Certainly it's better than your average superhero story but it's not that much better and is still filled with cliches at the end of the day. If you're after the visual effects and don't want to take the story too seriously (which I guess is indeed how you would read the comics), and understand the various references the movie makes, then this could be for you. The down fall is the plot. It is the best depiction of different universes I have ever seen but the story line is taken over by the visuals. Some of the characters felt mismatched (the anime girl with the robot) but in the end it came together.
Most importantly, we need a spider man noir sequel!

Spiderman fans (and super-hero fans, in general) might not like the story because it's not your typical comic-book story. But, I am not a fan of super-hero movies and the story is ok with me, except that the fight at the end is too long (like in every other super-hero movie).

I swore off animated movies. Having gone into a sugar coma while viewing the highly-regarded “Paddington 2” (2017), I vowed never again. In this case, I’m glad I broke the rules.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” breaks plenty of rules on its own. Along the way, it offers a variety of pleasant surprises. There’s a cameo by Stan Lee (creator of the Marvel Comics franchise) selling Spider-Man costumes and validating that we’re all Spider-Man by gruffly confirming that his one-size-fits-all costumes fit everybody - at some point. There’s Mahershala Ali (Uncle Aaron) not lighting up the screen with his presence, primarily because he’s not on the screen. There’s Liev Schreiber (Kingpin) showing his dramatic range by shifting from his dour, but excellent, role in “Ray Donovan” to Spider-Man’s dour nemesis. In a total shocker, there’s Nicholas Cage (Spider-Man Noir) appearing in an interesting movie. There’s Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Woman/Gwen Stacy) in another transformative role. There’s Byron Tyree Henry as, wait for it, Jefferson Davis, the father of our Afro-Puerto Rican protagonist. It’s all just weird and wildly wonderful.

The plot is also predictably bizarre. As part of his plan for world domination, Kingpin has built an atomic collider that inadvertently creates a rip in the space/time continuum. Our protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore – 2015’s “Dope”), a 16-year-old student at Brooklyn Visions Academy, is bitten by a mechanical spider. Soon enough, he explores his developing super powers and is out to thwart Kingpin. Because of the disruption in the space/time continuum, other Spider characters are able to come to his aid: the aforementioned Spider-Woman, Spider-Man (Chris Pine), Older Spider-Man/Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), Spider-Noir (Cage as a black-and-white character in a trench coat), and, my personal favorite, Spider-Ham/Peter Porker (John Mulaney) who bears a striking resemblance to Elmer Fudd. Back to the plot: on the brink of world disaster, they collectively save the day.

Even visually, this film is disorienting. There is conventional CGI, Ben-Day dots (used regularly in vintage comic books), an anime character (Peni Parker, voiced by Kimiko Glenn), thought balloons, even written sound effects reminiscent of the old “Batman” TV series (1966-1968). Directors Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman and Robert Persichetti, Jr. have pulled out all the stops. It’s all so bizarrely unique that Sony is reportedly trying to patent the processes used to craft these unique visual mash-ups.

If you are looking for a logical/linear story line or deep insight into the human condition, get serious. You really expected that from comic book characters?! But if you want a strange but wondrous adventure, in the immortal words of Steppenwolf (1968), “You don’t know what/We can find/Why don’t you come with me little (gender neutral pronoun)/On a magic carpet ride.”

But I was trying as hard as I could to lower my expectations for the movie, as I was quite possibly sure that a movie with many "spider people" in it like this would be a total mess. The reviews came out calling the movie one of, if not the greatest Spider-Man movie ever made! I was still has my same worries; but I was so glad it gained such awesome reviews, for I really had thought the movie would be a critical failure. (I mean, It's produced by Sony Pictures Animation after all!)

First things first, the eye-popping visuals I've seen a glimpse of from the trailers didn't disappoint. As a matter of fact, the animation looks even better than I expected it to be. The insanely inventive visual style of this movie is unlike any other film ever made; It's simply groundbreaking! Plus, the movie could have easily felt more self-indulgent than clever due to the eye-poppingly opulent visual style that embraces the aesthetics of its comic-book roots; but the movie's substance is as much as it's style. The action set-pieces are quite staggering and innovatively designed; those of Incredibles 2 really pale in comparison to what I found in this movie! But the quick-frame animation also does something spectacular for the action sequences. It made the action looks pretty fast and uniquely slick.

While the movie's unique aesthetic was the thing that made me interested in watching the movie in the first place; the thing that amazed me is the unorthodox and unprecedented way the movie captured the anxiety and panic of gaining superpowers and becoming a superhero. I know it seems weird and quite silly when I say that I felt that I was feeling what Miles Morales felt when he discovered that he became a superhero for the first time! The movie shows us how "With great power comes great responsibility" instead of making us hear it over and over. Of course, the visuals added a lot to this point in particular; but it's Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman's astute and extremely clever script that made Morales a fully-fledged, and quite relatable character by putting him in both internal and external conflict. Nothing feels exceptional or new in the character's arc, and you could easily sense the familiarity of the phases our protagonist go through; but the innovative storytelling that enriches the plot as well as the main character made up for that. Although they are not fully-developed and fleshed-out as much as I hoped; The other "spider people", are utilized quite well, they fit perfectly in the story, and every single one of them has their own personality, its own character, and that made each one of them adds something different to the humor of the movie, which is, by the way, quite brilliant! That's more than enough for me, especially since the overabundant storylines and characters were my biggest concerns about this movie before watching it. They could have hampered the narrative and made the movie a complete mess like I had expected; but they didn't, and everything was surprisingly cohesive.

There is no doubt that the subtle humor played an important in making the storylines feel coherent; but the unparalleled realization of the idea of... well, the parallel worlds and the multiverse is really the thing that glued all the different sub-plots and storylines together, and made what seems implausible on paper quite compelling and cogent.

The villain, Kingpin is, sadly, the worst thing in this movie. His character is underutilized, underdeveloped, and kinda dumb and stupid! It's really disappointing, as Netflix's Daredevil's Kingpin is one of my favorite comic-book villains I've ever seen being depicted on screen. Besides that I already knew his background very well, the movie did nothing but giving us every once in a while a glimpse or a peak of Kingpin's back-story, and hence his motivations, and this was very perfunctory, especially for those who introduced to this character for the first time. Adding insult to injury, the short scenes that concern Kingpin are scattered and annoyingly intrusive. The fact that Kingpin is quite brainless is totally out-of-place. I mean, the movie is way too smart and clever to have a villain like this that kept giving the protagonist enough time to defeat him until the very end!

Overall, Miles Morales has an unforgettable big-screen debut thanks to a compelling adventure story with innovative and clever storytelling, ground-breaking (and hopefully revolutionary) striking visuals and risk-taking animation style, and strong vocal performances from the entire cast. The well-deserved Oscar winner, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is hands down the best animated movie of 2018!

Yes, I found this movie to be extraordinary, however, there are a few things about this film that should have been reviewed and/or fixed before the final poduct being released. The movie had an amazing storyline but the art style was, lets say... off. Yes, I understand that the art was meant to look like a comic book, but it was honestly just weird. The visuals seemed to give almost everyone in the theatre an odd expression on their face. I think that the art style would have looked better if it didn't have all the lines and dots in the background. But overall, an enjoyable film. Expand

Here the talented pair, along with Avi Arad and Peter Ramsey, turn their hand to a beloved Marvel item who is no stranger to a reboot; Spider-Man. But, this time we’re not being subjected to yet another Uncle Ben death scene; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the origin story of another Spidey, plucky teen, Miles Morales (an energetic Shameik Moore) as he grapples with the infamous Kingpin (Liev Schreiber), helped by a number of inter-dimensional “Spider-people”… including a washed-up, cynical Peter Parker (voiced with a nonchalant drawl by Jake Johnson). We watch as Miles grapples with finding his feet after an unfortunate interaction with a radioactive arachnid, in a hearty and humorous adventure, that feels distinctly Lord and Miller.
Into the Spider-Verse is a noticeably different adaptation of the friendly neighbourhood superhero; from the outset, the film cheekily satirises the incessant rebooting of its character (a flashback to a certain Spider-Man 3 moment gives perhaps the biggest laugh). Plenty of fun is poked out of comic-book movie tropes too; this doesn’t change the fact however that, plot-wise, Into the Spider-Verse has little to offer in terms of originality, its narrative as predictable as a Saturday morning TV cartoon. The film almost makes this redundant, however, through a stylish and confident execution, that feels fresh. Lord and Rodney Rothman’s script is full of wry humour, quick-witted, yet full of heart and honesty. Miles Morales is also a more fleshed out lead than we are used to from Marvel (despite a slightly easy resolution to his arc) and his band of misfits, whilst largely one-note, are fun enough to carry the film with ease. Brian Tyree Henry and Mahershala Ali are unfeigned as Miles’ father and uncle respectively and Jake Johnson is simply brilliant in an incarnation of Peter Parker hitherto undreamt of. An antagonist in the form of Kingpin is more disappointing, a forced motivation leaving him uninteresting and decidedly by-the-numbers. The movie leaves us little time to think on its faults though; it takes a relentless, yet natural, pace through riveting action sequences and comedic montages, with the ease of a web swing.
Into the Spider-Verse’s greatest strength, however, is its design. The animation is unique and aesthetic, delightfully reminiscent of an old-school comic strip. The film feels like a very real homage to its source material, the comic in comic book movie always coming first. Into the Spider-Verse won’t be remembered for breaking ground in plot and character, but its design alone is enough to make you want to go back for more.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have assembled a fun and frenetic film which, whilst standard on paper, is executed with artistry and flair. An incarnation of the world’s favourite superhero surely to be remembered.

This movie is great. The voice acting is excellent, the plot is just fine, and the animation is out of this world. It's definitely this movie's biggest strength.

What hurt the movie the most was its "trendy" soundtrack, or rather, when it was being played. Whenever the movie tried to make us care about whatever was happening by playing some emotional "trendy" music, my mind'd go "Yeah, that seems forced."

All that said, Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse is the most unique super-hero movie I've ever seen and that's mostly thanks to its incredible stylized "comic-like" animation.

Many of these attempts fail, however, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse manages to achieve something highly unique in style. This uniqueness makes everything that plays out on screen seem highly original and entertaining.

The plot was good, although some aspects of it could have been developed further. The charm of the typical spider man was achieved. With regards to the multiple spider men and women in parallel universes, it was interesting and provided an edge and some interesting concepts, however, I could have done with a gentler ease into anime and warner bros. The movie is clearly designed for kids and I couldn't help but unwind while watching this film and not think about it too much. I have a feeling that this film will become a childhood favorite for many of the younger generation who watched this whilst also being appreciated by older generations also.

I've lost my touch with most super hero films, but this one takes the cake with it's hilarious script writing, attention to detail in symbolism pertaining to Miles' character development, and all the different unique animation styles flowing naturally together. One of the major factors that falls flat for me has to be the story, I just felt like it was slightly rushed and could've had more potential with its characters, especially the villains. Miles I felt could've shown more development with his offhand relationship with his father instead of just "avoiding" him or accidentally running into him as Spider-Man, but that's just me; the moment of when they're having a heart to heart while he's tied up in front of the door would've hit much harder. All in all a great film and definitely recommend checking this out if you love Spider-Man, I've always had a soft spot for this super hero in particular because of how relatable he is as a kid to me rather than people like Iron Man and such, and Into the Spider verse nails it out of the park with just that! A black/Hispanic teen gets bitten by the radioactive spider. While trying to figure out his powers, several other Spidey versions show up from alternate universes. What makes this fun is the lively energy, self-aware wisecracks and throwbacks to the comic roots (even Stan Lee shows up). While it's mostly fun and the visuals are flashy, the final fights are cluttered and the ending takes too much time to close. Still, it's an enjoyable and unexpected addition to the genre. NOTE: Stay thru the credits for the inevitable (wacky) surprise. Expand

Sony animations made up for the emoji movie with this film. While I wasn’t particularly impressed with this film for its original and complex storyline, the animation is simply amazing.

The stylised animation is what holds the film up where it’d otherwise be lacking. Even if I didn’t like the overarching plot of the movie, the animation alone would’ve kept me invested for the entire runtime. It has such a comic book vibe to it that other comic book movies lack and as a result end up looking stately shot. Into the spiderverse uses a lot of songs, some of which were good and fit in, but other times so would just intrude when we’re supposed to feel emotion. The film had likeable leads for the most part. Nobody was unbearable, but none of the characters were particularly interesting or complex. Our main trio: Miles, Peter And Gwen all had characters arcs though, so that’s passable. My main complaint would be that I found Miles kind of cringey at the start of the movie, and it wasn’t an intentional teenage cringe that I felt while watching something like “Eighth grade.” The storyline these characters traversed through wasn’t all that original, but I don’t think it needed to be. The storywork could’ve been better, but could’ve been so much worse. As for the humour: Half the jokes were quite clever and got a chuckle out of me, the other half were fairly half-assed and just left me with my face in my palm.

Overall, into the spiderverse was a fun movie. I liked all of the leads and some of the jokes were funny, but I wasn’t emotionally invested in the film when it wanted me to be. If you like the animation based off the trailers, you will like this film, potentially love it. I can’t say I’m going to be rewatching this anytime soon, but it was a fun thing to watch, especially on my birthday.

Web Of Parallel Lies.

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse

Marvel's sci-fi diverse superhero flick is more than a flung news, infinitely stretched over the narrow streets, it is set in a known universe; home, New York. Endorsing its ownself into a comical idea that jumpstarts this cat and mouse chase is less promising and more exciting. The first act involves your usual teenage drama that feels like an indie film, a surprising take by Marvel. But all this trickery is shattered pretty much in its first few minutes, as this visual galore swings you like a toddler and you are beames back into your childhood memories.

This vision of yours is too shattered by the makers by complicating the linear humane tale into a labyrinthe of dual identities that keeps multiplying like an algorithm which keeps you at the brisk of your seat and challenges you to stay with the storytelling. And this is where the makers shine, despite of being gifted a plethora of tracks or ideas and being free of all logistics, they have sticked to an arguably a simpler one that is constructed well enough for the audience to nod along. Similar to any other animated feature, it makes it more juicy due to its tied hands, the conflicts that the lead characters are piled upon is what makes it electrifying.

But this is Lord's world at some point. And his pacing vocab can easily be pointed out in here. Similar to The Lego Movie, there are too many characters to adore on screen and each of them trying to whirl you around with their hilarious innuendos or their own sub-plots or pointing out the obvious on the stage. It is the Lego phase all over again. You are too overwhelmed at times, to enjoy it thoroughly. You are too busy to catch up with what's going on that you do feel left out.

There is a sense of incompetency in the air, ironically due to overstuffed material. And this is something that can itch to few viewers as you feel being cheated. Personally, I enjoy such narration, it challenges me to push my boundaries and snaps at me on every frame for my attention. The action is more "cool" than it is smart, the artists are stealing the awe struck moments as much as they can. And with a new smooth visual effects like such, they do add the literal transcript on screen and the infamous comic sound effects written out aloud in front of you.

The voice cast has done a decent work but there isn't much for them to factor than few show stealing one liners that stay with you, even after the curtains are dropped for long; the Spider-Man Noir learning the colors on cube still cracks me up. But amidst all these glossy distraction there is, the theme, the gist, is still the same old drama, no matter what Peter says in here, I am going to complete the sentence, "With great powers comes great responsibilities." Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse is a family drama that swings its way out to create that arc into a full circle.

You just don't care about them because they are being introduced so badly, writer just says you: "hey, this guy is a dick and your main character is a good guy so must feel him. A FRESH TAKE ON THE CLASSIC WEB-SLINGER

Occasionally every year, a film will be released and be acknowledged as a good movie. It might not happen that often, not often as you might think, but it does. It’ll stuck in your brain and it’ll be the movie everyone talks about. People can’t shut up about it. It supposed to be that good. Yet, people are alienated on how they think about this feature films. That seems for the time being, be the case with the upcoming Marvel/Sony Animation movie; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Or maybe it’s just the movie of the month…

In this movie, a lot of characters is crafted and shown. Some characters are recognizable than other or even gender swapped, just for the sake of it. In this animated shared universe, there is multiple Peter Parker/Spider-Man – the original just like other version of that hero. In this case, the other version happens to be Miles Morales, who have a similar story to Parker but has a different background and charisma. He is not the nerd that Parker is when it comes to science and timid when it comes to girl which is something his uncle Aaron taught him...

I can see why this is highly regarded, especially if you have a connection as a comic reader. Alas, I do not, but I still had a good time watching this.

It was cool seeing every department of the story come together, while the animation is definitely one of its big plus points - I enjoyed seeing it. The voice cast all do respectable jobs too. I have no issues with this film, to be honest. I just guess there isn't anything I love about it either.

Shameik Moore is good in the lead, while Jake Johnson supports competently in his role. Hailee Steinfeld, Nicolas Cage and Kathryn Hahn, as well as a few others, stick out too. Away from the already mentioned, I also like the music - having already known about "Sunflower".

Evidently it didn't connect to me, someone who has zero attachment to the source material, massively. That doesn't, though, change the fact that I did find enjoyment with 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' and I would certainly recommend it.

That Spider-man was able to damage the collider but not before it breaks down the boundary between universes - he's killed in the process. Miles has to learn to become the new Spider-man while Spider-people from other universes come over to stop Kingpin running the collider again. The storyline and animation is interesting and fresh at the beginning but gradually loses its shine. > Related media: I have watched all Marvel Cinematic Universe films with Spider-man featured. I have not read the comics or watched the TV shows.

> 2. The fast parts of some animations can be too much for some people, including myself.
> 3. Towards the second half of the film, it just felt frustrating, tiring and not that impressive. > How would the different age groups rate this: > Children: Good > Teens: Excellent > Young adults: Excellent

Today, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse accurately depicts more than just that: what it means to put on the red mask.

It’s no secret, however, that superheroes give bad relationship advice, as Mary Jane Watson has always been so awful to Peter. Here, while there’s also a usual mentor relationship for Brooklyn teen Miles, things really get kicked off by his affection for Gwen Stacy, who mostly stands as a believable yet cheap love interest. She does get to become more of a character later, but the way she’s introduced isn’t enough to hook female viewers. Spider-Man is essentially worshipped as a god for everyone to submit their identities to, but this movie also tries to make us feel sad for the “humanized” villain, Kingpin, by giving him a forgettable tragic backstory. Any sadness attempted falls flat because it’s brought up using a noisy, hyper, seizure-inducing color spectrum; the worst possible method of entertaining kids.

We perhaps are getting a taste of the dark cinematic superhero era of 1995, back when its insincere cheesiness peaked by a certain director whose name rhymes with Moel Bumacher. Although in this case, it works to its advantage, as some anime influence pops up by the visual of a spider on ultraviolet hallucinogens. Other old comic book imagery makes its way in, like yellow box text projecting Miles’ thoughts. There are plenty other creative spins to make this its own distinct identity, one that sprays graffiti paint over your own eyesight of Ben Parker’s “great power, great responsibility” quote. Miles’ extra-dimensional mentor, Mister Peter B. Parker, now hates Uncle Ben’s quote, so a new uncle figure (and aunt figure) arrive for a new 2018 audience. Such new changes to the formula help deliver an important new message to learn: You can’t save everybody.

Regrettably, the screenwriters, which include Phil Lord of The LEGO Movie, couldn’t save their script. I know superhero worlds often embrace absurdity, except the logic of this superhero world matches a child’s mind, its coincidences removing justification of the ridiculous dialogue, particularly Miles’ incapacity to tell his dad he loves him. Also, Spider-Man comics exist within Miles’ world… for some unexplained reason. The poor writing goes to the unconvincing dialogue ruined all the further by overly dramatic music queueing in a surprise villain twist. These detriments to Miles’ character arc spark the numerous bad qualities of old comic books.

That doesn’t mean the good visual qualities of old comic books are useless, quite the opposite in fact. As a response to his police officer father forcing him to attend “Visions Academy,” Miles appears to imagine the entire world as a comic book. Little “peck-peck-pecks” pop out of several pigeons in a sense of comic book cheesiness done correctly. While a retro battle against a giant Green Goblin takes on an old classic feel, a snow-ridden grave under flowers suggest influence from modern graphic novels. These moments all come together with a constant implementation of little vinyl dots across the screen to match an old comic strip on newsprint. Those little details balance the harshness of the past and harshness of the present, like cartoons birthing a “millenialized” baby boomer society to redefine heroism.

Its satire of the Raimi trilogy comes full circle to be not just funny, but insightful, in what needs to change. To complete revisionist touches of the superhero icon’s maturation for our modern lens, the women get their chance to suit up, particularly Gwen Stacy and her accidentally awesome haircut; not to mention Doc Ock is now female! That means we ALL get a chance to be Spider-Man!

Now, how am I Spider-Man? For one, the many difficulties come at times when helpful people aren’t always around. Example: Several months ago, I lost my wallet at the grocery story, so then began the recovery process by ordering a replacement driver’s license… which arrived a mere days before I found my wallet in the pantry. It’s a stupid moment of unnecessary freaking out, but sums up what 2018 was all about for me: becoming 100% financially dependent on myself in the same process of self-discovery and self-help that Peter Parker went through when he needed to become Spider-Man.

And finally, I ought to point out how this movie tributes Stan Lee. Amid his recent death, Stan’s latest cameo gives the man great respect that would guarantee tears of joy.

I thought Kingpin looked stylistically out of place; the plot was uninvolving; Miles seemed to "know he was ready" barely seconds after PP had told him he wasn't, compressing the ending of the story as if the writers knew they had already gone on too long.

Not just another Spidey movie, but not quite as inventive a take as critics claim.

Combined with a low rendered frame rate during non-combat scenes (low FPS so lip syncing is terrible), and a bizarre decision to render some of the 3D models with full physically based perfection, while the rest is cell shaded, add to the lack of immersion in what little story there is. Two of the spider characters are also terrible additions, that turn this into a very jeuvinile experience half-way through the movie. This is about as creative as dropping three hits of LSD, grabbing a couple of cans of paint, and decorating the neighbourhood in chaos. You either have to be a child, have a very low threshold for entertainment, or have been living in a cave to think this was anything other than mediocre. If that does describe you, they you are going to like this (a lot apparently). Expand

Very bland, lacks any good moments or tension, all characters and actions are just "cardboard", plus 'agenda' so even the last specks of good things are washed away right from the start.

Excellent animation style but that's the only reason Id didn't give it a 1. One of the two worst Spider-Man movies I have ever seen. Expand

Also, Miles Morales struck me as a subpar, annoying add-on to an already established and overused superhero - why not come up with a new hero? Instead of just multi-versions of the same one?

Check out Ralph Breaks the Internet, much better animated film.

Trash. Don't torture your kids by making them sit through this, and don't kid yourself - it is a children's "movie." And a bad one, at that.

Blurry animation, lame cliched multiple-universe plot, and ultimately the whole thing is just derivative of the real Spider-Man story with fake affirmative action characters. Hard pass!

I would only recommend this movie for babies and very young child as their brain isn't developed enough to tell how atrociously horrible it is. I don't know why there are such good reviews for this movie. Such a WASTE of money.
