It was advertised before it was released. This Bond flick is beautifully shot from start to finish (the love scene on the train, though brief, was a work of art); the best acting in any Bond film to date; the best character development of Bond in any Bond film to date (I know there are people who want Bond to remain a flat cardboard cutout comic book-like character; I'm not one of those people); a teaser among the very best of Bond teasers; arguably the best opening animation sequence (but the song is forgettable); the single best Bond story to date. But it is in a way a real drama as well as a Bond movie. Again, some people complain about this along with the (relative) realism of Craig's Bond, and the grittiness, but I love it. I'm not a child so I need a little bit of realism, at least emotional realism. I plan to head back to the theater to see it again, this time in iMax, which will make this the only Bond film I have ever traveled to a theater to see twice. For my money the two best Bond movies since Connery are Spectre and Casino Royale (Casino Royale had the most beautiful Bond girl in history, Caterina Murino) and the most specifically motivated villian. As for Skyfall, the writing ruined it. Comic bookish vaguely motivated bad guy; a radio homing transmitter as a Q gadget? Has Q not seen the iPhone?, and a Bond who didn't behave consistently with his character as established in Craig's first two films. No, for my money Casino Royale and Spectre are the best Craig Bond movies and the very best Bond movies since the 1960s. I would love to see Craig come back for more. Expand

There are some impossibly high standards that will have to be met for people to be satisfied. Spectre obviously isn't going to be the franchise's next "masterpiece," but it does offer a suitably engaging and action-packed thrill ride. In Spectre, M must fight political forces to keep the secret service in operation, while Bond must use a message from his past to find the truth behind SPECTRE. Spectre is much more like the classic Bond films updated for a modern audience. A nail-biting action sequence in a helicopter opens the film in gloriously absurd fashion. Unrealistic? Many scenes in the movie will surely stretch reality, but Spectre is too entertaining and well-directed to really have a negative impact. I also have to mention the beautiful cinematography, which is pretty typical of the Daniel Craig Bond flicks. Spectre, however, has some of the best cinematography out of all the Bond movies I've seen. The film employs a rugged look to fit its locales like Mexico and Rome as well as some shots that look like they were taken straight out of the great Sean Connery Bond films. Spectre is an entirely satisfying, thrilling, beautifully-shot spy film that should entertain most James Bond fans. Expand

The story starts off at Day of the Dead parade in Mexico, which is beautifully shot and the impressive cinematography remains till the end thanks to cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema and editor Lee Smith, who both served Christopher Nolan's Interstellar previously. Director Sam Mendes and three screenwriters did a great job for Skyfall, but Spectre which appears as Part II of Skyfall proves that their repeat collaboration is lacking fresh ideas in which the whole structure of the plot, not only slightly overlong but also exactly similar to Skyfall. Daniel Craig still looks awesome as James Bond, the potential of Christoph Waltz as the villain is let down by limited appearance while the chemistry between Bond's girl Léa Seydoux is slightly awkwardly developed. The scores from Thomas Newman are great, the theme song "Writing's on the Wall" by Sam Smith which sneaks at the very beginning is solid but generates underwhelming feel if compared to "Skyfall". Overall, Spectre is still an entertaining and visually engaging spy action flick even if the rushing production may have dragged a lot at plot wise. Expand

"Spectre" 10 Scale Rating: 7.0 (Good) ...

The Good: Daniel Craig once again reminds us all of why he's been such a fantastic Bond. Sticking to a depiction of the character that is closer to his literary counterpart, Craig might be the best Bond actor in the series. As usual, the settings were fantastic and exotic. The opening sequence doesn't disappoint and overall the action is well done. The fight scenes are also well choreographed and are the perfect blend of comedic moments and violent moments, which is a Bond staple. The supporting cast mostly delivers as well. Wishaw is an amusing young Q, Harris was a solid Moneypenny, and Bautista was classic Bond henchman. While Judy Dench's camaraderie with Craig was definitely missed, Ralph Fiennes was more than adequate as M. Perhaps one of the stronger points of the film was the fact that the other operatives in MI6 got plenty of screen time and were actually an integral part of the final outcome. Lastly, while he didn't have a ton of screen time, Waltz was fantastic as the lead villain.

The Bad: Unfortunately, Waltz's character was poorly written and not very well developed. His motivations were questionable and the end game of his organization, Spectre, was not as grand in scale as one would have hoped. As the film attempts to tie the previous three films together with this one, more was expected from the shadowy organization supposedly behind it all. Lea Seydoux (who is a very talented actress) was completely wasted in the film. We are advised and shown early on that she is tough as nails and can take care of herself, but then degenerates into a cliche damsel in distress within minutes of appearing, remaining that way right up until the end. She also lacked chemistry with Craig, thus making their supposed love completely unbelievable. Lastly, MI6 are "betrayed" by someone close to the organization, but the individual in question was obvious from the moment he steps onto the screen. When the big reveal occurs, you're surprised to find that this was supposed to be a twist of some sort. "Spectre" isn't a bad film and I enjoyed it and while it is a much better film than the disappointment that was "Quantum of Solace", it falls well short of both "Casino Royale" and "Skyfall".

These movies fail to capture what made their franchises great by abandoning creative storytelling and character development for fun whimsical tropes which are solely put in to gather audiences of a wide variety to buy tickets. These blotches and tropes have already existed in the Bond franchise, dating back to the Sean Connery era, but before you know it, lightning will strike again and again. Following the massive critical and financial success of Skyfall, the twenty-forth Bond film had kept people wondering "what's next for our hero?", "what new situations can you put him in that makes the story compelling and the character enthralling?". Well, filmmakers of course decided to make a nostalgia piece, ditching the dark character study of the previous films in the Daniel Craig Era for a cliched adventure film, full of deus ex machinas, quips, one-dimensional characters and completely amateur storytelling. There are more Hollywood cliches in this film than actual story. The only audience that would enjoy this movie is the people who have never seen any Bond films before, so that they have no frame-of-reference for a great Bond film, small children who cannot yet comprehend what makes a film good or bad, and 60+ year old retirees who feel a sense of nostalgia that connects this film with the campiness of the early days of the franchise, which by all means the filmmakers achieved. The main issue with this film is that the movie does not take itself seriously. Some may argue that Craig's Bond is too dark and brooding, but the people who think that do not understand that the change in character which made him seem more cold and human, realistically placed him within a setting that was both practical and compelling. Going back and representing the classic Bond tropes is an entertaining thought, but that is completely impractical and unoriginal. The best films which stand out above the rest are those that offer a unique story, a story that no one has yet thought of, a story that takes your mind within the screen, never once letting you get out of your seat, but to tell the truth, I never felt that. I wanted the film to end abruptly as soon as possible, and when the screen went dark, I rushed myself out of the theater, questioning why the filmmakers or Sony or whoever is responsible for this movie decided to change the mood and atmosphere of both the story and its characters. My best guess is that they simply decided to film an action/adventure, blockbuster, popcorn movie that you watch on a first date, and granted, they achieved that, but I enjoyed the franchise because of the changes made over the years which evolved from Sean Connery flying away in a jetpack to Daniel Craig holding a dying M in his arms. However, this film chose to make Bond a quipping, rebellious douche who conveniently gets out of ridiculous situations. Highs and lows have always existed, but when you get to the point of liking Austin Powers more than this movie, it has become an abyss. Let us hope that the next one is decent. Expand

It has a lot of action scenes throughout the movie but the story is where the real problem lies, first of all the vilian who is played by Christoph Waltz should be much better, but its not his fault its the script he was given to work with and the scenes with the bond girl character fell flat as well. Now apparently Bond has feelings and cares about a random girl enough to settle down. And all the women he beds now aren't 18 year old beauty queens because now he starts the movie hooking up with a middle aged widow. I have to say that the main female lead later in the movie is less than stunning, compared to the typical Bond girls of yore, but that's probably intentional for some reason to show a different kind of beauty in this supposed evolved culture of ours where James Bond can be sexually attracted to a woman over 40 and a girl with less than supermodel looks and a rather average body. It was a bit jarring to see them so concerned with getting dressed up and changing into multiple fancy formal outfits as if they were attending the academy awards, when they were in the middle of no-where without much luggage. I guess that's how a spy packs for an emergency trip to save humanity at a moment's notice: perfectly coordinated outfits replete with matching sunglasses and accessories while they dodge bullets in immaculately tailored and freshly pressed Gucci couture. And when did Bond become so non-sexual and not take off his shirt even once? Yes, Daniel Craig is getting old, and there are shots in the movie where the lighting makes his face look like a deflated radial tire because it's so sunken in and wrinkled, but at least his chest must still look good I would imagine. Mind you, I'm glad I saw the film, and it entertained me, but it wasn't a movie that made you say, "Gee, that was the best Bond movie I've seen in a long time." Easily forgettable 15 minutes after you leave the theater. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its no Skyfall but its still better than Quantum of Solace. I was excited when it was announced that SPECTER would return and I was hoping the film would be a remake of Thunderball. While that is not the case, the film does a good job at paying homage to several classic Bond films like From Russia With Love and Dr. No (only a true Bond fan will notice these). The story is good but the concept of all the films being connected by SPECTER was stupid while the plot of Blofeld motive being Daddy Issues is idiotic. However it was still good film to watch. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Daniel Craig is the best Bond. So why, why, why does he keep getting the worst scripts?

Casino Royale was great until it lost its momentum and delivered no interesting second-half set pieces. Quantum was a mess, Skyfall was pretty but hollow, and had one too many deux ex machinas.

Spectre was just...boring. The car chase was barely a chase, with zero sense of peril or urgency. Monica Bellucci may have been handed the dumbest Bond Girl role in the franchise. I know Bond is supposed to have some special allure and be a lady magnet, but what a dumb scene. Zero chemistry.

Bond's plot armor renders him impervious to torture, and his escape is a rushed, explosive snooze-fest. Why are the producers suddenly scared to put Bond through the wringer physically? There were zero stakes until the end, which I admit had some tension. but it mostly seemed like a rushed attempt to justify the cast. Andrew Scott's character was a total waste of talent. Christoph Waltz was perfectly menacing, but his motivation was laughable in a film that tried way too hard to take itself seriously.

Another critic put it best: "This isn't a Batman movie. Not everybody needs an origin story."

Bond movies, in my opinion, are supposed to be fun first. Movies like Goldeneye handle the balance of camp and believability perfectly. A movie with that sort of production value, rhythm, and tone was sorely needed here.

I was dying to like this movie. I figured with the introduction of M and Moneypenny in Skyfall, they were moving toward a more traditional Bond in this film. Nope. They've been promising that for three films now, and it's more of the same "edgy," "gritty" nonsense. It kind of worked for Casino Royale. Now it's just exhausting.

It's quite a strange film, meaning that Craig's journey as Bond is more or less a deconstruction of the character in lieu of its modern competitors, namely the Bourne and the Mission Impossible franchise. Spectre in comparison is an assembly of the character back into a typical Bond film. Exotic locale? Check. Crazy headquarter of the main villain? Torture that leads to Bond escaping? Check. Sure, Craig is still stellar, but the film itself tries too hard without offering anything new. One thing for sure: it looks and feels expensive, maybe the highest budgeted Bond outing ever. However, Skyfall seemed to create a crazy amount of pressure to the film makers to repeat its 1 billion dollar performance. The end result is a muddled plot to connect all of Craig's previous outings, and a waste of great talents such as Monica Belucci and Christoph Waltz.. Is it worth a watch in the cinema? Hell yeah! Don't expect too much though. Expand

We have the good guy; the baddie; the girl; the car; the stunning locations; the set pieces; the stunts and the song. What could possibly go wrong? Well, on this occasion, actually quite a lot! Whilst up a few notches from the lamentable ‘Quantum of Solace’, it’s also noticeably well below the high standard set by Sam Mendes last directorial effort, the fabulous ‘Skyfall’.
Things get off to a flying start in Mexico City with a stunning set piece which gets the anticipatory juices flowing. However, it’s all downhill soon after and by the time the movie has hit the sixty minute mark it is in desperate trouble. Daniel Craig seems completely jaded this time out and Lea Seydoux is a weak and anaemic Bond girl. As the baddies Andrew Scott is refreshing, but I really don’t think I can be alone in stifling yawns at yet another villain from Chistoph Waltz’s seemingly limited canon.
In addition to the disappointment of the performances one also feels let down by the action. Aside from the opening and closing sequences which are very good, nearly all the other set pieces and stunts feel bland, second rate and unexciting. The whole enterprise just seems tired and even the usually welcome tongue in cheek humour is sadly absent. None of this is helped one iota by an unmanageable 2 and a half hours running time which leaves one anaesthetised by the singular lack of thrills. Even the song (which admittedly grows on you) is not up there with the greats, and one can’t help but recall an apt line from Adele’s 'Skyfall' – ‘This is the end’. Well, amen to that!

Although the first scene in Mexico City is well done, it didn’t top the first scene of Quantum of Solace for me. Then things slowed down and I nodded off (literally) until Lea Seydoux entered the film. I thought she was very fine, although not as deliciously malevolent as Eva Green in Casino Royale. But to me the biggest weakness was Christoph Waltz, a fine actor but when you keep flashing pictures of Mads Mikkelsen, Javier Bardem, and Mathieu Amalric (currently my favorite actor) on the screen as previous Bond villains, you cannot help seeing Waltz pale in comparison – and he was supposed to be the most twisted of all. Dare I say this – he seemed too nice. And the film was about a half hour too long and could have used judicious snips elsewhere too. But having brought up all these negatives, I thoroughly enjoyed the last hour – perhaps because Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes brought more personality to their roles. And I do agree with many reviewers that Andrew Scott is much too “one note” as an actor to be anything else but an annoyance. I kept thinking – what is Moriarty doing in this film? I just read Scott is in the new Frankenstein movie – oh no, please no. Expand

Spectre's sequence where the song comes in was outstanding. Surprisingly, I thought this was much more violent and sexy than Skyfall. The action was amazing and Daniel Craig is awesome in this role. Christoph Waltz as the villain was pretty cool and the entering sequence of him in the court was very thrilling and suspenseful. I haven't seen Casino Royale, but I am now dying to see it. Also, the female protagonist is very pretty and the film was awesome! Don't get let down by the negativity! Just go see the movie; it will live up to your expectations!

Paid for James Bond, got Mission Impossible 4, Fast and Furious 7 and Goldmember.

Making good fiction is often about pushing the boundaries of believability and unfortunately Spectre pushes so far as to land firmly within the realms of comedy, you will be laughing at this version of James Bond rather than laughing with him.

Perhaps Daniel Craig epitomises what a typical American audiences want a tough English spy to look like; so old he looks pensionable but with a stiff upper lip of superhero proportions firmly held in place by a bad LA botox and a face like an unhappy emoticon which occasionally changes from :{ to :| or when James Bond is feeling especially aroused in the company of a woman half his age and twice as good looking : /
Unfortunately, 'lecherous old man does tricks' is pretty much the recurrent theme throughout this movie. The film starts of in the Mexico City centre in what appears to be the most organised street party the world has ever witnesses without a single Mexican in sight, Bond has pulled a Colombian supermodel and brought her up to a hotel room for a quickie :/ but then abandons her to go and blow up a building in order to stop a terrorist threat.

The massive explosion brings down a whole building and dissipates the crowds in the streets only for them to magically reappear immediately so that Bond can hide amongst the crowd as he hunts down a super-villain cunning enough to survive the massive explosion that occurred in the room he was in only moments before. Needless to say, his white suit is a little bit dirty in places. The pursuit ends up as a fight in a helicopter where it takes the English spy assassin about 5 whole minutes to win fight with the helicopter driver who has one hand on the control stick during the whole airborne punch up. Of course, he boots him out the window in the end in text book James Bond style.

The film takes every opportunity to break the spell of believability and does so with gusto about every 30 seconds. You have to expect some of this with any action film, like the scalectrix style street race through the empty car-less streets in central Rome (yeah right!) where two supercars powerslide and jump their way through cobbled streets. You can do that occasionally in a film, but to do it for 2 hours and 30 minutes make the film feel more like a comedy as ridiculous event upon ridiculous event pile up one after another in an unceasing barrage of silliness. It is not supposed to be a comedy!

After 30 minutes I realised that the film was not actually going to even try to get down to any real serious Bond business and I found I was laughing at Bond, rather than laughing with, and looking around the cinema thinking: "all these people have been conned into watching 'generic big budget action movie' and so have I." There is nothing particularly 'Bond' about it and it seems this Bond misses the open goal completely and instead does an impression of Mission Impossible 4, Fast & Furious 7, and more accidentally - Austin Powers in Goldmember.

As a massive fan of science fiction I found this films inability to attempt to step down a fraction and engage in any level of believable fiction thoroughly disappointing. It careens along carelessly and rapidly like a featherlight, candyfloss and popcorn powered roller coaster through a barrage of nonsensical action sequences that made me wonder if the script had been written through observing two 6 year-olds playing with action figures, E.G.

"And then bond chases after the cars in his air plane, he pulls alongside and winks at the bad guy, no he gives him a salute, no he does both! Yeah! Then the plane crashes into the trees but only loses two wings! Bond keeps chasing them with the plane though. He slides it down the hill like a toboggan with propellers. Bond does a handbrake turn, then smashes his plane-toboggan straight through a garage full of chopped logs crashing into the bad guys cars on the other side and wipes them all out! Yeah!"

But maybe some people like that sort of thing.

discussion about sound FX for the movie, and the commentator let slip
that this was one of the fastest made Bond films. The haste that went
into getting it into the cinemas before Star Wars is obvious.

Monica Belluci is wasted with a 2 minute cameo. Lea Seydoux (who was
impressive in Blue is the Warmest Color) deadpans as a dumb bimbo
making occasional angry faces (a low even for a sexist Bond film, where
women are props in the game of men), while wasting the talents of the
incredible Ralph Fiennes (who tries hard, but fails with weak
dialogues). What's missing in the picture are the bond villains. What
bond villains? They are as good as non-exist, with no personality,
trite dialogue and a plot so weak that Battlestar Gallatica seems like
a masterpiece in comparison.

There is the usual chase scene, some impressive airborne stunt, and
somewhere in between the action, a couple dialogues, as bond chases the
bad guys and unravels their uninspired plans - what's missing is the
plot.

You know when the villain suggests casually to Bond in every film, "I
expect you to die Mr. Bond" - well perhaps their dream will come true,
as this film might just be the death knell for the bond franchise. I
want my $11 back!

Let me get back to those positive reviews. The people who wrote them should be put on trial. I have taken the liberty to write reviews for select movies that I felt were being, for lack of a better phrase, "critically abused". Spectre is Not Skyfall or Quantum of Solace or even Casino Royale, but it is Spectre and it is a very good James Bond movie. The task of the director to come back a reproduce "lightening in a bottle" again is a very unfair expectation, but if he happens to do it, then we should be very grateful and not smug. This movie showed a weary, determined Bond, but also gave use a possible new concept about Bond which probably frightens most people, that Bond can actually be human. Start to finish if you have seen the recent Daniel Craig Bond movies takes us on the most obvious journey and the ride is very cool. Spectre is very Good. Expand

My Main problem with this film is how they tried to link the 3 previous Bond Films to this one. It just didn't make much sense and was too unbelievable and contradictory for me to be invested in the story. The lack of Christoph Waltz was very disappointing, as he only gets around 10-15 minutes screen time in a 150 minute film. I found the first hour and a half of the film to be pretty dull and boring, it picks up in the final hour and was quite enjoyable towards the end. It's better than Quantum Of Solace, but not as good as Casino Royale and definitely not as good as Skyfall. Expand

In all probability at a cost of over $300mil to make it may be the most expensive Bond film and may be, just maybe, the last time Daniel Craig will play the role.

You go into a Bond film expecting certain things and they are here from the women James will seduce to the gadgets that Q will come up with to the martinis and the villains who want to dominate the world. The body count is high and disturbing scenes of violence that seem to go further here than the previous films while the pacing of setting up the next episode seems slower making the movie unnecessarily longer.

Monica Bellucci as a widow, Stephanie Sigman going to Bond’s hotel room in that opening sequence and, in particular, Lea Seydoux, as the love interest, along with Naomie Harris as MoneyPenny all serve the script and Bond.

Christoph Waltz, as the villain, will not be remembered along with other Bond villains but he does have one turn your eyes away from the screen scene that will be remembered. He, also, introduces and/or recalls what may have made Bond what he is. There seems to be more psychoanalysis and hinting at Bond’s past in this film than previously--a set up for the next chapter?

Ralph Fiennes returns as M with the role larger than previously, Ben Wishaw as Q is very impressive while Andrew Scott as C wants to close the 00 agent operation down completely and adds an element of surprise to the denouement of the plot.

Daniel Craig is comfortable in Bond’s tuxedo, and many other costume changes, mainly black or brown clothes, is convincing in his fights, the romance/sex scenes, the chases and handling the emotional scenes along with the ideas planted as to why he is what he is not to forget the half smile, possibly a smirk, that comes across every now and then.

The opening tune sung by Sam Smith is quickly forgettable and at times the music by Thomas Newman is bombastic at the wrong time though the original Bond theme is always a winner.

The screenplay by John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Jez Butterworth is not as sharp as their previous effort, “Skyfall” and slows down the movie which could partially be the fault of the Director Sam Mendes. He has to many non-verbal scenes that don’t add to what is about to happen but he does himself and the series proud with the action scenes.
Going into “Spectre”, or any Bond film, you know what to expect and this one delivers even if it takes longer to do it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The homage to Live and Let Die in the start is nice. The long continuous shot is something you did expect in a film like this, but works well. The fight in the chopper is cool, but did not take my breath away.
From here the film go into a slow crash dive.
The script has so many plot holes, all the mandatory things are there - maybe too many?
Why not look to OHMSS, that they have a large homage to? Don`t try to put in everything if it do not work. Make changes! That what made both OHMSS and Casino Royale great.
And in both these films we had female protagonists that could match JB in a much better degree.
The villain was a huge disappointment. You kind of think a mastermind with so big organization would be a bit more secretly, less, crazy, etc. Blofeld feels like a weak imitation of himself.
The most exciting thing that night, was to see the Star Wars trailer before the film and this is from a huge James Bond fan.

When Skyfall was named Best Film of the Year by the British Academy or BAFTA, I would like to have assumed the "Academy" would follow suit, but in typical United States hubristic fashion, it did not. Not surprising of course. Now, the puny minds who review films in this country but know nothing of either art or life have rationalized themselves, their puny minds, that is, into the facile, puerile, and most infantile notion that Spectre is a substandard film. You know the movie is going to be less than great just from the opening title sequence and song. Oh well. It's okay overall, but not near on the level of the best.
Here's my ratings for Daniel Craig's previous 007 outings:

My top five favorite Bond movies: "Moonraker", "The Spy Who Loved Me", "Goldfinger", "Casino Royale", "Skyfall". And the five worst in my book: "Die Another Day", "Quantum Of Solace", "A View To A Kill", "The World Is Not Enough", "License To Kill".

A good Bond film, but not a great one. The filming, pacing, acting, and emotion are all there; it’s the plot that doesn’t hold up. And since the set-up is three movies long, it feels like a little bit of a let-down by the end.

The great allure of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies has not been Daniel Craig as Bond, but the underlying story arc. Where the previous 20 films brought us increasingly far-fetched episodes in the career of a decreasingly relevant cold-war spy, Casino Royale was a masterful reboot and the beginning of (what appears to be) a four-episode uber-plot. Gone were the references to geopolitical turmoil; in where the references to some sinister organization controlling global crime through a highly secretive network. In the middle of it all we sensed a Moriarity-level spider pulling all the web-lines, with James Bond slowly circling into the middle of the web at the expense of all he holds dear. This was finally the out-sized story line worthy of an out-sized character, and we loved it: Casino, Quantum, and Skyfall grossed more than the 10 movies preceding the reboot.

And now are at what looks like a logical end to the story arc, so we have to ask – does this movie hold up as a satisfying end to a four-episode story? In my opinion, the answer is: “almost.” Whereas Skyfall gave us a truly masterful film by any standard, Spectre is only a masterful film by James Bond standards.

As a stand-alone film, Spectre is head-and-shoulders above most action movies this days. The story is intriguing, the filming is absolutely top-rate, the pacing is near-perfect , and the acting is spot on. Bond fans will be particularly pleased with a return to some bond basics…multiple locations, multiple ladies, multiple expendable henchmen, and a super-villain with a super-lair. We also get a number of nods to Bonds past, like Dave Bautista’s clever update on “Jaws” (including the fight on a train) and a suspiciously furry white kitty.

However, as part four of what has been a masterful story so far, Spectre doesn’t give us the payoff we deserve (especially in comparison to recent ‘concluding’ films like The Dark Knight Rises). In a nutshell, it feels as if plausibility has been sacrificed for convenience; as if everyone agreed the story needed to end and no one knew how to end it. We get the ending we expect, but the path is too convenient. Most conveniently, there are too many easy-outs: from the ease with which Bond beds his women (one of which absolutely HAS to be #1 on the playlist for Wedding Crashers’ Chazz Reinhold), to the ease with which super criminals transform themselves into bumbling, monologue-ing, capture monkeys.

It has been a great ride and Spectre is great fun to watch. And although it isn’t quite the same caliber as the set-up, it would require superhuman ennui to not to at least enjoy watching it. AND…I can’t way to see what Bond cooks up next.

I was really disappointed by this movie. I liked the previous Bond films with Craig, but everything about this just didn't work for me.
Things that didn't work for me:
1. Helicopter fight scene - I'm just going to cause a stall with this helicopter and then kill the pilot, then I'm going to pilot the helicopter myself. He could've just told the pilot - land over there.
2. He just killed this woman's husband but then thinks its a reasonable idea to go over to her house and basically force himself on her.
3. M says well I need this job cause I have a mortgage and a family but OK I'll disregard my orders to help you anyway.
4. I'm going to rescue the daughter of the assassin that I just gave a gun to so that he could kill himself and then I'm going to bang her. Then she's going to express her love for me even though we just met like two days ago.
5. Let's take a train to the middle of the desert and enter the enemy's camp with no weapons, plan or backup and of course we're going to win.
6. Oh were the bad guys and we know everything because we have this big surveillance operation that we just demonstrated but we don't think to strip search James Bond and make sure he doesn't have any nifty life saving gadgets on him.
7. Hi I'm James Bond and I'm going to use a plane to chase cars and then I'm going to crash the plan and kill everyone but I don't get a single scratch on me. Oh and its been 10 minutes since something blew up so here is an explosion.
8. So the main bad guy is this brilliant man who works behind the scenes to establish this world wide terrorism conspiracy surveillance system but what really has been bothering him this whole time was jealousy of James Bond because the bad guy's father gave James Bond some attention.
9. Oh, and now that we're closing in on the end of the movie it's time for pointless explosions again.
I think this movie may have been written by a ten year old.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler alert:-
After watching this film, while I felt I had enjoyed the 2.5 hours in the cinema, I was never fully engrossed in the story I was presented. The characters themselves were well played but the overall story was just not very good. Given this was Bonds first real experience with Spectre, it never had any real tension or drama.
Pros
- DC as Bond. He is a good bond.
- Supporting cast from Q and M. A little light humour and the seriousness together.
- Opening scene in mexico.
- Blofeld - a good villian.
Negatives
- C - unfortunately, Andrew Scott played exactly the same character here as he did when he played Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes, which meant from the first line he spoke, you knew he was a bad guy. There was no surprise when it turned out he was.
- The story - The whole Spectre controlling the world at the same time as the C branch want to centralize all world intelligence agencies. We all knew what was going to happen. Because of this, there were no big revelations or surprises. Within the first 20 minutes of the film, you knew exactly what was coming. Very poorly done.
- Ending - Bond walking off with the girl. He tried to do this in Casino Royale. Make a choice between your job or the girl, and he choose the girl. Been there, done that. In 2 of the 4 films DC has done, he's chosen the girl over his job. It's old news.
- Some of the action scenes were OTT - in the scene in the desert, a small fire ended up blowing up the whole Spectre complex. WTF? why. That would never happen. This is just one that stuck in my head. Bond escaping from the spectre meeting in Switzerland. Tons of security going in, none coming out.

Overall the characters were well played. Unfortunately, they were acting out a poor story and no matter how they did it, it was always going to leave a sour taste.

Spy films are a dime a dozen, so what makes James Bond so special? Is it the fight scenes, the crafty villains, his style, or maybe just all of it combined? James Bond time means time to try new things in film, which is why even twenty-fourSpy films are a dime a dozen, so what makes James Bond so special? Is it the fight scenes, the crafty villains, his style, or maybe just all of it combined? James Bond time means time to try new things in film, which is why even twenty-four films later, the story is still fresh and the character is still relevant. Spectre may be no different in terms of James Bond on a mission to stop a madman from destroying the world, but each film is different in the way it is shot, and each Director and actor brings their own take, style, and personality to the series. Spectre is a lot more audience friendly and lot easier to follow than many previous Bond films, but what made this one really special was the unique action sequences that I've never seen anywhere else. The balcony and helicopter scenes alone are enough to get any action junkies blood pumping. In film number twenty-four, James Bond is following up on the events in Skyfall, trying to find out who killed M. During his investigation he discovers something a lot bigger, an underground global terror network, that is responsible for many of the missions he's had to go on. Daniel Craig is of course fantastic and I still content that he is far and away the best Bond ever, but in this film, he meets a villain who may be one of the best villains ever. There is just something about Christoph Waltz that makes audiences hang on his every word. We first saw it in Inglorious Bastards six years ago, and since then he's only gotten better. The chemistry and friction between the two characters and the two actors trying to one up each other is nothing short of spectacular. While many fans of the series don't like how modern it's become, I feel as though the series is re-inventing itself with each film, and Spectre, is definitely among the most unique and special in the series. Craig is a great Bond but this script really felt tossed-together. I like the throwback quality to this film but attempts to ape some of Bond's better moments without properly motivating them fall flat. Waltz, Bellucci, and Bautista are all somewhat wasted. The two good action scenes are the opening sequence with the chopper and a bout with Bautista's character on the train. The car chase could and should have been done better. This film's high budget shows but it is lacking in the artistry fans expected, especially considering the good work Mendes did on Skyfall. Here the editing and cinematography are often at odds and the script is riddled with plot holes and inconceivable happenings. This film could have been so much better, but it simply lacks the layer of polish the other Craig Bond films had. Here's hoping Craig gets one more go as Bond as this was not a proper send-off. The action scenes are great even if a little ridiculous, the villain was good but he was very underused, but spectre the organisation itself was interesting. My biggest complaint was that the movie went for too long, it could have been much more interesting and tense if it was shorter, it also would have solved the problem that it started very slowly and took a while for things to get going.

You will enjoy spectre, will you love it? Maybe not, but it is good entertainment, there was no WOW moment or any stand out to remember, funny enough the best part of the movie was when i saw the Star Wars trailer before the movie.

Whilst Lea Seydoux gives an impressive performance, and Ben Wishaw's portrayal of Q is further developed expertly, Christoph Waltz's role as the main villain is underwhelming in a narrative sense. The story, which is heavily harmed by the fact that Waltz is only present in the final act, seems to have run dry. It appears that Mendes as the director, and Daniel Craig as Bond have past their prime in bringing James Bond to screen. Nevertheless, Spectre acts as a good sendoff for both and is certainly a film worth watching in the cinema. Expand

Bellucci is utterly wasted, Bautista has a single word line, and Waltz is as excellent as he can be with what he's been given. It was only a matter of time for producers begin to realizeSince the first 007 film until San Mendes' "Spectre" have been impregnated its own original stamp but this does not mean that the James Bond's films The movies are only originality. It was only a matter of time for producers begin to realize imitations of successful franchises (Batman). The James Bond's last three films are based on these franchises full of cliches, explosions, love , good and evil , girls and more filler.

'Spectre' is completely original stunts and explosions, trains, planes, helicopters, Mexico, day of the death, the Bond girls , secrets , lifesavers, bombs, jokes, eccentric scenarios and the discovery of the author of all the suffering of agent 007.

If you love Skyfall and all the rest of the list, you will love the game of decisions and findings of 'Spectre'. The antagonists of this story is the familiar Franz Obenhauser come back to finish destroying the little life that has 007. (Remember that he is the author of all his suffering). His development in the movie is awesome, and can show us his real hatred against his half-brother. (even with a catastrophic scar in the eye)

Yes, undoubtedly, 'Spectre' was a great movie with scenes full of drama and action but gradually it decreases the level of film, evaporating our minds as 'Skyfall'.

Or Maybe the script is the real problem, the story is quite illogical and soft achieving confuse viewers too. The explosions , chases and shootouts won't fix a bad history.

Whatever the cause, "Spectre" is a movie where the media shows a completely different face to what really is it ( Like "Terminator Genisys", Remember). Nowadays, the media abuse their authority, they play with the minds of viewers with one purpose capture the attention through TV SPOTS, Teaser, Trailers, CLIPS, Featurette and more publicity.

It is almost unnecessary to mention that one of the strongest points of the movie is the fabulous theme song Sam Smith "Writing's On the Wall" which it was introduced in the movie to start. Personally , they presented the song in the film in a rather strange way (A brief explanation about the organization 'Spectre'). It was quite peculiar.

The character Moneypenny (Naomie Harris)is not very important in the movie but she helps Bond, is her function, Right?. The girls Bond (Monica Bellucci - Léa Seydoux) made their performances at high but definitely and obviously the face of the film is for Bond. Really, I do not know much about the old Bond films but Daniel Craig 'Spectre' made a fascinating characterization and without doubt is one of the best James Bond for his elegance , style , poise , joy , humor , hard work and all you have a great agent 007,

Even at a simple glance, the 'Spectre' Trailer makes promises it can not keep. The dark touch that gave Sam and Waltz is frightening, treating us to give the first Bond Horror movie.

But of course 'Spectre' falls short of trying to imitate the Nolan's classic. This movie was not entirely a lost opportunity, but really they did not avail all the privileges that have a Bond film .'Spectre' has beauty, class and all the weight of its predecessors (more than anything 'Skyfall'). James Bond is back for twenty fourth time , does not the best way but he returns, and yes:

- "He's Bond, He's James Bond"

Although Skyfall's still better, Spectre had good acting and a good story. However, there wasn't that much action scenes. For that it's kind of a disappointment. Other then that this movie deserved a solid 9/10.

Hence one point. Go see Sicario instead !

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What can I say other than disappointing?

The first twenty minutes with the Day of The Dead 'single shot' and then the helicopter fight (which I will admit was a bit silly but c'mon it's supposed to be Bond) and then the scene with Christoph Waltz's character's introduction. These twenty minutes were the only twenty minutes that felt like a Bond film. Literally immediately after that, the plot became lame, cliche and even boring in parts. It felt like a default action film with an even more default romance, which by the way, is not believable at all.

Another problem I had with the film was Sam Mendes trying to give Bond a deep emotional side. I can see why he might want to do this, and I can kinda agree with it, I think it would genuinely be very interesting to go into the psyche of a man who lives such a fast-paced, violent life. It was the way Mendes went about it that annoyed me. They tried to introduce this Spectre storyline (which hadn't been built up to at all in any of the previous movies) which was frankly just too stupid to even consider. The previous Bond movies had been gritty, more realistic Bond films, with villains who were believably evil, and seemed to actually possess some form of logical agenda. Oberhauser (the villain in Spectre) had no agenda other than....being evil? Taking over the world? I mean really.....could you be more of a cliche? He even had a bloody white cat!

All in all, I think Christoph's acting prowess was wasted on a poorly written villain with a poorly written plot in a poorly written movie. A sad blemish on Daniel Craig's Bond record, which pre-Spectre had been fantastic (I actually liked Quantum!)

Filled with fun action, beautiful women, questionable choices by the main villain; it's really everything that we've learned to love about Bond. It brought back memories of Austin Powers and Dr. Evil toying with each other. "I'm going to leave them alone and not actually witness them dying. I'm just going to assume it all went to plan. What?" Sure there were some stolen plot lines from previous films from the genre, such as Mission Impossible. IMF and the double O programs are both being terminated, and we even had the beautiful Léa Seydoux in both franchises now.

Spectre is just a lot of fun, and while I will be the first one to admit it is not as well done as Skyfall, but I have to admit I enjoyed this one much more.

There is a reason why Spectre would be the worst Bond movie I have ever seen. I was excited was 3 things which were never happened to this series before. Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux and ofcorse Skyfall.
There have been good Bond girls but never been such a magnificent, mysterious and furious combination. Where Bellucci has a cult following for being best Italian seductress, Seydous has been famous for her untamed method and flawless aura. But what a waste, none of the ladies were given the role to justify they hype they created with the casting. Seydoux’ character was the most confused in the film, one minute she is mourning her father and next she is flirting and seducing Bond. She very much reminds you of Olga Kurylenko from Quantum of Solace.
Enough with my outrage now little business. Opening sequence as well as background score was top notch so as Daniel Craige. The missing elements were the key one. Strong and focused story and powerful direction. Spectre had a strong structure, a childhood jealousy at a global level. But did they really have to mix it with Privacy Rights and internal failure of MI6? Especially if they were not good at handling it. Bond is known for perfection and skills but Spectre’s fight sequence leave too much on chance. Except the opening sequence and barehanded fight in train none of the action were impressive.
Finally, adding Bautista to the caste was such a bad decision. It is perhaps something they learned from Fast and Furious who added Dwayne Johnson few years ago. And Sam Mendes should be over with defaced antagonists. Perhaps he will then concentrate on what should go on in their minds.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have seen every 007 movie (I am 70+ so that is a lot of 007). Sean Connery is the best 007. He is a genuine Brit so he fit the part more than anyone else. Friends who saw Spectre all said they were disappointed.
On a scale of 1 - 10, I give Spectre a 3!
Why? It is too damn loud!
Too much blasting music even when someone is talking. The volume keeps increasing until the seats shake and earplugs are required.
All three theaters in The Villages, FL have the most up-to-date Dolbe sound systems. No other movie I have watched in The Villages theaters was like Spectre.
Spectre is in all 3 theaters. Now I know why there are a lot of empty seats.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I had to sum up the film in one word, that word would be: soulless. It's baffling to really understand how Spectre went wrong, but I think I've managed to find some root causes.

On paper it has the potential to be on of the better films, and the retention of the majority of the Skyfall team should have delivered a polished, and concise movie about the introduction of Bond's greatest nemesis and cinema's original megalomaniac.

A strong opening scene ends up being extremely misleading for what is yet to come although predictably, Daniel Kleinman's title sequence is as slick as ever, even if Sam Smith's theme feels awfully out of place considering the subject matter at hand: global domination and the nature of surveillance.

Post-title sequence, the cracks begin to show. The narrative of the film is what lets the whole production down. At first it may be surprising considering the misleading credits mentions the writers as Logan, Wade and Purvis, the same writing trio as Skyfall, with Wade and Purvis being veritable veterans to Craig's stint as Bond, also writing both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. The bulk of the writing was however done by Logan and director Sam Mendes. Wade and Purvis where brought in at the last minute to touch up some of the screenplay after Craig and Mendes were dissatisfied by the finished product.

Spectre then is a cautionary tale in what happens with a lack of peer-review. Ejecting Wade and Purvis may have been a decision motivated by finance, but right now it feels like it has backfired. Logan's writing is like a mish-mash of what is "expected" from a Bond film, but not necessarily well executed.

A bland car chase through the streets of Rome (or a non-descript back alley of Rome), decides to focus on some Moore-inspired humour, as what feels like 20% of the chase focuses on an overweight gentleman in a Fiat 500, it's an attempt at humour that outstays its welcome, but don't worry, the same car chase decides its also more interested in 009's taste in music and Bond's exasperation as Q forgets to load the car with ammunition. Compare this to Quantum of Solace's rip-roaring opening car sequence, where it gets dirty, bloody and brutal. The whole scene is indicative of the film over all. There is a lack of substance to every attempt at box-ticking the Bond tropes.

The romance sub-plot is hampered by Craig and Seydoux's barren desert of chemistry. Swann bizarrely decides she doesn't want to be part of the films climax, despite assisting Bond happily up to this moment, in what is some spectacularly awful writing. "I can't do this anymore" she crones, or words to that effect, then disappears until it's her turn to be rescued by Bond, again.

It's a far cry from Green's portrayal of Vesper in Casino Royale, who is shown to have her own agendas, her own vulnerabilities. The maturity of writing between Green's Vesper and Seydoux's Swann is perfectly exemplified with the brutal stairwell fight in Casino Royale and it's aftermath, compared to the train fight. In Casino Royale, Bond is bruised, bleeding and emotion exhausted, "get Mathis" he barks at Vesper and Vesper is left visibly traumatised by the events, allowing for her and Bond's emotional guards to drop in the shower scene that follows. In Spectre, Bond barely has a hair out of place after the train fight, makes a quip and he and Swann have sex. It's awkward and emotionally shallow writing.

Blofeld is barely worth mentioning, his scenes are sparse and we are left with virtually no rapport built between him and Bond for us to be invested in seeing his demise, a waste of a character. It's almost the opposite of Skyfall's Raoul Silva, a villain that gets extensive characterisation. The principle henchman portrayed by Bautista suffers from the same treatment. He pops up to be instantly whacked back down by Bond, there is very little tension in his scenes, he never "bests" Bond in the same way that Oddjob or Jaws did. We are told he is dangerous, but what we see is incompetence.

Overall, the film feels like it's Daniel Craigs first outing as Bond, as if he does not know what type of James Bond he wants to portray. The tone sways between an attempt to ground the film in some very contemporary political commentary with the "Nine Eyes" project (a plot thread which is dropped and left completely underdeveloped) to the inane, and dare I say, childish.

Why couldn't JB have been given a touch of Q's wit, humour or vulnerability? No wonder Daniel Craig wants out of this franchise - it's beneath his talent. Such a cacophony of totally forgettable dialogue, people and silly stunts is hard to imagine in a single movie and yet here it is. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. as a short film writer, here is how you know someone doesnt think their script is good. they force in jokes and comedy scenes that are unnecessary. this movie has a ton of those.

but anyway. Spectre is a sequel to 2012 amazing Skyfall. in this James Bond is hunting someone called Mr. White for some unexplained reason because M told him to in a recording.....

so Bond goes out after Mr. White who is sadely not the character from Breaking Bad cooking Meth in Mexico, but instead an idiot who fills his base with explosives, has eagle vision from Assassins creed, and always apears on screen ameraging through darkness (seriously check it). anyway Mr. White likes to make Bonds life shi* or something and decides to try and steal the 3rd Bond Chick in the movie.

but lets go back a bit. the Movie starts with AN AMAZING FIRST SCENE AND FIRST SHOT, SIMPLY AMAZING, IVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A SEEN SO EXPERTLY DONE. BRAVO. too bad that was the best scene in the movie. those were the positives, now back to the negatives or unexplanable.

so back to that first scene, Bond is chasing some guy in white to get his ring. after stealing said ring we are back at HQ which has changed positions to across the street while the old HQ that was blown up in Skyfall was busy getting hit by 5 nukes (seriously not that much time has passed for it to look like it was abandoned in the sevendies). anyhow there is trouble at HQ as this new guy 'C' wants to shut down the 00 agents just like in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. anyway so bond goes to the guy who he killed in the first scenes funeral and nails his wife who was about to be assassinated for some reason.

we skip ahead a bit and bond has already banged Bond Chick No. 2 and met Bond Chick No. 3 who said that she would never sleep with him.

just for fun my friends and i made a bet on how long from that moment they would bang. it took 10 minutes.

lets forget the story for a bit. the visuals are great, not Skyfall Great but still great. the soundtrack by Sam Smith is unfitting and actually weird... the Actors do a steller job with their terrible script.

and lets talk about the script, its bad, and i mean real bad. it makes some sense but its generally very silly and feels like it shouldnt be for a Bond Film.

back to the actors, Christoph Waltz is in this movie and he is in it too little. like 4 scenes hes in the movie and he has a terrible script in all those parts. such a disappointment. for those who dont know who he is, he played the Main Bad Guy in Inglourious Basterds.

SUCH A DISAPPOINTING MOVIE!
you want a recommendations? watch Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, it has a similar Story but does almost everything WAY BETTER.

that movie is a 810

this is more of a 510

The movie industry seems to be moving in that direction as movies this year are either sequels, adaptations or even remakes. These types of films shouldn’t be considered bad but they do remind the audience that Hollywood has simply run out of ideas. Spectre is a prime example of studio “giving up”. It seems to wander like a zombie in an industry plagued by repetitiveness.

Spectre not only destroys any hope for another great bond movie, but squanders what could have been a great send off for Daniel Craig. This train wreck completely ruins everything that the Craig era of Bond movies stand for, and it seamlessly tares down all of the great moments from the past films. This leaves us with a hollow shell of a movie about one of the most iconic characters in Hollywood.

Spectre is another Daniel Craig James Bond movie. Bond has just received a tape M left for him with simple instructions. To kill someone. This someone is the leader of the secret organization called Spectre. It’s an illicit organization does crimes to somewhat keep a balance in the world (reminds me of the Syndicate from almost every media). Bond has to go on another adventure that eventually links all of his past endeavors. They all link together somehow through this organization. Bond has to find out a way to stop this terrorist group before it’s too late.

The main problem with the film is the quite silly approach this time around. Skyfall succeeded mostly on a grim take that really allowed the audience to connect with the character. Craig doesn’t want to be Bond for a while, stating that the character has grown stale over the years. This is extremely true as we see a completely different character this time around. The screenwriters have resorted in giving us a bond that’s a cliché resemblance of the past.

To think of it as a whole, the movie is a cliché of the past. Instead of giving us a great plot with interesting characters, we’re treated with hollow characters, laughable dialogue, a cliché plot, a disappointing villain and many other atrocities.

Clichés are given to us on a silver platter which we’re supposed to swallow without saying a word. Though they’re extremely laughable in mostly every scene. There’s more than one part where the villain survives what should have been a killing blow. The audience watches as small little occurrences pop up that help drive the story along. At one point Bond so happens to wake up as a mouse in sitting the middle of the bedroom. Instead of shooting it, he lets it go back into its home in the wall. This allows bond to find a secret passage.

This lazy writing is just one of the many things the screenwriters do. Some blame has to fall on the director, Sam Mendes. The blend of old school bond and new school bond doesn’t mix at all. This allows for cheesiness into the film.

Casino Royale and Skyfall seemed to take themselves seriously enough not to have elaborate action sequences. The movie throws all that out of the window with actions scenes that seem to never end. A ten minute chase scene and then a ten minute fight scene. At one point bond is chasing a helicopter, with a boat and destroys it with his gun.

The movie isn’t all that bad though. The direction of the movie is very well done and the cinematography quite good. Although the actions scenes seem long and out of place, they’re very well-choreographed. Other than Lea Seydoux, the actors do a pretty great job. The portrayal of James Bond isn’t the best, but Craig tries his best with what he’s got.

Overall, Spectre could have been an amazing Bond film that really gave Craig a sendoff he deserves. However, it’s a movie bogged down by clichés that never seem to end. Ultimately this leads a movie that simply can’t be taken seriously. The connection to the last films is an interesting story, but it’s ultimately a cliché. Spectre is for those fans wanting to live the glory days of James bond films or can look past clichés that have plagued James Bonds films in the past. However, it could have done away with what’s ultimately the worst script in the series.

A solid Bond film. Not as special as Skyfall or Casino Royale, and not as weak as Moonraker or The Living Daylights. I enjoyed it--even though Judi Dench is missed, and the villain is underused.

With the daunting task of following ‘Skyfall’, a genre redefining Bond and the most successful British movie ever, producers have meticulously crafted a spy romp that ticks all the 007 boxes. From stunning locations in 5 different countries to spectacular action sequences, classic villains to tongue-in-cheek humour and sexy but substantial Bond ladies, ‘Spectre’ has everything you might expect from an James Bond film within a 21st century context.

‘Spectre’ also expands on the themes of cyberterrorism and the dangers of ubiquitous government surveillance established by its predecessor, while stretching out a fanciful mysterious storyline that weaves together the principal players in Daniel Craig’s Bond legacy so far.

So all the pieces you might expect or want from 007 are in place, and that’s the major problem with ‘Spectre’. If you constantly look for the same elements in every Bond film plus constant nods to the entire legacy, then you’ll love this film, as you should.

If however your expectations have been slightly warped by the bold and Bond-redefining ‘Skyfall’ then you might be disappointed here, it’s all a matter of perspective. For any modern Bond film there must be a balance between nostalgia and moving the character forward, ‘Skyfall’ struck that balance well and perhaps because of its success and the production issues with ‘Spectre’, producers have leaned heavily towards legacy here.

The film builds nicely but the final third descends heavily into archetype with story and characters you can see from a mile away, building up to a spectacular but predictable conclusion that’s ultimately underwhelming. Perhaps the most frustrating element of ‘Spectre’ is the criminal misuse of Christoph Waltz’s talents as a one-dimensional villain who’s familiar on way too many levels.

The Bottom Line…
While not the genre re-defining film that ‘Skyfall’ was and despite some disappointingly predictable elements, ‘Spectre’ has everything you might want from a 21st century Bond, grandiose while stylish, entertaining throughout and for us, it cements Daniel Craig as the greatest 007 thus far.

Thrilling, action packed and beautifully directed, "SPECTRE" keeps the audiences at the edge of their seat and if this is the final movie, in the Daniel Graig series, then it is powerful finale.

First off, I really hate the song played by Sam Smith from the opening credits, its just very annoying. I really had high hopes for this movie for it being another fantastic 007 movie from Sam Mendes who did the last 007 film Skyfall. It did had some enjoyable moment, there was a lot of well done shots in different scenes that makes it look awesome, especially the brutal train fight sequence with Dave Bautista. Speaking about Bautista, he is one of the cool parts about this movie and in my view, he is like the next Jaws(which kinda sounds weird). Besides all of that, it does have some real cheesy moments and some people will say the writing is kinda all over the place the movie just dragged on for too long and they made parts that is way too slow and I will get bored for a bit but for some reason Bond will spend a night with a girl that will only last for 5 secs. You have Christopher Waltz as the main villian but you hardly get to see him, you only see him once around the first quarter and you don't see him again until the very end, not really doing anything. Overall, its not the best 007 movie and won't win any Oscars again BUT some 007 fans might enjoy this for being a decent 007 film. If you are not a fan of 007, you are better off saving your money for now and watch Skyfall(or The Peanut movie that just came out)

It surely doesn't deserve all the negativity that it has to deal with. Spectre features an phenomenal openings sequence, a perfectly cast Bond villain, and a lot of action and humor which makes this longest Bond film not dull for one bit. However, the film does lack a bit of intelligence and the over-the-top action and silly one-liners do make this 24th Bond a bit worse than it should have been. Expand

As a long time fan of the Bond films and books I can't quite understand how this film is scoring lower than Skyfall, which although is a great film itself, I thought Spectre was a better film. The whole movie has a sense of building mystery and tension and I was hooked from start to finish. Everything from the cast to the direction was bang on point. Special mention must go to the cinematography as this is a truly beautiful film to watch. This is both a modern and classic Bond film at the same time. Personally, I think Daniel Craig's run as Bond has been the best so far. His portrayal of Bond is by far the closest to how Ian Fleming originally wrote him (with Timothy Dalton a close second) and it is going to be a hard task for the producers to find an actor to fill his shoes. Although it has been stated that Spectre wraps up Craig's Bond series of films so far, I do hope that he returns for at least one more outing. If you are a fan of the Bond franchise I don't see how you would be disappointed with this film. If you're not a huge fan but are looking for a good action/spy movie then you'd be hard pressed to find a better example than Spectre. Expand

Overall: definitely worth the watch for the filming and visuals alone. The action scenes were unreal. The plot was also good too. It portrayed the harsh realities of todays world. This was a classical bond film with a modern touch and some light humor, but overall a serious movie. I only feel that if they developed the villain a little more this could have been one of the best bond films of the Craig era and perhaps one of the all time great bond films

The film came at an inopportune time, as it has a similar plot to recent films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.” Spectre is entertaining, action packed, but a little too formulaic. In the end though the film is a good time at the theaters.
Spectre maintains the tone and feel of Skyfall, also directed by Sam Mendes, but lacks the finesse of Skyfall. Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz are all good in their respective roles, and help make the film more entertaining. The film also does a good job remaining serious, yet funny much like Skyfall, but despite good acting, humor, and tone the biggest strength of the film is that it is action packed.
The film is a little too long, but the action sequences are entertaining to watch, and fairly well shot. The best action sequences are those between Daniel Craig and Dave Bautista, mostly because Bautista embodies the silent powerful henchmen. The film does suffer from many weaknesses though, and is nowhere near as good as Skyfall. The biggest problem with the film is the plot.
The plot is a little too formulaic, as many plot points are straight out of other bond films, or other recent films, and thus become a little too predictable. The character development is bad, as they are given little development, and some characters are only in the film for minutes. The story is thinned out a little too much, and the villain is a little weak, despite Waltz’s performance. It would have been refreshing to see Spectre be as carefully crafted as Skyfall.
In the end Spectre’s tone, acting, and action are good, but the plot of the film is very weak. The film will likely satisfy Bond fans, and some casual fans, but is a little formulaic, and a little predictable. At the same time the film is not the best Bond film ever, and is probably the weakest of the Daniel Craig filmography.

To be completely honest and straight forward. I'm not a Daniel Craig type of guy, I'm more of a Pierce Brosnan. Either way here is my honest review of Spectre.

The movie was kinda a let down. They should have upped the film rating from PG-13 to R to get more action/gory scenes in the movie that is usually limited by the PG-13 rating. I thought it had cliche moments, situations, and endings in the movie that you can probably guess what is going to happen next, even if you haven't watched the movie. In general, the movie did not feel like a James Bond film it felt more like a movie that separated itself from the series.

In sum, the movie needed more action. It did not have enough of gadgetry like how a James Bond film should have and more focused on adding 'fluff' to the storyline.

They've unlearned the subtle personal touch of Skyfall and replaced it with empty spectacle. The writers tried to raise the stakes of the plot by introducing a villain claiming to have masterminded everything in the past four films, and it falls utterly flat. There was no work to build that payoff, and the attempt to reach into Bond's childhood past fails even more. Beyond the big plot failures, there are a half-dozen small things that break the film's flow: despite having been temporarily (if not permanently) debilitated Bond fights off a dozen men with incredible precision, after saying "I love you" another character decides to walk away from the relationship in the very next sequence, and finally "now we know what M stands for, 'moron'" must be the worst line in Bond history. Let me put it to you this way. Spectre isn't as bad as Quantum of Solace but not nearly as good as Skyfall. The film is very pretty to look at. The opening scenes are tremendous, but the rest of the film just doesn't hold up.

The plot is a little old (Bond goes rogue to stop a menace that only he sees as dangerous), and the tie-ins to the previous 3 films are contrived and unnecessary. I don't mind the lack of humor as much as some reviewers because Craig's Bond is, well, a bad-ass. Imagine Daniel Craig hamming it up with the red-neck sheriff from Live and Let Die. Wouldn't work.

One thing I did love is Mendes' penchant for honoring previous films (not just the Craig ones). There are somewhat obvious nods to Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, and even Man with the Golden Gun. The villain (skillfully played by Christoph Waltz) is menacing, but like the contrived tie-ins to Casino Royale and Skyfall, ultimately disappointing.

Spectre is much better than most of the Bond films of the last 20 years but unfortunately, it doesn't measure up against Skyfall and Casino Royale in quality.

Really disappointing considering the standards that its latest predecessor, "Skyfall", set. I know a lot of people are complaining about critics comparing those two movies, but honestly, the difference is quite notable. "Spectre" lacked the emotional resonance and substance that made far better Bond movies a success. I'm not saying it isn't good, it's just that the action in this one didn't fare as I wanted. Even knowing it's a 007 film, it's really hard to give a pass to the preposterous set-pieces. Like that helicopter that was spinning around and never crashed, near the beginning of the movie. Or that plane that James Bond was driving, how the f*ck was the airplane still moving after losing its two wings and the tail? And how about hitting the car where the henchman (played by Dave Batista) was driving as well? I know the guy has lot of muscles, but c'mon, let's be realistic here.

Though the cinematography was fine, especially in Austria. Every frame well put together. All that snow was so pretty to look at. On the other hand, I pretty much enjoyed Daniel Craig's typically smooth and charismatic performance. As usual, he brings a sense of energy to its character that is not possible to resist. The Bond female was also a plus. As for the villain, well, he was, disappointing. Being the biggest nightmare Bond has ever had, this film doesn't truly accomplish in illustrating that. You don't feel like he's the most evil thing that has ever happened to James. More like another bad guy who just got in the main character's way. That scene where he reveals himself was spectacular though.

If the rumors are to be true, and this installment is the last one we will ever see from Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig, then I guess it's a decent send-off for the franchise. While ultimately lacking unforgettable action and a worthy foe, "Spectre" has still its thrills, and I would recommend it if you're a Bond fan. As for the others, you might just go with your friends for merely popcorn entertainment, or you can just wait for the DVD.

Final Score: 6.5/10

He went from Place A to Place B and so on, following a trail, killing one person then another and another, found out one of MI5 employee is a double agent and he ultimately dies. Crucially, he saved a girl, not your typical 20th century dumb bond girl but a strong-willed girl who is out for revenge, he asked her if she knows what's it like to kill a person, they go into an seemingly empty desert, end up blowing up some villains' place, etc. Well, if you have seen that film, there's not really a point to see this one!

What an utter waste of $250m to repeat the same dull stuff again. If you need further proof of the laziness, two of the three writers of the Question of Sports have returned with copies of their previous script to do some minor editing and then submit as a new film!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spectre is a missed opportunity of a movie. First is Christoph Waltz. We are talking about an Academy Award winning actor who made Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained more than just good movies. He made them great movies. He complimented the story, the screenplay, the director and the cast perfectly and made the entire film much better. Not so much with this film. Mendes missed this opportunity as a director as did the screenwriters. Instead of creating a supervillan to equal Bond, they minimized his talents and essentially shuffled him into the background. In all of the Bond films, has Blofeld been minimized this much? Maybe Diamonds are Forever, but not like this. But I digress. This is but one problem I have with the film. The screenplay seemed forced at times, not fluid, and the dynamic between Moneypenny and Bond is stale. Ralph Fiennes was sterile as M and Dave Bautista who was so awesome in Guardians of the Galaxy was minimized himself. Daniel Craig dominated, and one would expect this as he is the centerpiece, but Spectre is not just an organization, it was the driving force behind most of the early franchise and created a perfect antagonist for MI6 and while its central place is highlighted, it is Bond who always overshadows the other players. It comes back to Blofeld. Instead of firmly establishing him as the counterpoint to Bond and creating a tense mystery story, all is revealed in a lackluster, Deus Ex Machina manner.
There is no ingenious or elegant cat and mouse game that was played so well in films such as From Russia with Love. There is no “big reveal” of who this person is, not in comparison to what the franchise has established. I think this has a bit to do with the editing. It seemed pieced together in a not so organic manner. It is a departure from Casino Royale and Skyfall. The film is not devoid of its highlights. Tying up the loose ends with Mr. White was nicely done. It created a nice link to the character Madeleine Swann, but instead of wasting our time with the Day of the Dead scenes which opened way too slowly but did make use of the long scene in a good way, the audience could have been slowly introduced to the Swann character in a tense build-up that could have culminated in the chase/rescue scene. It is but one of the miscues of this film that seemed rushed in order to beat the hype of Star Wars and rekindle the excitement of Avengers and Jurassic World and the incredible Mad Max: Fury Road. This movie would have benefitted from another several months of shooting or editing or maybe refinement of the screenplay. While not a horrible movie, the entire franchise missed an opportunity. Instead of creating a cohesive and incredible follow up, we are left with a bit of an average Bond film and one that may fall within the middle of the pack in regards of memorable.
