My daughter Cecil was very excited to see the movie “smile”. I said to her that sound like a nice movie, but when I looked it up on my apple MacBook computer I was horrified but the trailer. It made me sick to my stomach (sicker then when my ex husband ran off with his secutary). I forbid her to watch it, but her friends peer pressured her into it (classic Amiee always trying to be the queen bee). When my darling cecil came out of the cinema I got a call from her and she was absolutely livid. She wailed down the phone and I had to come and pick her up. As soon as I got there I saw a bunch of traumatised teen girls & had to drive all of them home. This was 3 WEEKS ago- and she has slept in my bed ever since. I tried to take her outside the house for a walk, but she refused. Well now I am paying £200 a hour for a trauma therapist and she said she has never seen a reaction this terrible. To the producers of the movie I say DARN YOU. Celil now had to defer her university place to next year and is wearing adult diapers.… Expand

It's riddled with cliches, jumpscares galore, and predictable plot beats throughout, all of which culminate to an infuriating ending that made the whole thing feel even more like a waste of time. Un film qui ne va pas vous donner le sourire, même au second degré… certes, c’est à tendance (vaguement) horrifique avec cette psychiatre qui voit des choses (et devient bargeot) mais ça ne vous fera pas peur non plus ! non, la seule choseUn film qui ne va pas vous donner le sourire, même au second degré… certes, c’est à tendance (vaguement) horrifique avec cette psychiatre qui voit des choses (et devient bargeot) mais ça ne vous fera pas peur non plus ! non, la seule chose que vous fera ce film, c’est… dormir !

Car en fait, il s’agit d’un somnifère ! en cas d’insomnie, regardez ce film pendant un certain temps (cela varie selon les gens bien sûr) et en général, vous piquez du nez en un petit quart d’heure ou au pire, allez en 20 minutes, c’est plié, vous ronflez comme un sonneur !

Il faut dire que la mise en scène molle devient de pire en pire (encore plus molle et endormie) alors qu’en même temps, le scénar de ce nanar de crevard fuit de toute parts et part on ne sait pas où (on s’est endormi, putain !). L’actrice principale joue mal et en plus, elle n’est même pas jolie… quant aux autres clampins égarés dans ce films de fous sous Lexomil (ou Prozac peut-être), il n’en mênent pas large non plus.

Bref, on a certainement de quoi faire la gueule ici parce que c’est nul à chier, ce truc (qui dure deux plombes lourdingues à mort !).… Expand

Super basic. The script is boring and awful. Cinematography is so over the top it ruins any tension it attempts to build. The actors are okay. The first scene is the best part. I did not like it much at all. The Ring, It Follows, elements of Hereditary and The Witch, and a bunch of other films on top. Instead, go watch those. This film is just leftover junk from the 90s with a 2020s veneer. It has nothing to sayI did not like it much at all. It has nothing to say beyond insulting mental health, trauma, and recovery and has an incredibly cynical and nihilistic ending that is just a gross bummer. There are some sharp comedic moments that work, but mostly I found myself laughing AT the movie instead of with it. It also continues the trend of "horror movie cutting to credits with a song from the 50s/60s that completely contrasts the tone of the film." However, unlike say Hereditary or the recent Barbarian, where those films earn the moment, Smile just throws it on because it wants to be thought of as all these other, far better films. If you love loud scores, jump scares, and a bland plot that plays out until it's dumb end, check this out.… Expand

Some pretty good visuals, but the need to hurt animals for shock value always tells me the story is lacking. Do not recommend me this movie! I've watched a short clip of this movie once! And in conclusion, to me, this is a wretched crap, a kind of junk I will considered even lower than garbage. Jumpscare my ass! Stupid movie!

An interesting metaphor under the pandemic: A bystander who eventually becomes infected and chooses to self-isolate in order to avoid socializing.

The reason for the 3/10 is that I think a lot of jumpscare baiting thins the story itself

very expectable, could have been alot more athmospherical, cheap jumpscares. a light meal â la marvel movies. watch with a friend if you wanna laugh about how bad this is, but maybe just watch something wanting to be trash.

Definitely one of the most overrated horror films to come out in quite some time. Even from the very beginning, I couldn't help but feel like this movie was too long for its own good. I'm going to be very harsh here because nobody else seems to be. You're telling me this is better than Hellraiser 2022? This??? It's horror movie bingo. Trauma subtext? Check. Cheap jumpscares? Check. Fake out ending? Check. Every **** scene is so predictable it just grated on my nerves. Even the concept is uninspired. I get it, horror perverts the familiar but smiling is not scary. In real life I'm sure it'd be offputting but here it just does not work. There are no stakes. I laughed more at it than jumped. Some moments here and there were decent, but the movie takes itself deathly seriously to diminishing returns. I like popcorn horror but this is kernel horror. Watch literally any of this movie's inspirations and you'll get more out of the experience. It feels like a 14 year old wrote this movie.… Expand
