the movie is a dumb fun movie through and through, but this also ends up being one of its major issues. It feels like its 80% action scenes jumping from one to the next. As much as I enjoy tons of action, some of that could have been cut downthe movie is a dumb fun movie through and through, but this also ends up being one of its major issues. It feels like its 80% action scenes jumping from one to the next. As much as I enjoy tons of action, some of that could have been cut down to help with the story which was very weak and at times completely nonsensical even for MK standards. When it comes to characters, everybody got decent screen time for their fights though some not as much as others but all of the main characters were extremely underpowered in this movie including those that should be far stronger and the bad guys are practically all jobbers with nothing going for them besides having their names given for context even though they should be more important down the line. Speaking of characters, I actually did like our new protagonist Cole. I feel if he is included in an MK game in the future, he might be appreciated more but as it stands I still wish he was not in the movie and instead was another character that people do know. Overall though, I did enjoy watching the movie and would watch again and definitely want to see a sequel that improves on it.… Expand

Yes, a few actors arent the best, yet they are well cast except some exceptions.

But I dont really know what people expected from a cringy IP in the first place? A masterwork of art and acting? Please... Its action. Stupid, unrealistic and brainless action!
For todays standards this is a very good brainless flick, that simply entertains through good action, in the likes that you havent seen since the 90s.
Also it has almost no political crap in it, which gives it quite a few plus points. But it doesnt get along completely without it. Mileena is such a thing. She looks nothing like the original character (not even the same ethnicity) and has a body shape that makes her fit better into a Weight Watchers commercial. She also gets dealt with rather effortless. Other than that its really well made and how those fighters got their powers and other abilities/features is also more or less well explained.
I am excited for a sequel!… Expand

Setting up for a future cinematic universe with a brand new kharacter, Mortal Kombat delivers a fun atmosphere with plenty of gore, humor and action one should expect from the games. Joe Taslim's Subzero is phenomenal.

I loved how they didn't skimp on the violence and gore and how they perfectly mixed it with comedic moments also how they used iconic lines and moves from the games. The writing especially the screenplay was superb. The visual effects were remarkable especially Sub-Zero's powers, Liu's powers, Scorpion's Kunai, Milenna's powers, Jax's arms, Syzoth (Reptile), Raiden's powers, Cole's powers, Nitara's wings, Kung's hat, Goro, Sonya's powers, and Kano's powers. The acting was stupendous especially from Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Sisi Stringer, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Ludi Lin, Hiroyuki Sanada, Joe Taslim, Tadanobu Asano, and Damon Herriman. The makeup and hairstyling was phenomenal especially on Sisi Stringer, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Mel Jarnson, Max Huang, Jessica McNamee, and Lewis Tan. The costumes were outstanding especially ones wore by Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Max Huang, Sisi Stringer, Joe Taslim, Chin Han, Ludi Lin, Lewis Tan, Daniel Nelson, Mel Jarnson, and Josh Lawson. MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!! I was 15 when the original one came out in 1995 loved and couldnt wait for the story to continue.....was 17 when the sequel came in 1997 and was bummed out BIG TIME, I thought the franchise in the movie business was deadMORTAL KOMBAT!!!!! I will say this. I enjoyed it. But that being said, the movie is extremely shallow in the middle (aka the guts of the film) I think it is a big case of the director trying to do too much in too little of time and it hops around so much thatI will say this. I enjoyed it. Also, the baddies are clearly what makes this movie good, and they deserve more screen time. Making sub zero so menacing is literally what made this movie any good. And joe taslim deserves a damn subzero mythologies like movie. Also I think they could have went with more horror like themes to make the villains even more terrifying. Kabal looked amazing until he spoke. I think there needed to be another 40 minutes to make you give a damn and develop these characters more if you are gonna try and tell this many stories in one film. That’s where the original movie shines because it was clearly More focused on the main 3 characters. But is worth mentioning that the soundtrack is great with the swooping synth keyboards along with the pounding drums. I also approved of almost all of the cast in their roles, I think I just wanted more depth from the dialogue. Bottom line this is not a great movie, but that’s not to say it isn’t any fun. It’s actually very fun and has a ton of potential for strong follow up sequels.focused.… Expand

I think they did a great job of staying true to the feel of the games with the short, regular fight sequences and including some of the characters signature moves. I think they've done a really good job of the casting too. If you aren't a fan of the games I could understand that you may be critical of the movie as it really plays to an audience who is already familiar with the MK franchise. Perfect Mk Movie,Its a treat, speechless towards the end it was just goosebumps,The story was amazing focused on characters rather than full origin and tournament,The characters were iconic and amazing new addition as cole, The music was superb it was tense at times and the Cgi was great, The blood and gore was pleasingly awesome and the action scenes each of them were "Purely insane and Art" The starting scorpion fight as samurai the killings was just pure mayhem love it and his family killing was just bone chillingly dark, The sub-zero entries throughout the movie with "its getting cold in here" was awesome,The scorpion death was surprising and then the present day the cole family intro they were sweet and then the sub zero's quest to kill champions the cole's attack the restaurant scene the slow snow fall and sub-zero controlling snow with hands it was just eye catchingly beautiful, Then the jax's entry and his hands tear scene it was awesome, Then the sonya's and kano's entry the whole origin spalshed in minutes and then the lizard fight it was amazing, Then the jouney to temple of raiden. the lui's intro and the whole team meet and the power's unlocking quest the kano's absurd humor here and there with the jax reunite and then the shang's team cheating the tournament and finding earth champions the raiden's rescue and then the whole Cole's scorpion's relation and then the goro's fight at house it was intensely awesome, Then the kano's selling out the team and then the team to team fight and in that kung's fight with flying girl the hat tearing fatality the whole body cutting was just bloody epic then afterwards his soul ripping by shang that scene was amazing, The final act was just nuts, The teams one on one fight, The kano and sonya's fight the kano's eye squash with statue by sonya was awesome and The jax fight with head ripping enemy scene and the lui's dragon flame kill and the melina's kill by sonya after getting symbol from kano and activating power was amazing, Then the final fight with sub-zero the Cole's family kidnap and the Iconic entry of the scorpion to save cole it was just a goosebumbps moment, The further awesome fight with blood and snow it was just iconicly brilliant,the cole and scorpion together fighting sub-zero and subzero using snow tricks specailly the freezing blood in air to use as sword it was just insanely awesome and the killing of sub-zero by the two it was satisfying although sub-zero was just baddass, The ending with family together and the shang's sent back by raiden and the ending tease of johnny cage at hollywood it was just nuts it was peak MK satisfaction end,Overall it was just iconic, entertaining and a awesome experience, A masterpiece of game adaptation and Its a great movie!… Expand

What an entertaining movie. As an MK fan growing up and playing the various iterations they finally did justice to the franchise. Где мое легендарное интро, от которго я в детстве не в силах оторваться от экрана телевизора? Где легендарная музыка в файтинг сценах? Где блин крутая музыка??? Я велосипед в детстве продал ради касеты Мортал Комбат, чтобы постоянно пересматривать этот фильм и повторять приемы возле зеркала под наикрутейшую музыку из фильма. Overall I had doubts going into it, but it was a lot of fun for what it was, it definitely looked and felt like a Mortal Kombat movie, but my biggest problem with this movie is that it felt like a fan-film. But a super high budget fan-film.Overall I had doubts going into it, but it was a lot of fun for what it was, it definitely looked and felt like a Mortal Kombat movie, but my biggest problem with this movie is that it felt like a fan-film. But a super high budget fan-film. The second problem I have with this movie is that some characters don't get enough time to establish themselves.
But that's not to say that I didn't enjoy all of it, the production values are really up there, the cinematography looks beautiful, the script is fine, the story lays the foundation in a solid way, the performances are iconic enough to where I can see these characters come to life, and the fight scenes. Needless to say they are AMAZING. The blood and gore was awesome to look at.
In the end, I enjoyed this movie for what it was, and I hope the sequels build on what worked while removing what didn't… Expand

Its a martial flick based off a video game....a very entertaining one at that. Surprisingly lots of humor (specifically from Kano). Manage your expectations and enjoy it for what it is. Decent martial arts/action sequences, funny, blood and gore - all checkmarks. CGI so-so, story so-so. Entertaining overall without expecting every actor to be Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour - check! This movie was to set the stage for a huge franchise. The actors were all signed for FOUR follow-up films at minimum if this was a success.

After 25 years of waiting, can't you all see that five films would provide more than enough time to tell all stories and more?

I've watched this movie six times and I'm currently about 20 min into my seventh. Yes, I enjoy the hell out of this movie.

I think people have become institutionalized by the Marvel Universe. Meaning, the Avengers movies felt so much heavier because all the characters were so developed.

News flash! Many of the characters had their own movie or several!!!

How the hell can you make an entire movie about any MK character without all the others???

Answer that and I'll agree to hear the ****

This movie is great. Mark my words, in time, we will all come to appreciate what has been done here.

I only hope that all the **** reviews haven't ruined our chances at future films.

If you haven't seen this, WATCH IT.

Anytime action was going on, I was having a blast, but past the first 7 minutes of the film, the story just sort of loses any bit of weight. I couldn’t have cared any less for the main protagonist, who is a new character created just for the movie. The film works best when focusing on characters that we know. Some characters fall more short than others, but again I kind of expected that. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are by far the characters the film-makers took the most time and care with, with Kano and Raiden falling next in line. The rest of cast fall into various levels of suck - but again I had a blast watching it. I have to be honest, though

I personally will be buying the film first chance I get on Blu-ray. So that should tell you something. But I also totally get why this movie is a pure failure for a lot. For me, it’s just so much fun, and I hope they continue to expand this world with more films.… Expand
