So what makes this latest interpretation of Spidey different? Pretty much everything , and that is both the film’s greatest strength and its biggest weakness.

The biggest change is obviously Spider-Man’s inclusion in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Homecoming embraces this right from the outset.

Both Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and the film’s antagonist Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, feel as if they are living in the shadow of The Avengers.

While this idea of the working class hero vs the working class villain (both of whom are deemed unimportant by the Tony Stark’s of the world) is a good way of framing Spider-Man’s world in a wider context, it does feel a little reductive.

In previous versions of Spider-Man we are used to him being a big deal. He sours through New York’s sky scrappers, saving the day from world ending catastrophes while the public argues about his role as a vigilante and savoir. This time though, the stakes feel much lower in comparison to the likes of Iron Man and Captain America.

Peter’s main mission in Homecoming is to prove himself to Tony Stark, following his recruitment in Captain America: Civil War. He needs to prove that he has what it takes to become that legendary New York defender that we are used to seeing him as.

From a franchise point of view this is a great idea, it means we have a long journey to go on. With Homecoming, Sony and Marvel have potentially set up the superhero equivalent of the Harry Potter series, allowing us to see an actor mature across a decade of films and grow up on screen, learning from each experience and becoming the hero we always knew he could be.

This fresh take relies on the re-framing of Peter as a high school student, something we have seen in both 2002’s Spider-Man and 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. This time though they really nail the high-school aspect of Peter Parker. Rather than 30-year-old actors dressed as teenagers seen in previous iterations, Tom Holland feels like a 15 year old kid, with just the right level of awkwardness and self-doubt.

Holland brings a joy to being Spider-Man that was only glimpsed previously, while at the same time maintaining the morality and compassion that have defined the character for 55 years. Here Spider-Man never feels like a burden for Peter, its something he can’t wait to do.

Likewise Peter’s classmates are re-contextualized. Peter’s relationship with Laura Harrier’s Liz is charming and awkward but never feels like more than a high-school crush rather than a all consuming ‘love of my life’ romance. Tony Revolori’s Flash Thompson is a new breed of douche-bag, a stuck up rich kid who's tormenting of Peter comes more out of jealousy than the more traditional — ‘jock vs nerd’ school bully paradigm. I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Zendaya before Homecoming but apparently she’s a big deal. She plays Michelle, who is a bit of a curve-ball in terms of high-school archetypes, but never the less gets some of the funniest moments of the film.

At the centre of the plot is the class trip to Washington DC, giving us a new visual context for Spidey as he announces himself to the world with a quintessential Spider-Man rescue.

This scene, among others, highlights one of the most jarring changes from an action point of view - Peter’s Stark designed super-suit. The high-tech costume comes equipped with its own on-board AI (similar to Iron Man’s JARVIS) and a plethora of new abilities. While all this tech is fun to see and certainly differentiates Homecoming from previous Spider-Men, it can sometimes take away from what makes him an enduring hero.

Creator Stan Lee has always maintained that the reason Spider-Man endures is that audiences can relate to him — he’s just a kid doing what he thinks is right. By giving Peter the Stark suit it takes away from his own unique abilities, in short, it makes it too easy for him.

What stops this from becoming a film-ruining issue though is the filmmakers clear understanding of Stan Lee’s creation. When it comes to it, Peter will find the strength to do the right thing, both morally and physically, and that is what makes him a hero.

In a key exchange with Tony, Peter confesses — ‘I was just trying to be like you’ to which the mentor replies ‘And I wanted you to be better’. By the end of Homecoming Peter has proved not only that he has what it takes to step up to the Avengers level, but that he is indeed a ‘better’ hero than Tony.

While Stark and the Avengers save the world from messes of their own making, someone has to look out for the little guy. Tom Holland’s Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man is here to stay, the people’s champion in a world crammed with the isolated and often detached heroes of the MCU.

Michael Keaton's Vulture is a real step up in MCU villains who gives an authoritative and relatable perfomance with a real golden scene with himself and Tom Holland in the car. The action is a little unspectacular, it seems like we've seen it all before and Spidey seems a bit too overpowered. The John Hughes style of the film absolutely shines though. Expand

I absolutely loved Tom Holland in his debut during Captain America: Civil War and I loved him as Spider-Man even more in this film. Surprisingly, I even loved the villain played by the one and only Michael Keaton. My only complaints with the film is that it has more than one villain and the other two are underdeveloped as well as the fact that this film just makes Spider-Man seem more like Iron Man 2.0. In the end, this is a fun film with humor, action, and heart and I will give this film a 9.3/10 Expand

As most Marvel flicks the pacing is very good. And it´s family friendly.
It doesn´t give us any of that promised new stuff. We have seen Spiderman do all these things already, and way better. Tom Holland is a very good and cute young Spiderman (he is no Andrew Garfield as an actor though). He delivered. Michael Keaton is excelent as the villain, true quality seasoned actor. The execution is good. And there are a couple of really tense situations in the film that are worth it.
However, there are many cons: I´m definitely not into such a young Spiderman. He looks so small when he´s in his suit. The suit is worse than the one in The Amazing Spiderman. The fact that Spiderman is almost a product of Iron man is a joke. I´m sorry but that´s a total change for the character. It just isn´t Spiderman. During many parts of the film, the action scenes in the dark were confusing. Something that didn´t happen in the many night scenes in the two Amazing Spiderman films with Andrew Garfield. Marvel has done some kind of light comedy as they always do. In general it works as a well connected piece of entertainment. But it doesn´t go beyond that. The emotional connection is not there. The previous Spiderman films were way more involving and emotive.

Tom Holland is very good here, and I really like the ark he goes through. However, the best part of this movie is Michael Keaton as the Vulture. His character was interesting and his performance was even better. The best scene in the movie by far is when they are talking in the car. Expand

And because this is the second reboot in recent years, the 'typical Spider-Man movie' is very much a thing. Loud action, high stakes and soooo much drama. While Homecoming is not lacking great action sequences or emotional character moments, it feels a lot 'lighter' and 'smaller' than previous Spidey films. However, it is by no means a problem, because this younger version of Peter Parker is much more relatable. He is 'just' a highschool student, who can't even talk to the girl he likes. This movie is so realistic in it's depiction of a modern hero as well as an oh so ordinary modern teenager, that you feel like the MCU has finally crafted a world, that makes seemingly supernatural things seem natural. You feel like you could live in this world.
The entire cast does a great job, even though some characters lacked real development. The jokes are great, not overdone, only sometimes annoying and the comedic timing is on point. There are some great oneliners in this movie! The acting, especially from Micheal Keaton and Tom Holland, is top-notch, some of the best in any Marvel movie. Robert Downey Jr. is used sparingly, but in the most effective way, so the inclusion of his character does not seem forced or like a cheap cash grab. I can't give the movie 10 points, because I felt like the score did not carry the emotional scenes enough and that kinda undermined their impact on the viewer. Music is very important and, except for the great surprise at the beginning of the film, I didn't really like any parts of the score enough to remember them. Other than that, a solid, if not great film and definetely one of the MCU's best!

Is it the obvious tonal inconsistencies of the script and its 5+ writers? Or maybe it's the subpar acting -- regardless of Michael Keaton's star power and dramatic triumph. This is not a Spider-Man film; this is simply an obvious to tie-in not only overt progressive themes but the character into the larger Avengers franchise. And at a point when superhero films are becoming more and more commonplace, originality becomes necessary -- a trait Homecoming does not possess. Expand

Are we tired of superhero movies yet? The box office returns would say no, but the ever-increasingly lacklustre reviews of each subsequent Marvel or DC movie releases would suggest otherwise.

The problem is trying to capture the spirit of the comics, translating that onto the screen, whilst also creating an interesting storyline and investing characters.
Clearly it's not easy, but S:H comes closer to this 'perfect formula' than most. Not to say it's a fundamentally flawed movie, because it is, but it's a fun journey from beginning to end and Tom Holland as 'Spidey' is by far the best on screen version we've had.

The story eschews the whole 'origin' element, and follows on from Spidey's appearance in Civil War. We're back to the idea of a character balancing his life as the dull, studious, intelligent, geeky and awkward 'Peter Parker', and his ever-increasing desire to use his prodigious abilities to help others and fight crime.

The fundamental flaw mentioned earlier stems from the notion that this would actually be possible in the modern age, something that the film makes some subtle nods toward from time to time, but also something that you really can't gloss over.
Add to this the now completely overused superhero movie tropes (the main villain being directly related to a character Peter Parker is embroiled with, amongst others) and the narrative falls apart at the end.

But, if you walk into the movie with that level of expectation, you WILL be surprised. The film does come together extremely well, it doesn't feel like it's about half an hour too long (even if some scenes do drag on a fair while), and the big action set pieces are great spectacles.
Throw in some fine acting (Michael Keaton nails his role, and is more menacing when he's not 'The Vulture' than when he's CGI'd up), decent soundtrack, a nice little set of cameo appearances from other Marvel characters, and you get something which is better than I thought it would be.

However, the Superhero genre is now getting into severe overkill levels of releases, and because of that there is a sense of 'Christ, not another one'. For me, that notion of this (or any superhero) movie just being a small part of a larger 'extended universe' diminishes it somewhat.

To start out, I really enjoyed Michael Keaton's adaption of The Vulture, he plays the character so well and so brilliantly as he goes from psychotic madman to sympathetic father. Tom Holland was solid if not okay, thought i still prefer Andrew Garfield's adaption to his I found his performance as Peter/Spider-Man to be commendable. Nothing against Holland but with Holland's adaption we return to the wide eyed Tobey Maguire-ish days of Spider-Man as opposed to Garfield's version which can best be described as whip-smart and likably cheeky, with an undercurrent of teenage angst as well as a sense of arrogance which gave those movies a unique, restless, reckless energy and a welcome sense of danger. Holland's interpretation also feels too relying upon Tony Stark and almost feels like an Iron-Spider-Man than actual Spider-Man. Its the same sense that people take with Christain Bale and his interpretation of Batman. Bale's batman didn't feel as "Batman" enough to some fans, to which I agree but I got that same feeling with Holland here. Though like Bale, Holland did a fine job in the role and its not really a knock on him as much as it is a knock on the script. That being said, I did enjoy it's lighthearted tone to go along with its likable cast with Keaton, Downey Jr, Marissa Tomei and Zendaya being the standouts here. The movie is a good time nontheless, some of my main gripes with this movie is that I felt the movie was trying too hard to be something different when it didn't need to do that, it made no mention of Uncle Ben which to some can be good but Uncle Ben is an core part of what makes Peter who he is. They didn't need to show him getting shot but him going completely unacknowledged throughout the movie bothered me. With that being said, the direction is solid but the script fails it at times but the way that it undercuts some of those small, heartfelt moments for a cheap laugh just came across to me as needless. I really wasn't expecting much from the trailers and clips I saw. I love how Spider-man is a young crime fighter who idolizes the super heroes yet is still trying to figure himself out. When you stop and think about it, this is the first MCU movie that focuses on the street-level hero just trying to help the every day people. This movie also has one of the best villains in any superhero movie in awhile. The Vulture isn't trying to destroy the galaxy or conquer the world, he is just trying to provide for his family and stay under the radar. Speaking of "under the radar" Sony/Marvel cleverly sneaks in another 3 well known Spider-man villains to be used in the future. This version of Spider-man screws up so consistently that it is a wonder he keeps going. Fox movies though are often hit and miss. I have to say the movie is great. Tom Holland owns the role of Peter Parker. Michael Keaton is also just fantastic as the Vulture. Every scene he is in just pops off of the screen. Marisa Tomei is a great take on Aunt May. Robert Downey Jr. is his typical self, smarmy and sort of funny. In general the movie captured a good mixture of suspense, action, and humor. All of the background characters (with one exception) were amazingly well cast. Often times actors are playing rolls that don't make a lot of sense given their profiles (e.g. Donald Glover's cameo) but they are all shout outs to characters with bigger roles in the Spiderverse.

The only casting/plot character that I disliked was Zendaya as Michelle. Her character isn't funny. She is creepy and annoying as heck. She is basically stalking Peter, rude, and just sort of a nasty smarmy person. The reveal at the end that she is "MJ" is also just terrible. They positive press this is getting is just due to the fact that she isn't white. The media goes bonkers any time there is a "strong" female character or a white character is recast as non-white. Since when is "strong" code for snarky? I do not want to see her character get more screen time.

Sure, I love the web-slinger, but I was just thinking "oh, great, another one." This was, of course, before I saw "Captain America: Civil War" and became excited for the film thanks entirely to Tom Holland's performance in the film. Having finally seen the film after months of hype, I can say that, in my humble opinion, this is my personal favorite Spider-Man film. I was so enthralled by the action, the performances (special shoutouts to Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton and Zendaya), the characters themselves, the writing, the visuals, everything. It was a really enjoyable film, and while it changes quite a few things in comparison to other Spider-Man movies, I think this is a good thing, because it helps the film to feel fresh, instead of just being another "Spider-Man" movie. If you've been itching to see "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and haven't gotten to, I highly recommend it. Expand

Finally finding his way to the MCU has managed to keep things fresh despite so many movies having already been made about him. Particularly because of the new angle on the character and some surprisingly welcome changes to classic elements and the supporting cast. Taking Peter Parker back to high-school and having him be a younger, more inexperienced version of Spider-Man that we haven't seen before is great. Being set in the MCU gives us more background as to how Spider-Man works in a world already populated by other, bigger heroes like we would find in the comics. Something that was missing from all of the other movies based on the character.

Homecoming is fast, funny, charming, and features a winning performance from Tom Holland as the popular web-head. The action is spectacular and the stakes are so much more grounded than the world-ending disasters the rest of the MCU's heroes have to deal with. A good thing as this scale is just perfect for the character and something the fans have wanted to see for some time. The movie even delivers the MCU's best villain yet. Moviegoers have been complaining about how stale the villains have been getting in superhero movies for a while now. Well, Micheal Keaton's Vulture does quite a bit to alleviate some of that frustration. His motives are relatable and his operation is more personal. The Vulture is given time to breath as a character and as a result he's the best villain a superhero movie has had since Nolan's Batman trilogy. Plus Keaton is just fantastic.

Homecoming manages to breath some new life into a character we've already seen onscreen quite a few times. It does so by going back to basics with Parker and delivering the character many of us grew up with in the comics. Of course it's own spins on things and a sharp sense of humor help out a lot as well and keep things from being too familiar. Essentially, this is just about everything a Spider-Man fan could want. It's great to see the character in the MCU where all of us wanted him. 8.5/10

Tom Holland kills it not only as the webhead, but as Peter Parker as well. He portrays the character as an everyday school kid who just so happens to have superpowers that he uses to help people in need. THAT'S Spider-Man, and Holland plays the character so well that I'm not going to be able to see him as anybody else now. Michael Keaton also is incredible as The Vulture; he's easily the best MCU villain to date. A motivation, excellent acting, a chilling appearance, ol' Batman has it all. Spider-Man: Homecoming at heart is a high school movie, having a lot more downtime with Parker than any other Spidey movie. Here, it's done beautifully, actually giving us some reason to care about him as a character; he's a nerd, he's socially awkward, he's part of a quiz bowl team, he has a high school crush, he reminded me a lot of myself! That's what I didn't like about Andrew Garfield's portrayal; I just couldn't relate to him and I didn't care about him unless he was in his suit. Here, I cared so much if Peter could balance living a normal life and being a superhero. The characterization of Spider-Man in this movie is fantastic, and while I personally think Tobey Maguire is better, Tom Holland still nails this role, and he his the strongest part of this movie. The action scenes for the most part are fun; they're not as exciting as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, but they're enjoyable and fun to watch. Spidey **** happens, and Holland gets to crack some jokes without ever feeling unnecessary or formulaic. As for issues, despite benefiting a lot from showing Peter as a high-school student, the pacing drags considerably, and there were moments where I just wasn't engaged. Also, as previously mentioned, I felt like the action scenes could have been better; they're not bad, but I just wanted a bit more intensity and weight to them like in Raimi's action scenes. But overall, despite the spread of dull moments, It's the characterization and craft and tone that make this movie better than most Spider-Man movies. It's full of heart, excellently casted, and very well-acted, and I would highly recommend it. Not the best Spidey movie, but the best one since '02.

The second thing is how boring and predictable everything is. There's not a single aspect of the story you can't call well before it happens. It's so heavily cliched as well and that really doesn't help improve things. All in all, It can be a rather boring movie to sit through.

Now the action scenes really weren't all that good. They came off as all flash and no substance. It may appeal to kids who like all the bright colors but to adults, There's no real entertainment here. It's a lot of the same recycled material from past Spider Man films (the fluid combat featured in Amazing Spider Man and the rawness of it featured in the original Spider Man film). The lack of originality definitely takes it's toll.

Now as for the cast, They did an amazing job. Michael Keaton is simply fantastic as the villain and having him opposite of Tom Holland was a great match. You have this highly experienced actor playing this matured villain going against a much younger actor playing a hero who is still learning to be a hero. It makes for some great chemistry when they are on screen. And the rest of the supporting cast does wonders and really has their moments to shine.

All in all, I still view it as a deeply flawed film. It's above the garbage that was Spider Man 3 and Amazing Spider Man 2 but it still doesn't come close to touching the rest of the films.

If you're looking for far superior Spider-man film, go watch Spider-man 1 & 2 staring Tobey Maguire.

Cons
- Rehashed plot from the 2002 Spider-man film.
- Supposed to be a reboot but no backstory about how he got his power. I think as a high schooler he'll be even more troubled/confused by his new power and Uncle Ben should be in this, not Iron Man.
- Too many gadgets, overly advanced technology ruins the classic Spider-man image. Spider-man that I knew is already advanced without much of technology, because he's not Iron Man. He already got spider senses, ability to cling to most surfaces, super strength/agility, and rapid healing.
- Overly diverse characters doesn't help the story at all. It confuses the viewers. - The jokes aren't funny. The movie begins with a politically correct joke, wth.
- Aunt May supposed to be a classic wise woman who raised Peter with kind words and old time philosophy. This aunt May can't even cook and way too young, she'll probably gonna get another uncle Ben sometime soon.
- Where's uncle Ben again? Why Aunt May never talk about him? Didn't she loved him to death? Oh right this is 2017, she doesn't care about him no more.
- Ain't Peter supposed to be the opposite of Tony Stark in terms of financial, that's why he took that photo journalist job in the first place to help his aunt pay rent. Weird seeing him eating with aunt May in a restaurant so casually. I'd rather see him juggling part time job while also busting crime and school works. He got way too much time on hands.
- His high school best friend is one hell of an annoying guy.

Pros
- Cool CGI and Visual Effects.
- Iron Man & his driver.

The movie itself is hilarious and it does not feel forced, something that in my perspective is a big problem with most of the Marvel movies, this one is funny because it is for itself, natully. We see Peter evolve and grow as a complex hero, and the film leave us hunger for more, the most important after all is that after 2 reboots, this film feels fresh and new, i really hope this is the beginning of something bigger! I get it, the gritty superhero movies of the the recent past have been done to death, but if there is one superhero that doesn't need additional characters for comic relief it's Spider-man. In this movie, nearly every secondary or tertiary character thinks they're comedians: Michelle, Nick, Flash, Tony Stark, Happy Hogan, The Vulture's tech guy, the Academic Decathlon teacher, the inexplicable Karen the Suit Lady, and even a little bit of Aunt May (though most of humor with her at the center focuses on "Ha, your aunt is hot *herr derr*). Tom Holland shines as Peter Parker, and he's surrounded by a cast of impressively talented young actors. They all have great chemistry with one another.

One of the biggest things going for the film, in addition to the pure sense of joy it strives toward, is its villain. Michael Keaton gives us one of the few deeply interesting antagonists in the MCU. The movie actually manages to surprise as well. There are a couple of moments that made my audience gasp, which is something I don't often experience with comic book films.

It all adds up to a joyful experience with a breezy pace, tons of hear, and genuinely well-realized characters that are almost absurdly likable. In terms of pure summer fun, this is probably the best you'll experience in 2017.

The Good: I really enjoyed a younger peter parker. We got to explore the life of a unpopular, smart, and dorky high school kid that was gifted with incredible abilities and we get to see those abilities blossom and his character transform into the spiderman that we all know and love. Tom Holland did a great job playing peter parker and spiderman. They freshened up the story this time too. They didn't drag us through the spider bite or uncle Ben story thankfully, they focused solely on peters transformation into a hero. Michael Keaton was amazing as vulture. They really fleshed out his character and you even understood his plight and felt for him at times. Anyone in his situation might have made similar choices. The culture suit looked great and the fight scenes are really fun to watch and kept you guessing. My only real problem that I saw with this rendition of spiderman is that even though I think the suit being all "teched" out was a really cool idea, I felt like it overshadowed his powers a bit. Welcome home Spidey.

Sam Raimi and Marc Webb have been the only ones favored in adapting the comics of the amazing Spider-Man to live-action movies, one with more notoriety than the other, but, after all, both managed to be entertaining proposals with their dissimilar varieties. Anyhow, the successes didn't last long, causing the retention of Sony's projects to keep on making popcorn movies. Such time of rehab had an expiration date, exactly, until 2015, the year in which the film studio announced, with presumption, the deal with Stan Lee's production studio for bringing back the carefree hero from Queens, something that amazed both fans and Marvel Studios logical chronology as to the introduction of new characters, who will soon be present in the magnanimous American epopee par excellence, at least we hope that. The first step, Holland signing up, then Watts, later an extravagant number of screenwriters, Keaton as an antagonist, Michael Giacchino usual adding and the predisposed tools by the studio allowed the coming of the first great adventure of Spidey. And we're in luck, since its director takes the overblown mold of summer film away, in order to manufacture a coming-of-age movie portraying the day by day of one of the most well-liked and beloved superheroes of the MCU in a fascinating way.

The script doesn't endure the consequences of the American trend focused on saturating plot construction of screenwriters, here, idea assortment works wonderfully, endowing this origin story with a brand-new, flippant, jovial and even original air; a "Deadpool" for teens. The base argument benefits by omitting info that should already be general culture for any connoisseur of the character, besides the succession of situations as funny as suggestive that will keep you on the edge of your seat, either by struggles or chases, jokes or dramas or, specifically, certain twists that lead to an enthusiastic and novice thriller atmosphere of thriller throughout the third act. The artistic performance of the sequences is on target, not as mega-maniac and grandiloquent as previous studio movies, however, "Homecoming" doesn't appeal to big things, it's a unique and necessary film among so much formality, politics, and honor driven by Captain America and Tony Stark. For the most avid and purist comic-lovers, the change of appearances, both physical and cultural, of some characters could be fateful, a modernization used in order to tie in with the strong egalitarian movement that becomes meaningful in the film world. Zendaya, Laura Harrier or Jacob Batalon provide the best of their characters, even so, they're not a copy of the original characters, With what they will be blessed, both fanatics and spectators, is fidelity to the circumstances of books, each scene is loaded with references and easter-eggs from Marvel's movies and comics, sublime and drama ones as the catharsis final when Peter is trapped under the rubble. These moments accompanied by vigorous and authentic treatment of the main character. When a movie opens by putting in front the villain and not the hero, denotes the commitment of the studio conceiving Keaton's role, creating the most human and realistic villain of its universe, of course along with his stunning performance. Although his first sightings don't enjoy a strong impact, from the middle of the second act, the actor breaks down the screen, in detail, in the final twist.

Visually, "Homecoming" has highlighted points in scenes where tension components prevail, such as that sonorous attenuation when he enters in the prom, the inconvenience in the Washington monument or the boat's breakdown. Accepting indie roots of the director, serene nuance would be obvious, so it's not possible to expect artistic displays at the heights of "Doctor Strange", even the visual dullness of the previous installments by Sony. Likewise, we witness that Giacchino's score doesn't stand out at all, of course, leaving aside the classic and glorious Spider Man theme song in the opening, glorifying the logo of the studio. It's noticeable the most measured pace in action sequences with respect to its competitors, however, CGI cessation, protagonist's gymnastic talent, and grateful set pieces are what makes the movie so special.

Watts rejoins our beloved Spidey into the cinematic panorama, with the help of a motion picture that enjoys the delights of independent and commercial movie simultaneously, delivering magnetic entertainment, placing Marvel's film far above that fabulous film by Sam Raimi and Alfred Molina. Carefree, hilarious and intriguing, Holland's Spider- Man takes very seriously what he is doing, delivering one of the most loyal films to comics, still being spectacular and fun. Sony already has a vast idea catalog for the Spider - Man universe, hopefully, it won't happen again with their plans what occurred a few years ago. Blessed Marvel!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's ironic that in a culture over-saturated with superhero films, where film "fans" are decrying the state of the big budget pic and Hollywood studio moviemaking in general, continue to overpraise these same films year after year. You can't say that superhero films are "product" and aren't doing anything innovative or interesting or new and then every time a new one comes out heap tons of praise on the one aspect that differentiates it from the rest - "Wonder Woman" is a great film because it reverses gender (but does nothing else of note) and Spider-Man is because it actually stars an actor close to the age of the character he's playing and draws comparison to John freakin Hughes because it takes places in a high school and that's what Marvel execs are touting.

First off, Homecoming is a pretty terrible subtitle for multiple reasons. It flat out sounds bad is the most alarming - who thought this was acceptable? And because the eponymous Homecoming in the film really doesn't serve that much dramatic purpose. The movie kind of wants you to think it does, but it doesn't and this really applies to the film as a whole.

Tom Holland is a fitting Peter Parker. He captures the nervousness and goofiness of callow Peter, it not exactly his science geekiness (sure he invents his webs, but that's for fanboys and does nothing for his personality like it was supposed to in the comics). For a while, this is a flick about a boy trying to find his place in the world. Navigating friends, girls, school and of course being a superhero. These parts work.

Then the film transitions (and fairly early on) into a one-note movie about a boy wanting to be an Avenger. Not a hero, not a boy becoming a man by learning responsibility, just an action figure with a cool suit. The film takes the entire premise of Spider-Man the hero - "With great power comes great responsibility" - and turns that into a dilemma about learning the powers of one's supersuit. Tony's pivotal line in this movie is the most embarrassing misrepresentation of a character's identity I've yet seen in one of these kinds of films - "If you're nothing without the suit then you're nothing." - except of course that's not even remotely true. The suit is basically an Iron Man costume in spandex and Peter spends large chunks of time trying to figure out fancy custom web configurations. Not learning responsibility or growing up or maturing, just you know, playing with his new complex super-toy.

Suffice it to say that the final revelation that happens during the Homecoming scene means nothing. Peter doesn't have to do any growing in order to succeed, he just lucks into finding Vulture and then does everything he was told not to but this time around the world is saved so it's fine. And the joke they make at the end about Peter becoming an Avenger (it's a test right?) is so stupid and out of place dramatically that it just shows how completely thematically confused this whole film is.

Final thoughts: MJ drop mattered none - her longing look completely unearned. Keaton is great as Vulture, his motivation relevant, but grossly underutilized and developed. Action scenes are choppy for the most part. Also, is Laura a cool girl or a geek? Somehow both and yet inexplicably likes Peter for no reason whatsoever. Peter gets it all, learns nothing. Millennial Spider-Man indeed.

Also this film loves it some Raimi Spider-Mans (don't we all?). The upside down kiss tease. The line about Aunt May not understanding Peter's body's "changes." If only...

The story was fine, it was fresh compared to the other marvel movies, this was more of a comedy than a super-heroe movie, it stayed consistent but I never felt invested in what was going on...But that twist in the last third of this film was a pleasant surprise, it gave a more weight in the climax between Spider-Man and the vilain and it made me feel more invested in the story.
The problem with the story is that it has to many jokes so it does take the intensity of the scene sometimes and the humor can be hit and miss but other than that the story was a descent.

The characters made this film fun, Peter Parker is just a kid who wants to impress the guy he idolises (Tony Stark) and her love interest, he's relatable and not annoying.
The vilain was the character that surprised me, the other marvel movies rarely had a good vilain in my opinion, this vilain howether is great, you can understand why he decided to do what he does in this film and he can be intimidating,iron-man was also great, he tries to be a father figure but he is flawed so it's a difficult situation and he didn't over stay his welcome and the other characters were fun and had their moments.

I was impressed with this film, it feels like a different marvel movie and I'm really glad that I saw it, it's easily in my top 5 marvel films and it's a great summer movie.

Basically Spiderman:Homecoming was fun, this is a really fun movie and it is one of the best Spider man movies ever made.

Before Sony shared the rights for Spiderman with Marvel I've always wondered what it would be like for Marvel Studios to direct a Spiderman movie and when I saw this movie I was completely satisfied. Tom Holland's performance as Spiderman is just Wow,I hate saying this because Tobey Maguire's Spiderman to me is my favorite but Tom Holland is the best Spiderman we've had so far.His Peter Parker is the right kind of nerdy but he witty, awkward and assertive at times which is the perfect blend. His performance as Spiderman is equally impressive because he is funny but serious when needed to be which is just great.

Now obviously what makes movie different is that this I not an origin story but also this movie isn't as dramatic as the Spiderman films before this which is good because this movie's tone is near perfect for a spiderman movie. This movie has good comedy from character lines to just funny moments and is the funniest Spiderman movie so far. Also as I said Spiderman:Homecoming is really fun,it's lighter tone is needed because this is a movie about a kid in highschool being a Superhero and the movie clearly explains what its like to balance the highschool aspect of the movie and Superhero theme.

The scale of this movie is also small as Homecoming isn't about a city being destroyed but about stopping thieves how are selling dangerous weapons and Spiderman has to stop them which was perfect for. A high school movie. Most Characters are good in this movie like Ned who is Peter's best friend has good chemistry between them and Ironman was good because he showed up were he was needed and didn't were he wasn't and had some great emeotionalt scenes with Spiderman which helped drive the story forward.

Now the villain,Michael Keaton's Vulture I must say wasn't really a villain in this movie but an antagonist mostly as you understand his reasons for being the Vulture and he is a person who cares for his family so when there was a plot that involved him and Spiderman facing off you get why and where its going. Other characters were good and necessary like Peter's Rival Flash Thompson who was funny and not just a stereotypical bully,Also Zendeya's character was funny and Peter's love interest had something significant to do and added to the story more that just being a love interest for Spiderman.

The problems with this film is that Aunt May is just plain Marisa Tomei's performance wasn't bad but I felt she didn't add anything significant to the movie and even when there was an attempt for an emotional scene with Tom Holland it didn't stick. Also I have to say the final battle between Spiderman and Vulture is disapointing and underwhelming as the action is the final act falls flt and the conclution is abrupt and just plain.

What i found very interesting about this movie is just this movie felt like an adventure, comedy and action film at different parts of the movie and the balance was spot on.The chase scenes where suspensful and exciting, every time Tom Holland was Spiderman it was a joy to watch and one important thing is that I never got bored watching this flim. The suit did some really cool stuff without saying too much and the emotional arcs in this movie were well delivered and perfectly timed.

Spiderman Homecoming was like a breath of fresh air it was fun, funny, emotional when needed and just a really good movie

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had high hopes for this movie given the good reviews, etc., but I found this new, Avenger-in-training version of spidey pretty disappointing. Gone are many of the trademark characteristics that make spider-man interesting, like his trademark sarcasm, the personality contrasts between Peter and his alter ego, and his overriding sense of purpose based on the murder of his uncle. Instead we get goofy over-earnestness, no interesting character conflicts, and a single-minded drive to become an Avenger. Really? This combination for me at least just didn't work. Expand

The same Spider-Man!

After the film "Captain America: Civil War" everyone was waiting for the long awaited return of Spider-Man. Especially where his appearance was one of the memorable moments of the film. Marvel and Sony made an agreement that finally beneficial for us — we got the same spider-Man from the comics. Tom Holland suited for the role of a young and inexperienced Peter Parker. Believe me, if we have at least 3 of the film, we see the character development. Holland, though young, but plays very dignified and conveys all the emotions. Believe him. He is torn between his heroic life, and chooses a heroic life even, not because he wants to spend impression on Tony Stark, Peter just be himself — a hero. After watching the film, many were not satisfied with a large presence of non-white students. Peter Parker lives in Queens, there are so many "colored" people, so don't be surprised. Environment Peter good from his aunt to friend ned, though there are some silly scenes, and his love interest played awful. Tony Stark in this film are not so many and almost all the scenes shown in the trailer. Tom Holland looks great with Robert Downey, although the latter presses charisma in joint scenes. The film will be and happy, it put Tony stark to look after Peter, it will give us some funny scenes. Despite the fact that this movie is more about Peter Parker than Spider-Man, we got the canonical Spidey from the comics. Yes, he is: clever, brave, always joking, talking a lot. Only in the film, he has not yet experienced. Spider-man Tom Holland conveys the plasticity of the character, the humor, the fact that he likes to talk, besides his suit was there a lot of cool features. Villain the Vulture was played by the talented Michael Keaton. And it is a strong villain with a clear motivation (what is important). He is a villain not because he wants to take over the world or wandering aimlessly to kill everyone. No. He is a villain because there's no other way. He needs to take care of his family, provide for his wife and daughter, and the other way except robbery, he did not find. Empathize with him and understand that he is a victim, as they say "not we such, life such". His costume is cool! It combines comic book canons and manufacturability. In addition to the vulture showed Shocker, but it is very minor villain was. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is one of the best films about Spider-Man. For some, it will be the best. In the film we get not only a confrontation between spider-Man and the Vulture, but the development of Peter Parker, his emergence as defender of the city. May we not seen another scene with the spider bite and the murder of uncle Ben. Let we many times saw them and know what's what. Humor is pleasing, the Vulture and spider-Man gorgeous, they are excellent rivals. The plot is ordinary, no surprises, probably at the end of the day you already don't remember what movie. It is light, and quickly disappears.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spiderman homecoming was pretty disappointing, but you can't please everybody right? The SJW comments throughout the movie really made me feel uncomfortable, and they were totally unnecessary. The constant stuttering dialog was absolutely terrible and most of the relationships felt forced between characters. Why do I need to see this dumb ass hand shake twice in the movie? It just felt really out of place. Toward the ending when Vulture and Peter Parker had their little conversation in the car, I thought that's when the acting really shined. The guy who plays Spiderman can act, but the director did not utilize him correctly in the whole movie until that scene. A few continuity errors with the AUDI SPONSORED DRIVING SCENE. Parker steals the Audi from flash which had its headlights on already, and smashes into a few bikes. Then Parker drives off with the headlights magically turned off, but the tails are on ( meaning the headlights are on too). He had to ask his boy how to turn them on. Also there is no damage from him hitting the bikes with the front end of the car. I give this movie a 5 because of Hannibal Buress, Michael Keaton and the chick who plays Aunt May. Other than that, take your kids to see it, I am by far no die hard marvel fan but this movie was a total cringe fest. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another solid movie for the MCU. Right from intro the Spiderman theme is playing and you know we've got another hit on our hands. Movie is brilliantly paced and Tom gives us a great peter who's both intelligent, superhuman but very human at the same time. The suit looks amazing and very practical and the AI adds to Spiderman's character. Michael Keaton does an amazing job convincing the audience his motivations and the Vulture suit is just grand in design making for a memorable MCU villian. The fight/action scenes are truly enjoyable and this movie can be watched multiple times over. It doesn't feel like a Marvel movie and yet it makes you feel it's part of the MCU. Lastly Tony has just the right amount of involvement and doesn't overstay his welcome. It leaves the audience wanting more in Spiderman 2 and the Infinity war. Expand

Zendaya was a pleasant surprise and Marisa Tomei is such a scene stealer. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were the right Peter Parker at the time; but Holland gives the character an extra something special. Expand

With a lot of baggage when it comes to spiderman (two ok, one good, one bad, one terrible) I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. But Marvel proves one more time that they can make great movies in spades. Spiderman: Homecoming does something that 5 previous movies hadn't been able to do: capture both the base spirit of the character, and really capture the spirit of part of the teenage experience (which for Hollywood, it's a lot). Apart from the Guardians's movies, this is probably the most times that I laughed out loud in a superhero movie (maybe even more that the Guardians, although can't be sure), the humor is excellent and really works with how the characters are portrayed. And even if the fun and laughs are present in general, that doesn't stop the movie from telling a good, coherent story about both the pains of growing up, and nails one of the core aspects of Spiderman, that even if he is in the Avengers, of the FF, or any other team or event, Spiderman is supposed to be a character you not only can root for, or aspire to be like, but is a character that you can relate to, a character that is here with the "little people" not up there in Olympus. And the movie really nails that aspect down, with excellent performance from Tom Holland that so far seems to be the best Spiderman so far. Add that excellent appearances by Robert Downey Jr., Jon Fravreau, and a nice villain in Michael Keaton's Vulture, and you have a really have a great homecoming dance. Welcome home, Spiderman, hopefully this is the beginning of great things to come. Final verdict: 9.0 Expand

He fits the role perfectly, but there are a number of tropes found in the Marvel universe that continue in this installment. Michael Keaton was great as usual and Donald Glover's appearance was welcomed. Worth the price of a ticket, but not something I'll be trying to see again any time soon. Expand

It's a sugar coated pop culture sha-bang with so many contemporary elements that it'll look silly 20 years from now. Oh, and Flash Gordon looks like a goober, and doesn't sell the persona.

The Story itself is rather weak, your usual actionmovie plot we have these days. The Spiderman character was presented way better than in any other Spiderman movie before though. He was relatable and cool. Even the villain was amazing, you could clearly understand his motif and background, i loved that.
The one thing that convinced me with this movie though was the sounddesign, music and camerawork. The scene when her father drove her and Spiderman to the ball was so extremely intense and exciting that it had me biting my tongue. Very very amazing.

Tonally it's completely different and it seems to be aimed at high schoolers rather than an all encompassing age group. And so I felt a bit old watching it. It's very, very family friendly and seems like a live action version of the recent Disney Spider-Man cartoons. Story-wise... it brings utterly nothing new to the table... It's the same as all the rest of the Spider-Movies, even down to the now, prerequisite grand rescue of civilians in trouble. And lastly... No spidey senses!!! Really!! Muhammad Ali without his snappy banter... A tiger without it's stripes... Silver without shine... A very scandalous move on the writers part. Though all in all.. being a Spider-Man fan... I did have a good time, not excellent but good. Expand
