Most deserved remake, but relying on CGI for everything ruined it.

This movie is only about stunts, the story wise, it's a great disappointment. I have seen the old version, for a 90s movie, the actions were fantastic with an awesome story. In this remake I don't know where's the story, the characters were underdeveloped and it rushed towards the end with plenty of high octane action sequences everywhere. This formula won't work all the time like '300' and 'Fury Road', but it's really good for watching in digital 3D.

The story was kind of sameness, but slightly altered, especially about that 8 ordeal and stunts were obviously freshly designed. The graphic works were weak in some parts, it failed to give a natured effect. Yeah, I think CGI is the issue, the movie relied on it for everything.

The cast performances were fine, but a big star in the lead might have given a different result. It's entertaining, but that was not enough these days, especially for a cop movie we expect details, not just physical tricks. IMO its a one time watch movie, or better try the original.

How wouldn't it be exciting to see Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze acting against good and evil at the same time? Infiltrate a band with eccentric masks and exposure to thousands of dangers?

Now, then, Why do a remake which did not have any impact? Surely it is because we are in the Decade of remakes to revive old films and turn them into masterpieces of genre (Mad Max: Fury Road) as perhaps all this was not the case.

The new version had the opportunity to change this bitter taste that left the first and in order of quality, obviously achievement it. The film had two choices, let yourself go by the absurdity of the original and pass without rhyme or give us a good project with a delicate picture and keep in a new line of action and adventure.

Ericson Core opted to mix all the above mentioned, reducing that bitter taste that left the delivery number one. A risky man Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) full of strong tattoos and a powerful look comes (no reason, or if a reason is to be youtuber) the FBI to dismantle a group of apparent thieves that affect the entity. After his operation, meets the man leader Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez) a Monsieur Hood of the topicality. What new is see in a 3D aesthetic a motocross race, a beautiful caused collapse, a spectacular flight and each of the 8 extreme challenges that truly are presented in a majestic way.

Bracey or Reeves? Australian decided give it a touch more staff to Utah and its similarity to Utah is very unreasonable. Ramirez actually feels the character and dazzles us with his team at their extreme tests. Palmer is inconstant and is not permanent in her performance, ending in a way too cliche.

Point Break's powerful emotions believe achieve fill a small argument with intense and dizzying risky scenes, that are aesthetically eye-popping, a white of snow in the mountains or a vehement sequence in Venezuela (seriously, almost vomiting, for the dangerous and influential images) or with the participation of personalities such as 'Teresa Palmer' or 'Steve Aoki' himself. Action events are never lost and they gain the continuity necessary to impact the audience easy. These are points of beginning for future projects within the type.

The game Bracey - Ramirez is late and too reckless. Utah occasionally is congruent but is Bodhi who actually with his dystopian attitude and lack of character manages to establish the relationship. "Point Break" enters this time perfectly, with interests and political issues that strike with what will happen soon.
in the film they reminded it again and again "Isn't it beatiful?", more and more insistent. It is magnificent and is entertaining but directly not precise and briefly makes us imagine that we are back in the thiller in 1991.

This remake has expanded to all manner of extreme sports and it’s the only reason for the film. Luke Bracey plays a new FBI agent who infiltrates the athletes to discover why they commit splashy crimes. The structure is simple: daring feats (wingsuit flying, big wave surfing, extreme snowboarding) alternate with tedious encounters laced with ludricous dialogue. Even with all the spectacular locales and dizzying stunts, the action is seldom thrilling. Pair that with the deadly drama and the film is honed a dull point. Expand

Both were hot properties at the time and they have great 'bromance' chemistry onscreen. It was also directed by Kathryn Bigelow...who was at the time a great action movie director. This needless remake is the polar opposite of the original. It ups the ante in term of extreme sports, but it has no spark...no chemistry between the leads. Both main casts are wooden as hell...the action scenes strive to be great but ends up lifeless. If you're stuck in a 20 hours flight and you have nothing to watch, then you might give this a go. Otherwise, stick to the original. Expand

However, the original is a favorite movie of mine, so I had to watch it. If you REALLY, REALLY liked the original, you ....still might not like this, as the story is one of the worst written films of the year, maybe longer. Really bland dialogue and the film is directed by a guy who was a DP so the focus is all on the action and the story could have been done by like a mannequin. The acting except 1 or 2 characters is pretty stuff and nothing good, and like I said the writing was so bad that almost any actor could have given a stuff performance in this and it wouldn't matter. I could not even pay attention to the film the story was so bad, it felt so disjointed, like there was no life to it. The only redeeming value this film has is the BRIEF moments where it feels like the original and they are BRIEF. Maybe 5 scenes worth a total of 4 minutes actually felt like point break , and the rest was just bad acting and a bunch of stuns. Should have just been a 25 minute youtube video of stunts, because the rest is mostly a waste of time. Only watch this if you like bad movies, or the original ALOT, and be ready to fast forward through much of the dialogue because you could fast foward and guess what they might be talking about..and you would be 100% right because thats how bad and cliche the writing is. Only worth watching was Edgar Ramirez. Fast forward through everything else. Expand

This remake of Point Break offers a visual treat in terms of action and stuntwork, but in all other areas including plot and humour, it loses its line and stumbles.

To its advantage was an intriguing update of the original W. Peter Iliff screenplay to incorporate a) more extreme sports; and b) more aspects indicative of the present generation, great cinematography and both Delroy Lindo and Ray Winstone--who are both 'cash money' in terms of great supporting actors.

Disadvantages include awful soundtrack choices, a highly-unbelievable and lazily-written, underdeveloped script, the actors selected aren't nearly in the class of Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey and Lori Petty...and the director's no Kathryn Bigelow.

Good for a watch, out of curiosity, especially if you liked the original and are a fan of extreme sports. Otherwise, it's probably not worth your time.

This remake is filled with cockamamie dialogue and lousy performances, but director/cinematographer Ericson Core (Fast & The Furious) does a stunning job making the film look breathe taking. The script by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall remake and Salt) is silly, you can't take seriously and is laughable. Luke Bracey ("The Best Of Me") takes the role of Johnny Utah, SPOILER ALERT!: his friend Jeff (Max Theriot) dies after performing a stunt at a steep ridge peak line. Seven years later, Utah joins the FBI, doesn't want to be a extreme sports athlete anymore. So he infiltrates with a team of extreme sports athletes led by the leader Bhodi (Edgar Ramirez Deliver Us From Evil). These athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes. Utah is in deep undercover, his life is in danger, he starts to prove they are architects with a string of crimes. Core is great when it comes to filming big wave surfing, wing suit flying, sheer face snow boarding, free break rock climbing, high speed motorcycle scenes but with storytelling is the weakest and laziest element. Bracey is just awful and totally miss-cast, even if you cast some other actor it'll still be awful, but if you seen his work in Nicholas Sparks' "The Best Of Me" you'll know what I'm talking about. Ramirez is good as the villain role and has charisma and despite what he has to deal with. These actors are trying but the direction is terrible and the script is mediocre and doesn't give the actors any purpose. This film isn't campy enough, it takes itself way too seriously. The film is so boring more boring than Dracula Untold. I tried staying awake when I watch this film, how could a thriller be so boring? You don't care about the characters at all, the quality is okay. Good news is you will forget it expect die hard fans of the original film. You could tell in the stunt scenes that none of these actors are performing them. Grade C Expand

It wasn't very good, but it wasn't very bad either. The story has good moments that I enjoyed, but then it tryed too hard to be about the sports at all times. You probably could skil this.

There were no “right” answers given in the first film. The viewer had to choose for themselves and it was a tough choice by the end of the film.

This Point Break not only has nothing to do with surfing, which its namesake is built upon, but the villains and protagonist of this new movie have the ideals of a typical American Leftist, and the only difference is that the protagonist is against mass murder in achieving the same ideals.
The characters aren’t believable in their “extreme sports” skills, and the shootout scenes and CGI (in some parts) are worse than usual.

If you are looking for something to hold your attention . . . I’d skip this version of Point Break entirely, put on the original instead and save this new version for a background, end-of-the party movie while everyone smokes some weed to wind the night down.

Basically the main reason to watch this is if you want to see x-games style action - snowboarding, windsurfing and all that, but the actual thriller part or action movie part is left in the second plan. Also the acting is a bit bad at some points and some choices the main character makes are just dumb. The x-games stuff and how it is shot is quite cool though. Expand
