It's not great, but not as bad as people are saying.
Ratchet and Clank is the movie adaptation of the popular Playstation game of the same title. Is this movie as bad as critics are saying? No, but that doesn't make it good, either. The movie offers very little to be entertaining; the jokes aren't funny, the story is bland, and the action is non-existent. As a game, it's fantastic fun, but as a movie, it's just plain boring and dull. Granted, the animation was done well, and voice acting was on point. Plus, it's very loyal to the games, having stupidly named and fun weapons, a few easter eggs paying homage to other Playstation titles, and overall pleasing fanservice. In conclusion, Ratchet and Clank doesn't have anything to hate, but it doesn't have anything to love, either. If the movie looks interesting to you, check it out and see what you think. If you're not interested at all, don't waste your time, because while this movie isn't bad by any means, it isn't that great, either.

Ratchet and Clank gets a 5/10.

The Story was more about Captain Qwark then Ratchet and clank. Dr. Nefarious became the villain and not Drek this is a problem because Nefarious had nothing to do with the first game. The presenation of the weapons weren't really that memorable and some Characters like Zed or Grim are also forgetable. This movie has Hashtags and Selfie Jokes in it instead of normal Ratchet and clank Style Things. The Story of Two fellas going around other planets to stop the villains from taking over the galaxy is a interesting story and all i get is Hashtags and Selfies. The Galactic rangers are **** and are made out of 4 People instead of a small army like in Ratchet and clank up your arsenal. I was so Hyped and exited from the movie to come out and when i saw it i was disapointed that it turned out that bad. I mean a Great video game With a great Story ends up being ****. i'm a Real Ratchet and clank Fan and i played the original trilogy as so the Future series. So i know much about the games the characters and the story. This movie just **** it up Expand

The humour was pretty good and the game references were outstanding but the plot just didn't meet the quality i expected from an Insomniac-related product. The lip syncing was distractingly bad in places, something that really shouldn't be an issue in modern movies.

Having Dr Nefarious appear as an alien instead of a robot was a great idea though, he was incredibly well animated with amazing facial expressions and it gave him a bit more of a backstory than "robot wants to make everyone robots" that you get in the games.

I just spent most of the movie sat there waiting for the suspense/tension to kick in and it was never there. The plot felt like it dragged on for way too long and the one time that people were genuinely in peril, we knew nothing about them other than "they exist" so it was hard to have any sort of emotional connection

So, going into this, I had no idea what to expect, but I was a bit surprised honestly. The film has quite a bit going for it, thanks to the gorgeous animation, solid voice work, occasionally clever jokes (and nice PlayStation easter eggs), fun-enough action, and especially the faithfulness to the source games. Sure, the movie does "kid-ify" things just a little bit with some juvenile humor and a rather basic, cliché story, but overall, "Ratchet & Clank" is a fun enough film and it's definitely better than you'd expect a video game-based film to be. It won't win awards for originality or reinvent the wheel, but it's an entertaining watch for children and fans of the franchise. Expand

It does have some good qualities however which the critical reviews seem to have disregarded; the animations and colours are very appealing, with heaps of imagination that will be to the liking of younger viewers. The characters themselves are good enough, with an interesting villain and a substantial threat. The stakes do feel high and the film succeeds in this sense. It has the feel and look of the video games it's based on.

It is very flawed though. For a film called 'Ratchet and Clank', from a game series that is about these two characters, there seems to be very little that makes you feel they have a deep, solid friendship. They meet as Crash lands on Ratchet's home planet, they become 'Rangers', and from there on the two don't seem to really be around each other much. Because of this, the ending between them feels out of place - it didn't seem like these two were really all that close. In addition, it's a cluttered and break-neck paced film that at times feels a little like an assault on the senses. There is non stop action, without many breaks, and it could have done with some slower moments and character development. I understand it's meant to have an intense feel, much like the games, but constant explosions, guns and enemies doesn't work nearly as well in a film.

Overall, it's just a standard children's movie. The story is relatively unoriginal, the pacing is rapid, but there are nice visuals and some fun moments. It was reviewed too harshly by critics, but it's certainly not a standout picture.

What Ratchet & Clank
This is the first time I've ever seen a video game based movie that actually stayed true to it's intended story.
Many great games have become terrible when converted to movies, and the same goes the other way around.

What Ratchet & Clank the reboot and the movie do very well is the fact that they complete each other.
This might not seem a hard thing to pull off, but in my opinion it actually is. Because no one wants to see a "recycled" story,
the filmproducers often seem to think. Kevin Munroe does what I think many gamers have always wanted, and that is to make a
video game based movie that resembles the actual game!

On with the review...
First off we have to ask ourselves, what is this movie and who is it's intended audience?
Clearly this movie is a tribute to the series as a whole, and according to my opinion, the majority of the intended audience is actually
us, the gamers. You could argue it's a kids movie, which it is to some extent. Though, who would find this movie funnier and more enjoyable,
a 25-year old Ratchet & Clank-nerd like myself or a 7-year old who knows nothing about the series recurring gags and "Simpsons styled comedy"?
Statement: This movie is mostly a hardcore fan service, which is noble, but backfires since the general population and "critics" don't understand it
and thus hate on it.

Is it a great movie? No. Does it have plot holes? Yes. Do we care? No. Why? Because it's Ratchet & Clank, we love to enjoy this duo in action
and all other weirdos that seem to populate the Solana Galaxy.
Storywise it's smart in the way that it gives us some explanation to the storyline in the game, not to say the least
it explains Qwarks actions. Which is in itself a tribute to the first Ratchet & Clank game from 2003.
Sure, the story is an utter cliché, but that's more to make it easier to digest for newcomers I think.
The drawbacks are the fact that it lacks in action, sure I absolutely love the fact that they present and use many of the cool weapons and gadgets
that were in the actual game, but as a gamer I'd like a scene that resembles the one in Doom (the movie) where we see some "gameplay".
Because we all know, Ratchet does not just land on site and strolls to the control room without some heavy resistence along the way.
I'd like to get to know the characters better though, it seems that Drek, Nefarious, The Rangers are just thrown in there, withouth any backstory.
The same goes for the "citizens" in Aleero city, at times it feels empty and shallow, and the only one we actually feel is with us at all times
is Ratchet, and that can get lonesome. Even Clank has pretty little screen time. And I can't describe any of the Rangers' personality,
because we never get to know them. I know Drek and Nefarious, but that's thanks to the games, not the movie.
However Qwark gets a pretty good introduction, thanks to Jim Wards marvelous voice acting.

The soundtrack, well... it didn't impress me at all, If I need to find it by myself after searching online to get it to reach out to me,
then it failed in the movie.
The voiceacting I feel was marvelous, with many originals thrown in there, feels comfy.
Many jokes were hilarious, no to mention the Wilhelm scream awareness, the robots' lactose intolerance, and overall the crew ignoring Elaris and Clank.
Graphics were amazing, too little down time on the planets though, and I'd love to see more of the in-game planets.

I give this movie a 6/10 because: It absolutely is watchable and rewatchable if you, like me, are biased, which you should be since it's
our childhood heroes' story brought back to life and not a cheesy blockbuster. I had my share of laughs and reminiscing moments in the movie which is
more than enough reasons why you should give it a shot if you at all dig the games.
I would have given it higher, but the story doesn't do well on it's own, and nor does the character introductions, or any real action in the movie.
I can't give it any less, because that would imply that it is barely watchable (i.e. a 5/10).
Oh... and unfortunaely, they never "kick some asteroid"... spoilers.

If you're a fan of the source material, you're going to like this movie a lot. plenty of inside jokes, and references to other games, and the PlayStation brand itself.

But can I recommend this movie to the average film goer? Well... I guess. it's not bad, but not great. I went with my girlfriend, and she enjoyed it. said that it was better than she thought it was going to be.

I personally don't think that it was worth the wait, but i did enjoy the movie. I'm not sure if it will get a sequel, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. I think that the critics are WAY to hard on this movie at the moment, probably because "it's a video game movie" even so, It's the best one I've ever seen. go check it out if you want to have a fun time, but don't expect the next great hit while watching it

Who: David Kaye, The guy who was Rhino for 12 seconds in that Spiderman flick, Roseanne's husband, and James Arnold Taylor as a man with three first names
What: A franchise so close to my heart it pains me to slander it
Where: The first galaxy far, far away we fell in love with before we were old enough to truly appreciate Star Wars
When (Can I watch again): When you have obtained every trophy in the 2016 Ratchet and Clank game except for the one where you have to use the 'Groovitron' on every enemy. Then you go through the entire game again because you have not yet gotten it, and you spend 3 and a half hours using the Groovitron on every enemy and still do not get it so you throw the game away out of sheer frustration...I know a guy...
Why: If you were a true fan of one of the greatest franchises in the Playstation universe, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie. If you were not a fan, I can almost assure you you will hate it

TheyA kid-friendly romp through a familiar videogame world. While this adaption of the popular Playstation series falls short in things like originality or connectable characters, there's something to be said silly humor and flashy visuals. They just might not be enough to entertain older audiences.

As far as it's faithfulness to the series it's based on goes, there's not too much I can say on that front. I'm not very familiar with the games at all. I can say that fans will likely get a kick out of seeing their favorite characters brought to life onscreen and appreciate the little references found throughout.

As far as the plot goes it's your standard save the world setup. Much like just about every modern superhero flick, some bad guy(s) is destroying stuff and our heroes need to stop some device in order to save the day. The writers tried to throw some morals about how you don't need to do big things to be a hero, but they ultimately go un-talked about. Plus it's more than a little contradictory to say that, but show their characters only becoming heroes by, you know, doing big things.

So yeah, when it comes to writing it falls short. Not too mention there's no real way to engage with these characters. No, you come into this one for the jokes. Just keep in mind that the humor is aimed at the kids.

There are some clever lines here and there that will illicit laughs and more often chuckles. The majority of the jokes are only going to click with the younger watchers though. In the end that isn't entirely a bad thing.

Ratchet & Clank is more for the kids and less for the parents. So when it comes to family movie night, this is one animated movie you may want to pass on in favor of something from DreamWorks or Pixar. Let your kids watch this one on their own. As for older fans of the games, I don't really know what to tell you. 6.5/10

As for both the animation and the voice acting; I have seen far better, but have also seen far worse. What really irks me is the plot. In the film, it has a boring climax, unfunny humor, and an entirely cliche premise that makes it like every other family film with the "teary eyed dreamer" stereotype. Almost every element of the original PS2 game's story is the exact, better opposite. It has a great comedy, epic climax, and an over-the-top buddy road trip style narrative. However, I have to this some credit for being far better than other game films in the past like the Super Mario Brothers Movie, even though whatever studio made this definitely brought their "B" game to the project. But if you looking for a great R&C story, and you own a PS2, I would highly recommend the first game instead. Expand
