You don't get much of a sense of this from the game (Which in itself, is written adequately) but the movie is scattered with disjointed scenes, a juvenille sense of humour and progression as is overall a fairly amateur effort. Whoever wrote the films plot is clearly not an expert - not even close. As much as I wanted to love this movie (as I love Ratchet and Clank) it's just not a great effort - all the money was directed towards the visuals and the budgeters are thinking 'It's a remake! What can go wrong?!' Expand

I have to say that the Ratchet and Clank film is bad, and I say that even though I have played and adored the original trilogy of the PS2 games.

The movie didn't capture the essence of the Ratchet and Clank games series, which is about having fun with otherworldly weapons and platforming acrobatics while trying to save the Galaxy from some evil baddies. The film makes almost nothing of the Ratchet/Clank comical interactions.

The filmmakers just tried to make a cashgrab of a movie thanks to the remake of the 1st game which launched on PS4 along with the film, with a low badget and (more importantly) much less effort put into the script. Even if you see it as a kids' comedy it isn't that fun either, with the latest mediocre Ice Age films being more fun than this.

Great CGI graphics, but sadly the movie is really bad. Not trash bad, but still a big disappointment. No wonder why the Sly Cooper movie has disappeared from everywhere and it will likely never be made. Sony did a poor job and hurt their Ratchet and Clank IP.

An 'animated' video game movie. You would think that issues with adaption would be far less of a problem. You would be wrong. This movie is terrible. And it had no right to be.

For starters, this is meant to be an adaption of how Ratchet and Clank meet and their adventures in the first game. The story of the first game is quirky and full of colorful characters but a bit unconventional. Despite this, Ratchet's motivations are clear and strong enough to carry the story. He's just a furry Luke Skywalker. He's also a bit of a jerk. This awful movie decided it'd be better if Ratchet's motivation are "I WANNA BE A SPACE RANGER!" With so much childish zeal he would make Ash Ketchum flinch. Also, to make Ratchet more marketable to all the little babies, they change him from a rude, greedy, space redneck into a cute and loveable teddy bear with wide sparkling naive eyes.

Clank is...well he is Clank. The problem is this movie just ignores him almost completely. He's stuck in an office for almost 2/3rds of the movie and its kind of insulting when he makes up half of the title. Hardly any banter between him and Ratchet. So now there is no need for a character arc. Ratchet is already a care bear sooo...we have Qwark? This is like Qwark fanfiction than a proper RnC movie.

The supporting cast is pointless. They are generic. I only kinda cared about them because...they were the good guys. But I forgot all of their names as soon as I heard them, and even now as I write this review, I can't be bothered to check. Out of all of them, the nerd alien woman was probably the most useful. Still don't remember her name.

I hated the soundtrack, its as generic as humanly possible. Games have much better music that fits the world these characters live in. What on earth happened? Most of the jokes fell flat, I got a few dry chuckles but for the most part all I could do was cringe at the cliches. This movie is so cliche I thought I had gained clairvoyance. I was able to predict things before they even happened. Why even bother with celebrity voice actors in a movie like this? Nobody who went to see it did for Sylvester Stallone or John Goodman or anyone else. We wanted to see these awesome characters we grew up with do awesome **** on the big screen! I mean seriously was "be in a kid movie" on Stallone's bucket list or something?? And honestly, the way the RnC reboot tries to smash cut this movie into the actual game plot is bizarre, and kind of insulting. I had no idea people still did the ancient practice of sticking movie clips for their movie tie n games to get out of making proper cutscenes. It's insulting here because the first game had cut scenes. Better cutscenes. And the plot of the movie is I'd say 90 percent different than the original game's plot. So it doesn't make any sense, and ruins the whole bouquet. The only positive I can dredge from this terrible waste of opportunity is, well, Ratchet is adorable. I don't like how they castrated his personality, but damn, the animators made him cute as a button. I think it would have been great had he retained his game personality. You know how everybody loves that Rocket Raccoon guy? Well this movie could have had that same boon. A cute and cuddly critter with a mean attitude. Kids love that kind of crap. The lack of self awareness from this movie studio (and Insomniac) is staggering. They basically erased what made Ratchet and Clank so memorable and loved in the first place!

Animation: exceptional.
Story: Not great, but not terrible either.
Humor: Desperate. Atrocious. Unfunny.

It's "humor" is what dooms the film. Avoid at all costs.

I ask one question, why watch this over playing the game? This shows a lot of how a game 1 for 1 doesn't translate well even more so when a lot of it works better in a video game format. It adds a few new things but it's not worth it overall.

This is the failing of Ratchet & Clank, it relies on preexisting bias to create the enjoyment you would get from the film, instead of trying to be entertaining itself. The more positive viewer reviews for this movie clearly display that. This movie did not try to be anything different then the game, which wears thin to those who do not get off to a nostalgia factor. Although this is a kids movie, lack of effort to be original and stand alone when adapting a medium to a film is lazy writing.

The animation was decent, but the characters were poorly developed and lacked any form of complicated personality.

Cons
-Weak writing
-Poorly developed characters
-Bad pacing
-Predictable humor that could only be funny to children
Pros
-decent animation and art direction

Get prepared for disappointment! Other than major fanboys or little kids that'll enjoy the pretty colors this film is not going to be an enjoyable outing! It's boring, lacks a story, and doesn't do a whole lot for character building. Personally I'm only giving this one a 3 because Ratchet is cute!

If you want to see a great animation, go watch Zootopia!

He sounded and acted like every other generic hero I've seen. All these new characters had no character or interesting traits in the least and had no meaningful interactions. Nearly every joke fell flat. I did't laugh once. The pacing was some of the worst I've seen. It played out like a giant cutscene which is actually the funniest thing about the movie. It is boring and fails on every level except animation both in the r and c series and as a stand alone movie. So whoever wrote this movie did an absolutely horrible job. If I could describe this movie in one word it would be generic. I'm a fan of the series and am massively disappointing. Also to everyone saying this movie is for kids the first game came out in 2002 so fans of the series are at least late teenagers and more importantly it being a kids movie isn't an excuse for it being bad. There are plenty of good kids movies. Expand

Before you flame my opinion, first of all I used to remember putting "I hope the movie can be as great as the video game" in the game's review, but then I checked on the last day before its release that it's also... comedy. Well, that had to blew everything. Plus, I couldn't respect James Arnold Taylor as an actor other than Ratchet, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other stuff he does best except Johnny Test because of it. Why does almost every animation needs to be a comedy? I mean look at The Incredibles. That isn't comedy, it's an animated film though, and it's one of my favorites. RIP - Was planning to give it an 8, but then critics are giving it negative reviews and then I realized it was a comedy the entire time. I guess that's what happens when you make a great video game adaptation idea to a terrible result. Sorry, fans of the franchise and my favorite two PlayStation buddies, but you're more suitable to your own games than movies. Expand

The worst thing about it is the Fanboys/girls defending this, OK sure many people have their own opinions and I can't deny that. This movie hurt me, as huge fan of the Ratchet and Clank games since the 2nd game: Ratchet and Clank 2 Locked and Loaded. I was excited/hyped with the movie; I certainly hoped this movie would be the first video game movie to be at-least decent. Oh how hype disappoints... Why did we even bother? Just why? The Jokes are very cringe worthy unfunny and predictable. Too many bogus pop culture references! The way they have changed Ratchet's personality is just the worst, made him this stereotypical nerd that wants to be a goody two-shoe Galactic Ranger. What's with this cliché "I want to be this but I can't because I am an underdog." it's stale. The Galactic Rangers is just really boring. Cora Veralux is a bland excuse of a bad-ass character. Most of the characters were uninteresting. This movie could've been so much better but unfortunately it resorted to hiring big actors like Sylvester Stallone which was there just for the huge paycheck! This could've been a down to earth movie about a furry mechanic who becomes a hero of his galaxy while developing a relationship with his robot companion Clank. Instead we got a cringe worthy adventure with a nerdy naive mechanic that instantly become best friends without any character development whatsoever that wants to be a galactic ranger. This movie crammed years of Character arc and effort that the first few games had down to a 90 minute movie and got rid of what made the characters special to begin with. This is just a huge reason why Games should stay as games. Don't give me this excuse of it's made for kids because I have seen movies who were aimed at young audiences yet adults and kids enjoy. Just because It's made for kids doesn't mean it escapes criticism. If this movie didn't have Ratchet and Clank plastered all over it people would be calling out for what it is. An unfunny cliché mediocre kiddies movie. Just play the Games instead. Avoid this movie. (Oh I cannot wait for the negative votes on this review by rabid fanboys that cannot take opinions.) Expand

Boring while I do sort of respect how they didn't strive away from the story of the original game. This doesn't feel like Ratchet or Clank since their friendship in the game is way more fleshed out than it is in the film.
