If you thought... This would be any better than the second Maleficent film...
Maleficent 2 was a far more entertaining film.

disney was said that they tried to make more realistic.
this is more senseless more original or 1998 movie 1. That main lead (mulan) have only one expressions in every scenes (maybe it my own opinion and i don't know you agree or not).

2 . They remove dragon and cricket for good reason

3. They add phoenix lol. phoenix was never belong to china they belong tp arabian story.

4 . Too much magical. in this movie mulan born with chi power. she defended everyone with 0% experience and without training . there is also a witch in movie .

5. She removed her armour and helmet in fort of enemies army and lead own army by flying and slow motion wall running.

Very bad adaptation, the cartoon is 10 times better. Looked like a low budget movie. No fun at all, bad stunts and battles, music is missing, moshu is missing, a lot of wierd battles, dumb scenes and more...it was a waste of time

The animation Mulan was great. But this movie smells like “ Chinese Communist Party”. And story was boring. Very similar to recent SW or something. It's déjà vu and not worth the money.
Anyways $30 is crazy.

Forgettable and unremarkable movie solely produced to appease Chinese audiences. Wouldn’t pass as a made for TV movie in most Western countries.

Filming in areas of China where innocent people are put into concentration camps because of their religion and then even thanking local government authorities in the credits is absolutely disgusting. And don’t even get me started on the lead actress supporting violent police crackdowns...

In short, please avoid spending any money on this movie. One can only hope Disney learns something from this debacle and stops appeasing the Chinese government.… Expand

The movie itself was bad enough, not even close to being worth $30 (you couldn't even pay me to watch this again). I can't even get over the fact that she fought with her long hair down which should be annoying af in battle. Too many dumb plot points crammed in, leaving no time for meaningful exposition. Remember when in the original, they introduce the doll of the girl in the mountain village and Mulan later places it at the grave of the General? None of that. They just find a bunch of discarded armor someone dumped in a smoldering building and tell the audience to be sad about it.

The sound track is terribly dull by comparison to the original, even if you disregard the shameful lack of musical numbers.

And yes, I get it, the fighting scenes reference classic Chinese martial arts movies, so they're not supposed to look realistic. Doesn't change the fact that they are terribly badly done, just to make extra sure the audience gets the reference.

I watched it. Don't repeat my mistake.… Expand

Do you like the original Mulan? If so, you do not want to watch this movie. It will ruin your childhood memories. Do yourself a favor and go watch something else. Terrible actors and terribly boring.

The character build up is missing either because the main actress cannot act or China has forced Disney to cut out absolutely anything that remotely shows a Chinese person to appear weak. It's ok for the protagonist to show fear. Mulan's father says "there is no courage without fear" so where is her fear? Look at this movie's poster because that's her face even when death is in front of her. Even if Mulan was the only movie out this year, she still won't be nominated for best actress.

I continuously see obvious bots or some "I stand by Asians" nonsense posting how great this movie is. Look, this movie is no 10 out of 10 ok. You're saying this is the absolute best movie you have ever seen? It's certainly not a 1, but IT"S DEFINITELY NOT a 10. The 1 is justified because Disney set the price at $30. Say a In-N-Out Burger is good, but at $30, I'd give it a 1/10. That argument about how if you watch it with 3+ people, it's actually cheaper than the theaters. #1, don't lie, you're watching it by yourself #2. it's covid time, not many of us are having gatherings. #3, it's not the theaters.

Please support great movies. Don't give your hard earned money to Disney just because they are using someone with a certain skin color.… Expand

One of the worst movies I’ve seen this year. The only parts worth watching were the action scenes but the story itself is poorly scripted and seems to have changed their antagonist from looking like Mongolians to Muslim. Added unnecessary black magic, unnecessary stunts and tricks like running vertivally up a 50 foot wall, didn't stay true to the storyline. There's a phoenix and no Mushu or Cricky Mulan already knows how to fight and do parkour since a child, they added a sister to the movie for no reason what so ever. The removal of the key aspects that made the original great made this movie so much worse. Mulans cricket (lucky) and dragon (mushu) are no where to be found. She was given a sister in place of her pet dog (brother). Many of the events that happen don't make any sense, they were trying to force certain events into the movie that were in the original and couldn't figure out how to do it. She exposes her womanhood at the behest of a witch... I mean really. There was no witchcraft in the original, or in Chinese histories rendition of mulan… Expand

There weren't any scenes that kept a kid captivated and intrigued for any amount of time. Albeit it being cheesy, epecially during the most pivotal battle between heroine and villan where a stupid Phoenix' wings are juxtaposed behind Mulan, this movie was just a terrible remake. My advise, NEVER included political or current social events in any Disney movie. People need relief from all the crazy in the world and Disney should be a "happy" place. This was not that. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!! I loved the updated storyline, the all Asian cast, the kinship amongst the female antagonist and female protagonist. I watched it with my boys and they enjoyed it as well. Comme nous le savons, la plupart des classiques Disney sont des adaptations d'histoires ou de légendes qui SONT MODIFIÉS POUR LES ENFANTS. Dans le live-action, il a été un peu plus basé sur la LÉGENDE ORIGINALE (qui est vraiment un poème chinois), donc il n'inclut pas l'interprétation des chansons chantées par les acteurs, ni Mushu, ni rien de comédie. L ' erreur de Disney était de l'appeler ′′ LIVE ACTION ′′ parce que bon c'est vraiment une nouvelle adaptation de Mulan. Mais dès le début Disney nous prévient que les chansons et certains personnages ne viendraient pas dans le film...

Je pense qu'il n'est pas juste que l'on parle mal du film juste pour ne pas inclure les chansons et Mushu , (évidemment Mushu et les chansons manquent, mais regardez le bon côté, Disney a maintenant deux versions de Mulan, regardez simplement celle que vous aimez le plus) Il est juste de lui donner une chance et si vous n'aimez pas, bien, il y aura toujours la version animée.

I disliked giving the hero Ki powers. The whole point of the story is a normal girl worked hard, was brave and clever, etc. Instead now she’s a superhero? Weird choice that undermines the character, plot and theme of the whole narrative. The original is far more enjoyable.… Expand

To be fair, if you want to see a Chinese female warrior then this movie is a must see. On the other hand, if Disney princess style is your preference then 1998 cartoon movie is the way to go. The core theme inevitably containing details of fighting, so the movie is PG13 whereas the cartoon is not. To people who “boycott Mulan” for actress YiFei’s take on Hong Kong protest, y’all need to do your research on history of China and Hong Kong first. The movie was good. If I could give half points it would be a 7.5. They said beforehand that there wasn't going to be Mushu or singing, so I wasn't expecting any. She unlocked her powers when she stopped trying to be someone else and living a lie. It was a good coming of age story. I could have been a very good movie if they didn't tone down the fights for the target audience, and added some comedy relief. Really the sins are of three types:
PC stuff, like removing romance with superior officer
China appeasing
general poor writing (stupid villain: "we're the same". "no"

mulan really reflects on many of the prejudices that at that time and even now people have about being a woman in a man's world as the song says

It’s filled with plot holes and has zero character development or even any insight into any characters at all. The editing is awful, the action is boring, the script is comically bad. Watching the movie filled me with rage. This movie only exists to make money, there is no heart or soul in any of the directing, performances, and writing. Paying money to watch this movie is an ethically bad thing to do as you will be justifying more insulting and lifeless remakes in the future. Disney should be ashamed by this movie and by what their company has become. This movie is the worst disaster of 2020. DO NOT WATCH!… Expand

In my opinion this Live Action is one of the best Disney has made. It's different, yet familiar. It's for kids, but also for adults. It has action, it has spectacular visuals, awesome music and a good message.

I particularly don't mind the fact it is different, in my opinion, live-action remakes should be different to thenoriginals. If I want to see the original, I will. I like surprises on the new versions, and new takes on stuff. I loved the original classic Mulan, and I did not expect this one to be a copy of it. I myself thought that Lion King could've been at least a little bit different for example.
I definitely recommend this movie, I believe it is a good family friendly movie with good effects, good music and beautiful visuals.
In the end, however, you'll have to judge for yourself (after watching it, and not like most people in here nowadays, that bash stuff without even playing/watching them....)… Expand

First the good:
The cinematography is beautiful, no doubt.
The soundtrack is good as well, albeit without thinking about the musical aspect of the 1998 animation. The bad: By trying to please everyone, the director has efficiently managed toFirst the good:

The bad:
By trying to please everyone, the director has efficiently managed to create a movie which feels distinctly flat, without any heart or emotional connection to the characters on screen.
The screenwriters misspelled "Mongolians" as well (they didn't, but it's just so damn stupid).

There is no real feeling of impending doom like in the 1998 animation, and the dark scenes to establish the ruthlessness of the Khan, are gone.

With the inclusion of "Chi" they have also effectively removed the fundamental message of the whole tale. Mulan is just the best at everything because reasons, it's weird.

The character display some nonsensical reasoning as well, which I won't spoil, but holy damn, there are some encounters which are just straight up badly written.


In summation:
The movie is questionably written, without any real heart, and feels like the 1998 animation, if the animation had had a lobotomy.… Expand

I am happy I did not pay to watch this. If you really want to watch it get in on piratebay. But I do not recommend it. The movie completely sucks. And politically it is better not to support this in any way.

This is a stupid story that betrays the original text or the animation movie. Mulan is not a born jedi warrior. The movie is longer but somehow it felt rushed on every single character development.
