle was over. It was very unsatisfying. Most of the new characters introduced in this film just felt out of place in the plot. It's like they were shoehorned into the movie just for the sake of it. However, there was one new character that I did enjoy for his comedic relief.

Overall, trying to erase TLJ is not any easy task. I felt Abrams had the deck stacked against him with trying to rewrite characters after TLJ, as well as having to deal with Leia's plot after the death of Carrie Fisher. Unfortunately, the movie results in a mess of plotholes and WTF moments that really don't pay off. I will say the one character they got right was Kylo Ren. He was probably the most developed character in the new trilogy. Other than that, I walked out of the theater feeling very disappointed. Maybe if JJ had directed all 3 movies, this trilogy would've been much better. But, as it stands, this movie gets a 5 out of 10 from me. Not a good movie, but also not the worst movie.

SPOILER SECTION

Things I didn't like:

They failed to explain HOW Palpatine came back. We were just supposed to accept the first sentence in the screen crawl.

Rey is a god. There's nothing she can't do, and that makes her character boring. I don't care that she is a woman, the reason a lot of people don't like her is because she really has no struggle arc. She can do anything with little effort. She can now heal using the force (where did she learn how to do that? Leia?). In one scene, she is able to force pull an entire transport ship! This movie (and really the whole trilogy) completely undermined Anakin's saga. Why was Palpatine alive? It's like Vader died for nothing. Speaking of Palpatine, I hated how he was able to lay lowkey for all of these years but somehow amassed an army of 10,000 star destroyer ships. And how was he able to lift these ships in the air?? Then, in the last battle, he is able to shoot force lightning in the air. Not only is he able to control the lightning to hit only the resistance ships, but the lightning isn't actually destroying any ships. It's basically a glorified EMP that jams their signal and causes then to lose power. Miraculously, even though they were in the atmosphere, none of the resistance ship fell to the ground and got destroyed when they lost power.

I also didn't like how Palpatine kept using his force lightning against Rey when she was clearly deflecting it back at him. Why didn't he just stop using it?

The Chewie "death" scene was a terrible "gotcha" moment. We are to believe he died when Rey blew up the ship, but I didn't buy it for once second. And sure enough, Chewie was alive because he was actually on a second transport ship (which I don't remember seeing). There's a scene where the crew is taking out stormtroopers with blasters. They are "killing" fully armored stormtroopers with one blast. However, shortly after, Poe gets shot by a stormtrooper. With no armor, Poe is only knocked down momentarily before getting back up.

Don't get me started on the Knights of Ren. They were nothing more than a waste of potential. Hux being the mole just didn't land with me. And the way it was revealed was too goofy.

Rey kissing Kylo felt EXTREMELY out of place. I was just looking at the screen trying to figure out where that came from. I get that they had a force link, but I didn't think that Rey was actually falling in love with a guy that murdered hundreds of resistance soldier, killed his dad, tried to kill his uncle and attempted to kill his mother. There were way too many Macguffins, even for a Star Wars movie.

Things I liked:

Baboo Frik (spelling?) was the only new character I liked. The scene with Han and Ben Solo was great. Probably the best scene in the movie for me.

Chewie's emotional screams after Leia died.

Finn back to be force-sensitive after completely being disregarded in TLJ.

All of the past jedi calling out to Rey, even though it would've been better if they were force ghosts.

In terms of storyline, it suffers from a breathless, rushed pace (it’s as if the movie was on Red Bull), random and unnecessary characters (do we really need brand new characters in the final chapter?), occasional lazy writing and lazy plot choices, and a failure to achieve the same emotional weight as the original six films. ROS ultimately reveals the flaws of the sequel trilogy - its inconsistency, its scattered agenda, its bewildering twists and turns that leave you scratching your head. The original six was a much cleaner, much more powerful story - the last three films muddy the waters. However, I appreciate the challenge these three films - flawed and uneven as they are - present to the Star Wars universe. ROS still manages to thrill despite its weaker elements; and while its existence is not necessary, and may feel like overkill, it still provides an entertaining-enough ride for the viewer - offering an at times enjoyably dark venture into the powerful mythology. However tighter we would have wanted this film and trilogy to be plot-wise, tone-wise, character-wise, it makes sense that it creates such a mess. The galaxy is big, the Force is confusing, the players are many, and just like in our own world there are contradictions and complexities. It may not be the Star Wars we know and love, but when you hear that music and see that opening scroll, you still feel like you’re home. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My maybe unpopular Star Wars opinion (contains mild spoilers):

It started out strong. I thought to myself "Okay the critics are wrong I'm going to like this thing." However, all my predictions came true. Everything from TLJ was retconned. But who the hell cares? I hated everything from that movie anyway. Nevertheless, the damage done by Rian Johnson in TLJ was irreparable. In addition, LucasFilm's lack of artistic vision was on full display. There was NEVER a plan for a coherent trilogy.

In comparison, how could Kevin Fiege craft a coherent throughline over 23 MCU films? Yet Kathleen Kennedy couldn't craft a coherent vision in 3?

While the film had competent set-pieces the story was cobbled together. Furthermore, the list of things the Force could do became as long and as incredulous as the powers of the Golden Age Superman. Telekinesis, force lightning, precognition, limited flight, telepathy, astral projection, and now resurrection? Give me a break.

That being said it was s decent recovery from Rian Johnson's hack job. If this were a lesser franchise I could forgive its numerous sins and overuse of both plot device and plot armor. Nevertheless, it was so bad that only a fifth of the people I was in the theater with even clapped at the end.

Here is hoping Bob Iger and the Disney company examine the successes of the MCU and apply those lessons learned to the next series of Star Wars films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm left with one question after seeing Rise of Skywalker... Did this Trilogy add or progress the Skywalker story in anyway?  I think not. It felt like a reboot of the redemption theme of the Original Trilogy. Been there, done that. What else can you show me? To me, Star Wars is more spiritual than its scientific cousin Star Trek, that underneath it all was a force, ever present, which had a purpose, for those who truly listened.  However, these are those who seek power at the expense of others, a power that is short lived by our own mortality along with the destructive consequences caused by its wake.   In the end, the force, like nature, finds a way to balance these selfish consequences.  The original trilogy felt organic, human, without all the explanations and McGuffins. It's a simple plot about a son who wanted to redeem his father. The force found balance in the end with Anakin's sacrifice. This new trilogy felt more spiritual than the prequels, but told us that Anakin didn't matter, that his redemption and sacrifice didn't resolve anything.   I guess, from a certain point of view, history has a way of repeating itself, that those who forget the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat it.  Maybe that's what the new trilogy was going for thematically speaking?  They tried but failed.

The new trilogy didn't feel like a cohesive story, that is a common opinion I read about and I agree.   The whole "Who is Rey" issue bothered me. They drew this issue out to long. Should we have called it the Rise of Palpatine? Its like they were to focused on recreating the star wars twist, plugging the diversity checklist than telling a emotional story.  Palpatine's return didn't work for me – at least in the way it was presented.   TFA setup Snoke, TLJ killed him off and added nothing to the main plot, ROS pretty much said the original trilogy didn't matter by bringing back Emperor Palpatine suddenly and without explanation or context. The ROS threw to much at you, no room to process, no room for the characters themselves to react and process. It was more tell than show, very prequel-esq of JJ.  However, I do like Rey, Finn and Poe, just didn't like the story these characters played in.  What could have been done better thematically with this new Trilogy while ending the whole Saga with a Bang? Keep the Saga about Anakin Skywalker. Prequels were about Anakin's fall. Original Trilogy about Anakin's redemption. New Trilogy should have been about his/her ressuerection and sacrifice to save his family, the galaxy and the force. Here's my fix: Ben was kidnapped at young age along with destruction of Lukes Academy, Luke dissapears trying to find him, First Order reveals itself led by Snoke. Years later Rey "Awakens" throughout the trilogy and reveals that shes Anakin Skywalker reincarnated by the third film (why shes so powerful).  As for the Big Bad, the Jedi live on through the force, Anakin was so powerful that he was reborn as Rey, the Sith live on by possessing the bodies of the living or Clones. However, we find that Clone possession is short-lived and the Sith needs a living body (Snoke is this Clone). Which leads to the Sith Rule of two. The reason for this Rule is so the Master can take over the body of his apprentice when the apprentice kills him through hatred. The Big Bad, spiritually speaking, is Darth Sidious who has survived for over a millennia. Luke saves Ben by sacrificing himself, killing Snoke, in the second movie. Sidious is reborn in another Snoke body.  In the end, Rey and Ben fight Sidious/Snoke. Rey tricks Sidious to possess her, she sacrifices herself and dissappears into the force, taking this ancient sith spirit with her for good. Fill in the blanks with plot points that lead to the above.  This is one way to make the trilogy more cohesive, respect the old characters and keep it about Anakin Skywalker – that the Evil of Sidious went deeper than you or any of the characters originally thought,  That the force is finally balanced, that Anakin was the chosen one, that the force created Anakin/Rey to balance the imbalance by Darth Sidious. The imbalance, you see, wasn't about Light and Dark, Jedi an Sith, it is more about Life and Death – Sidious tried to beat Death and the expense of others. And it would have set the overall universal, human theme that death is part of life, it's a transformation to the unknown, that life continues on, that it's okay to let go.

My one little overall trilogy treatment above is one example of what Disney should of done in the first place - a roadmap for the entire trilogy.  You know what I liked about the original trilogy?  As a kid it felt more adult, real, human - not a comic book or cartoon.    Guess will have to wait 30 years for a remake.   But the truth is, the people behind this trilogy made millions on nostalgia and a first draft movie trilogy.

Star Wars:Right off the bat, this is a better film than The Last Jedi. However, this isn't saying much since that movie was a complete pile of garbage from a film and story telling perspective, as well as being part of the Star Wars lore. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still a bad movie that barely borders on being passable.

For being the ending to this incredibly schizophrenic trilogy, it does very little to answer or resolve much, and as many others have stated, this feels like two films Frankensteined into one movie. No doubt this was to try and fix many of the issues that The Last Jedi created, however the repairs to the lore, story, and characters were not only insufficient for the most part, but really too late to do any real good. You will still wonder why the hell Rey is so gifted and powerful, you still will wonder how Palpatine came back from Return of the Jedi, and you still won't know who the Resistance is or the First Order by the end of this film. These unanswered questions, and many more, just add to the confusion of a movie that jumps around so much in terms of editing and story that you'd be forgiven for not knowing what's going on a times.

Visually the Rise of Skywalker is a pretty film, with a lot of dramatic, epic shots. The lightsaber battles are decent, the CGI and special effects look good for the most part, and there was a great deal of care and attention given to props and set pieces throughout. It is these Oooos and Ahhhs that will keep many audience member's distracted from the films many shortcomings, but they are worth praising for the most part. In the audio department John Williams score is among his most unremarkable to date, however it still is decent enough and compliments the story and action on the screen.

As a casual movie goer, you will probably think The Rise of Skywalker is at worst a fairly boring, somewhat confusing film, especially if you've been keeping up with Disney's Trilogy. As a diehard Star Wars fan though, you will likely dislike this movie to some degree given how badly it fails at making sense of anything this trilogy has set up. Its claim to be the end of the "Skywalker Saga" makes this all the more confusing as watching the Return of the Jedi seems to have been the true end to the saga, while The Rise of Skywalker just feels superfluous and tacked on for the sake of making money and bating people's nostalgia for the original trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker is a bad movie, and an even worse Star Wars movie. However, it does pass as lowbrow entertainment and something casual viewers might enjoy for being the big holiday blockbuster. Just don't expect this film to give a satisfying conclusion to Disney's sequel trilogy, and especially not to the "Skywalker Saga" which ended in 1983.

Every flash and turn Episode 9 makes feels wrong and incoherent. Overly rushed, and wrapping up a story that never really got going unfortunately, it results in one cheesy final act comparable to Jurassic Park III. The movie isn't a joke, but it thinks it is. I'll give it credit for some visual sequences that dispel cinematic wonder and a tone that J.J. Abrams brings which reignites a life in this trilogy, but everything from the characters to the plot just felt out of sorts. Not a good movie, and perhaps makes more sins than it thinks it's correcting. Poor writing in this one. Expand

Well, everything, it was clearly the last straw, it did not cause such a burning sensation as episode 8, but it causes a feeling of shame, the level of which is not inferior to burning from episode 8.
The plot, as it were, is, but it's just an ice hole in the fishless.
Everyone can wave their hands at the characters, although I personally did it on the 8th episode. On the screen, there is such a bacchanalia of absurdity and idiocy that from all this you start to giggle, and then more and more, as if your dentist got the balloons and gave Nitric Oxide. And I was not the only one there, in the hall some were also in shock.
With the technical part this time, too, everything is not all right, “Avengers: Final” this year is a clear leader and all the forces were cast on them.
Regarding the location, everything is rotten again, and again this F***** desert ...
John Williams made his most boring and sterile soundtrack, apart from the film he does not go at all.
Well, this is a ban. Oh ... That is 5/10 (146).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A late-teens fan of the 1977 original, I was tired by this episode (I'm obviously getting old). Tired by the exhausting "action without relief"; tired of the mind-dialogue between Rey and Ren; and tired by the habit of simply reversing and reanimating to suit the plot (though less bothered by the reappearance of Leia than some reviewers).

I won't deny that some of the spectacle was impressive, and if someone tries to reanimate Palpatine in any future film, they'll have some explaining to do, so comprehensive was his demise. What made it worth a 6 was the overall rounding up of the story and the very human ending (instead of the customary militarised ceremony). All that love and happiness on display made for a warm conclusion to a hardware-heavy epic.

The big battle was lame. Overall plot was extremely weak. The story line was weak. The movie tries to give a you a little bit of each character and you wind up not caring about any of them. Action is chaotic and lacks the fluidity and/or simplicity of the original movies. Started OK, but after a while I was wondering when it was all going to end and couldn't wait for the closing credits. This will be another Star Wars movie I forget. Expand

This movie barely succeeds because of Rey and Kylo/Ben. Their story has always been the best parts of the sequel trilogy. The Emperor is brought in for some unknown stupid reason and it never makes any sense but I had fun in the moment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was very enjoyable but just doesn't live up to the hype. Rey's character just wasn't very interesting and I thought she was really boring at times. Hated how they would "kill" off characters just to bring them back, made the real deaths in the film lose some of there touch, because you don't know what to believe. The lightsaber fights were not very good as they just looked incredibly slow, and ironically the fights ended really quickly. However, the visuals were amazing and the acting was rather nice. I enjoyed kylo ren in this film as he was a very intimidating villian (for the first half of the film). C3PO was amazing and carried the first half of the film in my opinion.

Overall I thought it was a great film for new starwars fans however not to the old fans.(although some parts and throwback were enjoyable for the old fans).

:) This was just my opinion however it might change overtime.

It's not as bad as The last Jedi, but almost. Don't waste your time watching it.

There were hardly any serious moments or reveals that amounted to anything worthwhile. There were definitely some funny moments but with the amount of plot holes and little background explanation to how most of the characters were "developed", this movie can only be seen as a comedy in my eyes, which is sad considering what Star Wars actually is. A very average movie amongst the many other movies that came out this year. Expand

NOT THE RIGHT DIRECTOR!... Very fast like i watch burger movie, easy classic american time to spend. It felt like the whole movie was 20 minutes. Wrong approach of the '' power '' of the Star Wars story.

It pays the audience the courtesy of assuming their grotesque stupidity while throwing visual eye candy on screen to distract the masses. As a movie it’s the equivalent of a laser pointer for a cat.

An entertaining movie full of lightsaber duels, blasterfire, and spacebattles. I.e filling the minimum requirements of a star wars movie. The saga is wrapped up in a good way.
However, the movie uses a lot of subversion that doesnt work since everything that happens in this movie is extremely predictable. After seeing one scene you can nine out of ten times guess what happens in the next scene just from the establishing shot, which removes any suspense.
