I'll give it a 5/10. The animations are too poor for my taste, sadly. I know the graphic novel. I like the personal struggles, stories, etc. I like to support LGBTQ in general.

My only issue is that Nimona is a novel we joked about at university, in a philosophy class, where the professor deconstructed modern gender fluid theories for being historicism and constructivism. A constructivist ideology that has its believers but is a joke among academic philosophers and sociologists, and is damaging LGBTQ in the public eye, as we've seen in the past years. Therefore, I wish we would talk about this misleading trend that is attracting parts of the LGBTQ movement, in the same way past constructivists were sometimes debunked by creators and journalists, right? Think of the 1960s and 1970s. But I guess that it is too trendy for now among a certain group of people, and most of us have no theoretical tools to even contemplate it. And Netflix certainly is not the place of theoretical debate.

All right I got around to finishing this movie, what do I think? I'll just lay it out to you straight.

The animations' visuals, animations and effects are poor throughout the film. While Nimona is an Interesting character who is oozing out personality, her supporting cast is not well portrayed, literally none of them is good to relate to, unless you like a generic villain plotline, or you are gay. Before you say anything I don't have a problem with the LGB community in fact there are characters from animations that I like more with varying Diversity, but the way that this animation does it is not earned at all. It is forced in the most little way possible that the supporting character himself does not have any redeemable or favourable qualities a person can relate to.

The action scenes are ruined and flooded with music. It was hard to understand what they were saying so I was forced to turn on Subtitles. The action is slow and unsatisfying except for two scenes. The first with a vehicle, a Knight and a food stand, the other scene is the kidnapping scene, which I absolutely love.

The character's motivations besides Nimona are not good at all, things just happen because they did, and the reason behind it all is not well delivered.
Nimonas' motivation and personality are good, I like her character but everything else in the film just weighs it down. If it's not the generic and predictable plot, it's the animation, if it's not that, it's the characters and their annoying modern dialogue, that does not fit at all. None of it is natural besides for personal moments between Ballister and Nimona, this though is right at the end.

The Pacing of the film is all over the place, First, it's rushing, then it's suddenly, taking its time, and then rushing again, stopping, Dancing?! For some reason, I don't know. It hurts the film with the time that was given.

Ok, Ratings:

Visuals: 4/10, I've seen better from other indi-studios, even games from the PS2 era look better than this.

Characters: 6/10, Nimona is Great, and everyone else, just sucks.

Story: 5/10, Generic and Predictable, I literally watched the movie starting from the beginning instead of where I left off from the 20 min mark and knew who the bad guy was and what the plot, in the end, would be. No risk no Reward.

Plot and Pacing: 4/10, It doesn't make use of Dramatic pauses in the plot, the action is breakneck speed but unsatisfying, I don't know what this film was trying to do.

Nimona, you are a cool character but everything else is just weighing you down. This film is a 5/10. It will work for some people, but for most that want to enjoy a well-made animation, this is not it. There is some emotion because I felt a connection to Nimona but when the film reminds you "Hey there's a story remember", I just get uninterested.

Now before you downvote this review, Understand this, I give Animations a fair and easy review, I do not care about agendas, and I do not care about characters having their own sexual preferences. This animation is not up to the quality standards I've seen, and I've watched a lot of animation in my 20+ years of watching Animations. This film to me is mixed which means that there will be a mixed proportion that has different expectations of this film. I would expect there will be people out there who think this is a masterpiece, yeah they are lying, and It's sad they convinced themselves of that and their expectations are so low for 2023.

To the people that made this animation, Do Better. This could have been so much more.
Do I want a Sequel though? If it's just Nimona this time outside the wall exploring different places, that would be nice.

*I will leave my first 20 min impressions of the film down below but for now thanks for reading.

This is not the full review because I lost interest at about 19 minutes.

But so far this is a pretty low-effort, poorly shot and animated animation film. Not only does it look bad the effects are pretty bad, the story and introduction as well as the character motivation so far are poor.

Do you want to know why the main character is special? No not Nimona, the knight that accompanies. I literally facepalmed at this moment. You will find out why within the 10-minute mark.

Another thing I noticed, they copied the aesthetic of Shrek, Fantasy with a mix of modern elements, that's literally Shrek, but here it's done worse.

The action and animations are slow and unsatisfying, they use the most generic ways of conveying a plot and the scenes, in just under 20 minutes. eg. A nonsensical Explosion at the end of an Action Scene does not mean satisfying and amazing.

I will continue this review later After I finish watching it but so far it's not looking good. 4/10.

Has good heart but pretty scattered thematically. The animation is solid for the most part but not extremely detailed.

Despite its commendable intentions, the concepts remain somewhat superficial, failing to evolve into a story that achieves genuine emotional conveyance.

However, it's important to note that Nimona is by no means a poorly crafted film. Far from it, but it often falls short when it comes to exploring the details.
The film's ambitious nature occasionally hinders its progress as it attempts to tackle too much. Nevertheless, it counterbalances some of these issues by crafting characters that resonate with the audience. Additionally, when the story demands to get exciting, then it does effectively.

Although Nimona ultimately lacks a coherent and consistent identity, it adapts to meet its intended objectives and understands the landscape in which it operates.
While it may not create a deep and lasting impact, especially in the streaming arena, Nimona does manage to provide entertainment, albeit within reasonable expectations.
