It’s dorky yet slick, funny yet emotional, whimsical yet dark. The film bears closer similarity to Big Hero 6 than to Miller and Lord’s earlier films; and – if pushed – I might have to say that I actually prefer Into the Spider-Verse, which is high praise indeed. Watch this movie, before the inevitable implosion of our universe. Expand

First off, the animation is beautiful. I know some people aren't a huge fan of the 2D/3D mix and how it works, but THIS is the perfect animation style for a film that's based on a comic book property. I also appreciated how Miles' character stays true to how he is in the comics, and how the storyline is similar to his comic books, but at the same time not a direct copy. The twist to the story in regards to Peter Parker's Spider-Man concerned me at first, but it ends up contributing to how great the story is. Further, the humor in this film is spot on. I laughed out loud several times, which I honestly didn't expect to do. Honestly, there are no glaring flaws that I can think of. From beginning to end...it's just fantastic. Expand

It gives so much love to fans both young and old, even a comic reader myself, i was still floored by the twists that came in this film.
It handles so smoothly to make a movie that everyone can enjoy, so that even people who aren't spider man fans can find something they can enjoy about this movie. However i cannot say its perfect, there are moments the movie can get a little hard to watch with the way the animation looks, a little seizure inducing at the climax, and unfitting music that comes in at unreasonable times, but in spite of what the movie gets right, these are minor complaints.
Spider-Verse is not at all what i expected, but i loved it anyway, it shows such an inspiring story, with sharp humor that comes in at the right time, that are coupled with well written characters that you can't wait to see what happens next.
In conclusion, spider-verse is not only the best Spider Man movie i have ever seen, it is also the best animated movie i have ever seen. A total must watch.

Imprescindible.

No matter how goodBefore I say anything about the movie, I just wanted to talk about the reason why I gave this movie a 9/10 instead of a 10/10(Even though I am extremely tempted to do so). A 10/10 would mean the movie is "Perfect". No matter how good something is, nothing, absolutely nothing in this world can be "Perfect". There is and there will always be room for improvement. I wanted to keep some wiggle room in case a sequel is announced. Now, with all that being said, let's get down to business.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a love letter to comic book fans, Miles Morales fans, and superhero moviegoers. A true masterpiece. The art style, characters, music, and story just scream quality and blends together EXTREMELY WELL.

- The art style is AWESOME. The movie is not completely animated, it is a mix of CGI and animation. Every frame and every scene has been meticulously crafted to show style, quality, and the depth of the climate. Not only that, but it also has tons of comic book imagery, for example, art panels and thought bubbles. This would make any comic book lover drool.

- The characters are amazing. With such a talented cast to voice the characters with such perfection, no wonder the characters in this movie were so lovable and funny. Not once did I feel like any of the Spider-Man characters were there just for the sake of fan service. Every character had a role to play in this movie.

- The music in this movie is just so freaking good!!!!!!!!

- As for the story, I will not give any spoilers, but damn was the story absolutely amazing. What I will say is, STICK AROUND TILL THE VERY END. The movie shows a VERY well known Spider-Man "Meme"/Fan-Service and a very well deserved hint for a sequel.

This movie is by far the greatest superhero movie in my opinion. TRUST ME, you will NOT REGRET watching this movie, so go and watch it... NOW!!!!!!

P.S. The fact that this movie came out of Sony, the same company behind The Emoji Movie, is mind-boggling to me.

This film is the product of Sony Pictures Animation-- the same studio behind the Emoji Movie. The creators of this film make it feel like an actual comic book movie and it plays fun with the idea that superhero origin stories are drawn out. The voice acting is great as are the interactions between characters. Miles still has both his parents alive and that makes this story different than that of Peter Parker because of how much this film focuses on relationships between family members.

The villains are interested and have not been portrayed in a cinematic Spider-Man movie in their current forms. Furthermore the film is full of twists that will keep you guessing even if you have engaged in a wide array of Spider-Man media in the past. The writing is more on the humorous side, but unlike many films that have tried that approach recently, this film's humor doesn't subtract from the overall experience, rather it enhances it. The film is not so full of one-liners that subsequent watches will be lessened. In addition, the unique animation in this film is superb and is complimented by an amazing soundtrack that manages to fit the themes of the film even if you are not the biggest fan of the genre (rap/hip-hop). The only downside to the film is that while making fun of the drawn out super hero origin stories, the movie becomes one by basically setting up the Spider-verse for future installments in this series that will likely continue sovereign from the MCU. This film is a must see for fans of Spider-Man, comic books, animation, or anyone who wants to see one of the best films of 2018.

...not to be alone

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse(90/100)

A very different MCU movie experience. Most of the characters in this film were introduced after I stopped reading comics and were new to me.

Humor Score(20/20) Maybe the funniest cast-wide performance in the MCU. Robert Downey Jr.'s wit on a troupe-wide scale.

"Death" Score(20/20) For a film that is so fast moving and funny this movie strikes a great balance with the mortality that is so evident in the unfolding events of the film and the backgrounds of the character's lives. Every time someone is in danger you really believe they might perish. The risks of the calling they've undertaken are at the forefront of the story and never far from our minds.

"Being Alone" Score(20/20) I don't know if I've seen a film since Witness that juggles so many big themes so well. With great power comes great responsibility and also, it seems, a good bit of isolation. Some of these characters have loved, lost, and decided not to love at all. Maybe as they save the world they can rescue the possibility of friendship for themselves as well.

Family Score(20/20) A third great theme. In a 2 hour movie there's only so much depth you can explore here but the scenes with Miles and and his dad are fabulous. The scene as dad drops him off for school is hilarious. The scene on either side of Miles' dorm room door is touching even though Miles doesn't(well, can't) say anything.  You want Miles to reach out to his Dad for help at that point but he eventually finds his own way to deal with his problem. Their final encounter in the street makes me long to see how their relationship develops.

"Spider-Lair" Score(5/10) A tough scene to pull off and I don't think they quite did it. Given the composition of the full team this scene came off as a little silly.

Mise-En-Scene Score(5/10) The Collider battles were sometimes just a big splash of color. You couldn't tell what was happening.

90/100

Dear Sony Pictures, if you could make a Spider-Man movie like this, why did you shower us with s**ts like Venom and the (not so) Amazing Spider-Man films? .
.
Good : This latest movie featuring Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man film in the last 10 years. It was, in fact, the best Spider-Man film after the first two in Sam Raimi's trilogy, for me. Not saying that it was insanely great of a movie, but was better than every single Spider-Man film that came after them. The entire idea of culminating different Spider-Mans from different parallel universes, initially, didn't sound to me like a good idea. But, it was done in a very good manner in this film. The movie gives a good character depth to the main characters. Especially, Peter Parker, Miles Morales and somewhat to Gwen Stacey. As for the Peter Parker, it feels like they were trying to make it a continuation of what Raimi did. Many part of his backstory was similar to what Raimi did in his films, including some basic plot points. Not only this, but a lot of things he mentions feels like it was a follow-up to where Raimi left. Miles Morales, our main character, got a very good character arc. They show the backstory of every character in the same and interesting way, without being repetitive. The character dynamic is very good and there are some twists which might not expect. It also is a very good comic book panel in its own right, and being an animated feature, it doesn't look nonsensical. It is neither too dead serious nor too goofy. Most of the comedic parts and meta humour land properly. Kingpin starts off like your typical one dimensional sci-fi s**tting villain, but he also has an interesting arc, which was a little obvious as an arc, but okay. The other villains weren't so good, but were not shoehorned or forced for having villains. They were used properly as plot devices. Everything the movie has is exciting and will not let you down. The voice overs were excellent. .
.
Bad : The main criticism of this film would be that it follows the same formula of an origin story. One or two jokes do feel awkward. All the Spider-Man characters weren't equally interesting. That's all the bad it has. .
.
Conclusion : It is a very excellent film. It can be enjoyed with your entire family, including kids. This is a kids movie. But, the adults will be entertained too. It is a movie for everyone. Highly recommended. .

So, it’s veryOkay we know it’s late but we can’t let this movie pass by without a rating. This is a GREAT movie. We finally got the Spiderman movie we deserve it’s just amazing to see a good version of spiderman in such an unexpected way! So, it’s very clear that the people behind this movie knew what they were doing, they fully understand the idea of spiderman and what he’s all about. Miles Morales is represented in a very different way than peter parker and at the same time they’re both very connected in the movie. The storytelling in the movie is a vast improvement from some previous spiderman movies, it portrays miles as a normal not so perfect kid trying to figure out his life until he gets his powers and how he rises up to adapt with that in a very unique way leaving the audience caring about him. Which showcases the idea of “anyone being able to wear the mask” in a very exceptional way paying tribute to STAN LEE the legend behind all of it. One the best things about this movie is Miles taking his time to understand his powers and the responsibilities he’s bound to. The movie also heavily relys on humor to introduce the backstories of the other versions of the character and doesn’t come off in the usual way!
The incarnation of Peter Parker and Miles, both dealing with so much in their lives but always being able to pull themselves outof it is very special in the movie.
The animation in this movie is spectacular, they made good use of very effective techniques to narrate the story which provides a very comicbooky look for the movie.
As for the villian, Wilson Fisk lacked a lot in his storyline and had so much potential but his character was underdeveloped and wasted due to the main focus of the movie which is one on the main characters. If they just took some time in exploring his backstory more it wouldn’t have gone wrong.
The music in the movie is pretty good, it’s got a great soundtrack which surely enhances the experience along with the beautifully well crafted action sequences.

That is a statement you will hear uttered in almost every form of social media, amongst superhero fans and casual moviegoers alike, and whilst this phrase has been completely oversaturated, I personally believe there is some truth to it. Despite the fact that generally, hearing endless praise for a movie makes me lose interest, I still find myself coming back and enjoying it just as much every time. There are just a few things about the film that somehow appeal to virtually everyone, and although it’s impossible to nail down every aspect of its brilliance, I’ll certainly try to cover as much as I can. The first thing that you’ll notice about Into The Spider Verse is the extremely characteristic animation. The colour pallet is distinct and varied, sufficiently distinguishing itself from every other animated film. Words appear on screen to place emphasis on certain phrases, to represent Miles’s thoughts and even as onomatopoeia, all to reinforce the films comic book style. Coupled with some exceptionally sharp dialogue and unique gimmicks, this can allow for plenty of humor and/or make the faster-paced moments far more visceral. In most animation fast movements are masked by blurry motion, however to avoid this the animators of Into The Spider Verse create an effect of 'chromatic aberration', in which expertly placed lines are implemented to slightly distort the image. This is also used to focus the far away background images, and it works spectacularly, giving them far more vibrance. Thanks to the 1988 classic Akira, the majority of animated films now use 24 frames per second in order to make the animation look smoother and more free flowing. Whilst Peter Parker is indeed animated in 24FPS, Miles begins his journey in 12FPS, but as he becomes more adept with his abilities he gradually makes the transition into 24FPS, a subtle but much appreciated touch. Another wonderful method used to express the significance of Miles’s journey is Daniel Pemberton’s incredible soundtrack, the most obvious aspect of which is the repeated use of hip-hop tracks to represent Miles Morales’s identity. It’s no secret that identity and expectations are the main themes intertwined in the narrative, in fact it’s more or less shouted at you. Miles is conflicted about who he really is, forced to essentially choose between his loving but strict father, and his free-willed irresponsible uncle Aaron. The intense amount of pressure he then has to deal with after he gains these extraordinary abilities only exacerbates the situation, making it harder for him to balance his responsibilities and everyday life. Pemberton repeats two key leitmotifs throughout the film. The first plays pretty much whenever any reference to spider man is made, therefore representing the mantle. The second, is symbolic of Miles’s journey, and the challenges that he overcomes. The reason why I wanted to discuss these pieces of music, are because in the infamous 'What’s up danger' scene where Miles has finally grasped his full potential, Pemberton cleverly implements these two leitmotifs, whilst also playing a hip-hop track. This beautiful and ingenious scene highlights to our subconscious that Miles has finally discovered his identity and accepted the mantle of spider man, thus his journey is complete. You might be wondering why I’ve chosen to discuss these debatably minor aspects of the film at length instead of the story, and there is a good reason for that. Whilst I think the actual plot is... serviceable, it is my belief that the story is told better through artistic means, and should be viewed as such rather holding the flaws of the narrative against it. The message is pretty straightforward, although it’s arguable that the film should be commended for actually including any themes as opposed to adhering to the norms of generic blockbusters. Other than Miles (and debatably his father), the characters are all simple archetypes (but don’t get me wrong it works perfectly for the film). There are even a few minor plot holes and continuity errors that are pretty easy to dismiss. What I’m getting at is that it doesn’t matter that the story is nothing special. To put it simply, it just WORKS. Don’t get me wrong there are some exceptional moments that resonated with me especially. The death of Peter Parker at the start bears striking resemblance to the death of Optimus Prime at the beginning to the 1986 Transformers movie, a film which was a big part of my childhood. The subtle jabs at the genre’s cliches such as "you’ve got 24 hours" are much appreciated. Miles and Peter’s relationship is always enjoyable to watch, as they have a wonderful on-screen chemistry, but unfortunately I can’t really say the same for the inclusion of Spider Ham and Penni Parker (too cheesy for me). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll cut right to the chase. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a film that completely shattered my expectations. It's visually stunning, superbly written and acted, has a ridiculously cool soundtrack, and is a love letter to all things Spider-man, which as a fan makes me very happy. However, while it is excellent, I don't believe it to be a flawless masterpiece, nor the best Spider-man film to date. Here are my pros and cons for the film.

Pros:

-The entire cast is stellar, one of the strongest ensembles I've seen in a film. My particular favourites were Shameik Moore (Miles), Jake Johnson (Peter), Bryan Tyree Henry (Jefferson) and Kathryn Hahn (Olivia).

-The animation and art style are dazzling, perfectly capturing the look of a comic book.

-The script is excellent, full of humour and surprising amounts of emotional weight.

-Daniel Pemberton's original score is a banger, perfectly combining electronic synth and classic orchestral sound.

-This was a film clearly made by fans of the source material, and it contains a huge number of easter eggs and homages to all eras and interpretations of Spider-man.

-The film's message of anyone can be Spider-man is wonderful, but I particularly appreciate that the film itself doesn't make a point about specific characteristics like race or gender, as it avoids the identity politics hoopla of today's political extremes, as well as making the message more universal and, ironically, inclusive. As a Peter Parker fan, I'm also pleased this message didn't come at his expense, as some of the trailers led me to believe it would, as he's treated with a lot of love and respect by the filmmakers. I can only assume they worded some of the trailers poorly, made late changes to the film's message, or just didn't consider the substance of some of the trailer's lines, as they really aren't representative of the film's message.

Cons:

-While the film's fast pace is engaging, it also means a lot of characters and plot threads feel rushed or underdeveloped. Peter and Miles are great, but the rest of the cast, while excellently voiced and written in terms of dialogue, feel comparatively half-baked. Gwen, Jeff and Kingpin have OK motivations/arcs, but they're pretty rushed, while the rest of the characters, both heroes and villains, feel more like set dressing. Fun set dressing to be sure, but still pretty flat over all. Additionally, some events, like the fallout of Aaron's death, while great in some ways, feel completely skipped over in others, such as Jeff's forgiveness of Spider-man for it, and the consequences of Spider-man being branded a murderer.

-Some characters are written oddly at times. Peter initially implies he's going to stop Kingpin when he first meets Miles, but then flips completely barely a minute later and says he's just going to leave. Later, Gwen defends Miles alongside Peter against other's scrutiny, then berates him herself 20 seconds later for no discernible reason.

-The animation can occasionally resemble watching a 3D film without glasses, with objects appearing blurry and colours bleeding in to one another. It's a small flaw, but one I found noticeable enough to mention.

-While Daniel Pemberton's original score is excellent, with the exception of What's Up Danger, I wasn't a fan of the songs, and actually found they didn't really fit their scenes, and even reduced the emotional impact somewhat. A great example is the death of Spider-man.

-The actual fighting feels a bit floaty and weak at times, possibly a combination of anaemic sound design when it comes to trading blows, and the speed of the characters' animation. For animated characters with a sense of weight in combat, see the Dark Knight Returns or pretty much any DCAU production.

-Kingpin's character design feels a little out of place with others, making some dramatic scenes feel a little silly.

-This isn't a problem with the film itself, but I wanted to quickly discuss the thought process behind the film's message. While I have immense admiration and respect for the filmmakers, and love how the film itself handled its message, I was disappointed to learn the filmmakers viewed it through the lens of identity politics, and selected characters using a checklist. I have no issue with diversity whatsoever, but it should arise organically as a result of creativity in my opinion, not due to ticking boxes. I also feel this mindset kind of goes against what Stan Lee intended for the character, ie. that the physical characteristics under the mask don't matter, and so everyone can be united and feel represented by one character, whether it be Peter, Miles, Gwen, Miguel, or any other. Just my opinion of course, but I felt strongly enough to note it.

All in all, a superb film with just a few minor flaws holding it back. Huge thanks and congratulations to the filmmakers on this wonderful achievement, and the well-deserved praise they've received. Thanks for reading.

This movie is fittingly spectacular. The animation is gorgeous. It's stylish, fluid, and perfectly represents a comic book. The characters are all great. They're interesting, well-developed, and somehow distinct in their personality, despite being basically the same person. Miles is such a great character. Peter Parker is such a great character. Everyone is such a great character. I don't understand how that's possible.

The story is interesting, well-paced, and contains fleshed out themes of responsibility, perseverance, and growth.

This film just oozes of the effort that everyone who worked on this must have put in. This is the love letter to Spider-Man that the franchise so desperately needed, and that makes me so happy as a fan, and excited for what's to come.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie definitely has quite an original idea by having 6 Spider-Mans from different universes get put into one and the animation is amazing although I guess we kinda have to blame this movie for Marvel's obsession with the Multiverse. My only big complaint is that I feel like Prowler should've been the big bad rather than Kingpin as it would've been a much more climactic final battle if Miles was fighting the person he has always trusted in life rather than some rich guy who wants his family back. I honestly just hope the second one is even better Expand

It succeeds as both an art film and as a kid-friendly studio franchise film in unexpected ways. There are a few moments where the animation and story veer towards "direct to video" kiddie cash-grab territory, but overall this film accomplishes more than most big-budget live-action superhero franchise films even attempt. A clever twist on the superhero story. Animation and soundtrack are excellent; lots of surprising twists in the story leading up to a somewhat disappointing and predictable ending. One of the best superhero movies I've seen lately.

The script is fun, funny but also manages to be serious when it needs to be. The characters are all likeable and add to the narrative in good ways, the unique twists on some of the characters are cool, and the ending is satisfying. I would have liked to see maybe a little bit more action, and the animation was a little janky at spots, but this is a solid film and the first in a long time that I'd be willing to see in theaters more than once. If you're a fan of super hero films but want something refreshingly different from the drag-on live action films, this movie is for you. Expand

I would give it a 10 for its heart, it's capturing of the various character personalities, and the skill with which it introduces us to the complex tapestry of multiple universe stuff while still finding plenty of time to tell a good story.

However, I take off two points (I was tempted to take off 5) for one gigantic, and I mean gigantic, gaffe.

If you've kept up with the Spider-Man comics, you know there are multiple parallel universes within the Marvel scheme of things, each one with tweaks and modifications: in one, Peter Parker died and Miles Morales was then bitten by a super duper spider and became Spider-Man; in another, Gwen Stacy was bitten by the spider and became the super hero; her Peter Parker died, too. In our universe, of course, the biggest event in comic book history took place some years back. Gwen Stacy, to whom Peter Parker was engaged, was murdered before his very eyes by the Green Goblin. Spider-Man comics have reiterated and revisited and reminded us of this tragedy consistently ever since. Everyone knows about it. In fact, part of the reason the comic book telling the adventures of parallel universe Gwen has been so successful, is because it is so wonderful to see a version of Gwen who is still alive and, who to boot, is a super hero in her own right.

So it is nothing short of bizarre when in the movie, Peter Parker, our universe Peter Parker, doesn't even recognize his fiancee's twin from another dimension. She recognizes him, but he's oblivious. This just doesn't make sense. It's like a parallel universe version of Lois Lane showing up and Superman not recognizing her. It's a gaffe the size of the Grand Canyon. And a huge disappoint in what was otherwise an nearly perfect comic book movie.

Exciting, fun, treats the character of Spiderman like it should be. I can't say I loved it because some elements of the animation didn't quite work for me, but still this was a fun time at the movies. Overall a low 8 an A-.

Although the animation style was slightly jarring to me at times, out of focus with a blurred 3D look, and the pace is almost completely manic, I guess to keep up with todays attention span. Cut twenty minutes off of this movie and its a perfect ten. Colorful, and fun for the whole gang. Miles Morales is the Spiderman of the next generation and he is absolutely competent to take the reigns. Loved it, well worth the price of admission. "Hey..."

I'm honestly astonished how much I liked this, because before I couldn't be bothered with yet another incarnation of Spider-Man.

Despite a cliched narrative towards the end with "everyone doubts the main hero and he needs to prove himself", type of trope, and inappropriate song choices during dramatic moments - yet that didn't bog down the experience for me.

Still, I wished this movie came out during my childhood when Spider-Man was my bible, as I would've died and gone to heaven from the feeling of glee.

I think the message that anyone can be Spider-Man, no matter your race, gender and sexuality is powerful and empowering.

Some of the best animation I've seen in awhile. Refreshing to find little details that people may not pick up on. It's so creative and visually wonderful, it pops out of the screen. The action scenes are exciting and the comedy was generally funny. Every character is handed with care and it's clear that the creators understand the different incarnations of Spider-Man.

It's tragic seeing mass audiences overlooking this germ - 2018 is the year of the spider.

Aspectos negativos: Nada a ressalvar.

Well, I am shocked to see a great movie come out of a company that only cares about money and nothing else. Not only that but I am also literally shocked to see a new Spider-Man story that's a lot better than the previous Spider-Man stories Sony has been dropping out lately (not including those Spider-Man movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe). This is also coming from their animation studio which gave us terrible movies in the past such as The Emoji Movie and The Smurfs movies. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a movie that doesn't feel influenced by Sony's grave attempts to steal your money. Will we ever see more movies like this though? Hopefully if Sony can wake up their brains for once. Expand

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse actually features a good core story about family and loss, and the action is great. The Kingpin surprised me with his brutality, but let's be reasonable, he would never be able to build a subterranean machine this big without anyone ever noticing. The only real problem is the inclusion of too many Spider-Men from alternate dimensions, they could have just stopped at Miles Morales, alternate Peter Parker and Gwen (aka Spider-Woman). The other 3 Spider-heroes are unnecessary to the plot, but they still delight in their own ways, particularly Spider-Ham.

I went into the theater just hoping to quench my MCU thirst (as of writing, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame are still months away), but I was impressed with this movie. It's not perfect, but it's certainly good. Happy viewing!
