I wanted to like the film, but I left the theater feeling conflicted. I will not be watching it again.

Disney finally kills off the last of the OG heroes in this one and bringing back Palpatine literally undos the entire Skywalker Saga story arch.

This is what I would expect a Star Was film to be with a rabid feminist like Kathleen Kennedy at the helm of LucasFilm. The Phantom Menace and the Clone Wars are much better than this dumpster fire.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is Dark Empire, except done worse in every way you can think of. Palpatine's return felt forced and weirdly done. There are several twists and redemptions that make no sense whatsoever. The progression of the movie feels weird.
I'm certain a good number of actors in this film are great in other films. Its just in this film, they can't save it. The story makes no sense and this movie makes me long for the days when I thought attack of the clones was the worst star wars movie. And the icing on the cake is that the music is really forgettable.

Imagine you have the flu, took a bunch of cough medicine and spend the evening on wookiepedia. Imagine the resulting fever-dream - and you get RoS.
Like in a dream, you always know what is happening in the moment, but have no idea how it is supposed to come together or what it means. Characters wander off and reappear out of nowhere, looking for something they need without knowing why. All is on a straight line, yet goes in circles. Everybody runs as fast as they can, so no one moves at all...
As with TLJ, I have to say I have never seen a big studio blockbuster like that. But where TLJ tried to tell a different story, here it seems like Disney gave up after the backlash and now retreats into the vague and atmospheric, where it feels like SW, but literally does nothing, so no one can complain.
So, one point for achieving exactly what they wanted, one point for set- and sound-design, Adam Driver, Babo Frik, and how happy everybody is in the end, and no more points, because there literally is nothing else.

However, the latest installment, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," falls far short of expectations and fails to capture the magic of the previous films.

The film's plot is convoluted and disjointed, with unnecessary subplots that add little to the overall story. The pacing is uneven, with action sequences that feel rushed and dialogue scenes that drag on for far too long. The film tries to cram in too many characters and storylines, leaving many of them underdeveloped and ultimately unsatisfying.

Moreover, the film's attempts at fan service are heavy-handed and feel forced, with callbacks to previous films that feel out of place and unnecessary. The film also fails to deliver on its promise of a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga, with a resolution that feels rushed and unsatisfying.

Additionally, the performances of the cast, including franchise veterans like Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, feel wooden and uninspired, with little chemistry between characters. Even the iconic score by composer John Williams fails to capture the excitement and wonder of the previous films.

Overall, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" is a disappointing conclusion to a beloved franchise, failing to deliver on its promise of a satisfying conclusion and feeling like a cheap imitation of the previous films. Fans of the series are better off revisiting the original trilogy than wasting their time with this lackluster installment.

However, apparently, after that film's very divisive reaction among fans, Disney decided to completely reverse course and fall back into the "original trilogy rehash" tactic they used to make The Force Awakens. The result is an extremely awkward finale that spends much time poorly retconning virtually every plot development from its predecessor, while also frantically to fit the existing plotline into a mimic of Return of the Jedi. It'd be petty to not at least mention that the CGI is unsurprisingly up to Disney standards, and at least adds some eye-candy enjoyment to the battle scenes and the like. However, overall, the movie feels like an underwhelming finale to a trilogy completely different than the one actually released. The Rise of Skywalker is not just a bad finale, or a bad sequel. It's straight-up a bad film. Expand

In this case, it's the 9s and 10s that seem to go out of their way to throw a dig at anyone who dared dislike this movie. Whenever I'm reading reviews, I take note of the side that is more often attacking the other, and know that's the side with the bad faith take.

Since everything has already been said ad nauseam about this movie by now, I thought I'd just throw out that little personal aside towards reviews, and maybe a few people will see it and take that into consideration going forward. After all, knowing which reviews are in good faith and which aren't will help to ensure only quality products are supported. Hopefully that'll one day lead to a return of giving fans what they want rather than telling them what they SHOULD want

The entire plot of the movie is driven by coincidence, convenience, and pure dumb luck. Pacing is awful, the movie literally feels like a whole heap in cinematic trailers strung end-on-end. And chronology is completely all over the place.. like the rebels being able to form up, prepare, dispatch, travel and arrive at *spoiler* in the same amount of time it takes Rey to land and walk inside.... The writing is bad. The plot is dumb as hell. As a finale to the new trilogy, it's a massive fail. As a finale to the entire 9 movie saga, it's a joke. Expand

It's still so hard to believe they wasted almost a $BILLION dollars on a trilogy that was essentially a good movie from one writer/director group with a sometimes annoying amount of fan service pandering, then a HORRIBLE, illogical movie from another writer/director group that tried to just "subvert expectations" constantly, breaking much of what came before, to a return of a director/group that angrily tried to reset the first movie's premises in a ridiculous totally illogical multiple Macguffin hunt with a ridiculous huge letdown conclusion. Such a shame how they utterly wasted an amazing universe with religiously devoted fans just to settle scores. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The movie is probably not as bad as the rating I am giving it. After all, effects look good, performances are good, and fight scenes are executed well.

The way I see it, those attributes can no longer excuse a drawn-out, directionless, retconning third installment that treats its plot and characters with very little care.

What should’ve been the triumphant conclusion to a trilogy ended up being a “let’s get as much money as we can before this jig is up.”

It is insane to look back on this trilogy and realize that there was no real plan for these films, and it clearly shows.

if it wasn't called Star Wars it wasn't so bad for a do-it-yourself story, but unfortunately by adding random events and unclear ideas they ruined a Saga, swapping cinematic entertainment with a politically correct rally.

All the characters, except for Poe Dameron, are **** or combined. Hux, who in episode 7 was an interesting character. In episode 8, he was humiliated by In the new movie, they did it at all. Being a spy, I noticed that Disney introduces new characters without revealing them so that children buy figures. Totally *** * stupid idea, which turns out to be Palpatine's granddaughter. I wonder who slept with Palpatine, it would be nice to talk about Palpatine's love, etc. Throughout the trilogy there are lightsaber fights. Worse than in the original trilogy. The directors who were smoking at the moment. In Palpatine's empire, from somewhere, many space destroyers appeared from somewhere that could destroy the planet. Question to the idiots of the creator, how can this be done , not noticeable. I don't know for sure, but an Imperial Star Destroyer can hold 50 thousand people. There are about 30 ships, and they need engineers and builders, etc. to make them. That is, they have at least 5-10 million people How can it be left unnoticed by everyone. How did they accept the workers? were discovered, they were probably protected by the writer. How they even manage to destroy entire planets is nonsense. Now Mary Sue and Kylo have finally fallen in love with each other. Now she has learned to treat everyone, she can do anything without learning. She is a total idiot. Pa It's not at all clear how he survived. Ray easily kills him. It turns out that all Jedi of all time live in **** how it works, who is not, when the Star Wars universe cannot exist. Kylo sacrifices himself to cure the idiot. Leia died in the film. Hari Fisher's Eternal Rest, directed by Disney, will no longer use it as a graphic. This **** killed the whole Skywalker. See "Old Men Must Die." trilogy, it's a complete wear and tear of my favorite universe, so you need to **** you need to be able. In short, stupid **** stupid ****. producer, but in her old age decided to become famous (Kathleen Kennedy). I want to talk in general about the Disney canon. After Disney bought the rights to Star Wars. Declaring all the work of the expanded universe is not canon. a serious universe that began in books, comics and developed in the prequel elah and in the animated series "The Clone Wars". Where we were shown the ambiguity of the relationship between the rebels and the imperials. What freaks of the politics of the republic, empire, etc. One would wonder if there was such an evil empire? Disney decided to go back to the original trilogy with good rebels and bad imperials. They also steal characters from the old canon. For example, Kylo Ren stole the costume entirely from Darth Revan. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first watched Rise of Skywalker, I thought it was just ok. I had seedlings of problems with the film, but they were small enough to where it didn't kill the film. However, after letting the film sit for a while and rewatching the first 8 films, those seedlings have grown into substantial issues that big the entire film down. Before I go into more detail, let me get these two things out of the way. 1: Disney clearly had no idea where this trilogy was going, and so a lot of my problems can be blamed on Disney rather than JJ or anyone else who worked on this movie. 2: I liked the Last Jedi. Not because it was an amazing movie, but because it kept me invested. The twists and turns, while maybe not the best decision for the series in the long run, made me wanna keep watching to see what happens next. The overall climax was epic in every sense of the word. The film was just interesting, which is something I cannot say about Rise of Skywalker. In short, my main problems with ROS are that it felt like a fan fiction, contradicted almost every Star Wars film, and was poorly written and boring. As stated before, it was clear Disney didn't know what they were doing, but I think JJ had a plan. I believe that JJ was setting up something with Force Awakens. However, Disney handed the wheel over to Rian, who then steered JJ's plan way off track. But, when the backlash to Last Jedi came in swinging, Disney gave the wheel back to JJ and said, "Fix this please." So, JJ used ROS to repair the damage Last Jedi caused. Which wouldn't be a problem, if that wasn't the only thing ROS felt like it did. To me, it feels like ROS leans to heavily into the "fix Rian's mistakes" camp, rather then the "conclude this trilogy well" camp. This fix it mentality is also what makes ROS feel like a fan fiction. What I mean by that, is that it seems like the whole movie was written by an upset fan after the Last Jedi. This does not bode well for the movie, as it makes the writing feel messy and not like a Star Wars movie. Speaking of Star Wars movies, this film contradicts and rejects multiple ideas from the previous movies via its most heinous addition: Emperor Palpatine lives. You see, there was this great moment in Revenge of the Sith where Palpatine tells Anakin the story of how Darth Plagueis was murdered by his apprentice. "Ironic." Palpatine says at the end of the the tale. This was a great moment because we know that Palpatine also dies to his own apprentice! Except he doesn't because ROS said so! Also the prophecy and many other lines about Anakin defeating the sith are completely butchered by this decision. Honestly, this single choice kills the movie for me now because I can't watch the first 6 films without being reminded that there lines are rendered pointless. Finally, I just thought the film was a boring string of fetch quests, which is just bad writing. I don't have as much to say about this point, it's pretty self explanatory. Overall, this film is a mess and is constantly struggling to both end this trilogy in a satisfactory way and answer fan complaints about the Last Jedi. Expand

Since Disney added time travel and bringing back characters to life to their version of Star Wars, they could have brought Luke Skywalker and Admiral Gial Ackbar back. It was messed up how Rise Tico and Kelly Marie Tran were treated. This film isn’t canon to Star Wars Legends or George Lucas’s version of Star Wars. Expand

You can summorise the "plot" with find a thing to find a thing to find a thing to get to a thing. The Emperor survived the OT, so Anakins sacrifice was for nothing, the Rebellion made no difference, all characters Star Wars Fans cared for for decades are dead, Rey is now a bigger Mary Sue, she can fly now and heal fatal wounds. Fin is still anoying and oh not to forget the Empire on steroids now has thousands of ships as powerfull as a Deathstar... that don't know where up is, not kidding they have ONE ship with a navigationtower that they need to tell how to fly vertically.
This movie feels like it was written by someone who ones saw the OT totaly drunk and wrote the script totaly drunk.

The acting was pretty bad especially from our main heroine who felt like she had the charm of a dead opossum, the non stop filming of her bland face that shows zero emotion when something happens made it even more tedious and boring to watch. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the worst thing that Star Wars has ever made as a franchise. After the good and ORIGINAL work that Ryan Johnson has made, picking the ideas that George Lucas had and turned them into his personal view (the old Luke thing was created by Lucas) and the brother-sister relationship development between Rey and Kylo was just amazing. J.J. comes back from his Episode IV with different skins and resolution and decided to trow in the trash everything that the only real author who's worked on the third trilogy did. Now Rey and Kylo are in love, the entire movie is just episode V and VI put together badly, and there is Palpatine.
I won't ever forget how the scene from episode VIII where Kylo kills Snoke was intense, he was finally capable to do what Vader didn't: being the real bad guy, who really decided what to do and with no rules. J.J. decided that he needed a new Snoke again.
The visuals are impressive but from Disney that's the minimum that I expect.
I wont linger in all the Finn and Poe scenes and the continuous second thoughts that the film mades constantly.

George after watching "The Force Awakens" said "people will like that". That's no compliment, he always went counter-current, just look at his career and the second trilogy. When the man that created the saga says the worst thing that he could ever say to describe the modus operandi of a director and you bring it back to the most important film for the saga, you know you did an error and that everything went wrong.

By far the worst Star Wars movie, and in many ways one of the worst pieces of entertainment, made by a big studio, for many decades.
Obviously, Disney has some people in charge, who are simply not capable in their jobs.
The basics of character-driven stories are something which need to be adhered to. Not understanding why, or even what they are, is something executives demonstrated when they green-lit The Last Jedi's script.
The Rise of Skywalker is the result.
Let this be a lesson to all studios and franchise custodians alike. Letting people who don't even understand the basic rules of storytelling, at a first year English student level, hold ultimate power over the story of the biggest and most valuable franchise, the world has ever created, will end badly.
It did.
Very badly.

But in a completely different way. While the previous movie, for all its story-telling issues and character assassinations, at least explored some interesting concepts (even if they never went anywhere) "TRoS" is bad in the opposite way. It tries so hard to reverse some of the issues caused by the previous film, it just makes an even bigger mess and sabotages the entire trilogy. The plot is messy and arbitrary, the characters arcs unsatisfying, the villain is...just dumb. It's hard to imagine a worse way to end a trilogy, especially a Star Wars trilogy. The Force Awakens lacked imagination but was basically enjoyable, while The Last Jedi took some risks I thought would help inject new life into the franchise. In an effort to address fan criticism of The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker tried to pretend it didn't exist. Reviving Palpatine was a terrible decision. I think that this film has no respect to old Star Wars characters like Look, Anakin and Obi-Wan. I think like that because all the jedis can't defeat the dark side except Look. (We learned that he can not defeat the darkside in the 7. movie) And a girl who has only few years of jedi education can kill defeat the dark side. İs it fair? Look, Anakin and Obi-Wan's life started with education and ended
with education. İn my opinion the story ends at 6. film. I'll give 3 because it is a good movie when u didn't think that it is Star Wars. If you had a plan like watching Star Wars, do not watch 7. 8. and 9. movie.
