FromThis is the most retarded thing Emmerich ever created. After his last stupidfest, i kinda hoped that his times of making one demented movie after the other are over, but he not only made another terrible one, he went full retard here. From the main premise of the movie down to the details where museum shuttle launches with only two main engines and SOLID ROCKET BOOSTER "loses thrust" mid flight, this is just one of these situations where you're losing IQ points just by watching the movie. This movie can make people even more stupid than they already are. Every single fan of space programs/astronomy should avoid this like a freakin' plague. It's so bad you can even laugh at it. You just feel enormous shame and cringe. Expand

The epitome of garbage and retardation. The scenario makes no sense whatsoever, the actors are just tired, the advertisement is omnipresent and the politics of whoever funded this production are all too visible.

Unfortunate, because recycling 200 sheets of paper would have been a much greater contribution to humanity than this bloated dreck.

Every Roland Emerich picture reminds you of why you hated the last Roland Emerich picture, by amplifying all of his worst creative impulses, each on a grander scale than the last. Here’s the thing: he can no longer structure an entertaining script. He can’t write dialogue, he can’t create dimensional characters. What he can do, somehow, is get movies financed.

Independence Day, a fun, throw away film that I actually like, was and is his high point. Moonfall is dumb, depressing garbage.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The idea behind it (as a disaster movie) is good, but not even the CGI can save this. The disaster scenes are the worst as the water looks really bad. Also green screen is used everywhere, even inside the Griffith Observatory and some parts in LA that could easily be shot there. Acting is just average, which is a shame especially for Halle Berry. It's a much much lower-budget version of 2012 although with much more merchandising everywhere (Kaspersky, Lexus, etc.): much shorter build-up to the disaster scenes, much less people involved in the plot, etc. and full of scientific inconsistencies i.e. the space station is exactly at the same spot although the moon has drastically changed its orbit and the gravity around it??? Well by now you’ve heard about a very strong contender for worst film of 2022, I know it’s early in the year but it’s hard to imagine anything being quite as bad as Moonfall this year.

Shockingly I had a certain expectation from director Roland Emmerich, who gave us films like The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day. They’re by no means masterpieces but they are entertaining disaster movies and The Day After Tomorrow is up there as one of my favourites. I’d argue that Moonfall is better than another failed disaster movie, Geostorm, although I guess that’s not saying much. While Geostorm lacks an actual geostorm, at least Moonfall delivers what it promises, a moon falling. Yes you heard that right, some mysterious black alien goo has knocked the moon from it’s orbit, sending it on a collision course which then causes absolute catastrophic scenes on earth. Extreme tidal waves, diminishing oxygen levels and anti gravity spots. So naturally it’s up to former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry), disgraced astronaut Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson), and the local conspiracy theorist KC Houseman (John Bradley) to save the day.

It’s been described as about five different disaster movies rolled into one and that’s very accurate. There’s one movie going on in space and about four others happening back on earth. Between the floods, water tornados, car chases and ordinary people bouncing around earth like they’re on the actual moon it’s hard to believe all of this madness is crammed into one movie. I can only hope Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson got paid enough for this rubbish. I don’t know how they made it through their scenes with a straight face. If there was ever a clear case of a “gimmie the paycheck” performances it’s these two. They’re better actors than this horrendous movie would have you believe. Moonfall is daft, you’ll feel idiotic watching it but I did laugh at some moments of sheer stupidity.

There’s definitely an audience for disaster movies and there’s also a slightly smaller audience for truly awful disaster movies. So when the terrible reviews for Moonfall started emerging it either caused you to rush to the cinema to see this car crash of a movie or stay well away. The question now remains, has Moonfall fallen into the “so bad it’s good” category? No, I’m sorry to say it hasn’t and unless you really have nothing else to do and want to have your brain switched off for a bit then I can’t recommend Moonfall. It’s dreadful from start to finish. There are better ways to spend your time and it just doesn’t have enough laughs to make up for how dull and stupid it is. Not recommended, avoid.

He's an extremely limited director and everyone knows it.

Moonfall is more of the same formula he's exploited in most of his films, with few exceptions like The Patriot, Anonymous and Stonewall.

It's the dumbest kind of high-budget entertainment possible. Nothing less, nothing more.

And his problem with other blockbuster franchises? Well, he had to advertise his movie.

As a serious movie, this is Roland Emmerich's worst movie and script by a large margin.

I'm only giving it 3 points because the third act WAS SO BONKERS that it actually became a GOOD COMEDY. WTAF!

Basically Roland mailed it in stealing lines from his previous movies and just substituting different actors. The acting was subpar; the character development nonexistent, as you could care less about a single character. The fact that the last scene suggested a sequel is laughable as this movie bombed at the box office, and deservedly so. A sequel would draw less moviegoers than Biden had at his rallies. This wasn't it. It has taken it's place among my pantheon of bad sci-fi movies, and at this point, it is currently ranking as "the absolute worst" — and believe me, it has to be a real stinker to be even worse than many of the others. Ludicrous plot, straining credulity for even the most forgiving viewer, and pushing the "science" part of science-fiction so far past the boundaries as to be almost anti-science. Do I believe in the possibility of world-sized mega-structures powered by a dwarf star? Sure. Do I believe in the possibility of sentient AIs that evolve to the point of seeking to destroy their creators? Sure. But as presented in thi movie, I think it makes the concept of both of thoese extremely unplatable, and does them both an extreme disservice. The screenwriters should be laughed out of the guild. Kudos to the CGI. That was the only good thing in the film. Expand
