I've never seen the original movie, so I have no bias towards it. Based on the movie's own merit's, the Point Break remake is laughably awful. In Point Break, a rookie FBI agent tracks down a group of extreme athletes who go around the world carrying out crimes in unusual and life-threatening ways; they plan to do a series of near-impossible stunts called the Ozaki 8 in hopes of reaching spiritual enlightenment. At least, that was the plot for about ten minutes before the movie devolves into a series of party scenes and surprisingly dull extreme sports clips that could have been easily viewed on YouTube, all set to irritating club music. It takes a special director to make BASE jumping and cliff diving this boring. Ericson Core builds as little suspense as possible in his action set pieces and instead films admittedly well-shot highlights reels for the action scenes. Any sort of suspense conjured up is because of the great cinematography because the characters are so flat and annoying that you almost wish they would get killed off. Everyone in this movie acts stoned out of their mind. All they do is spit faux-philosophical nonsense which gets tiring after the first twenty minutes. It gets laughable towards the end of the movie with lines like "Ideas are strong. But not as strong as a whaling ship," and no amount of context will make that line any less ridiculous. The unbearable dialog, muddled plot and dull characters makes this Point Break remake utterly pointless. If you're not a fan of remakes, this will make you reach your breaking point. Expand

Just go to youtube and watch proffessional extreme sports videos. They don't have the "story" nor the "actors". You will have more fun. At the end of the day this movie is just a dumb compilation of extreme sports videos.

You can basically break Point Break down into two parts. One part is the action scenes. The other is the non-action scenes. Sure, there is a lot of action in some of the scenes, but the scenes with no action make you wish you were out of the theatre.

This movie just went stunt to stunt and all of it was on the trailer. It looked like they didn't hire actors but instead just stuntmen. i believe that if this wasn't called point break it would have been better.

This movie had an awesome trailer but it did not deliver on the big screen. The plot was just awful and very cheesy. Only reason to watch this movie is to see some of the stunts.

An overall disgrace to the original which made Point Break (the original) one of the best Point Breaks everyone can see. Stay out of this movie unless you're going to give it a positive review.

I could eat a packet of alphabet soup and **** out a better script then this one.
Oh yeah and great respectful honoring of Patrick's legacy.
Way to not screw that up. Tard.

I will not appreciate this good movie for some details, but just that detail and cut parts of the trailer, this movie is destroyed almost completely. Expand

Point Break is a movie that takes the worst aspects of a Warren Miller flick and offers a plot with all the depth of a pornographic movie. It is a pale shadow of the original, and a remake that never needed to be made.

The bad:
- The plot is TERRIBLE and completly non-sense. In fact it's obviously just an excuse to have random scenes of action compiled together.
- The acting is pretty bad and not convincing.
- The movie is completly random.

Conclusion:
After half an hour of the movie I was already bored. Just tune in any sports channel and you'll have the same content but in a context that makes more sense. Wish I've had back my U$ 4,00 and the 2 hours I've lost with this movie.

Point Break is entertaining and uses the best things it can offer, especially their stunts which is significantly the best of the film, but what is the point in seeing a regular remake of a movie that is already quite good?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my opinion the film's philosophy of being one with nature is more ambitious and complex than the original and it has a lot of potential but the director failed to do it justice. It just feels like he didn't had what it takes to maturely develop each part of it.

Still the major issue is how weak the connection that the characters have with each other and with the audience is. I mean, they could all die and I wouldn't feel anything about it because I didn't feel anything for those that did die. I wasn't sure if I was suppose to laugh at the first death, later on Bodhi talks to Utah about how tragic his friend/brother's death was... wait? How was it tragic? One second he was falling of a cliff and the next a giant tittle pops on the screen.
The director seems to have no clue how to work through death moments, every time there is nothing to it, nothing to see, nothing to feel or think.... it's like one frame they are alive, the next they are dead and the next the movie has already moved on like nothing happened. There is talk about connection throughout the movie, the Director delivers none.

The relationship between the characters is also very hollow and unclear. The scene where the group is sitting at the table about to eat for instance, are they friends? Family? Is Samsara suppose to be Bodhi's sister or girlfriend? There is simply an enormous lack of content about the group. And there is no passion or any feeling coming in moments one would think to be emotional.
