Terrible movie, it's an insult to the animated movie, it's a classic that you can't touch, the same with everything that this disgusting company has done, if disney wants money it should stop making garbage and start creating interesting, new stories and leave the politics aside, stop selling disney smoke, leave the CGI, leave politics and start creating, listen to the people you owe yourself to, for those who were once the best for children, now they are just a cancer that must be eradicated. The Uncanny Valley effect whipping through the roof, unnecessary filler and replacement of iconic situations, flanderized characters and dark situations made more "light", two new characters horribly generic and without any charm, old characters without charm, the fairy inexplicably changed and references to the popular culture at a time when it would make no sense.
The original is a masterpiece, one of the best animated movies of all time and like many others it didn't need a remake, at most a well done 2d remake taking advantage of current animation and widescreen format and that's it.
It amuses me that some defend it saying "but it has some situations that explain things that the original doesn't" and that kind of garbage. I remind you that the original came out in 1940. If they couldn't do something better it would be absurd. But everything should be better! The new generations ruin all these animated movies and I'm sick of it. It also happens with many video game remakes unfortunately. But hey, if people continue to allow it, let them take it.
Walt Disney would be very disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a MASSIVE SPOILER, but they did not have the money to hire a child actor to look like Pinocchio or they rushed production, but Pinocchio does not, I repeat... does not turn into a real boy!

This is a crime, this is a fable, and fables cannot be altered un such way that they are destroyed, Disney had one job, and it was to grant Pinocchio's wish to become a real boy. Instead of a half-assed explanation of "he was always real."

Disney still uses the original movie's signature song as part of its brand image. The 1940 film defined the Disney spirit. Apparently, though, this doesn't rescue it from being another tired, exploitative tentpole for modern Disney.

The movie is at its best when it makes some small tweak or addition to the original film. It's okay when we get to watch an enthusiastic performance or a pretty CGI spectacle. It's lame when it tries to be modern, like one of many forced cameos, terrible popculture references, or baffling new elements that go completely unexplained.

It falls apart when you realize Pinocchio has gone from a precocious but easily distracted little kid, to a bland chatterbox that mostly states what is happening, repeats back what other characters have said to him as a question, and then says what he ought to have done instead of what he actually does. He usually gets into trouble by random chance, rather than any action he takes. He's gone from a flawed bit lovable hero, to a bland reciter of exposition.

Overall: the performances range from fun to irritating, it's quite pretty when it's not distractingly fake, the titular character is now a boring twit that lets the plot happen to him, and overall, it feels like a movie that has no idea why its 82-year-old progenitor was such a classic.

A visual delight, thank you, Disney!

I haven't read the original story, but I can tell that the visual effects, cast, voices were an A+ and more than 100% accurate. Very well done! Finally a good reboot! You have my full support in making more like this one! The story wasn't above the curve as many would have been expected, but it's a fantasy and a family movie! It made me a tearjerker, I admit, because it sent me there, in that period of time, where Mr. Walt created these beauties and amazed us with the drawings and magic. I never knew the lyrics from the Disney movies intro song. Thank you for that. It really touched me! A strong candidate to the visual and song department to the Oscar's, original song too, not to mention animated movie! Good luck taking on Lightyear! Can't wait for the next projects like this! Peace and Love!

One thing that’s true about this? Tom Hanks is hilariously unhinged. I couldn’t imagine spending money to go see this fever dream, but that’s what Disney+ and the fast forward button are for.

But who submits “reviews” and real scores indicative of a movie/show/cereal’s quality anymore? That’s not what people do! They come crawling to MetaCritic and social media to cry their triggered eyes out because a black woman came onto their screens for a few moments. There is nothing on this Earth more whiny and cringy than triggered white trash. I mean, holy crap, the amount of bawling and tantrums over a 90 second scene with a magical blue fairy, these cretins should be ashamed. But, alas, they have no souls. This movie sucks, but this society and life on this planet in 2022 sucks more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m just as irked by Disney’s tendency to churn out soulless live-action remakes as anyone else, but this wasn’t bad. Tom Hanks did great in his role as Geppetto and the voice acting by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket) and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio) was also absolutely on point. Very faithful performances to the original, and it was refreshing to see actors like Tom Hanks and Joseph Gordon-Levitt take on more light-hearted roles. I also want to give a special mention to Lewin Lloyd’s performance as Lampwick; I haven’t seen them act in anything else, but as far as child actors go, I think they have a bright future ahead of them. I was very impressed by how naturally they delivered all of their lines. Reminded me a bit of Will Poulter, actually.

As for the movie itself, well, it is a kids’ movie... and when I watch movies meant for children, I try to view it through the lens of one. And the question that always sits at the forefront of my thought process is “would I enjoy this movie if I was a kid?”, and with Pinocchio, I can confidently say that I would. The movie is, simply put, a fun watch. It looks visually interesting, the acting and writing is on point, and it doesn’t drag at any point. Some might even argue that it moves a bit too quickly, but if I were a kid, I don’t think I would see that as a negative.

I think my only criticism would go to the side plot with Sabina. I don’t actually remember if this was in the original movie, but I felt like it didn’t add that much. It could have, but they didn’t focus on it enough to make it necessary to the overall plot in my opinion.

For a solid kids’ movie, I’ll give this one a 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ¿Qué tal la película? Bien, para pasar el rato.
¿Efectos?

Unfortunately for this release, it faces the same problem that all of Disney's live-action adaptations have faced, and that problem is going up against superior versions, because so far most of them have failed to capture the magic of the animated films, and Pinocchio fails miserably in that regard as well.
I even think Tom Hanks was a poor casting choice to play Geppetto. Admittedly, I'm putting unfair weight on this film, but there being a better version of the same project, I must say that, while the 1940 Disney film may seem dated to new viewers, it's far more effective than this weak remake. This movie means condoning creative laziness, and its release on Disney+ is proof enough of that. And it's also very sad to see how Robert Zemeckis is closing his career.

Every time I think the Disney Live Action remakes can’t get any worse, they pump out something even worse then their previous attempt setting the already INCREDIBLY low bar even lower. I despiseEvery time I think the Disney Live Action remakes can’t get any worse, they pump out something even worse then their previous attempt setting the already INCREDIBLY low bar even lower. That’s what’s happened here with Pinocchio. I despise this movie with every fiber of my being because it feels unfinished and this time I don’t feel like I’m speaking in hyperboles. I genuinely think the movie just isn’t finished. The visual effects look like they were created not even 2 months ago and sometimes look like a parody of the Spy Kids movies minus the charm. Every scene feels like the first take and that they didn’t review the footage until they were in the editing room. I’m almost 100% positive that the script is a first draft as well in the sense that they tried to copy and paste some elements from the original film while also dragging the scene’s out with pointless dialogue and some incredibly unfunny jokes. All of the performances here are very underwhelming. Tom Hanks clearly only agreed to be in this because he’s friends with the Director and it shows in his performance. There’s no life in his performance and that’s the same for pretty much everyone else besides Joseph Gordon-Levitt who at least feels like he’s trying to do something. There isn’t anything in this film story wise that isn’t done better or more swiftly done than in the original. There’s an extra 20 minutes added to this film and I really struggle to understand why it was needed. Why was this film even made in the first place? Answer, I don’t know to be honest. I think originally it was money but they didn’t release it in theaters so. This is an absolute waste of time and I would highly recommend not watching this and staying as far away from this product as possible. Expand

Tom Hanks wearing makeup like Manfredi and Battiston in the role of Mangiafuoco (oops: "Stromboli") are the only almost two concessions to the Comencini of '72. For the rest, it is difficult to recognize that it is Collodi's novel: a real reboot, blackwashed and set in Wakanda. It wouldn't be a problem if the conspicuous changes made added pathos instead of deleting it.

I watched this when it came to Disney+ a While ago, actually forgot to do a rating for it, luckily I'm full steam with reviews now.

Anyway compared to recent Disney content I am surprisingly less angry about this one, but that doesn't mean Disney is exempt from pushing out a chopped up and dumbed-down version of Pinocchio.

Let's begin, this film is dumped down, stripped apart and a lesser version of the original. The CGI is uncanny, the scenes have been swapped mixed and altered into this unrecognizable story.

The characters in this film were purposely swapped or taken out and do not match the time period in which they are in, there are scenes in this film that do not matter or push forward the plot.

And as mentioned before the flow of the scenes has been stripped apart. eg. remember when Pinocchio is going to school, yeah he was never supposed to make it in the first place, he was meant to be constantly influenced about becoming famous and making his father proud, by Honest John and his companion. Here it's completely unfocused, he makes it but is kicked out because the plot demanded it so.

But why am I rating it higher than usual, it's because it tried to do something different, that's not bad, besides the race swapping of course, but it tried.

Overall it's still not a good satisfying watch, it's half as good as the original, so it's a 4/10. It's watchable, not enjoyable, not complete, not source accurate, just plain watchable.

Atrocious. There's no soul here and the movie genuinely feels unfinished. Zemeckis hasn't made a good movie since The Polar Express.

I'm assuming they were going to make it a trans character, but nothing came of it. Could it be that they thought audiences were too stupid to know that female gulls are brown & white spotted? Expand

This is the 3rd worst live Action Remake that disney has made and forgot what made 1940's pinocchio so appealing in the first place.
