This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While with a nice concept and an excellent director, the ninth installment of the Star wars franchise has a lot of plot issues, like the thing Poe and Finn wanted to say, but no one heard even at the end of the movie.
If the script was a little bit more polished, this could have been the best movie form the series Overall a decent film.

Has a fun adventure. For me, everything to do with the Emperor is how many fans felt about Luke in Ep 8. The weakest of its trilogy. Anticlimactic and kind of flat.

And even when the movie ended (finally), I was still confused about what the point of it was. You had to see it to believe it, but everyone in this movie possessed superpowers that could rival Superman's, and they were all on the move, looking for artefacts and heading somewhere. The upcoming films better be a bit different or even take some inspiration from the old films as there was nothing really wrong with them. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A film all in all beautiful but disappointing if you look at the rest of the saga. There are enough moments of action and twists throughout the film but there are too many letes that almost fall asleep, then it's all very repetitive and most things seem already seen and others don't really have their heads. The special effects and acting are two wonderful aspects but the plot is perhaps a little disappointing. Expand

Expand

The story is not fitting to the Star Wars universe and is ridiculous sometimes, so I didnt take it seriously (another dead character is living again lol). In addition the actors are average, especially Rey is annoying,: no, I dont want to see her teeth all the time and no, I dont want so see Finn screaming. But all these problems were not that severe as in episode 7 and 8, thats why I like this one the most of the 3 movies. And sometimes the movie was even good.
Music was annoying, because cliche music was always running.
Visually the movie was good.

The action scenes were quite entertaining and at the time I was moved but the narrative did not seem the best.
This trilogy seems like the typical project that everyone does at home and at school they put it together to see what happens.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite having some decent performances, good special effects, the occasional cool-looking fights, and the same iconic Stars Wars theme music that plays throughout, The Rise of Skywalker has many flaws that are hard to ignore; Palpatine is suddenly alive again and a threat to our heroes despite having clearly been killed in the original trilogy because...the writers ran out of interesting villains to come up with? Rey can suddenly heal injured snakes with the force now because...magic looked cool in Harry Potter? Rey and Kylo suddenly kiss at the end because...every movie needs to have some romance in it? Lots of things just happen without any viable explanation or build-up purely to shock the audience. Still, it's definitely not the worst movie I've seen (I've seen much worse). But there's not a whole lot of positive things I can say about this messy, muddled story. Expand

My main problem with TRoS is even when this is really not good movie,
completely doesn't work as a final for nine movie saga.
Instead of that - yeah this is just not good movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Wars: Episode IX is the first movie I learnt of with my senses and knowledge of Star Wars intact. Just before this movie was coming I watched all the previous movies so that I could catch up before this movie came. I wasn't born until The Phantom Menace, I didn't know anything about the other movies since I used to think Star Wars is only a cartoon, then when The Force Awakens came I had my board exams going on. And The Last Jedi was getting so much hate I thought Star Wars is just another franchise being done to death like Jurassic Park or The Matrix. So overall saying, this is the first Star Wars movie that I knew how to react on when it released. And that was definitely not a good reaction.
So first of all my problem is with how "convenient" the plot twists are. How on earth are the plot twists done so badly that there doesn't seem to be anything at stake! Rey and friends are getting sucked in sand, the animal inside is friendly. C3PO's memory gets formatted, R2D2 restores it. They don't know where to go, Rey just holds her knife and COMPARES IT WITH THE SURROUNDINGS AND FINDS HER WAY!?! And no, I'm not even getting to the dozen things that happened when she had to defeat Palpatine. Nothing matters in this movie for that matter. What happened to Rey becoming evil? What happened to the rebels on the planet where C3PO's memory was formatted? They were never brought up again.
The movie completely massacred everything that Star Wars stands for. I think the problem with all the sequel movies is that they are pandering to a much, much younger generation. Anything that could have been a little too mature was probably thrown out of the window by Mickey Mouse, because then how will the little girls from Middle East have Rey dolls if she did something mature like Luke and Anakin? Palpatine came back to life only so that Rey could smash him again and show how strong and smart she is. Ben Solo died only because he was trying to save Rey for some reason, even though he has Jedi powers so he could have just moved her out of the path. No culture, lifestyle, important character, backstory - nothing happened in here. It was just picking up on the disaster that Episode VIII was.
And the worst part in the entire movie was when Rey took, or rather should I say, STOLE the Skywalker surname. What even was that scene? The way Luke and Leia were standing in the sky, they looked like her parents. The second worst for me would be the Rey and Ben kissing scene. I don't know how to say this, but Rey has a very sister-like look to her. Why would Ben ever do that? But of course, not everything is bad about Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Palpatine. Like I said before, it has a really awesome CGI, probably the best in the entire Star Wars franchise. The cinematography was also very good. The background score added to the intensity.
And the best part - it's the last movie of the sequel trilogy. Finally this thing ended. We don't have to watch any more of Rey Palpatine anymore. I'm glad I've watched every single Star Wars movie now, so I have been able to catch up with the trend and now I can talk to anyone about Star Wars whenever the topic comes up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Rise of Skywalker was underwhelming but not horrible. Rey is revealed to be Emperor Palpatine’s granddaughter which I thought was forced (no pun intended) and not very believable. Oh yeah, Palpatine’s back because he had himself cloned or some s**t. Kylo Ren is back and troubled as always and has some sort of forced romance with Rey which is also not very convincing. The black guy and Han Solo rip off are up to their usual hijinks and don’t really do anything notable. The visuals are the movie’s strong suit. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Were they not as good as the original trilogy? Of course but I think it is safe to say that it will take ALOT for those movies to be topped. However I went into The Rise Of Skywalker with a bit of a small expectation. I knew the movie was not going to be fantastic but the way this movie was advertised as the "Finale to the Skywalker Saga" gave me somewhat a BIT of hope. Instead, What I feel we got was two separate movies rolled together into one. The first half seemed to be "Damage Control" to the previous movie (By this I mean trying to fix what people were not happy about) and the second half felt more like a rush to get to the end. It is a shame because so many people are invested into this story as they have fond memories of it from childhood. That's not to say the movie is terrible as I don't think it is but it is easily the worst in the sequel trilogy (In my opinion) It felt like there was no main story flowing through these movies but instead different ideas just thrown in together and putting the "Star Wars" Name on it to make some money. Abrams returned to Episode IX, who was already in charge of Episode VII, which he succeeded in because he went to safety. This is no longer the case with Episode IX, and unfortunately he didn't quite succeed here. Overall, the story is a bit like Episode VI, but that's not quite a problem. I don't want to spoiler, but the main problem here is mainly how bad some scenes are. The characters are already dead all of a sudden, and overall it doesn't work and it's not exactly the best story. The effects are excellent, as always with Star Wars movies and music as well, and in the end it's a good movie, but it doesn't end the saga very well. After the amazing Episode VII, which copied Episode IV, and the excellent Episode VIII, which came up with something completely new, here we have Episode IX, which throws dirt on the Star Wars trilogy and destroyed everything it built over the years. Unfortunately, I still have to hold the opinion that Episode VII should never have occurred. Expand

The revelations made in this movie are nothing short of comical. Be it Rey's lineage, Leia's Jedi training or the cringe-inducing re-emergence of Palpatine, everything is just wrong and poorly executed.
I don't hold Disney responsible. Its the writers and director.
I'm genuinely saddened by how this turned out, it could have been amazing. Why not let Rey take the throne and throw the galaxy into chaos, why make the "Big Bad" the same guy from the parts I through VI? Its just lazy, its safe and its lazy.
I'm glad I finally got around to watching it but it was a massive let down in every way you can possibly imagine.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy where do I begin? This is a terrible movie somehow I rated Matrix Revolutions higher than this. Let's get started:

1) Palpatine What was the point in bringing him back, no explanation except: Somehow Palpatine returned. That is actually a line of dialogue in the movie. 2) Retconing TLJ
Now I absolutely loved TLJ and Rian Johnson direction with the franchise and we get no explanation why it is no longer canon it just is by the time the film begins. Everything in TLJ is just thrown away for the sake of crybaby fanboys who didn't like Luke in TLJ and a whole mess of fan service. 3) Kylo Ren TLJ gave us an amazing arc for Kylo Ren killing Snoke off proclaiming he's done with having a master, becoming free from any judgment by an authority figure was all great and what do they decide to do with that storyline? NOTHING, absolutely nothing. His master is now Palpatine all the story built from TLJ is all gone!

4) Fan Service Earlier I said that this film was full of unnecessary Fan Service, let's get started:
-Luke's character in TLJ is gone
-The Death Star is somehow in great shape -Han is back
-Lando is back with no explanation -TLJ is gone from Canon (Biggest fan service of them all)
-Rey is a Skywalker -And a whole lot more

5) The Ending At the end of the movie Rey goes back to Tatooine where Luke and Anakin were raised with Anakin/Luke and Leia's lightsaber in her hand and buries the lightsabers IN THE SAND that's right she buries the lightsabers in the SAND on the planet that they hated in the thing Anakin hated the most! Basically Rey gave a middle finger to Anakin and Luke and then she says she is a Skywalker!!! WTH!!!

6) J J Abrams Oh man J J Abrams one of my favorite directors (I'm being sarcastic) the man single handedly destroyed the two biggest space franchises in just 10 years. 10 YEARS!! That's got to be a world record. 7) This is the ending to Star Wars
Return of the Jedi was a triumphant ending to the original trilogy and 6 film saga, sure it fell short on The Empire Strikes Back but it still was a good film this however is a frustrating and terrible ending to a 40 Year franchise. There is no payoff at the end and it ultimately feels like a Disney crapped in the franchise right before our eyes. Truly disappointing ending and a disgrace to this once wonderful franchise

Overly rushed, and wrapping up a story that never really got going unfortunately, it results in one cheesy final act comparable to Jurassic Park III. The movie isn't a joke, but it thinks it is. I'll give it credit for some visual sequences that dispel cinematic wonder and a tone that J.J. You have 40 years of cinematic history with complicated arcs and deep themes based on the world mythology, and a multibillion-dollar company with enough resources to hire the best screenwriters in the industry, and they ended up with a story where a bunch of undeveloped characters chase a thing to find another thing that will give them access to a bad guy who came from nowhere to kill him with a lightsaber. And the editing... I watched this movie in a theater, and it gave me a real headache. The camera never stops floating around, the characters talk fast and constantly scream, scenes replace each other so rapidly that you do not have time to realize what happened in the previous one, as in the next they already managed to introduce and withdraw a new character. In general, this film feels like a trailer of a few seasons of a TV show, and this is not an exaggeration. I don't know what went wrong with the production, especially after the JJ's Force Awakens which I liked (not loved but liked), but this new trilogy was a huge waste of a potential. And it's just sad. New information is thrown at you with no repose, character arcs are either self-contradictory, or completely non-existent, and it's score, while amazing, has some questionable placement throughout the run-time of the movie. Even it's message isn't well-executed. For a movie trying to be about not letting your background or history define you, all I have learned is that in the Star Wars universe, you don't matter unless you're either a Skywalker or Palpatine, and that your roots are all-consuming. This film serves as a lesson as to what happens when you create a trilogy without a plan, and obsess over trying to address criticisms of its predecessor. Expand

I liked the visuals, special effects, characters, dialogue (for a Star Wars film), and the emotions effectively evoked. There were more supernatural scenes, rather than feeling too sci-fi only. The villain felt like a real villain unlike Snoke and Kylo Ren (in the first film). They toned down the obvious US identity politics references found in the last 2 films, especially the first (where they made the Final Order affiliated people all pale looking white dudes, in this film there are more PoC and women, which is actually more realistic IRL). However, as often mentioned in the critical reviews, too many things that happen seem completely unrealistic even in the SW universe and not in line with the rules established in the original 6 films. It's like they didn't even try. The amount of assumed deaths and resurrections that happened was ridiculous. Having to save the universe in like a day with all these variables at play AND the Final Order being absurdly advantaged in terms of strength, like hundreds of star / planet destroyer ships, sure. At times it looks like the final battle is happening in space and other times closer to the surface of the planet, if the former, the hero characters on the exterior of the FO ships would have died as they had no space protective equipment on. More time should have been given to Kylo Ren after he turned. Expand

You don’t have the gaping plot holes or downright idiocy we witnessed in The Last Jedi, and there are no random casino scenes or important characters getting killed like they’re just Star Trek red shirts, but this movie really suffers from trying to do too much at once. It’s like they were trying to play damage control after the mess Rían Johnson left behind, offer the obligatory fan service, and still write a compelling story. Unfortunately, that means the movie is really disjointed, frantic, and somewhat difficult to follow. There are a lot of “well, that was convenient” moments or scenes where you’re left scratching your head and saying, “How did they know to do that?”
It wasn’t all bad. The effects are good, the actors manage to look like they’re holding it together (which is more than can be said for the prequel trilogy), and they really do wrap up the story in a semi-satisfactory way. In particular, the last few minutes of the movie are probably the finest moments of the film, but the two hours leading up to it often feel more like Michael Bay tried to make a movie about a Picasso painting of Star Wars: you recognize what you’re seeing, but nothing is quite where you think it belongs, there’s an awful lot going on, and everything must inevitably explode.

Where the original trilogy felt like the singular creative vision of one man assisted by many and prone to happy accidents, this trilogy feels like a fads love letter that devolves into just the worst kind of Twitter argument. And THAT leads to one of the only things I think both fans and haters of TLJ can agree on - - that what this trilogy lacked more than anything else was a strong creative direction. In terms of story, character, and tone, it just seems that the this trilogy a missing a certain Feigi-ness. What JJ did in this movie is essentially ignore 90% of what was set up in TLJ and spend the first half of this movie setting up the movie he wanted to make, throwing in occasional, more obvious jabs at TLJ throughout seemingly to appease and service all the fans that felt so wronged by it. I think some people that hated TLJ will love this film for doing that but to me it just comes off as inconsistent storytelling. Now to focus in on specifically this movie...

I think, with the first half of this movie, JJ and the other co-writers in this film fell into an issue that many video game quest lines suffer from: McGuffin Russian Doll. Meaning that throughout the movie the characters were tracking down an object that led to another object, that led to a new character, etc. From my perspective, it amounts to making excuses to take your characters to new location after new location. And it is that faux pas in storytelling device selection that I think accelerated the pacing to a point of ridiculousness. Moments that should have hit like a train were give no time to breath. Character motivations, trials, and tribulations were skipped through like Netflix's 1.5x viewing speed feature was turned on. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of moments I enjoyed in that first half, but truly, almost everything just felt rushed for that whole first half of the film. I do think the second half caught itself a bit, but without the fleshed out setup that was required of the first half, everything I liked about the second half was somewhat dulled. Without the context of the trilogy, I actually lean ever so slightly towards liking this film. But with that context (which cant be ignored) I'm much more on the fence about it. I enjoyed the ride while I was on it, but after taking some time to think about how this final piece fits into the puzzle that is the Skywalker saga, I'm a bit disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Technically it's not as bad as rogue one or last jedi etc. It is politicized but what's funny that's not what makes it bad. What makes it bad is just that it's a bad movie where main character is flawless to the bone and nothing can ever stop her. Everyone else have absolutely nothing to offer and there are no shades of Grey. You can just support the only possible choice or die.

. And you see i even know why it's like that. Reason is because it is atargetted as a movie with a clear message for the kids. There can't be any unambiguous messages for children viewers to challenge the status quo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came in with piss poor expectations because I read the leaks. Yeah they’re all true. But for whatever reason, TROS didn't leave me with as bad of a taste in my mouth as TLJ did. Maybe it's the details that aren't outlined in the leaks. Maybe it's the erasure of a lot of TLJ's mistakes. Or maybe the chemistry the cast has built up for each other shone through. Whatever it was, I came out of the theater feeling better than I expected. I would say TROS sticks the landing, but breaks its leg in the process. It’s not a movie without flaws, and it has many, but it's tolerable on its own as the end of the sequels. This mediocre cash grab trilogy ends in a whimper, as expected. But since they forced this movie to also wrap up all 9 Episodes of the Star Wars saga, it does a bad job of concluding everything in totality.

The Good: John Williams kicks butt, as always. He really makes you feel more intimate with the scenes. The graphics are amazing as well -- a staple of any modern Star Wars film. Ian McDiarmid knocks his role out of the park and really gives you a haunted house monster kind of feeling. More on him later though. In terms of narrative, TROS tries to undo a lot of the damage caused by TLJ, so you can really think of this as a sequel to TFA. Rey actually being a somebody, or clarifying that Luke was actually doing something important on Ach-To was something that needed to happen, in my book. I didn’t like TFA, but it drew our attention to those possibilities on purpose only for TLJ to throw them away without any payoff. So at least we get some answers to things we were forced to pay attention to early on. TROS treats the characters we know and love with more respect than TLJ. Luke is still dead, but he's more or less back to normal and makes subtle jabs at his own poor portrayal in TLJ. Finn actually gets stuff done for once without referencing his mopping skills or being the butt of a joke. These are just a few things that I believe were much needed corrections. But the details of some of these changes aren't done well and end up harming the movie.

The Bad: The movie has a lot of issues. And many are universe-breaking issues. Pacing is **horrible** during the first half of the movie. If I didn’t read the leaks beforehand, I would have been totally lost. There was just too much information crammed into one movie, many of it involved giving hand wavy explanations to things shot down in TLJ, then moving along before you can think about it. If they weren't going to do it well, they should have left it alone. Narratively, Palpatine was clearly a hail mary that I wish they explained, because it undercuts Vader’s sacrifice in Ep 6. It’ll probably be explained in a book for extra Di$ney bucks or something. Rey's lineage reveal was expected, as I said earlier. But the answer they gave had no buildup at all because it's clear Palpatine was never considered for this story until recently. Subsequently, Rey choosing to be a Skywalker fell flat and I don't agree with it, considering she had parents who cared about her and she barely knows the Skywalkers outside of 1 year with Leia. They should have either left her a Palpatine or made her an actual Skywalker from the start -- don't sit on the fence. The love story with Rey and Ben is also pretty cringe, considering he tried to kill her multiple times and I just feel like it’s a very toxic dynamic that has no business being on screen. Force heal and resurrection is a can of worms they should have left in video games, in my opinion, because it breaks the universe in a similar way hyperspace ramming did. And lastly, I thought the Final Order had a convenient weakness that felt cheap. Really you can eliminate all of those ISDs by blowing up one? Lol.

In summary, I think this is may be the best movie of the ST, but this isn't saying much. It's not an *obvious*, beat by beat rip off of the OT like TFA was. And it isn't mean-spirited to the audience like TLJ was. Abrams didn't really have anywhere to go, considering where TLJ left off. But Abrams did too much, too poorly. The ST as a whole is, without a doubt, worse than the prequels. 1) There's no overall story connecting all 3 movies together, so it's a very disjointed experience in terms of tone and narration. 2) To varying degrees, all three movies reused the plots of each of the OT movies, so there's a lack of creativity. 3) This trilogy is basically Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams undoing each other and the audience pays for it, further enraging an already divided fanbase. These failures fall squarely on Disney’s shoulders for a lack of leadership and vision. I'm just glad the Skywalker story can finally rest in peace. Our old friends have been abused for long enough. Now that the curtain is closed, it's clear George Lucas is really the only one who can do Star Wars right. His prequels had issues, but they had a soul. They had imagination, creativity and daring. These new movies don't have any of that.

Plot 5

After 42 years of Star Wars becoming a pop culture phenomenon in movie history, the Skywalker Saga is finally coming to an end with the final instalment of the sequel trilogy.

One year after the events of The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren (Driver) obtains a Sith wayfinder to trace the mysterious galaxy-wide broadcast by Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious (McDiarmid), who was thought to be dead at the end of the Galatic Civil War many years ago. Tracing the source, Kylo travel to the Exegol and finds the Sith Lord on lifes support. He then proceed to reveal everything about what he has been up to and vital information on Rey (Ridley).

While Rey continues her Jedi training under General Leia Organa, the Resistance learn about the same broadcast from a spy within the First Order. Using Luke Skywalker's notebook which have information on a Sith wayfinder, she join Chewbacca, Poe Dameron, Finn, BB-8 and C-3PO on a mission to locate a Sith wayfinder on Pasaana, which is suspected to be it's last location. As for Rey, she will face Kylo Ren once again and learning more truths about her past.

Unlike The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, I have a mixed feeling on The Rise of Skywalker. The good parts are there are many nostalgia and call-backs to previous Star Wars movies. The performances from the casts are simply amazing. Nothing too weird and bland. To me, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley are best part of the casts' performances. Both of them are great since the first instalment. John Boyega and Oscar Isaac did a great job too.

Unfortunately, those are the only good parts. There are more bad parts in this movie. Firstly, some of the characters introduced in the previous instalment are totally underused in this movie. Specifically, Domnhall Gleeson and Kelly Marie Tran whom they played General Hux and Rose Tico respectively, are not only underused but also barely in the movie and underdeveloped.

Next, the plot of the movie is sort of a rehash of Return of the Jedi. There many moments that are way too similar to that movie and make this movie lacked originality. J.J. Abrams made a mistake by doing the same method like he did with The Force Awakens, which a rehash of A New Hope. In addition, he placed too much on nostalgia and call-backs just to make the movie better and it failed. The movie also failed solve some of the previous unanswered questions that have been set up in the previous instalments.

The choice of using Darth Sidious as main antagonist is totally a waste if you asked me. Since Snoke was killed by Kylo Ren back in The Last Jedi, he should have been the main antagonist for the trilogy instead of Darth Sidious. This is definitely a wasted opportunity which could have make the movie and the sequel trilogy better.

Last but not least, the ending will be a minor controversial and some of you may or may not like it. While the movie is a mixed bag, it is still a good reason enough to go watch the movie at least to finally close the chapter of the Skywalker Saga.

The character Rey had first conquered me for his personality. In 2017 came Star Wars: The Last Jedi which divided the public and the critics. I had loved the ideas that the second movie brought me about the strength and deepening of the character Luke Skywalker. It made me vibrate in certain scenes and thrill in others. This ninth and final chapter brought the image of an unnecessary apology. They were so concerned about redeeming themselves with the public and the critics that they decided to throw away the topics presented in the second film and explain them again in a very simple and unstructured way. I didn't feel the emotion I think I should have felt. I couldn't feel like things the movie wanted me to feel. The epic feeling of an ending. It is sad to know that they decided to go back on some ideas instead of moving on and knowing how to develop them. I found this last chapter quite average and anticlimatic. Disappointing. Expand

There were a couple of nice surprises. The ending is in a dark murky planet that render the air and ground fights into a dark blue coloring. I found that choice visually horrible, especially when you put 3D into account. The acting is very good. The soundtrack is engaging. I give it a 65%. I think the ending visuals were a deception. Good film but not that great in certain areas. Second watch: The movie is good until they go to Exogol. That area of the film is just muddle in bad imagery, photography, coloring. It also lack total logic. It feels rushed and with magic solutions on the go. Horrible ending. Expand

The movie is just an incoherent mess of ideas, tropes and plots. Lacks any kind of nuance or sense, made purely for the "eye candy" effects and couple of sad/bittersweet moments. Yes Luke, Anakin, Yoda and many other characters were powerful but they also had flaws, personalities, they were able to make mistakes, lose, meanwhile Rey is an epitome of Mary Sue - infallible, incorruptible, all-powerful and completely unbelievable character. Rest of the cast is just "there" to literally hang around as replaceable support characters. Yes you could argue that everything in the movie can be explained by expanded universe, it even ties to Mandalorian, references books, games, comics but that doesn't make it any better - just more convoluted. At the same time the basics didn't change at all - it is still a simple "good vs evil" fairy tale in space which would've been fine if they weren't such cowards and took more risks with characters, made a coherent story spanning 3 movies and balanced pandering to fans with respect for the material. Disappointing. Expand

A lukewarm ending to a pretty lukeless movie

The best of the sequel trilogy finally ends off where we began, nowhere interesting... But visually stunning and C3-PO stole the show!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film does to The Last Jedi that The Last Jedi did to The Force Awakens. Tosses the story points from prior films like an unwanted lightsaber. To make matters worse, it unravels internal consistency. The actors do their best with what they are given. Adam Driver noticeably stands out as particularly good. However it isn't enough to keep me from feeling like the overlords were rushed and didn't pay attention. The final film should have been given time and been a labor of love, instead it feels like canned meat pulled from the microwave early and sprinkled with just enough talent to allow you to choke it down. But in general it's just a lot of wasted potential. Abrams could have done something with this story that utilized the existing plot and character, but instead he added a ton of new ones, spent most of the movie trying to "correct" fan outrage about things that happened in 'Last Jedi' and 'Solo Story'.

The last film in a nine film saga is completely episodic. What were they thinking? Still, production quality is still there and most of the actors do a good job. Anyone giving it a very low or high score isn't taking into account the inherit quality of it or the god awful writing decisions.

Abrams had the hard job to make something out of Rian Johnsons serious and numerous mistakes while also dealing with heavy studio interferences. The interferences alone made J. J. Abrams nearly quit according to rumours and he even said publicly that all The Rise of Skywalker critics were right. If I got it right they promised him that he could do what he wanted without interference and then fight him on all fronts. To be honest this makes it hard to rate. On one hand he delivered something truly great if you count in the circumstances and on the other hand the movie is still garbage but nearly nothing is his fault. The trilogy had no real story arc from beginning to end. It became a rag rug and ended as rag rug. He had to undo much of Rian Johnsons massacre of Star Wars in the beginning and give a satisfying conclusion. The first takes time away from the latter. But lets go to the movie. The story is weak with many plot holes and the return of a character who should not return because there is nothing in the prequel movies that points in this direction. There is nothing new for the characters. Rey still got demoted to Mary Sue, Finn and Poe are uninteresting and there are a lot of stupid decisions. I noticed that this does not help me or you. I don't know what to recommend. I would not watch this movie as fan but must admid that they tried their best. There is a lot better material out there. I recommend the Thrawn trilogy in books (Both the old and new) by Timothy Zahn. It would been the better trilogy if done without interference. Think about what Joss Whedon, the Russo brothers or Patty Jenkins could do with the material. Overall I will give credits to J. J. Abrams and a salute of respect for this but canot rate this higher than 4/10.. Expand

Stream to Big Screen, welcome back you are. This week we are reviewing the long awaited third film of the newest trilogy from the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. This movie reprises the roles of many of the cult classic’s favorites dating back to the 70s. But let’s get to the review.

Honestly, this movie is a letdown for the Disney/Lucasfilm’s brand. In a way this felt like the producers just going through the motions to end this neverending story. My sentiment is definitely heighten coming off of Disney’s other colossal film product, Avengers: Endgame, from this summer. You can’t “end” one properly and just let the other suffer. I’m not sure who dropped the ball on this but we had a movie where all of the stakes were on the line and it felt completely lifeless. We went from planet to planet, searching for their Maltese falcon that will save us… just to realize we have to find something else insignificant to eat up 20 minutes of theater time. We get your formula Star Wars… particularly in this trilogy. But for 2 hours plus, we end up at the obvious ending and they still expect us to be wowed. I think the diehard fan base, which I am not even though I’ve seen all of the movies except Solo, deserves much more than what they got from this film. Even in the scenery, nothing new was even explored in this film. Same old desert, rain forest etc. One thing I did enjoy about the last Star Wars film Last Jedi was the scenery they gave us. That red salt scene at the end… hot fire. This movie not so much. And don’t even get me started on the lame acting in this movie.

Now don’t get me wrong, the story of Star Wars in this recent trilogy is annoying at best but it’s still a wonder to see visually on the big screen. This movie does have some really good, yet unoriginal action scenes, throughout. Who doesn’t love racing around spaceships, lightsaber duels, endless inaccurate blaster shots by the bad guys. No seriously, even though I was bored with the movie, I was enthralled by the constant barrage of action and entertainment.

Long story short, nothing I could say would stop a Star Wars fan from seeing this movie. So let them enjoy their big popcorn. Everyone else, you have to have seen all of the other movies to understand whats going on. So it’s not worth wasting the theater monies on this film. Check it out on Disney+, if you ever catch up on the other installments of Star Wars.

May the force be with you.

It is a very messy conclusion to the franchise. There is a lot to dislike in this movie. Negatives:
- Palpatine coming back just kinda happens? Not really explained
- The story is very messy, rushed and all over the place
- The lightsaber fights suck
- Luke, Lando,Rose and the Knights of Ren are wasted as characters
- Introducing too many new characters - An absolute insult to The Last Jedi and not a proper sequel to it
- The twist sucks

There are a fair amount of good in the film though
+ Leia is handled very well
+ Phenomenal CGI
+ The real practical stuff are amazing
+ Some nice surprises
+ The ending at least feels conclusive
+ Great action near the end
+ Richard E Grant is amazing

It's not great and it does make you wonder what Star Wars Sequel trilogy could've been but at least its over now

Both of the previous to entries in this trilogy have been in my opinion, extremely underwhelming, both for different reasons. The force awakens was although in itself a decent film, painfully unoriginal and extremely predictable, but had a good script with an alright plot and a good supporting cast. The last Jedi had massive sections that were just plain boring and had a terrible script, but at the same time was far less predictable and had an extremely underrated performance from Mark Hamil. Episode 9 however, instead of learning from the mistakes of its predecessors makes them all again without anything really to redeem it. The dialogue was cheesy and pretty awful at some points and towards the end the plot really dragged. The final showdown between the resistance and the first order was practically just a massive cringe fest, and none of the new characters are given enough time to be invested in. The film wasn’t all bad though, as it saw the return of Ian McDiarmid as palpatine, who is once again phenomenal. Other characters, mainly Kylo Ren are given a chance to fully develop and have satisfying closure in the finale. I think it’s also worth mentioning that the sith are really made out to be quite sinister in this film, which I personally loved. I also couldn’t help but notice a much smaller focus on the lightsaber fights. Perhaps it’s because of how badly choreographed the throne room fight in the last Jedi was, but I think the change of pace worked well and when there was the occasional dual it felt more slick. I guess it is worth talking about the cinematography, even though it’s pretty much the same every year it is once again excellent. I think an issue that both me and many fans are having is that it renders the struggles of characters like Luke and Anakin useless. What I mean by this is that, Anakin was destined to destroy the sith and end the tyranny of the emperor, yet here he stands alive and well, ready for Rey to fulfill someone else’s prophecy. Not only does it break the lore but it is extremely contrived and just generally bad writing.
In conclusion, the rise of skywalker is an underwhelming installment in an epically mediocre trilogy. It does have a few redeeming qualities and is altogether an enjoyable experience, but it’s not enough to make up for all of its flaws. This is now in my opinion the worst Star Wars film.

I finally got around to seeing this and reading the reviews prior to going to the theater I thought I was in for something absolutely horrible and to be honest, I didn't think it was as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I loved the visualsI finally got around to seeing this and reading the reviews prior to going to the theater I thought I was in for something absolutely horrible and to be honest, I didn't think it was as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I loved the visuals like the Star Destroyers lined up perfectly in a grid like pattern w/ lightning crashing down around them was so damn awesome I nerdgasmed out on it, sound effects were great as always in the SW series, seeing different characters, and I really enjoyed having C-3PO as more of a main character w/ more and actual lines, some of which were pretty funny I thought. BUT, there are definitely some things that are not good about this movie. I found the writing to be subpar, especially certain one liners and I couldn't help to think that even I could write better dialogue. There were two or so moments that never panned out to anything. There some pretty ridiculous force moments, nothing I can go into w/out spoiling, but way too over the top that just cheapens the movie. The worst part of the movie though was the super predictable story, again, can't go into detail but, super predictable. Finally w/ all that said, I enjoyed the movie overall. I've seen plenty of truly 1 star movies and this definitely was not one. At the same time it's not anywhere close to the quality of SW we know. Overall, I'd say it's ok, pretty good, and an enjoyable enough movie I'd recommend at least renting it. Expand
