It felt like the re-heated leftovers from every spy and super hero movie of the last 10 years. Not a single witty line. In fact, the script felt like a boilerplate place holder that someone was supposed to go back and replace with actual writing... only never did. My expectations were somewhat low going in because some early reviews I read said it was a dreary film. It wasn't just dreary in tone, it had no life at all. Really disappointed. Expand

So long for theSPECTRE grabs everything Casino Royale did to get 007 back on track and flushes it down the toilet. It's the Diamonds are Forever of the Daniel Craig era in the way that it's a Roger Moore era movie but with a different actor. So long for the days when Bond had development and complexity.
The paper-thin story is basically a poor man's Captain America: The Winter Soldier (it revolves around privacy invasion to defend security), and it keeps with the Skyfall tradition of insisting that James Bond is still super relevant in the internet era despite relying on pandering throwbacks to the previous films to drive the point home. Ironically, it makes you wonder if Bond still has a place in the contemporary world.
We're back to the old days when women are one-dimensional plot devices and sexual interests rather than actual characters with personalities and arcs. Daniel Craig and Lea Seydoux have to go through a forced and chemistry-free romantic subplot that adds nothing to the picture. All while Seydoux tries too hard to be sexy and cool, and I'm sorry, but she's no Eva Green or Honor Blackman. More like a female Jai Courtney.
Christoph Waltz is the same over-the-top cartoonish villain he plays in most of his films, and his motivations are pretty silly. How are we supposed to take him seriously when his catchphrase is "cuckoo"? Not to mention his twists are insulting to the audience's intelligence and seem taken from Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Most shockingly, it's not even an interesting movie in the visual departments. The action scenes are a snoozefest due to poor editing and low stakes, and the monochromatic cinematography makes every location look the same (except for the opening sequence in Mexico, the only one with a wide color palette).
Bring back Martin Campbell!

The cinematography is beautiful and the soundtrack was stellar ,not to mention some of the best action set pieces & sequences I've seen in a while especially the opening however it could have benefited from being at least twenty minutes shorter ,two hours and thirty minutes is a lot to ask for today's generation to sit through Definitely the second best bond in the Craig trilogy in my opinion.
P.S writings on the wall was a masterpiece and smith deserved all the recognition.

Sure there's some great special effects and fantastic cinematography featuring a montage of some of the most beautiful places on earth, but the plot itself completely ruins anything the film had going for it. The storyline is unbelievably predictable but filled with more holes than Swiss cheese. The actions of the villains are moronic and their aims and motivations are so underdeveloped that you simply don't care. Bond is nothing more than an action hero with luck at every step. There's nothing smooth about how he operates in this film - he's not charming, not devious, not cunning, not smart and most certainly not subtle. In fact he could easily be described as a one man Delta force team because he just moves from location to location, wreaking havoc and running around guns blazing, leaving behind a trail of destruction. It is far more Rambo than it is Bond.

Basically if you're a huge Michael Bay fan and love movies where things get blown up or where heroes are able to escape any situation completely unscathed through no logic whatsoever, then you'll love this film. However if you're a classic Bond fan, you'll be bitterly disappointed - not because any of the casting, directing or music was that bad but simply because the writing was so absolutely dreadful it makes Transformers look like a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The critic reviews are mostly on target for this film. Thanks to the inevitable comparison with its predecessor Skyfall, this one falls well short of expectations. Lets see how it fares VS Skyfall
1. Opening Scene: Skyfall was much better, intense, and believable. Here, the shots of helicopter spinning out of control gets repetitive and boring

2. Plot: Both movies have a good plot but Skyfall edges ahead because it maintains sense of threat and danger till the very end, while here the sense of threat and danger gets diluted when Bond enters villain's headquarters in Morocco. Thereafter, its all boloney.

3. BGM: Skyfall all the way...here the music feels rehashed from Skyfall in some scenes and in others, lacks the punch to create the sense of danger/thrill

4. Cinematography: Skyfall again....watching this film makes me realize why people were praising Skyfalls cinematography to no end. Roger Deakins, you're sorely missed.

5 Title Song: Adele all the way.....Sam Smith's song sounds like a lullaby in comparison. Also, the VFX in opening credits looks creepy with octopus sliding on the screen

6.Action: Skyfall again - here the action looks kind of convenient and stupid - specially the way in which Bond gets onto a plane to rescue Lea in Austria and his plane crashes exactly where the villains were driving. Also the climax where he's able to rescue Lea and drive out of MI6 in a boat within 2 minutes, then take out the villain by shooting his helicopter!! That was laughable :D

7. Villain: The villain in this film is supposed to be the boss of all past Bond villains and in his introduction scene he exudes a sense of dread and respect out of fear. But everything changes once we hear him talk to Bond at his headquarters in Morocco. One feels this guy has lost it! Inviting your enemy to your den, showing him around like a guided tour, and then getting blown away! How moronic.....there is no sense of threat or danger to Bond from this idiot! Even in the climax, he tries to get away from the blast site in a helicopter before getting shot down by Bond. Oh come on! How silly of the BIG BOSS OF ALL CRIMINALS to do something like this!

All in all, Spectre comes as a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT because of the amateurish and cliched writing in the second half, alongwith direction to show that stupidity on screen

Nothing new, they again try to present Bond as traumatized by losing women. I also feel the love scene with the Bond girl was forced, since a human just died, they decide to "celebrate" it by having sex, wtf. I think the main problem was the weak villain, compared to Skyfall. They just seem to try to cash in on the success of Skyfall by trying to throw some of the same elements over and over without developing the characters, including the villains, further than in the previous movies, which is getting boring fast. The first two-thirds'Spectre' may be the most disappointing Bond film in a long time. It fails to match the drama and intensity of 'Skyfall' with horribly slow pacing, and entertaining, but ultimately useless, time-filling action sequences. The first two-thirds of the movie give you no clear indication of what threat the SPECTRE organization actually is, beyond being a secret organization, and by the time the audience is filled in, it feels too little too late. Bond's interactions with his cohorts, and attempts at humor, fall flat almost every time. Christolph Waltz is a wasted talent as the villain, almost like how Venom was jammed into the ending of Spider-Man 3. There are too many times that the movie breaks suspension of disbelief, with many characters surviving what should be clear deaths, and the plot twists near the end of the film can be seen coming a mile away. While the last act of the film had some engaging moments and interesting ideas, their value is undercut by the plodding pace of the first hour and half/two hours. It's just a shame that 'Skyfall' set such a high bar to reach, as 'Spectre' may have been a fine sequel to 'Casino Royale,' (definitely better than 'Quantum') but unfortunately the film crashes the Bond series back down to Earth. There's enough popcorn entertainment for those just sitting back to enjoy the ride, but not enough substance for those looking for real good value out of their high ticket prices. Expand

Okay, so I will try to write a full review of this horrendous "Bond film" without giving any spoilers, but I doubt that you will want to watch this movie after reading this review.

First of all, the rating you will give to this film will change dramatically if you have seen the previous films of Sam Mendes & Daniel Craig, the perfect combination that bring the elegant, charismatic and cool yet fragile Bond to life. Spectre's Bond, however, does not display these qualities as much as the previous Bonds do.

Story: Right before I entered the cinema I read online that Pierce Brosnan, the previous Bond as you may know, says that Specte has a weak story and is too long. I sincerely hoped that he was solely jealous of Craig's brilliance on the role, but that was not the case. Not that Craig is anything short of great as James Bond, but Spectre actually does have quite a weak story and is unnecessarily long. Do not worry, I will not spoil anything but I will say this: the story is extremely shallow compared to Skyfall and Casino Royale, moreover gives absurd roles and qualities to iconic characters we are used to always see on screen with Bond. Also it leaves quite a lot, and by that I mean really a lot of plot holes behind to make you wonder if they actually deleted part of the script. Overall, story is one of the most important aspects of a Bond movie and it is mainly what makes CR and Skyfall great, while bringing Quantum of Solace and Spectre very much below the standard we expect from Sam Mendes.

Cinematography: Remember the "Take the bloody shot" sequence at the beginning of Skyfall that gave every one of goosebumps? What about the beautiful shot of Bond with colorful Chinese decoration that reminded us that films are forms of art? Yes? Well you get none of that in Spectre. Spectre is all about fast sequences with big explosions, cause who doesn't love explosions, right? I'd classify this movie as quick entertainment like "fast food", rather than a form of art.

Bond: As I said in the beginning, Spectre's Bond is like a Chinese replica: it tries to be elegant and cool but does not get it quite right. I totally agree with Brosnan in saying that Spectre is not Bond-ish, since THE factor that makes a Bond film a Bond film is James Bond himself. Bond strips himself from being a smart and wise MI6 agent who actually has reason behind his actions, while taking more of a mindless action-movie hero-role, making stupid decisions without thinking about consequences and creating dialogue that is nothing but a reason to display 2 characters together on-screen. I also mentioned that Bond was not at all invincible in previous movies, remember Casino Royale and the beginning of Skyfall. However, Spectre's Bond is a man that even Iron Man himself will be jealous of. You will see what I mean.

Supporting Cast: Supporting cast are just there to, as you may have guessed from their role, "support" Bond. Yep, that's it. They do not really have stories of their own, they are just there when need be and gone when Bond is to take the spotlight. Extremely shallow characters. We get no backstory on what happened to them, why they are doing what they are doing, and what they want from Bond.

That sums up my opinion on Spectre. I'd love to write even more but I have other stuff to do, unfortunately. I hope my review gave you another point of view, apart from all those 10/10 and 9/10 reviews which I'm sure have reasons of their own to give such high ratings.

I don't know about you, but I will reconsider twice, maybe thrice before watching the next Bond.

On the good side, it is the second most expensive film ever made, and it looks like it. The cinematography is gorgeous, and Thomas Newman clearly had fun writing this score.

On the bad side, the actual events that are being filmed aren't that interesting. The Bourne-style action and ruggedly humorless Daniel Craig characterization are more than a little tired, as is the series of references to Bond tropes. It isn't a great showing for the supporting cast either; Christoph Waltz and Monica Belucci might seem like casting coups, but they're both wasted, and Lea Seydoux is of course very, very pretty, but her character's archetypically fickle and irrational Bond girl behavior feels increasingly out of touch in a gritty 2010's movie.

Plot holes abound, the henchmen have the level of marksmanship you'd expect, and you'll wonder what kind of intelligence agency builds a massive prominent headquarters out of glass. None of this is really outside of the Bond ouvre, but it's getting tired. It's a fun movie at times, but it's trying to be realistic, unrealistic, and tongue-in-cheek all at the same time, and that just doesn't work.

The plot is convoluted paranoia about worldwide surveillance, but it's not especially threatening (neither is villain Christoph Waltz). There are international locales, but none are special. The woman aren't memorable and the love scenes are underplayed. With the proliferation of action flix these days, it's hard to make the action exciting or inventive. None of these deliver much new and some even evoke earlier Bond movies. Craig is steely serious and has almost no dialogue with the typical 007 smirk. At a running time of 1:48, the momentum winds down well before it's over. There's the typical franchise flash, but little of it ignites much fire or fun Expand

First of all the opening scene of the movie was great, it was well shot and fun but the tempo for the rest of the film went downhill from there. What this movie really had was solid performances, like Daniel Craig's performance as James Bond(gold as always), Benjamin Whishaw as Q was also good, and Ralph Fiennes as M who surprisingly filled Judi Dench shoes well, but Christoph Waltz as the villain was rather disappointing,he never really feels like he is part of the movie because his screen time is short and even when he is there he really didn't do much as Oberhauser(Blofeld), in the last act there was some hope, but all potential was wasted, don't get me wrong he wasn't a bad villain it's just that he didn't do much. The run-time of the film was okay for me, it didn't feel too long because of the chemistry between Léa Seydoux and Daniel Craig(even at times it felt a bit forced).Going in to this movie it was always going to be compared to Skyfall, which was amazing and going out of this film i wasn't as amazed, the plot was rather small compared to Skyfall making the risks not quite as big, which came off as a huge disappointment, but the film covered up with some one liner humour which the film pulled off so well and the action was okay not great but satisfying especially the car chase scenes which were awesome. Spectre was definitely not perfect, but i enjoyed this film, it tied up all of Daniel Craig's films neatly, came to a satisfying end, so overally not as great as Syfall but a good film in it's own right. What I mean is, Spectre suffers from double personality disorder: while the action sequences and the general way in which Bond manages to slink his way out of anything just by sheer luck are light-headed and cartoonish, one feels the underlying plot of international conspiracy a bit too harsh.

On another note, I don't quite like this tendency to reveal details of Bond's past, as I feel his charm relies heavily on the mystery of it. Skyfall, for instance, was good as a one-off thing, but with Spectre delving further in, we might just now too much about Bond, now, for him to be still as intriguing as he was in the beginning.

Daniel Craig confirms himself in a role that seemed unfit for him when Casino Royale came out - now it's difficult to find anyone who doesn't agree he was one of the best Bonds ever.

Its a classic cat and mouse chase and as usual the villain instead of just killing the protagonist, plays games with him and makes it possible for him to escape. There were a lot of spy movie cliches. Car chases, shootouts, fist fighting and he gets the girl. Its the same old routine. It was an entertaining movie but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list. If you like Bond movies, go see it. Expand

Instead of the action speeding up it is a mix of too fast or too slow editing with illogical relationships. The director Sam Mendes has lost his touch. Something went terriblly wrong in finishing this movie. Go see Casino Royale or wait until it comes to TV (so you can fast forward), or go to another movie in the last 30 minutes so the good feeling won't be wasted. The action sequences, as usual, are terrific, and it's refreshing to see the overall story arc stretching from film to film. The inclusion of contemporary issues makes for smart and relevant storytelling, and the decision to involve supporting characters more in the overall narrative adds interesting new wrinkles. However, uneven pacing issues, an occasionally muddled script and plot devices that stretch credibility even for a James Bond movie really work against the film's strengths, keeping the picture from being as good as it might have otherwise been. It may be a bit of a letdown from the last installment in this series, but it's definitely not the end of 007. Expand

If Pierce was a Formula 1 race car, Daniel would be a Top fuel dragster. Both fun to watch in different ways. Spectre took a Top fuel dragster and tried to run it in the Monaco Grand Prix. The story was disjointed bordering on incomprehensible. The plot, if you can call it that, was slow as molasses in January. 007 was popping up all over Europe in scene after scene after scene instantly wearing dozens of wardrobes GQ magazine would envy, and all with only a duffel. At first it was campy 007 artistic license, but for me it became so obvious it became a mild distraction. There were way too many Sherlock Holmes-esque slow motion meanderings occasionally punctuated by gun fights that reminded me of Westerns from the 50's & 60's when the bad guy fired a thousand blanks and the good guy's bullets were real and unerring. The realism was squashed and the campy approach had been made inappropriate. Even the million dollar luxury sports car chase was a waste of million dollar sports cars. They didn't know the kind of movie they really wanted, and neither did I. The last 20 minutes and I was looking at my watch. Expand

Daniel Craig is for me one of the best Bonds we've had. Its a shame this is is last. He has tremendous screen presence and makes somehow believable what is fantastical in the Bond world

It's the usual Bond formula. Aston Martins and style every man wishes he could have. Multiple locations, one desert and hot, one cold and Alpine, Rome ( where else..perfect) ,of course London and a great single shot opening sequence from Mexico city during the day of the dead festival. 2 1/2 hours flew by.

I've heard some complaints about the new French Bond girl not being beautiful enough. I disagree and Monica Bellucci is stunning. Hard to believe she is 51.

Slight grumble about Andrew Scott who plays Moriarty so well in Sherlock. They could have done a better job with him.

All in All ..loved it..

There are scenes that are everything Bond fans could wish for, and there are scenes that are borderline absurd. The most brilliant thing about Spectre is the pairing of Daniel Craig and the glamorous Léa Seydoux. Those two make a beautiful couple with the most intense romantic chemistry, and if Craig were not already married, one would swear that he fell in love on the set. Seydoux brings out the best in Craig.

Be that as it may, Spectre has glaring flaws. It would seem the producers, director, and writers had plenty of time to develop the script; nevertheless, the script is half-baked, and Craig does most of his acting during chase scenes and rescue scenes. His lines are terse and laconic, if not positively epigrammatic. Director Sam Mendes must have read the criticism about the female roles in Skyfall, because every Bond girl in Spectre (there are four of them!) is intelligent, fearless, and undeniably strong. Seydoux plays the main love interest in the role of Madeleine Swann, and although she fiercely denies being a damsel in distress, Bond has to rescue her at least three times (possibly four, if you count the train scene, where there is a question mark about who rescued whom). The first rescue scene in the Austrian Alps, where Swann is abducted by the bad guys, brings back the Bond of yore. Bond not only shows up on the tail of the bad guys who escape in their Range Rovers, but he is skillfully piloting a BN-2 Islander military plane commandeered on very short notice. Nothing in the script explains how he absconded so quickly with an airplane borrowed from the British Army. He simply shows up in the cockpit, and he proceeds to rescue Swann by crashing the plane. Unfortunately, it is precisely that kind of illogical plot with its preposterous premises that got Pierce Brosnan replaced by Craig in the Bond franchise.

Naomie Harris is back with a strong supporting role as Moneypenny. Ben Whishaw as Q has an improved persona, and he is no longer just the kid who still has “spots.” Ralph Fiennes continues as M, a role which he had just taken over at the end of Skyfall. He’s been rehearsing at home, it seems, because he has developed his M to perfection. Fiennes has turned M into a force to be reckoned with, at almost Oscar-level intensity and nearly out of place in a Bond film. We do not get to see enough of Monica Bellucci, now on record as the oldest Bond girl (age 50 at filming). She is dark, mysterious, and quintessentially beautiful, but her presence in Spectre is too brief. The fourth Bond girl is Stephanie Sigman, who hails from Mexico, and one suspects she nearly ended up on the cutting room floor. She shares an opening scene with Craig, who then leads her into a hotel room ostensibly to make love. Next thing she knows, he’s climbing out the window. She has one line for the entire film: “Where are you going?” And then she’s out. Christoph Waltz is not quite as evil as he was in Inglorious Bastards, but he gets scarier toward the end.

Mendes tries to pay homage to classic Bond, but his directorial heart is not in it. Bond mistakenly asks for a martini, shaken not stirred, at a health bar where he is instead served a green smoothie for vegans only. The classic Bond car shows up as a brand new Aston Martin DB10 intended for Agent 009, but Bond steals it and trashes the magnificent vehicle in a canal in Rome. When Bellucci’s character asks him his name, he doesn’t say it with his usual austerity because he is too busy kissing her, so he is still panting when he says, “Bond. James Bond.” Not the same effect.

Nevertheless, Craig is still handsome, dynamic, and charismatic. He’s good to go for another round, as long as he publicly apologizes for saying he would rather slit his wrists than play Bond again.

The last 30 minutes in particular are absolutely laughable and make zero sense.

There aren't even any action sequences that stand out in the film, they all feel completely bland and forgettable. By comparison, you can watch the action scenes from Casino Royale multiple times and they're still amazing.

There is NOTHING memorable about this film at all.

Spectre is admittedly an underwhelming and unsatisfying watch that is filmed with Bond fandom to try keep die-hard fans interested.
Still a far better watch than QoS, it is far inferior to Casino Royale and Skyfall. The opening tracking shot of the day of the dead Mexico setting feels like a clear but lovely hint of foreshadowment for a hopefully depressing and dark instalment of the Bond franchise, but it doesn’t lead up to anything. The action sequence here is relatively entertaining, and is shot well with a few bits of added comedy but fails in comparison to CR and Skyfall.
From here on out with have too much half assed moments. A car chase which isn’t exciting but more made for comedy, an Oberhauser (Waltz) who is horrendously under used, a menacing bad guy (Bautista) who is like the Darth Maul of Bond villains, and action set pieces which are trying to be big but don’t really excite. The plane sequence down the mountain is actually quite boring to be honest, and the train fight is pretty cool but just doesn’t end well; you can easily see what’s going to happen. The relationship between Bond and Seydoux’s character also seems rushed, forced and unbelievable, and to top things off the final sequence of the film is just such a punch below the gut, wholly unsatisfying. Even certain deaths of this film (almost all) are just underwhelming and not memorable, it’s like their deaths were written in as an after-thought in the script to get them out of the way.
Daniel Craig is still pretty charming as Bond in this film but still he can’t save the film. Also, Monica Bellucci’s character was completely dumped as soon as she was introduced, asking the question why did they promote her when they announced the cast if she has about 2 minutes of screen time.
A very unsatisfying end for Daniel Craig to go out as Bond. Hopefully he will return just one more time.

For Bond's latest outing and in reference to The Batman's most recent adventure, Spectre follows directly on the heels of, and was perhaps unfairly expected to top a series best.
Skyfall, like The Dark Knight, delivered the knockout punch critics, audiences and the box office were all screaming for. After the success of both films, their respective studios and the film makers involved were tasked with what must've seemed like mission impossible; recreate that same magic whilst giving audiences something they had never seen before.
Cut to 2015 and Spectre arrives, much like The Dark Knight Rises did back in 2012, to mixed reviews, diminished expectation and division among it's series fans.
But is it all doom and gloom? No. While the film itself is not quite the well oiled machine it's predecessor was, and although it's stab at tying up all that has come before is thinly executed and is therefore annoyingly less than convincing, Spectre is however a worthy entry in the Bond cannon and the Daniel Craig era of Bond films. It succeeds in scope as a globetrotting action adventure, it is beautifully photographed and it's set pieces rival if not better much of what has come before, particularly it's pre credits sequence.
Unfortunately, like the film I've referenced here and for all that Spectre does have going for it, it will forever live on in Skyfall's shadow. Watchable, fun, sexy and cool but achingly and perhaps annoyingly running a close second to Craig's best.

Despite the fact that Spectre is undoubtedly so far the most popular movie of 2015, it seems that neither critics, nor the audience really appreciated it. That's probably because this is the most dark and thoughtful James Bond movie.
For the first time in Bond history the bad guys are not just one ridiculous and eccentric person (ex. Goldfinger) but a massive network of legitimate companies and white collar criminals. The enemy is in fact modern capitalism. The main themes in Spectre is that you can't really divide humanity into good and bad guys and that Information is today's most valuable asset. This is the first Bond movie that parodies itself, since even the use of the special agents is put under criticism. Bond operates under no authorization and seems powerless against this massive conspiracy like a "kite dancing in a hurricane", as one of the bad guys states in the movie. Moneypenny is now black, Mr Q is a young hacker and even the "bad guy" is using technology and not muscles to torture Bond. In a nutshell this is the most modern movie of the series. Sam Mendes' direction is a bit different and strange (what did you expect from the guy behind American Beauty?), Bellucci becomes a Bond girl just for a night, Lea Seydoux is sexy, Daniel Craig is (as always) tough and sarcastic and Christoph Waltz is just fantastic (possible oscar nomination). Worth mentioning is that Spectre features a great sense of humor that lacked earlier entries. All in all those new elements mixed together in this modern James Bond version give a new breath of life to the series but might puzzle the old school action driven fans. Still, there is plenty of action in this film and Bond always manages to succeed in an explosive way, just to make sure that the series remain on track.

The opening scene is spectacular. One of the best Bond openings. It's a drawn out shot, a long sequence, and it sucks you into the movie, wham, you're there. Make sure you go see it in a theatre with a great sound system. It's a long film, almost 2.5 hours, for better and for worse. Mostly for better. In Quantum of Solace, the pace was so high it just blurred by, all action, bang, bang, bang. SPECTRE is more drawn out affording to linger in certain scenes, giving more texture, more detail, more the feel of what it's like to BE there. It's what makes Bond Bond, time for a drink, time to take in the scenery rather than only breathless action. Sam Mendes, and his cinematographers have brought real beauty to the Bond franchise. Nothing beats Deacon's color palette in Skyfall, however. I miss his cinematography in this film. It would have heightened the beauty of it more than van Hoytema's love of grainy images. It's not bad, yet I think Deacon would have made more of it. Other improvement points? I had huge expectations on outrageously skilled Christoph Waltz, but he's sort of not capitalized upon. He begins well, and he's creepy but it doesn't go beyond that. Javier Bardem was sensational in Skyfall. A tough act to follow, perhaps? I get the feeling it's the script that holds Waltz back. There's not much in it. In fact that's the major issue: the Bond movies need better scripts. They shouldn't start until there's a rock solid story. In addition, perhaps it's time to bring in some more evil forces, real scary stuff, going on in the world, rather than villains who seem sort of harmless, even though they're creepy. As for Léa Seydoux, she's great and plausible in her role. Great natural looking make up as well. Only a few faux pas, also script wise (no details, don't want any spoilers). Lastly, the title song. I remember reacting to the song, really listening during the opening. I wasn't sure whether it was a man or a woman, or both. Captivating. Sam Smith's singing is fantastic. All in all, what stays in my mind after this film is really the opening, the laughs, a sweaty sequence in north Africa, and the feeling it was worthwhile to see it for its entertainment value. Expand

I liked that Bond, even in the face of his doom, was unwavering in his quest in this film. The film peers a little more into Bond's upbringing and factors of his pre secret agent past. Much like some of the earlier Bonds (Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan) there were always some silly moments for comical relief. They had removed most of those from the Daniel Craig era, but have brought some of that back in this film which I liked. The movie still maintains the adrenaline of high stakes situations by displaying the brutal possibilities James could face. I found the film to be suave and entertaining, however I will deduct a couple of points for a few times when things were a little too convenient to be realistic, but not deal-breakers by any means. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The critics rate this as the third worst Bond film ever, but don't let these put your mood down on wanting to watch an action packed film. The action and stunts are fun to watch, as the film gets you hooked on Bond escaping the clutches of Christoph Waltz's men, protecting the brilliant Lea at the same time or chasing an important character who has the capability of executing a terrorist attack. The story has an interesting touch, one to still not let go of previous Craig Bond films, maybe the scripting could've needed a bit of work. Other than that, the actors were great, the action was awesome, and I highly recommend if you can, IMAX. Spectre may not be up there with Skyfall and Casino Royale, but sill not only better than the accident that was Quantum of Solace but around the middle pack of Bond films. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

Let me say that listening to Sam Smith's theme song for the very first time in the cinema is quite unpleasant, it just sounded like someone wailing uncontrollably. And the opening credits has cgi tentacles all over the place. We're off to a bad start.

As impressive as the opening scene is, where Bond chases 'Sciarra' through the Day of the Dead festival crowd, the fact that our hero thinks it's a good idea to punch the **** out of the pilot in an out of control helicopter, with a crowd of innocent people below, is baffling. The character of Bond feels schizophrenic as ever. I'm not sure what i'm supposed to think of a guy who, only after a minute of being acquainted, is bedding the widow (Monica Bellucci) of the assassin he killed earlier. And after a quick 'Ciao Bella' or whatever, she's not seen again. So much for the progressive choice of an age-appropriate Bond girl.

Mr White (Jesper Christensen) returns briefly as Bond pledges to protect his daughter, the fairly two dimensional Dr Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux). Together they travel from Rome, Austria, Tangier to track down Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz), leader of the mysterious Spectre, at his base of operations only a megalomaniac would be proud of. And yes, the big secret that isn't much of a secret, Oberhauser is actually Ernst Stavro Blofeld, pre and post face scarring.

There's plenty of fun nostalgia ahead with a brutal fight inside a speeding train with Mr Hinx (Dave Bautista), escaping a car chase using the ejector seat, escaping torture with an exploding wrist watch (of course, what else would it be!?) and then escaping the crumbling MI6 HQ by jumping into a safety net that came out of nowhere. Then it dawns on you that... this isn't anything new. Retro repetition, pandering, it's either what you want or what you dread.

The visuals are beautifully crisp and framed perfectly, thanks to director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema. Whether in frantic action scenes like the car chase on the streets of Rome, or dark indoor halls where the tense Spectre meeting takes place, it's what we expect from a modern Bond film. The score has moments of class but is mostly forgettable. Apart from one laugh out loud moment (during the car chase), the film is pretty much humorless, with little quips that didn't get much reaction from the audience.

Craig's run of Bond films suffer from an inconsistency in tone, direction and characters. Director Sam Mendes returns but there's still a lack of identity despite claims Bond is now 'Nolan-esque'. Did you want a return to over the top swagger of classic films after the modern but dire Skyfall? Well you're stuck between a rock and a hard place with Spectre. Go too hard edge, you get a Bourne clone. Go old school and you're left with a selfish, misogynistic pig for a hero. Never mind Daniel Craig, the whole franchise has run its course. All parody and little progress.

I was worried about seeing this based on the weak reviews. Once again, I'm glad I didn't listen to Metacritic (the same site that said "Steve Jobs" was a great movie when in fact it was terrible)...

This Bond movie was among the best Daniel Craig Bond movies... maybe the best. I didn't like Skyfall, but this one was great.

Honestly, I used to really like Metacritic but I'm starting to think it stinks just like Rotten Tomatoes stinks now. To illustrate my point:

This site gave Spring Breakers a Green (good) rating at 63 (higher than Spectre).
It gave Steve Jobs a jaw-dropping 82 when the movie was terrible (I encourage people to see it because they don't believe a movie this highly rated could be awful... then they agree I was right after they come out... they're shocked at how bad it is)
This site gave Inherent Vice an 81... and that's another movie that makes you embarrassed to be alive by being so bad.

Anyway... if you came to see a great Bond film, you're going to get what you came for. It's a shame this site sucks so much (or maybe it's not so much the site as it is the critics themselves, who are totally out of touch with what a good movie is...)

Sorry Bond fans, I didn't want to do this but I did not enjoy this movie enough for it to be more than a 5/10 score...

...'Spectre' sees Daniel Craig in his fourth outing as the iconic British spy, James Bond and is the return for director Sam Mendes ('American Beauty' and 'Skyfall'). The screenplay is also written by the usual gang which includes John Logan ('Gladiator' and 'Hugo').

The movie opens with an impressive tracking shot with Bond in Mexico City which proves to be rewarding for some filmmakers. But just because a movie is impressively shot doesn't save its mediocrity. We then see the opening sequence which includes the Sam Smith song "Writing on the Wall" which is instantly forgettable, but we don't go to Bond films looking for a good opening song.

The story mostly involves Bond trying to protect the daughter of Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) who is played by French actress Lea Seydoux ('Inglourious Basterds' and 'Blue is the Warmest Color') who seems reluctant to trust Bond at first, but needs his protection anyway. The usual crew including M (Ralph Fiennes), Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Winshaw) return, and the chemistry between Craig and those actors are comedic which is great to see. But unfortunately, they are hardly together throughout the duration of the movie.

My biggest disappointments come from the following actors including; Monical Belucci, Dave Bautista and Christoph Waltz. They didn't have as much screen time as the trailers made it seem they have.

It just seems rather pointless to have these characters appear and they abruptly don't come back for the rest of the movie. Belucci and Bautista only have roughly 20 - 30 minutes of screen time each.

But the disappointment mainly comes from Christoph Waltz, who played such an iconic villain in 'Inglourious Basterds' (2009) and won his first Academy Award for it. So when I heard he was going to play a Bond villain, I thought he'd be perfect.

Waltz was wasted as the villain, I'm not sure if it's because of the screenplay, but he did not seem as menacing or intimidating as the ones played by Mads Mikkelsen ('Casino Royale') or Javier Bardem ('Skyfall'). We only get one scene of him torturing Bond, slightly, but that's it.

Ralph Fiennes as M has a few action scenes here and there, we see him handling a gun and defending everything he can, but this does not seem like something the M we know would do. The action should only be left to Bond only.

I am not sure if it's because 'Skyfall' (2012) had heightened my expectations, but this was just mediocre Bond fare almost made to the quality of 'Quantum of Solace' (2008). There are some scenes that happen for almost no reason, characters appear, then disappear, and other characters are wasted. It seemed like this was an unfinished product, but I wouldn't rank this as high as 'Casino Royale' (2006) or 'Skyfall' (2012), however, Daniel Craig is still convincing as Bond.

Great acting, just an underwhelming movie.

It's gritty, continues to emphasize Bond's vulnerability as a character and put's story at the core of it's foundation. Spectre is an escapist film, it's more in the realm of a Marvel film than Craig's past efforts. It's incredibly confident, stylish and fun. It molds classic Bond with the brutal reality we come to expect with these newer entries to the franchise. Lighter, yes, but by no means a 'light' film. It stands on it's on merit and knows what it wants to be. The woman, the cars, the set-pieces, they are all present and as engaging and exciting as ever. This is not (in my opinion) better than Casino or Skyfall, but it is most definitely one of the greatest BOND pictures you'll see. If you want a good night out, Spectre is sure to entertain and excite. Expand

I thought Skyfall was pathetic (incoherent and slow before turning into 'home alone') but at least it wasn't so gloomily lit it was like watching fish swimming in a murky pool. But Spectre ..... oh dear oh dear oh dear .... badly lit and often out of focus, with tired looking action sequences, long bits of boring dialogue, a song by a cat with it's private parts going through a mangle and a plot - even by Bond standards - so absolutely daft and full of holes I very nearly gave up and walked out. You know a film has run out of ideas when they have to crank the soundtrack to max to make sure you know which bits are meant to be exciting.

Maybe I'm just too old (over 20) for Bond now, but then I think Casino Royal a fine film (if a little bloated). Fingers crossed for the next one, but I won't be rushing to see it.

Daniel Craig is in shape James Bond, Monicca Bellushi appeared in a 10 minutes scene, Léa Seydoux took control in the second half of the movie. Usually in James Bond movies worries are about his women safety, this time Léa Seydoux survived, but Monicca Bellushi, we don't know. A worth seen movie that takes the audience out of daily life hustles for two hours. Expand

It is my favorite movie series out there. This film introduces SPECTRE obviously which was long over due since the Craig Bond films were concentrated on the beginning of the Spy's career. I found the film entertaining and would rank it in the middle of the Bond pack. However, there are problems with the film.

1st: It doesn't really seam to have a defined plot through much of the movie. Bond is searching for M's Killer and stumbles onto SPECTRE. Consequently, there is no sinister plot that needs to be thwarted that BOND and MI6 are working on.
2nd: All of the best Bond films have a strong villain. Christoph Waltz does a fine job as Blofeld, but you don't see him until 2/3 of the way through the film.
3rd: The Bond chick doesn't show up until half way through the movie. At one point during the movie, I asked myself where are the Bond chicks? :)

The presentation at a true IMAX was spectacular. It is the only way to see an action movie if it is available in your area. Don't be fooled by the regular movie theaters that lease the IMAX name. It is not even close to a true IMAX theater experience.

However it delivers some excellent action and while the plot might not be great it’s still pretty decent. I also think the acting in this film is excellent and we have had one of the best Bond Girls in a long time. Everything you would expect from a Bond film is pretty much here and Bond fans will eat this one up with all the others, just don’t expect for this one to be on the top of your list in your next Bond marathon. When I reviewed Kingsman ealier this year I said I was worried I wouldn’t be able to take Spectre seriously but that really is not the case though I did prefer Kingsman overall I would recommend actually going to see this one in the Cinema, This will take a while to come on DVD and I don’t think you should wait that long. But don’t go in with really lofty expectations like I did, because it won’t quite match up to them and that’s a mistake because it’s actually a pretty good film when you really look at it. Expand

All of the high points in the film for me came from when it was doing so. This film has car chases, gun fights. Ridiculously inappropriate uses of vehicles. And they were all very well done. The exotic locals were very exotic and picturesque. The villain's lair looked cool. Lots of very nice expensive looking cars too. But it was the gradual reveal of Spectre where the film was most interesting.
I should also say there were a couple of scenes which were just a bit too "campy bond." Maybe there's a deleted scene or two that was cut for time that fixes it. And there is one scene, where bond is captured and strapped to a chair. If you've ever seen the film Brazil, it'll have you wondering.
Overall I'd rate this film 2nd after Casino Royal in the 4 bond films Danial Craig has starred in. Good show.

That's the plot in short and the movie features a host of characters, as Bond works with Moneypenny, Q and M to hunt down Spectre. Is is good? Absolutely. Is it as good as Skyfall? I don't think so. But don't let that distract you from what is a wonderfully entertaining.

A lot of Skyfall's positives carry over, as this film's use of varying locales, densely packed shots and great sound make this film a joy for the senses. The main plot is personal and is cohesive and the film's best part is it's performances. Craig is as usual a joy to watch, with very suave one-liners and a great presence. Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Volde... I mean, Ralph Fiennes have more to do in this movie and are very good in the movie. The Animal Bat... Dave Bautista is very good as Mr Hinx, but my favourite performance goes to Lea Seydoux as Dr. Madeleine Swann, the 'Bond girl' if you will. Her character is well developed and she adds humanity and bravery to the role. The movie will also satisfy fans of the previous Bonds with Craig as the film links back very well to events in Casino Royale, Skyfall and the other one sitting in the corner by itself (sorry). Another high point carried over from Skyfall is well helmed action sequences, including a fantastic car chase and train sequences, and these range from the very tense affairs to the bombastic. And for fans of classic bonds, there are a number of references to keep them entertained and some dialogue is written very well.

In terms of where this movie falls down, it's in the treatment of some other characters. Mainly, the villain is portrayed well by a brilliant actor in Christoph Waltz, but I wish the villain was more active in actually dealing with Bond. He is introduced very well at a great meeting scene, but I wish he actually was a bit physical as well as the psychological effect he has on Bond. The Joker was psychological to Batman, but actively took part in the action. Also, Monica Bellucci's character has a minor bit of development, but largely feels like a plot device by the end of the movie. And, as much as the supporting cast are fun, it felt slightly disappointing when we cut back to London to look at the developments concerning the politics. Whilst key to the plot, the Bond stuff was enthralling and was at times, sad when we had to see M sat in a bar with a glass of red.

Overall though, this movie is a lot of fun and is a Bond movie that will give you entertainment. That glass of vodka martini is half full with those movie, even if it could be a little more shaken.

It even capitalizes on that with some surprising destruction that makes you think that the rest of the movie is going to be just as exciting as those opening minutes. However as soon as that surprisingly, yet appreciated, comedic ending to the scene happens it's straight to formula.

This is very much a case of been there, done that, and seen it all before. Formulaic to a T, there's almost no sense of excitement as I found myself predicting everything that would happen next. The plot tries hard to be something bigger than the average Bond affair by having a sense of connectivity to the previous Daniel Craig movies, but it follows the exact same formula the series has been using for years. Christoph Waltz plays a potentially cool villain who has some real ties to our hero. However a painful lack of screen time renders that moot.

Outside of a surprise fight between Craig and Bautista that literally comes out of nowhere the action suffers from the same problem; predictability. That's really the issue with everything in the movie. It's the same stuff we've seen over and over again in this very series making it's return once again. There are moments where it looks they wanted to add more depth to everything, but ultimately just ended up delivering the same old, same old. The perfect example of this is with the new "Bond girl."

There's a point in the movie where it becomes clear that they are setting up Léa Seydoux's character to be more meaningful to Bond than the typical one night stand. Someone he can actually end up settling down with. This however does not occur to the audience until the movie outright says it. Why? Because there's literally nothing to distinguish her from any of the more generic Bond girls that have come before her. Any chemistry between Seydoux and Craig is unnoticeable as Seydoux is playing the most generic of Bond girl stereotypes. She feels exactly as important to the plot as Monica Bellucci was earlier in the film. Basically just nothing more than a pretty face for Bond to have sex with. I was literally baffled when the movie tried to convince me there was any sort of actual connection between the two, much less love.

To be honest "SPECTRE" is a lot like the majority of Bond girls. Gorgeous to look at, but lacking any sort of originality or substance to back up those good looks. It actually ends up being worth less to the audience than a Bond girl is to Bond. At least Bond can get an afternoon of pleasure from a Bond girl before he casts her aside. The audience won't be able to even get that from this movie. It's an exercise in familiarity. A few bits of humor scattered throughout and dazzling views keep things from getting too dull, but they can't save the entire thing from being boring. I think it's time to revoke 007's license to kill.

Why Monica Belucci is being intrduced as a main character is beyond me. The worst part is the ending, it should end with that final blast, Bond escaping on the boat and Blofeld flying away. That would salvage the whole movie, since as it is the ending just ruins the plot entirely. Expand

It feels not as the epic conclusion of an ideal quadrilogy, and more like a tv season finale, trying hard to tie loose ends and raise interest for what’s next. Waltz’s villain lacks any interesting motives in his nonsensical actions, and nothing feels genuine here. It is a feature that it’s also a cannibal of its own IP: it doesn’t play on its status nor its most famous Spectre organization, but it feeds on these things just to come up with something between the action scenes. Skyfall’s sense of urgency had probably raised the stakes a little too much, and no real character development appears on this installment, no new ideas. The initial tracking shot is probably the most fascinating item on this feature, and at least Mendes has mastered his skills in Bond visuals and action scenes. SPECTRE is nonetheless enjoyable, full of classic throwbacks one might have missed (film stock!) or not missed that at all (poorly drafted female characters and villains). It’s still fun to watch most of the time, but it has very little replay value. Expand

In fact,
Spectre is my favorite movie of all time to date. If James Bond can get spiritual, Spectre is the quintessence of Mr. Bond's redemption. I write this as a Catholic Christian seeing past the endless array of Bond's sleazy women.

In fact, Daniel Craig's Bond has two women of interest in each of his movies, one a lover and one a whore. In all the four movies, the whore gets killed because of Bond and the lover reveals to us something about him. The deaths may seem a bit repetitive, but they actually prepare an important setting. In Spectre, those four deaths and others lead straight to Bond's archnemesis and rival. Bond's lovers, however, culminate in a final lasting love through which he may return to a life of ease. Still, the women of these four movies are not the primary focus of Bond's development.

What is the primary focus of the Daniel Craig Bond movies? Upon careful analysis, one will come to the same conclusion as mine: James' self-control. Bond may save the world (more or less) four times, or he may magnetize (more or less) four different babes. But, at the end of the day, only Bond's ability to pacify his internal scars matters. And that is exactly what takes place in this movie. And it's glorious! After his gory killing-spree in Quantum of Solace, Bond holds the trigger at a key moment of revenge.

On the most superficial of levels, Spectre is a fairly scary feature of murder and death. At the heart of its premise is a spiritual balance wherein James Bond wraps up his out-of-control ego. Spectre includes a helicopter fight, a crazy mountain chase, and a lot of insane action. But it's definitely got a lot more to it than that. Watch it after Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall; otherwise, it won't add up. Also, enjoy the unexpected octopus squirming around in the opening credits!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie opens with Bond's solo mission hunting down Siaccra (the we found out that Siaccra is the last message of previous M) in the middle of "The Day of the Dead" parade of Mexico City. Bond's succesfully fullfiled this unofficial mission after a breathtaking chase and fight inside helicopter in the air killed all his enemies.Bond also manage to steal Sciarra ring with an octopuss logo.Bond got suspended for his action even though M realise that this unofficial mission prevent the mass bombing scenario. But,he is not stopping at all, this is only the beginning of his personal mission. Siaccra's death leads Bond to a gorgeous Italian widow Lucia Siaccra (Monica Belluci),and this gorgeous lonely that need a protector tips Bond about her late husband meeting point. And Bond didn't need waste time and direclty entered the meeting point easily and finally not just see the face of Spectre's leader but suprisingly this person has connection with Bond's childhood. Frankly i hope Spectre is going to be the greatest Bond ever made - better than Skyfall. But i must admit there are few things that i felt that should be explore. When the leader of Spectre revealed himself to Bond, that really shocked and i think scared the hell out Bond, is one of the best momentum. When this Spectre mysterious leader Ernst Stavro Bloveld enter the room, sudden this large meeting aula become so chill, filled with fear, we only hear his voice that gives the feel of terror. But this momentum didn't maintained well. I think the story should explore more "space" for psychological battle between Bond and Ernst (a.k.a Franz Oberhauser that believed is dead decades ago in an accident that also killed Franz father). In Skyfall audiens were showned the psychological condition between love and hatred of Raoul Silva (ex 00 agent went rough who seek revenge for being abandoned and left for dead after Raoul's personel mission almost jeoperdize the handover Hongkong to China back in 1997). Maybe that Sam Mendez already to tired to explore this psychological things.Or just wanna focus on Bond's mission that really wanna put his misery to an end, cause Ernst recognition that for this past few years Bond's misery for the lost all that he love so much and devoted to is taken away by Ernst all along behind his collaborator in crime. This is the most apparent weakness of this Spectre. Craig performance is great, he can easily combined the drama side of this Bond character. Monica Belluci short performance but still can steal a few moments. I also give credit to Ben Whisaw as Q. and off course Waltz performance is good but not as strong as Javier's performance as villain in Skyfall. But however the early of Waltz's character appear is the best highlight in Spectre. Expand

The action’s fantastic, and the sound and sets are great; though the story telling is inconsistent – certainly not as good as that in Skyfall and Casino Royale at least – and the script isn’t as good as in those two. Furthermore, Christoph Waltz’ performance as Blofeld seemed too much of a failed attempt to recreate Javier Bardem’s portrayal of Silva, and some of the ideas in the film weren’t too inspired. However, nothing in the film I’d say was bad, far from that; and more concentration on the action made for a fantastically entertaining film and probably one of the best this year, albeit not quite as good as some of its predecessors.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Serving as the final act for Daniel Craig's rebooted Bond, "SPECTRE" does everything it has to. It delivers terrific action sequences and, thanks to returning director Sam Mendes, looking great doing it. Its premise is a clever one, that all of the trials and tribulations that 007 has faced over the past three films were orchestrated by the film's eponymous shadow organization, headed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld. After MGM finally settled the legal wrangling around the rights to the classic supervillain, it was inevitable that he'd make his appearance in Craig's swan song, and Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz delivers a predictably wonderful performance in the role. But it's what the writers of "SPECTRE" chose to add to Blofeld's characterization which is the movie's biggest flaw. It's a big enough leap to expect audiences to buy into the retconning of the drama of the last three films as being due to a heretofore unmentioned (at least in this particular iteration of the franchise) secret organization. To make its leader James Bond's heretofore unmentioned 'brother' is a retcon too far, and in my opinion a needless one. However, that creative boondoggle aside, the 24th official Bond film does a decent job of providing Craig's Bond with a measure of closure, even allowing him, for the first time, to get the girl in the end. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPECTRE would be a good stand-alone movie. But since it was meant to tie with the previous 3 Bond films, then it is a poorly written one. Apart from Mr White, it is not clear as to how Vesper, Le Chiffre, Greene, Medrano and Silva are all connected to SPECTRE or Franz. This is Bond supposedly at his weakest, losing Vesper and (the previous) M and watching his former colleague (Silva) sold out MI6 information and still unable to get along with (the new) M, and the double-O program to be shut down yet when he meets Franz, there is no emotional connection at all? Here is a man, whose father once took Bond under his wings and both were supposedly dead 20 years ago, suddenly appears in front of him and Bond just runs? Bautista plays Mr Hinx, supposedly an assassin, yet the only person he kills is a "competitor"?! This is just lazy writing.

Everything went well at the beginning until the meeting scene. This is the part where they got it all wrong. Here is an organisation always in the shadows, yet exposes the main boss to Bond immediately? It should have been Franz talking all the way until he mentions Bond's name only for the latter to turn around and immediately gets knock-out cold by Mr Hinx. Sciarra's replacement need not be killed by Mr Hinx. In fact, he's got a better role to play. Then the next scene should be a torture-yet-reconciliation scene between Bond and Franz. This should be a 10-15 mins scene where Franz explains how he survive and how Le Chiffre, Greene, Medrano and Silva are all connected to him (without mentioning SPECTRE). Franz then stops Mr Hinx from kiling Bond (as it would hinder C in accomplishing the "Nine Eyes Project"). Now, instead of Bond being ahead of Mr Hinx, it is Mr Hinx always a step ahead. Mr White should not be committing suicide, it should be Mr Hinx killing him (for protecting someone / something). When Bond arrives at Altaussee, he finds White dead and searches his body only to find the old father-daughter photo. Bond then goes to the secret basement room downstairs. Snooping around, he finds a name card of a Dr Swan (not knowing she is the daughter of White). Bond leaves on the cable car, asking Q and/or Moneypenny to search on Dr Swan. He then notices someone who resembles (Sciarra's replacement) dropping by the mountain-top clinic. Bond follows him. So instead of having the interview scene, this immediately moves into the scene where Q surprises Bond with his visit and after that, the whole action scene.

Now that Dr Swan is rescued, the 3 meet at Q's hotel room to discuss the next course of action. Although Dr Swan reveals that the organisation is known as SPECTRE, she does not know its full name, its history and its members. She says her father wants her to know less about SPECTRE as it would endanger the family. She then mentions to go the L'Americain. Same scenes all the way until Bond finds the secret door. While snooping around, Mr Hinx suddenly appears and knocks Dr Swan out cold and holds her hostage and telling Bond to drop his gun. Bond is then knock-out cold. Bond wakes up finding himself in the place (where he was supposed to find). Franz greets Bond by telling him that Bond does not have to find him, because he can find Bond anytime, anywhere. Same scenes til the blow-up

The scene where Dr Swan gets kidnapped should have been where Bond, in the car with M, gets a picture of Dr Swan tied to a chair from an unknown sender. From the background, Bond deduces it is the old MI6 building. So no need for the "kidnap Bond" scene. M will just drop Bond there and head straight for C. Same scenes all the way until the bullet-proof glass. This is where the meeting with Franz via a huge monitor. Franz tells Bond that he spared his life in Rome yet Bond did this (the scars and losing one eye) to him. Franz then mentions he has Dr Swan held in the building and that there is a 3 mins time bomb to be activated. Mr Hinx appears to then push the trigger and waves goodbye. Bond runs all the way up. He looks around and hears sounds from behind a door. This is where the moment Bond opens the door, it is Mr Hinx who greets him! Mr Hinx then points Bond to the chopper that left and Bond realize that Dr Swan is in there. Both men fight all the way and with 5 secs left, both jumped off the building. Bond is then shown to leave on a speedboat chasing the chopper while Mr Hinx is then shown heading to his car. With C dead, M, Q and Moneypenny are interrogated over the hacking and stopping of the Nine Eyes Project without official approval and causing political outrage. Without Bond and/or sufficient evidence linking C to Franz or that SPECTRE exist, MI6 is now suspended and Bond is now a wanted fugitive-cum-terrorist.

No car-chase scene and no train-fight scene. This is how SPECTRE should have been. Shadowy organisation with a mysterious boss. SPECTRE 2 begins where Bond searches for Felix and Lucia to find Swan and Franz and gather info on SPECTRE and its history and activities.

Taking hints from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this is a half political thriller, half classic espionage action. As a result, so many moments throughout this film make you grin from ear to ear at the humor, thrilling action and the cliched but just brilliant style in which the whole film was directed and acted (plus the way it was scored.) There's also some great character development, for example James' relationships with Madeline and his associates are beautifully developed by the amazing script, and audiences can now really feel like they know James well. To follow on from Skyfall in such a way deserves huge huge credit.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It just wasn't quite as emotional or gritty as Skyfall; it feels like some of the more emotional moments were glossed over to make room for the heavy plots which, despite tying up being something Mendes does well, feel disjointed from each other. This makes for a rather underwhelming ending overall.
VERDICT: If you love Bond you'll love this - and you might love it even if you don't. It's a proper classic, but that does stop it having the overall appeal that the revolutionary 'Skyfall' did

this was by far the worst of the series. the word perfunctory comes to mind. why can't hollywood make a decent movie? it's obviously not about money. maybe there's just too many people who have a role in the decision making process.

The fact that I managed to be bored during a movie that claims the genre of "Action" is a bad sign. It didn't feel like a James Bond movie at all. In general it all felt pretty ineffective and clichéd (but not in a good way).

This was still for the most part and enjoyable and fun Bond film that even harkened back to several of the past films in many different and unique ways. Craig's still got what it takes and the action sequences are great fun as well. However, on the downside, the film switches back and forth a few too many times between scenes with lots of action and scenes with just a lot of dialogue and talking, and there wasn't near enough screentime for Christoph Waltz, who I was really looking forward to seeing more of. Overall, it's another worthwhile Bond addition, but please keep in mind that this film is nowhere near the level of Casino Royale and Skyfall, but is still much better than Quantum of Solace. Expand

Agree that the plot may have been a bit weak but feel that Spectre tidied up all the loose ends which began with Casino Royale. The filming and music was fantastic. The antagonist wasn't as evil as seemingly thought (script wise) and thought the ending was a bit weak when compared to past Bond movies. I kind of felt that everyone knew this was Daniel's last Bond movie and that is how they ended it. In some ways the script was strong and other ways it was weak. The actions scenes were fun to watch; but it was mostly the scenes between the characters that I found weak, lacking substance, and too mechanical. Expand

Mr. White: "You are a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr Bond".

The story in Spectre is about a cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre.

So I've just seen "Spectre" a few days ago and it was pretty good. It wasn't as fantastic as Casino Royale or Skyfall, but it's nowhere near Quantum of Solace. This was my most anticipated movie of 2015 and it didn't disappoint.

Sam Mendes returns as director and once again he impresses me with the type of film making he uses in this film, because when the first sentence started and he uses the one take shot again I was impressed. Mendes uses the same film making from Skyfall in this movie and it's great. Nicely done Sam Mendes.

What I notice straight away when the movie started is it's homages and references from previous Bond films. This is a nice touch and it never felt force like some movies. It was fitting and it blended well into the film.

Daniel Craig once again nails it as Bond and in my personal opinion, I think he's the best Bond we've ever had. All through out the Bond films, Craig isn't just the good looking martini drinking lady's man, Craig really puts a lot into his character that made him much different to the other Bonds that we had. Making Bond a human being who feels pain and loss really adds to the character as we can relate to him better. I don't know if Daniel Craig would return as Bond (As I speak) but I hope he dose, because Daniel Craig is magnificent as James Bond.

The one thing that I was really looking forward to seeing is Christoph Waltz as the villain, because if you haven't see him in Inglorious Bastards then do yourself a favor and watch it, because he played such an amazing villain in that film. When I first heard the news about Waltz playing a Bond villain I was like "Yes, that's perfect. Can't wait to see it". And after seeing the movie and he's performance I can say that Waltz did a terrific performance as this menacing villain. He's not one of the best Bond villains of all time like: Le Chiffre, Francisco Scaramanga, Auric Goldfinger or Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Yes, I know that Waltz character is basically Ernst Stavro Blofeld in this film, but he never tried to fully copy him in anywhere as he tried to do something new with the material that was given to him. Christoph Waltz did a great performance as the villain.

Léa Seydoux was also great in this movie. She played a strong female character that can kick some ass at times. Still better than the female characters in the Roger Moore movies, I mean the female characters in those movie were complete tools that needed a man to save them all the time. I'm so glad we've moved on from that.

Now Sam Smith's "Writing on the Wall", was a song that I wasn't such a big off at the first. I don't know, I guess I was so use to the other Bond themes that we usually get in every film. But I must say that I actually like the song and the intro that we got in this film. The song really did fit well into this movie and the intro was pretty good as well.

The action was good, rest of the cast were great, the cinematography was excellent and the movie is 148 minutes long and it never felt long to me.

Now for the problems: There were some scenes in this movie that felt a bit rushed and one of those scenes was the ending. Dave Bautista was awesome in the movie, but I do wish there was more of him. Some of the actions scenes were a bit lackluster at times.

Overall Spectre is an enjoyable Bond flick with some little miss steps. This movie could have been just as great as Skyfall, but I still think Skyfall and Casino Royale are better movies if I have to compare it to Spectre. I highly recommend seeing Spectre, but please don't go in expecting it to be better than Skyfall or Casino Royale.

3. Opening sequence in Mexico City is great!

Things I didn't care for:
1. Plodding Plot
2. Boring down time (although I loved not having constant gunfire)
3, Sam Mendes need to shoot in that yellow haze, smokey lens.

All that being said, this is a good Bond movie but not a great one. I love that they have FINALLY got back to a somewhat Bond formula. Craig looks tired in this film, although he still delivers as Bond. Lea Seydoux (as Madeline Swann) has potential as a Bond girl, but is given stale dry dialogue. Not the best Chemistry with Swann and Bond but I blame a lot of that on the script and director. Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, And Ben Whishaw are equally good as Moneypenny, M, and Q. Christoph Waltz gives a fine performance as the main villain. (no spoilers on who he is) Seeing the organization SPECTRE around their huge member table was awesome and well done. Its still a robust Bond adventure and worth the watch. In closing I miss David Arnold's scores, they are more reminiscent of John Barry. Robert Newman's is passable, but like most movie music today just so interchangeable.
