I wanted to like this movie so much. Even when it becomes absurd, with the poorly implemented twist, you root for it. But ultimately this is a missed opportunity to make a really thought provoking classic. All the parts were there.

Moonfall is so derivative of his own works that it ends up being a boring film. You can't really go wrong with the casts, but by taking a serious tone, Moonfall fell flat on its face. Set pieces come and go with no fanfare. Plots and sequences are ripped off even from his previous works. The fact is that the blockbuster of the 90s that Emmerich was responsible for to some extent is out dated. Expand

It's up to 2 astronauts (Halle Berry & Patrick Wilson) to come to the rescue in space, along with a nerdy scientist (John Bradley who's supposed to provide the comic moments). All this time, their families on Earth are trying to outrun the disastrous calamaties that ensue. This sounds illogical, but given that director Roland Emmerich is a master of these sci-fi disasters, it's worth accepting the premise. Then, the situations begin to get silly, before it just breaks down to absurdity. By the end, the whole thing is ridiculous to the point of hilarity. The actors are doing their best, but the family connections are surface. The effects are big and impressive, but they can't distract from the ridiculousness of this whole mess. Expand

Ludicrous, but enjoyable. The story concept is intriguing, but the script and therefore the acting is, shall we say, 'light on subtlety'. Good special effects. Several major plot-holes...

Very run of the mill shlocky sci fi popcorn movie. As Emmerich goes, this one is more like 2012 than independence day. Switch off your brain, get the pop corn and prepare to be unsurprised by the proceeding flying national monuments.

The biggest thing in this movie wasn't the moon but the plotholes ... However if you like explosions and don't need a story that goes along with that, then this movie is for you.

It was entertaining to watch at first, even though the plot got silly at points, but the second half of it was just too silly. Like people slam Armageddon which in a way is similar movie, but for me Armageddon is 2x better than this.

Fun movie. If you go into it expecting a bad movie, like I did, I think you will find it fun. Don't think about the plot too much. Just go along for the ride.

A bit messy, this.

'Moonfall' is actually good in areas that I was expecting it to be bad in and bad in areas I thought it might've been good in. I had caught one of the trailers - at the cinema for a different film - and didn't hold high hopes for it, especially with the 'Don't Look Up' similarity, though thought the humour/silliness might carry it over the line.

Yet, the humour is poor and it's in fact the more serious elements that come to the fore. I honestly enjoyed the sci-fi bits of it and the more dramatic stuff. The comedy is very lame, I don't think I even smirked once to be honest. They should've just played it totally straight, in my opinion anyway. The special effects, meanwhile, are a positive.

The cast, when not comedic, work fairly well together. Halle Berry, John Bradley - who may be at the front of the limp jokes but he as an actor is likeable enough that I didn't dislike him at all - and Patrick Wilson - who I always forget the name of, I was literally trying to recall him throughout the film and I still didn't crack it - are a solid trio when serious. The support cast, spearheaded by Michael Peña, are meh.

Unfortunately it's a 2½* rating from me. I do like disaster movies - '2012', Roland Emmerich's best, is great - but this one fell short; particularly towards the end. I wouldn't, personally, say it's as bad as that average rating chart suggests, but to each their own of course.

As if there aren't enough conspiracy theorists out there during the Covid era..), but it's quite enjoyable you turn your brain off and want to enjoy some Really impressive effects and ultimately dive into the world of absurdity for ~2 hours. The second half is absolutely, unapologetically bonkers and I loved it.

I'm sorry, but I can respect a fun, ridiculously high budget popcorn movie.

Unfortunately for this movie it simply doesn't land close to any of these. When you walk into Moonfall you will want to probably stand up and leave for the first hour... yes the character buildup and story was that bad. After the first half you immediately get roped back in because it seems like a switch was somehow turned in terms of which way Emmerich wanted to take the movie. This ending to the movie ironically saves this disaster film from being a disaster of a film. Definitely not the worst movie ive ever seen but not something I was thrilled to watch nor something I will ever watch again. Easily a 4/10. Expand

There are many moments were you get a McGuffin to justify why someone is doing this. Even the big reveal is kind of a let down. That said the visual and sounds effects are really good. The music isn't very interesting. I give it 42%. If you want an apocalypse movie with absolutely no sens of logic, this might be for you. Otherwise it's hard to recommend just on the sympathy for the actors. Emmerich movies are beginning to be too formulaic, just like M. Bay is doing. Expand

This story had so much potential but feels like it was handled by a team completely incapable of doing the plotline justice. Scenes that should be intense are just eye-rollingly over the top. Scenes meant to be heartfelt feel forced and cheesy. Scenes that can only done in CGI are obviously on a paltry budget and green screens.

I watched this as I enjoy the "what if?" of disaster movies and that aspect of the movie is terrible with realism completely thrown out the window, amateur special effects, and plot holes big enough to drift a bus sideways through.

Acting is from stiff to passable with the main 3 roles being the only ones that seem to have actually read the script, with a tiny ray of hope in Donald Sutherland's cameo.

Pacing is a complete mess being one of biggest offenders having random things thrown at you left and right in nonsensical ways. This is one of the worst edited movies I've seen in a long time.

If it's free go ahead and watch it but curb your expectations of what should have been a spectacle if done by a real production company. To be fair I was expecting worse coming from Tencent AKA the CCP. Of course you only get to see the US getting destroyed while China's only role was offering help. :P

But even with the right expectations, this film is just "duh". Yes, the science is non-sense, but that would be acceptable if it were at least consistent. There are too many characters, most of which barely have screen-time, let alone an arc. The main cast has 0 chemistry or engaging dialgue and the extended actions scenes just look bad with tons of green-screen and bad lighting.

This isn't that level of Blockbuster I remember from Emmerich, who used to get the basics right.

The sheer ludicrousness of Moonfall's plot could have been excused if the movie had provided an engaging story, interesting characters or even witty dialogue. Instead it borrows from better movies and ends up as a rather convoluted mess.
