This movie trades in a lot of the originals substance to create a young man's coming of age story, which means it's full of drama. The style and story telling (along with some good laughs) carry it through to create an excellent experience. The real issue with this movie other than being extra sappy, is honestly how uncontained the story seems. It's a long movie that doesn't really end, this is either due to the fact that they knew there was always going to be another movie or because they were trying to keep the run time down. This causes the movie to need another film to finish the tale, which the first one never needed. Expand

Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is without a doubt one of if not the best Spider-Man films I've ever seen in recent memory and dare I say surpass both it's predecessor and No Way Home. The first thing that immediately springs to mind asSpider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is without a doubt one of if not the best Spider-Man films I've ever seen in recent memory and dare I say surpass both it's predecessor and No Way Home. The first thing that immediately springs to mind as to what makes this movie a masterpiece is that it took what made the first movie work and dialed it all up to 11 and never letted go of that in even the slightest and it properly implemented fan service into the story properly better than No Way Home ever did. The first thing on what I mean about that is how the main things I loved about the first movie were the characters, complex story moments, color palettes, soundtrack, and Easter eggs. Firstly, the characters old and new are phenomenal with their complex story arcs and moments in the spotlight and it leaves you hanging on who to root for in the end when you think about both sides of the story, there's so many more art styles and color palettes and they are utilized so well that it becomes a genuine treat to look at, I didn't ever think they could ever improve on the soundtrack from the first movie but those people somehow went ahead and did that with so many new tracks fitting appropriately into the action and silent moments, the fan service is properly utilized here by making it connect to the story here and it feels understandable unlike No Way Home, finally of course, the Easter Eggs here are simply phenomenal and have so many more moments to showcase themselves and it's always satisfying to spot them when rewatching the film. Overall, this movie is what happens when you have people who love your source material enough to commit to it 100% and I cannot both recommend this film enough and get ready for the last film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We are lucky to live in a world where the spider verse series was created, the ONLY downside is the amount of events that go down in the final 10 minutes to have a "to be continued" queue. We have just witnessed miles in an alternative universe becoming prowler, Spot has returned stronger than before into his original universe, and gwen has assembled a spider squad of old and new members from the 2 films, and on top of that, Miguel's (Spiderman 2099) squad is on the hunt for miles. The film is amazing but the ending just felt like a loose knot with no conclusion. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great film. The multiverse both makes sense and functions in this universe, every character is likeable and well developed, Spot is such a great character and especially how he starts as a nobody and becomes "The Villain" The only con is the ending, I understand that it would be too long but we waited half a decade for this film... How long until the next? I will say the art stye has charm and is unique which is something nice to see these days... Overall an excellent film that achieves everything it sets out to accomplish only having a cliffhangar ending being a con. Good work Sony Expand

It's barbarically inventive and delightfully entertaining. But as they say, you can never have too much of a good thing. The style is distracting, the plot succumbs to abrupt tonal shifts, the structure is brutalised by never-ending humour, and the creativity is clueless about when it has crossed the line into the silly-verse. Among the random vignettes, it's difficult to not imagine a cleaner, more edited movie. Nevertheless, this admirably isn't even close to being a catastrophe. This sequel is actually quite well done, very entertaining, and frequently moving. building indefinitely through exposition and naturally occurring narrative turns. Expand

I really like the inclusion of Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya). He is serious, yet funny with his British accent, which is also Daniel Kaluuya’s native language.

The story continues the journey of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who has been Spider-Man for a year and four months. As he navigates the multiverse, Miles must find his place while facing his past and confronting new challenges.

This film delivers an exciting multiverse adventure, packed with surprising Easter eggs for Spider-Man fans to enjoy. The storyline fits perfectly within the realm of animated superhero movies, providing a solid foundation for the narrative of superheroes. The film has a lot of twists and turns, which keeps the story engaging throughout. The camera work is incredible and seamless, especially how they formatted the graphics and shape patterns, with no noticeable issues. Shameik Moore delivers an outstanding performance as Miles Morales, embodying the essence of both Spider-Man and Miles, who is just a kid that has superpowers. Hailee Steinfeld portrays an ideal daughter and friend who cannot understand why there is chemistry between her and Spider-Man, which showcases her exceptional acting abilities. Jason Schwartzman, as The Spot, brings an intriguing twist and laughter with a sense of darkness to the character, challenging our expectations. The movie concludes with exceptional music and an ending that left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating the next installment.

The film’s message: "You can't save everyone you want," reminds viewers of the limitations that come with being a hero and how you shouldn’t forget to be yourself. It's important to note that there is a small amount of profanity in this film, so parents should take that into consideration. I give Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse 4 out of 5 stars and I recommend it for 12 to 18, plus adults. It swings into theaters June 2, 2023. By Rayce S., KIDS FIRST!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spider-Verse 2 a very well done continuation, the strong point is the animations, the sound quality and the soundtrack which is incredible, Miles Morales faces family problems in the film like any 15 year old teenager does, but in Miles Morales the reasons of these problems are different from other teenagers but it demonstrates a feeling that we all feel when we are/were in that phase and that is charming. The story of the film is very solid, I liked the story but for some it may seem like a pure cliche. The movie didn't have an ending, it simply ended with a "to be continued", this ending serves for a sequel to the movie that comes next year, and even though it didn't have an ending I liked it haha.
I recommend it to everyone, a masterpiece.

As such, it ruins the flow of the movie for me as just when the story starts spinning at some surprising (and exciting) climax, the film suddenly ends. At least, we only have less than a year to wait for the conclusion of this storyline. Expand

To the people who want the movie to end and say that it’s for money, watch the movie again.Unless you strip it down and cut out half the characters and all the jokes,it would be like a 5 hour movie. It’s only fair to split it.I would understand if the plot was just one half, either spot or the spider society, but to make this movie and the next one good, they needed to take their time on the characters and motivations. Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse is a love letter to everything Spider-Man meant to the world during his 61 years of existence.

It’s an exciting, surprising adventure full of heart, emotions, action but also (and mostly) of human feelings and deeply developed characters that feel real and true to their comicbooks counterparts. The team at Sony Pictures continues to expand the boundaries of animation techniques and delivers something truly extraordinary: everything is incredibile to look at, the attention to detail is simply insane, and each style fits the characters perfectly. The story of Miles Morales keeps getting more interesting, with him going further down a path to really make him a great, unforgettable Spider-Man. The movie is so fun, but also really really deep. The music is simply perfect. Countless easter eggs will make every fan happy and satisfied, because it’s amazing to see how much the writers love and wanted to represent everything about Spidey and his lore. It’s definitely a must-have, probably one of the best comicbook movies ever, and one of the greatest animated movies of all time.

Miles's story was upgraded to the next level so is Gwen's. Miguel O'Hara poses as an amazing anti hero like villain. Along with the spot which was unsettling but they could've did a better job in making him even more unsettling. All the small cameos and details were perfect.

The action scenes are generally epic and creative - but sometimes it's just hard to follow so many things happening at once. The character moments are heartfelt, the dialogs are well written, the jokes are snappy. Slightly crowded. Some scene are outright goofy - but that's most likely deliberate. The ending was quite controversial. Could have been more seamless. Overall a true gem in the flush of soulless garbage that Marvel and DC produces these days. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this is very hard to say which one is better because I feel like I don't have any major complaints about either one just some things are done just/about as well as the first: The character of Miles Morales, the sound/music, the voice acting, the fan service/references, the villain, etc. The originality/freshness of it is something to mention because Into the Spider-verse brought all these things to the table I still do find it amazing that it was able to feel original and fresh at all because Spider-verse brought so many things to the table but this film and the previous film are perfect at taking tropes from Spider-man stories and turning them on their head/examining them to make these films feel unique and you could make the case that both of these films are parodies of the Spider-man and the superhero genre as a whole but it's hard to call them that because they are just so respectful to both of those things and whenever they need to be serious they are serious and when they need to be goofy they are goofy but I feel like this was one of those aspects of the first film that was next to impossible to top since the first one was just so amazing at it and the fact that it even feels original/fresh at all is an accomplishment. Some are done even better even though they weren't problems with the first. These elements just topped the greatest of the same elements of the first which is a challenging feat. The animation was outstanding at its worst and this is easily one of if not the greatest animations (As in animated visuals) in film, (even though the original’s animation was also outstanding.) the humor, the fight scenes, Spider-Gwen, etc. And some are done slightly worse though that's not because it's bad and more that it's not as good as what some of the first did: I do have mixed feelings on this film's cliffhanger ending while the original's ending was perfect but this cliffhanger is interesting because I do think I will either grow to like or dislike the cliffhanger more once if the next film depends on how they follow through with it and usually with cliffhangers you know what to feel without having to watch the next installment. Though I feel I have to give the film praise for its twist at the end. Also, I feel like I didn't know where to put this category but about half of this movie is exposition and no one is talking about it since it delivers it so well that no one notices how much exposition there was. Also when I started to see some of the advertisements for this film and understand what the story would be my main worry was the fact that I thought it might fall into the trap of forgetting the fact of "It's a bad idea to go outside of your universe." But thankfully they were able to explain that away by people being able to wear devices that keep them from glitching out (and eventually dying if they stay in another dimension for too long) while they are in another dimension. BTW I do feel like Peter B. Parker and his story were what elevated that film because it was just the perfect example of someone who hit rock bottom, what happens when we're past our prime and learning to rise through other people helping us rise. While I feel like the thing that elevated this film was Spider-Gwen who lost her best friend and that makes it so that her father hates Spider-Gwen without knowing that it is her daughter and then isn't able to see the only friend that she made and when her father discovers her identity he still tries to arrest her so she is completely alone and I feel like this is a great example of what happens when someone feels isolated and alone because she immediately goes to this shady organization that is run by Spider-man 2099 and then once she reunited with Miles she doesn't know how to feel because know she doesn't feel alone anyone because she is with him but she also knows that she can't be with him because he is supposed to be kept out of this organization that she is a part of. Then she and this shady organization gets proven right with Miles saving the security officer which makes the entire universe start to get destroyed because of it. Then once the person who is alone finds shady people to be with once they realize how bad these people are with letting innocent people die, hunting down Miles because they are so devoted to their belief that all canon events need to play out and also that by working with Spider-man 2099's army she betrayed her one true friend in Miles Morales. She then realizes that while she may be alone this isn't the right place to be so she then gets sent back to her dimension and then meets back with her father who she was able to connect with again because he felt the loss of his daughter which made him try to make amends with her and regrets what he did she also knows that he quit the police because of his guilt and she also realizes that there is a way to prevent canon events of happening so she tries to save her one true friend while she can. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty good half movie

It was a pretty good movie, and I liked the increase in cameos. They really seemed like they were given more freedom with this movie as opposed to the last one. The only issue is that despite being a full 2 1/2 hours, it still doesn’t have an ending. Additionally, in an infinite multiverse, wouldn’t there be multiple near identical universes, meaning multiple colliders and other situations exactly like mile’s. The fact that there are so many blue and red spidermen, but only one spider Gwen is just weird. Also I am slightly disappointed that John Mulaney didn’t reappear as spider ham (aside from a short voice clip from the last movie.) although he was in rehab at the time, so it’s no big deal. I liked the movie, but it just abruptly ended, when it really shouldn’t have. There are also numerous other plot holes that I don’t even feel like mentioning, one example being that Gwen’s photo with miles didn’t glitch out of existence. This movie was only made because Sony needs to make a spider man movie every 4 years.

The biggest standout is its absolutely breathtaking yet somehow seamless blending of a wide variety of animation and filmmaking styles. So many frames of this film are truly jaw-dropping (particularly the scenes involving Gwen and The Spot, which look like they came from an art museum at points), but the film isn't just a pretty face. The wide cast of characters, both new and from the previous films, are a delight to follow, with Miles, Gwen, and Spider-Punk being the true standouts, with their respective voice actors doing a great job as well. The story and humor are equally as strong as the first film, but this film further explores what it means to be Spider-Man and how we find our place in a complex, messy world. Furthermore, Daniel Pemberton's score is absolutely phenomenal again and Metro Boomin's original music is a welcome addition as well. I truly cannot praise this film enough and everyone involved, from the writers to the animators. We need more of this in both animation and Hollywood in general, and I truly cannot wait til Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out next year. This is a must watch and, once again, transforms the entire medium of animation in a way that puts Disney to shame. Expand

Although I feel the 'Superhero' film genre is oversaturated and has been slowly declining in quality; I am happy to say that this movie has been excluded from the current downturn. Across the Spider-Verse's beautiful and fluent animation, great story, and spectacular acting are all examples of filmmaking in its purest and most creative form. The only problem's I have with the film are centered around some issues with its pacing, primarily how it ends on a massive cliffhanger, and that some of the audio was quite hard to hear, which could be a problem with my local theater's equipment and not the movie itself. You should absolutely watch Across the Spider-Verse, but ready up for a lengthy wait to get a solid conclusion to the story set up in the film. Expand

I'm not gonna say the criticisms to avoid spoiling the movie, but this is definitely a game changing movie that I honestly think improves on Into The Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros Movie. The Mario movie has a confusing plot, but Across The Spider-Verse keeps the plot together so well that its groundbreaking animation styles, tonal themes, and phenomenal character development really fit in the plot very well and keep things entertaining. I was entertained the entire time in the movie theater that even the cliffhanger even gets me even more hoped for the sequel, especially since I know there's gonna be even more to the story. And I'm honestly glad there's a cliffhanger, since the movie is literally two hours and twenty minutes long and a doubled runtime will honestly make things boring, though for the fans who are into the story of Miles and Gwen would be interested to see the story's conclusion. This has to be one of the greatest and best movies I've ever seen in 2023, might see it a 2nd time in a movie theater! Expand

Just as the lights dimmed, I was told this was a two-part film and I groaned. Why drag it out? But then the film starts and even at over 2 hours, I was itching for more.

Gwen opens the film and its action-packed and brings up straight back into the ground-breaking animation style from the first film, and after a confrontation with her cop dad, we learn how she joins the other across the Spider-Verse gang.

We get an intimate glimpse of the Morales family dynamic and the strains Mile’s superhero’ing causes. Their interactions are realistic and awkward, the over the top metered with genuine moments.

The film explains the multiverse in probably the most coherent way in recent history, with the idea of disruption of “canon events” lead to the destruction of the universe in which that disruption occurred. Lots going on! There are a couple of twists that are carefully set up throughout the film so when they’re revealed, it pays off. The cinema I was in literally gasped in unison at them.

The main villain comes from humble beginnings to ultimate top-tier bad guy, and we understand why this happens. It’s quite uncomfortable to see how, due to no fault of his own, the villain is made fun of, not taken seriously and dehumanised until he is driven to prove his worth in the most maniacal way possible.

I understand this is a movie with multiple Spider-People, but at times the film feels bloated and repetitive, and some bits could have definitely been removed. The main antagonist Spider-Man – leader of the group – is well-crafted, imposing and eventually menacing, and having our Peter Parker make an appearance is welcomed. Across the Spider-Verse is quite as impactful as the first film, but I don’t think that was a realistic expectation to have. The visual style is out of control and coherent at the same time but you may find yourself having to close your eyes for a moment to reset your optic nerves.

The plot twist cliff-hanger? Dang.

The story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) continues in the next instalment of the Spider-Verse saga. Brooklyn’s “one and only Spider-Man”…except for all the other Spider-People who exist across the infinite multiverse. Miles Morales, GwenThe story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) continues in the next instalment of the Spider-Verse saga. Brooklyn’s “one and only Spider-Man”…except for all the other Spider-People who exist across the infinite multiverse. Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and a whole team of Spider-People need to work together to face off against a powerful villain unlike anything they have ever seen. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse gave us just a taste into the potential of the Spider-Man multiverse and now the sequel delves head first into the incredible world of the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most incredible and innovative comic book movies I have ever seen. It takes everything you’ve seen in the first movie and builds on it, elevating it to another level of groundbreaking movie making. The stakes are much higher, the characters are further developed and it’s also one of the best looking animated movies you’ll ever see. Every single frame is so carefully crafted and packed full of amazing details, you’ll be stunned watching it. Not only is this everything a great sequel should be, but it’s everything you’d want in a great superhero movie. Into the Spider-Verse blew audiences away when it first hit the scene and certainly influenced other comic book movies afterwards so the bar was pretty high for the sequel. Across the Spider-Verse has again blown fans away with another masterpiece in storytelling, action, music and visuals. It’s got universal appeal, it’s highly immersive and is paving the way for future comic book and animated movies. It’s spectacular in every aspect.

I can’t begin to describe how amazing and creative the multiple styles of animation are expertly blended together. Every world and every character is completely unique. The film makes you feel like you’re actually in a comic book while the pages are being rapidly turned during contrasting worlds and action sequences again and again with so many different styles you’re almost missing things amongst the madness. It’s dazzling and a sure way to make people want to see it again. Over 1,000 animators clearly worked tirelessly on this and it shows. Animated movies are not just for kids, most of us know this but if you need convincing then sit yourself down and watch the Spider-Verse movies. They are brilliant films, filled with heart and humour that leave you wanting more. It puts the characters at the centre of the story, they are relatable, human and flawed. Despite all the crazy things that are happening around them you will still be fully engaged and care about what happens to them. Absolutely everything is working for it to ensure you’re fully invested in this creative and gripping story that will definitely leave you wanting more.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is an ambitious and daring movie that will have comic book fans on the edge of their seats. I didn’t think it could be better than the first movie but it has once again pushed the boundaries of the multiverse to new and exciting levels. One of the easiest five stars I ever gave. Highly recommended for everyone and an absolute must see for all the Spider-Man fans.

Some of the coolest part is to see the unique designs for each of them, ranging from a London punk to a motorcycle chick. But that's only the beginning of the dazzling, sometimes dizzying visuals. With the exception of the family and girlfriend interactions, everything else is rendered in incredible, constantly-changing styles to echo the history of the comic book processes. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A solid movie.

They went above and beyond in terms of animation, makes the old one almost look flat in comparison. Every universe is animated differently and it works very well.

The score is also very solid, on par with the animation, it's better than the first one which was very good to begin with.

There's a lot of fan-service but it's never too distracting.

Story is great, Miles' struggle and feeling of being left out, betrayed and forgotten is very well constructed. The man gave up his art path to pursue multi-dimensional travel, just to find out that his crush, who had the means to get to him the whole time, was too busy seeing another dude to even bother. It sets up a very nice story that I hope will end well.

The movie is also funny when it wants to and serious when it has to, it's very well balanced.

Beside that, the movie has some issues. First of all: it's very long, maybe too long. I don't see myself rewatching it as much as I rewatched the first one. Some scenes really drag out more than necessary. Individual scenes are fine but when they are put all together I just start to feel tired.

This is especially evident when you consider that this movie cannot stand on its own legs, it needs a part 2. It really feels like "Episode 1 of 2". It's not even like Infinity War: this movie has absolutely no payoff, it just builds up and keeps building up to something we won't get to see until the next one is out. So as much as I liked this one, this and its sequels should be considered a single movie came out in two pieces. And my liking for this movie will be affected by the next one.

My second issue with this movie is the fact that the moral dilemma raised by Miguel is never challenged by anyone else. Seeing the spectacular Spiderman is cool, but I think he's out of character, and this is also true with many other Spiderman iterations. They all act like minions and honestly it's kinda stupid that none of them were able to subdue Miles. I get why they had to be overshadowed, but it also cheapens them a lot. I would have rather seen either a big clash between factions or a smaller group of Spiders actually chasing Miles.

She meets up with Miles Morales on one mission, who followed her back to the Spider Society and is informed that he has to let controversial 'Canon Events' happens else the Multiverse will collapse. The film has a interesting story line and good animation, but some parts of the animation may be too fast for the eyes and some are too long. > Related media: I have watched all Marvel Cinematic Universe films with Spider-man featured and also the film preceding the current film. I have not read the comics or watched the TV shows.
> Positives: > 1. The story remains interesting and fresh, as with the first film.
> Negatives:
> 1. The fast parts of some animations can be too much for some people, including myself. I had felt the same issue with the preceding film.
> 2. I think there are 3 major fights in the film and all of them felt too long and repetitive. Coupled with them being fast animations, it was again, too much to take.
> How would the different age groups rate this: > Children: Good > Teens: Excellent > Young adults: Excellent
> Medium-age adults: Excellent > Older adults: Good. > My rating: 4/5 (no half scores). Definitely watch it in the cinema.

A great emotional rollercoaster. That takes awhile to get going but is fantastic when it does. It’s the Back to the Future 2 of this era.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: animation, action, hobie, miguel was a menace in every scene he was in and he at least for me was sympathetic, not a single minute was boring. Miles mom has way more prescence in this one and I liked her.
Gwen, the first 20 odd minutes are dedicated to her world. She is basically a secondary main character. she maybe has more screen time than miles.
Cons: music is too loud to understand diologue in some parts. maybe that was just the dolby atmos.
Two of the spider people endanger their children for empowerment/giggles. This just cannot be supported and needs to be called out. It's hard to be invested even in animation when I personally am seeing these things. Im not saying there needs to be consequences, but it's a major turn off.
The whole canon thing is left to be answered in the sequel. Miles gets blamed for not letting a person die because he was out of universe, yet the movie just ignores that said person was gonna die because of an action of another out of universe character, and that he wasn't the only spider person in that universe at the time.

This is a stylish and heartfelt movie that solidifies Miles' place in the multiverse as a Spider-Man. It further fleshes out his relationship with his parents and his determination to break the mold.

This is a stylish and heartfelt movie that solidifies Miles' place in the multiverse as a Spider-Man. It further fleshes out his relationship with his parents and his determination to break the mold.

The direction, animation and art style are all incredible. Visually the movie is stylish and gorgeous. The voice acting is very heartfelt and believable. The soundtrack is fitting.

The writing is excellent, it makes you care for the protagonist's motivations. However the movie should not be treated as a standalone and be treated the same way as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Avengers: Infinity Sage i.e. a part of the greater story arc.

Overall it's an excellent movie and I was tempted to give it a 10 but for the sole reason that this movie cannot be watched as a standalone takes the 1 point away.

Just the same level as the first one. Absolutely loved it.
I have some minor issues with it, but this feels like The Empire Strikes Back
of comic book movies
