" Refrito Imposible"

One of the best films I've seen recently, true masterpiece. Plot, twists, adorable characters and Halo 5 advert are all the ingredients of a great movie.

Totally recommend, 10/10.

The loudness of the soundtrack kept me from going to sleep. The story line was childishly portraying America as the heroes.the only part that held my interest was the very beginning. Emma ferguson was so obviously not riding and the cars and trucks on the straight stretches of highway so obviously stationary presumably to enable the motor bike manoeuvres. Expand

It is not an optical illusion or a stunt man. It is Cruise himself hanging on for dear life to the side of an airplane that has taken off and become airborne. However, he has been harnessed so that if he had slipped in the filming, he would have presumably survived, falling only a few feet before being secured. But how many actors could perform that stunt even with a harness? One gets the impression that Daniel Craig takes an island vacation when it's time to film the stunts—he relies on a professional double to do the risky stuff.

This film may at times be a little overwhelmed by the many chase scenes, but the plot keeps the audience guessing about which double agent is betraying whom. Cruise's character, the indefatigable Ethan Hunt, is a man who has a guardian angel sitting on his shoulder so that no real harm can ever befall him. He is a strict purist, a defender of the peace, a human superhero, and as the CIA head (Alec Baldwin) puts it, “the living manifestation of destiny.” (A few critics commented on the guffaws provoked by this line—nobody laughed at my showing in Montreal, but oddly enough, at the end of the film there was a round of applause.) In short, Hunt is to spies as the Dalai Lama is to Buddhist monks.

The IMF (Impossible Mission Force) is trying to stop the latest incarnation of evil, Solomon Lane (Sean Harris), from assassinating all the heads of state as part of a master plan conducted by the Syndicate, an international crime network. Lane is an insanely criminal mastermind, and in no time at all, he has Hunt captured and hanging by his wrists in a torture chamber. Even Hunt cannot escape from this dilemma until a beautiful double agent, Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) enters the room and miraculously releases him. Like Hunt, she is unflappable, invincible, and incorrigible. She is neither Bond girl, nor Bourne girl, nor any kind of girl. Ilsa Faust defies categorization. She is unique.

Thus begins a bizarre relationship between the two spies based on mutual respect, mutual desire for self-preservation, and mutual attraction, although consummate professionals that they are, they keep their distance from each other. Romance is clearly for mere mortals, a weakness that disciplined ninja-like warriors cannot afford to indulge. For them being impassioned means that you would do anything to save the world, whereas more carnal inclinations are to be derided as juvenile distractions.

In the end we have what has been termed the American answer to James Bond, and though Ethan Hunt is somewhat lacking in that droll British elegance, our roll-up-your-sleeves kind of folksy spy is actually more appealing. In a world where everyone has been speculating for years about who is going to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007, no one ever asks who is going to replace Tom Cruise. There's a reason for that—he is incontestably irreplaceable. Fortunately, Liam Neeson has set a new precedent with the Taken series, where aging spies who just want to retire are forced back into action because they are simply too good to hang out their gone fishin' sign. Neeson still inspires admiration at 63. Cruise is only 53, and like the character of Ethan Hunt, he can only get better with age.

"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" might be the best one out of this classic franchise, and it's definitely my 2nd favorite movie of the year so far. Needless to say, it was a fantastic experience. The action is the highlight of the movie,"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" might be the best one out of this classic franchise, and it's definitely my 2nd favorite movie of the year so far. Needless to say, it was a fantastic experience. The action is the highlight of the movie, but the performances come close to that bar. At this point, there's no denying that Tom Cruise is one of my favorite action stars in Hollywood. He makes Ethan Hunt not only look like a total badass, but also a vulnerable man, and that's what I really like about him. The action, as I said, it's phenomenal and the set-pieces are visually striking, with the "underwater" scene being the most impressive element in the film. There was also a few character drama and comedy, but not with a confusing, clichéd romance. Some stuff about the female character just seemed off when it came to what side she was on. That's further answered in the second half of the movie, but I still feel they could have fleshed the character more. You can bring up that they didn't want to reveal the girl's true motivations because they wanted the viewers to keep guessing, but that literally has been done before in previous installments, so yeah, in my opinion, it's kind of clichéd. There are also some moments that are very dumb and not credible at all. Seriously, in the beginning, Ethan enters in the plane and the wind just throws him to the wall with impact and somehow he survives? And during that chase scene in Morocco, the car does a few flips and they survive? Hmm. Nonetheless, "Rogue Nation" surprised in how much spectacle the movie could have. The action is awesome, the acting is great, the direction is slick, the movie is so well-paced and the cinematography is dazzling, not to mention, that the script is smart. Honestly, I really liked this movie and even if it has some tiny flaws, it all gets weighed down by all those fronts.

Mission Impossible 5 gave me none of that and as the movie went towards the last half I felt bored. Maybe my view would have been different if I had seen any of the other Mission Impossible films and thus already formed an attachment to these characters but as it stands I felt nothing for them.

My problem with Ethan Hunt's character is that he is too uber. Of course you know walking into the cinema that the good guys are going to win. A good action film should challenge that by adding vulnerabilities to the hero, make it seem like he's really fighting for his life. Mission Impossible 5 is the kind of film where the main character walks in, is awesome and you never really feel a sense of danger for him.

Benji is probably my favourite character of this film as he is the only one that now sticks in my head. He felt the most human which I can't say about anyone else.

Which is not to say the movie is bad, but I found nothing likable in it so gave it five stars as it falls squarely in the middle in that place between good and bad.

I'll start out by saying I'm not a fanboy of any single MI movie. I had heard many good things about this movie, but it really disappointed me. I had heard many good things about this movie, but it really disappointed me. It's not as good as MI3, and it doesn't even come close to MI1. It's like a mishmash of the second and third MI movies, meaning it has a lot of action and almost no suspense.

First off, the plot is predictable. Right from the get-go, you realize Ilsa Faust is going to be a good guy, and most likely will end the movie fighting back-to-back with Ethan. Now, the movie does start out interestingly with Ethan hanging from a side door of an airplane, but that is probably the best scene of the movie. The movie goes downhill after that as fast as the airplane takes off. The plot is predictable and rehashes all spy movie clichés: a director who doesn't believe the IMF? Check. A strangely insipid car chase (this time down some sets of shallow stairs)? Check. A motorcycle chase with the protagonist crashing and miraculously surviving, even without burns? Check. Bad guys who can't hit a target five feet in front of them? Check. It's just too predictable, and sometimes even nonsensical. Of course a device is stored inside a water-cooler cyclone... thing. Why not?

The story also suffers from some bad pacing, and the soundtrack seems largely absent when it could probably do some good.

Not only that, but the action is also very bland. That probably mainly has to do with the uninteresting choreography and the fact that it never gains momentum, but also with the awkward camera angles: the close-up camera work reminds me too much of MI3; the scenes never get heart-poundingly tense, they just look overly stylized and don't actually give your eyes any room to put things into perspective. There is no sense of 'oomph', no impact at any point. The motorcycle chase feels like it was lifted straight from the second installment.

Even the 'heist' that is being called the Mission Impossible, is not impossible at all: there is never any sense that Hunt was ever in real trouble, and the heist seemed incredibly easy. There was never any scene as suspenseful as the one with the pressure and temperature change-sensitive vault from MI1. And that's the main problem: the movie has an overly long introduction, and when it finally tells us the Mission is about to begin, the mission ends up being very simple and reaches a conclusion far too long before the psychological pressure reaches a head.

The character of Ilsa Faust is not well fleshed out, and it soon becomes clear what exactly the idea behind Ilsa's character is, and it's yet another action movie cliché. This time around, the main characters don't even become romantically involved, nor are they even very friendly; there is just no substance there. There is just something missing; the dialog is uninteresting and full of exposition, and there is little fervor, no humanity. The main antagonist, Solomon Lane, is only barely intimidating, and only in one scene. The visual presence and connection to the main character is absent, so this role is very much inferior to MI3's Owen Davian, especially when he mainly intimidates Ilsa rather than a more important character. The movie's ending doesn't actually end anything, it just feels hollow.

In conclusion, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation feels like a mishmash of MI2 and MI3, but instead of being a mixture of intrigue and infiltration with a smidgeon of action, it's full-blown action. The action is clear as day, sure, but it lacks a sense of awe and impact. There is really only one infiltration scene, and it lacks suspense and uncertainty. I think Brian De Palma needs to return and inject M:I with that classic stealth infiltration suspense and likable characters that the first movie was known for.

Simon Pegg is also very good (and very funny) is a supporting role here, as is Jeremy Renner. Super stylish, the film truly does come to life in IMAX and look sleek and is beautifully shot. Above all, it is magnificently choreographed. The action sequences are masterfully put together and look beautiful to the eye. As a an overall film, Rogue Nation is alright. As I said, it certainly does not reinvent the spy genre and uses many of the tried and true cliches along the way. If it was not so wonderfully done, it would have been a lot less enjoyful due to this fact. However, as it stands, Mission: Impossible continues to be an impressively long lasting franchise in large part thanks to Tom Cruise's refusal to age. Expand

I had almost accepted the fact that it was too much to ask for a smart, funny, and action-packed movie these days. (I’ve been a bit disappointed with some recent blockbusters this year, which I
enjoyed but know could’ve been better.) But I was thoroughly happy to be proven wrong when I saw Mission: Impossible--Rogue Nation.

**Tom Cruise gives his 100% as IMF agent Ethan Hunt--fully embracing the role and doing all the stunts. **Benji (Simon Pegg) is funny (didn’t expect him to be playing CoD at work). He’s juxtaposed well with the slightly cynical and weary Hunt, as he’s more naive and not battle-hardened. **Rebecca Ferguson is convincing in her role--she’s not frail or weak, she’s athletic and actually sort of muscular. She’s not overly sexualized, made a love interest, or a victim.

**We get an interesting character in Alec Baldwin’s Alan Hunley, director of the CIA--who doesn’t trust the IMF. Director Hunley has gravitas, and he has screen presence. You wonder whether or not he’s helping the Syndicate. **William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Luther (Ving Rhames) both needed more screentime.

The movie kicks off with a big stunt (apparently done by Cruise himself). Once the action starts, it doesn’t let up. Chasing after a MacGuffin and the Syndicate leads Cruise from one location to another, with various members of his team showing up to assist along the way.

If you want to be judgemental, nothing in ‘Mission Impossible 5’ is over-the-top or mindblowing (in terms of the script and action sequences), but the movie is better than most other films in both of those departments. The script and action scenes are smart, relying more on suspense than eye-candy. Director Christopher McQuarrie succeeds where most have struggled, in terms of balancing a decent script, action, comedy, and characters. The cinematography and editing is well done (as showcased in the Vienna opera scene).

I definitely wouldn’t say that ‘Rogue Nation’ was too predictable or a bore. I really enjoyed myself when I watched the movie. Action, suspense, sharp dialogue, and humor make the film a treat. The cast helps give the film a contagious and exhilarating energy. I honestly was surprised by some of the film's twists. (But it should be noted that I’m new to the franchise.)

I think “Rogue Nation” deserves a 10, and not because it’s perfect. The villain wasn’t that memorable, and characters like Luther and Brandt needed more screentime. Nevertheless, it’s the closest a 2015 action film has been to a 10 (at least for me). Director Christopher McQuarrie manages to make old tropes feel fun again, and balance a lot of components to make a great, enjoyable film.

I have reviewed 43 movies (on Metacritic and IMDB), some recent ones, including: Minions (Despicable Me spin-off), Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast and Furious 7, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Taken 3, and more. I also review TV shows.

It's also a bit more action-paced than recent "thinking" spy flicks like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (which, incidentally, I enjoyed tremendously). It hits a nice middle-ground between the two extremes and results in an enjoyable movie with familiar characters, an understandable plot, low-body-count action, and a satisfying conclusion.
In this installment, the IMF is back to doing what it does best – defending the world from certain annihilation while working without the cover of government protection or authority (again…where does the money come from?). Ethan Hunt is off the radar, staying one step ahead of the CIA and one step behind his enemy until he is able to reunite his team to do the “Impossible” (thus the title, right?). There isn’t a lot of new territory here, and “The Syndicate” doesn’t sound all that different from the version of SPECTRE we’ll be seeing later in the year. However, it is well-crafted and well-executed, and is therefore a good example of what movies do best – escapist and enjoyable.
This could be a personal opinion, but "Rogue Nation" felt much more like the original movie than any of the others in the series. Not only do we have an explicit reference to the original NOC-list heist, but the movie’s locations, lighting, and pacing lend it the same air of foreign charm that helped separate the original from predecessor Bond and Bourne movies. While the movie drags in spaces, there are a few scenes which are balletic in their execution – the complicated “chase” scene above the Vienna Opera House being the most obvious example.
All in all, enjoyable and recommended.

The plot is virtually identical to every Mission Impossible movie since the first one. If you haven't seen them, then this one will be fresh, but if you have seen ANY of them, then the formula will be wholly recognizable.

Rogue Nation = [Ethan Hunt + his IMF team (in the last few movies that's been Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and la femme du jour minus my bad Francais)] + the IMF is on the verge of being shut down for one reason or another + Hunt enlists the help of his associates + there's a heist of some sort from an impenetrable location + Hunt almost dies doing the impossible (as someone said in one of the earlier films "this isn't mission difficult, it's mission impossible") = most of the team lives to save the world another day, not including the franchise opener, in which his team got mercked, which really was a plus for the film.

Sound familiar? That was the formula and plot from Mission Impossible #2, #3, and #4 - if you want the one for #5 - see the above formula and add a couple years Cruise...

Its like there was a checklist of action movie activities that they needed to hit. Cue motorcycle chase, cue car chase, cue resuscitation, cue savior of girl, cue break-into-heavily-and-impossibly-armed-building-and-steal-important-super-secret-documents, cue corny dumb jokes. Each scene more predictable than the last. It seems like they just stole the best scenes & ideas from the previous four movies and mashed them all together.

This is the worst instalment of the series to date.

The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, so I was caught off guard when it turned out to be less than I had expected. The main problem with the film is that it sorely lacks any distinctive or memorable action sequence. The only one of any note (it involves a lot of water and very little oxygen) was interesting and unique, but it didn't last very long. As for the characters, I wish Cruise's compatriots had had more screentime. The best aspect of this film is the female lead, who really outshines Cruise in every scene. She has great screen presence.
Overall, I'd say I enjoyed this MI less than its predecessor. It's not a bad film, but I left the theater feeling pretty blase about it.

The script is okay it's not that great pretty linear and predictable but it's still fun movie even though main bad guy is kind a terrible , this is a movie that you should watch not only action movie fan but all of the movie fan.

2015 could easily be dubbed the “Year of the Spy” with the subversive and entertaining ‘Kingsman’, hit Melissa McCarthy comedy ‘Spy’, the upcoming Guy Ritchie 60’s romp ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ and the 24th “Bond” ‘Spectre’ later in the2015 could easily be dubbed the “Year of the Spy” with the subversive and entertaining ‘Kingsman’, hit Melissa McCarthy comedy ‘Spy’, the upcoming Guy Ritchie 60’s romp ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ and the 24th “Bond” ‘Spectre’ later in the year, but with the 5th ‘Mission Impossible’ installment ‘Rogue Nation’ Tom Cruise reminds us he’s still in the fight.

By now we all know what to expect from a Mission Impossible movie and ‘Rogue Nation’ ticks all the boxes, a simple plot featuring an appropriately menacing villain, gadgets, double-agents and superbly executed action set-pieces throughout.

But aside from the impressive stunts performed largely by Mr. Cruise himself as we’re often reminded, it’s the comic sensibility and sense of adventure that makes ‘Rogue Nation’ entertaining, taking the audience to far-flung locales from Belarus to Washington DC, Vienna to Morocco and focusing much of the narrative in London.

Despite its entertainment value however ‘Rogue Nation‘s’ appeal is limited by the same factors that limit other ‘Mission Impossible’ films and spy sequels in general, after a strong start the story loses steam and starts to look like a blueprint for threading huge action set-pieces together.

There are only so many impressive stunts you can take and still maintain a high level of engagement and the predictably menacing villain with an unconvincing motivation doesn’t help, still despite its limitations ‘Rogue Nation’ is entertaining enough to hold your attention for over 2 hours and after 5 films in the franchise, star and producer Tom Cruise & Co. have fine-tuned the formula.

The Bottom Line…
Action-packed, adventurous and entertaining, ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ can’t quite break the limitations of the genre but it’s a worthy summer blockbuster if you know what to expect when going in… and by now we all should.

I feel it is even better than it's previous film Ghost Protocol. The action and stunts are really enjoyable and the camera angles, speed, as well as timing is done just about right so you're not too confused as to what's going on. Something that this film series always gets right.

I also liked that they kind of bumped up the storyline as well, whilst still making it somewhat similar to it's previous films. But I still feel that it needs to be worked on as it's still very similar to the previous two films, the third and fourth one. But maybe we will see an improvement in it's sequel. But lets be honest, the MI series is best known for it's action and great acting, not it's storyline.

It was just a great thrill ride and it's one of those films that I wish was longer because I enjoyed it that much which is kind of rare for me. Especially films that come out nowadays.

I cant wait to see what they do next to raise the bar with its sequel.

Problem is... The doors are closing, the plane is starting up and the cargo is still on board.

Simon Peggs Agent Benji Dunn is waiting for someone and they are nowhere to be found. Jeremy Renner’s Agent William Brandt, on the other end of the line is stuck behind a monitor and is not even there to help.

The mission is about to turn critical... With no one else around my heart starts racing. The plane hits the tarmac and starts to rev its agents and Tom Cruises Ethan Hunt, runs up, out of seemingly nowhere, ready to jump on and risk his life fictionally and literally hanging from the doors of the plane as it lifts off! This is what mission impossible is all about.

This amazing set up is what begins this new chapter, now the fifth in the franchise (there will be a sixth) and all the characters and team that were so brilliantly put together in the previous instalment 'Ghost Protocol' (directed by the wonderful Brad Bird) is mostly all intact apart from the loss of ' Paula' Also we finally see the proper return of Ving Rhames as 'Luther'

It is nice to finally have a team we can rely on returning. Unlike the first three films in which the only real characters to stick around was the ageless Cruise and the always witty Rhames.

This time around we see them once again going rogue and on the run from a threat known only as The Syndicate. A very clever shadow organisation that seems to be dead on eradicating the Impossible Mission Force once and for all.

This premise is exciting and it starts off so damn well. Until we start seeing more and more of the organisation and its brains. Such a generic villain is what gives this otherwise brilliant spy flick a kick in the teeth. Played by Shaun Harris (From TV Series The Borgias). He gets his role through and does the job he intends. But with a lot less threatening whim as any previous villain we have seen in the franchise yet. I still think Philip Seymour Hoffman in MI3 was by far the best (Who doesn't like a secret weapon called a Rabbit Foot?).

The break out star of this show is the beautiful and witty Rebecca Ferguson (Duane Johnsons 'Hercules') ‘Seen Pictured’
she plays such a great character. Who doesn't love a strong female lead? Those eyes are so mystifying and you’re never quite sure where the hell she is going to end up, or on which side she lands. I hope we see more of her in years to come.

The Director Christopher McQuarrie (Edge of Tomorrow and Jack Reacher) brings all the cards to the table here. He makes us gasp at the right moments and laugh out loud in others. He seems to do everything right and yet it just never reaches the heights of the previous film Ghost Protocol (That Tower - Dubai's Burj Khalifa, 123 stories up was an incredible piece of movie making) the feeling that Ethan Hunt was in control and brought a brand new fiercer team together. It was so tightly woven, not a moment passed that I felt I could look away. Rogue Nation treads a lot of the same ground and to a lesser extent. It tries to be the same with more of the same. That’s not always a good thing. But it works here. I just want to see the next one take the risks that Ghost Protocol did and move the franchise forward in exciting ways. I still hate the fact they killed off Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) so quickly.

The music throughout the movie, composed by Joe Kramer hits all the right notes and some clever new ones. For a little known composer (previous movies Jack Reacher, Way Of The Gun) it has some excellent scores!

If you love the series so far and you can handle seeing a lot more of Tom Cruise doing what Cruise does best (putting his life on the line for entertainment) you won’t be disappointed. It definitely has a lot more laughs than previous films and i believe its now comfortable in its new shell. Just don’t go in expecting anything more.

Not with Mission: Impossible, it seems, because Rogue Nation is yet another incredibly silly yet undeniably entertaining entry in the 17 year old franchise that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. This time around, Ethan Hunt is now an international fugitive and must take on his most impossible mission (heh) to bring down the rogue organization Syndicate, who are committed to bring down the IMF. The plot twists keep you on your toes the whole time, and it's really what makes Rogue Nation so thrilling. It does succumb to the normal spy movie goofiness, one time in particular early in the movie that made me shake my head at how ridiculous the whole idea was. The double, triple and quadruple crosses get rather confusing as the plot progresses too. There's never a dull moment in Rogue Nation, a suitably fun and over-the-top summer blockbuster, and it proves that Tom Cruise is an unstoppable action star. Expand

I agree with totally with Sesshomurai's review. Read it for a detailed critique. My additional problems are:

The humor in the opening and various other places in the film was so out of place for this type of action movie, that it gave me a bad flashback to when the James Bond films jumped the shark with snide remarks and fancy gadgets instead of a tight, gritty, strong screenplay.

The plot was stupid and predictable. Definitely the worst of this series. The movie was too long and just when I thought it was about to wrap up, they started a fourth and fifth act.

The villain was good until he started speaking. He had this kind of higher pitched voice and he whispered all his lines. Very annoying.

Not trying to pick on Cruise, I really like the guy; but his overly boyish haircut in parts of the flick, made him look like a 53 year old trying to look like a 17 year old. Very disconcerting. Hard to imagine him as a master spy. I also believe that Tom Cruise needed to lose about 10-15 lbs. in order to make some of his action sequences more believable. All in all, a very big disappointment.

As Benji, Simon Pegg endears himself to the audience AGAIN! His character is funny, smart and he continues showing us his action chops. Tom Cruise keeps us wondering "how does he do it?" He shows us he is an action star and is very comfortable and likable (mostly) in this genre. Aside from his occasional William Shatner style of line delivery, what you see is what you get and the getting is pretty darn good. Alec Baldwin shows the softer side of his "good guy, bad guy" portrayals. I was expecting to really dislike Alan Hunley, but, surprise, I couldn't no matter how much I anticipated that I would. If you are a fan of this franchise, this will keep you a fan. It isn't Shakespeare or Mr. Holmes, but it's a summer blockbuster with all the special effects, pyrotechnics, muscle flexing, fire power, intrigue and the beautiful and young femme fatale. So cozy up to your popcorn and turn your cellphone off. If you blink, you'll miss something. Expand

Rogue Nation works on many levels, from action to story to characters to pacing,writeer/director Chris McQuarrie ,manages to craft a brilliantly compelling story, about family, friendship and how far will the already established team go to protect each-other in the tough circumstances that they're put into, loyalties get put to the test ,whilst character interactions are handled with incredible amount of care and emotion ,thanks to terrific performances from the entire cast of IMF members and some great writing to back it up.The main reason why these films is that the team always feels essential to delivering the emotional punch that it should and here it works extremely well.Tom Cruise is one of the most reliable action stars today, not only will he deliver death-defying authentic stunts(i mean seriously the guy attaches himself to a plane and flies with it hanging on the wing,8 times)he continues to be the same enigmatic and highly intelligent Ethan Hunt that we've known and loved for so many years now,yet here Cruise is at his most dangerous and most vulnerable, his will to constantly rush into these deadly situations is cleverly addressed here and becomes the main emotional point ,which brings the whole team to care about their riskiest companion.Simon Pegg as Benji gets more to do ,and his scenes with Cruise are some of the most hilarious and most sad really,Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames have smaller roles as Brandt and Luther ,but the script still gives them a few scenarious were you do feel their need to be there.ALec Baldwin on the other hand provides a nice intimidating touch to the whole film.Who surprised me the most was Rebecca Ferguson as British secret agent, working undercover in the villainous syndicate. She is the female equivalent of Ethan and kicks just as much ass, while having a really feminine look and attitude as well, she's charming, polite and meaningful.Last but not least,Sean Harris was actually really good as the main antagonist of the film,as a leader of a powerful rogue organization, his methods are cold and calculated, his nature is motivated and creepy,a true match for Ethan and the IMF,a great improvement over Ghost Protocol's villain whose motivations were unclear and felt like the worst part of the film.

Director Christopher McQuarrie has only directed 3 films previously,The way of the Gun(which was a poor start to say the least)his first team-up with Cruise in Jack Reacher(which i really enjoyed)you must think the action would be serviceable at best, well,it is anything but serviceable it's astonishing, every single action set-piece feels riveting and leaves you breathless by the end of it.The best thing is that the planning and the execution are both masterfully crafted.Listening in on how to breach an underwater safe, with no oxygen tanks ,rewiring 3 security disks, while also having to dodge and avoid a mechanical coolant-arm,just in time to clear the security pass for another one of the team's members,is nerve-racking,and the execution of it completely lives up to the intense organizing.Aside from that the films has THE BEST motorcycle chase i've seen in films,a perfect use of practical effects and a handful of stylish directorial tricks such as POV shots ,make going at 120mph ,avoiding traffic ,while being held at constant gunpoint a pure roller-coaster,without railing to hold onto.An opera house assassination has some superbly choreographed fight sequences too,the characters full use of the constantly shifting environment makes for a fight that's more about wit than fists and shows just how much McQuarrie pays attention to detail to enhance the combat experience and make it something more than a well-shot fist-leg bumps.Yet what's most surprisingly welcome is that McQuarrie sticks to a rather quiet and intimate final act, showcasing that the battle between Ethan and Solomon,is more intellectual than physical.Fortunately though Ferguson manages to fend off and win in a fantastic knife-fight scene that had my pulse pounding ,and made me understand that women can wrap their legs up on you in not-so-fun ways too.

Filled with spectacular action, amazing characters ,a rich detailed plot that cleverly flips genre conventions and cliches on their head and finds new ways to reintroduce them in new ways, while still mainting heart and soul and family at it's course,Mission Impossible Rogue Nation is my favorite Mission film yet, huge props to McQuarrie for keeping the franchise on the roll and not letting it run out of steam and five movies in ,it's hard to believe but...................I still want more :)

The cast remains in-tact from Ghost Protocol but this time there's a more interesting plot, not terribly dissimilar to the first film (minus the internal betrayal). What really got me going here was the action sequences and the filming. Everything was so well thought out and captured - the angles were always amazing that I felt like I was almost there. Movies that feature a lot of movement and action scripting don't always try to do anything too elaborate/interesting, and that can be the make/break of a movie like this. I don't know why anyone would really hate this movie, but for me I enjoyed it so much I will definitely be catching this one again when it's out on Blu-ray. Expand

Ok, so none of it is to be taken very seriously and basically it’s a load of old tosh. However, should one really be clock watching and yawning this much? Tom Cruise is a good action hero and by now the part fits him like a hand in a glove, but I am less impressed with Simon Pegg’s comic turn as his side kick. Roll on September when hopefully all these dumb summer movies will be way behind us and we can finally get to grips with movies of real quality, class and substance. Expand

InWe’ve all probably seen the preview where Tom Cruise is hanging off the side of a large airplane taking off. Well, the next morning after I saw this movie… that scene was about the only thing I could remember if someone asked me about it. In other words; it was just okay. I talked to my friends about this and we came to the conclusion we’re experiencing “Cruise-fatigue”. I can’t fault the guy for trying to keep the paychecks coming in, but Hollywood’s enthusiasm for Tom Cruise has resulted in choosing his name over movie quality/integrity.
Note to Hollywood: if you're writing any more Mission Impossible scripts, please leave Cruise out of it and let him start auditioning for grandpa roles.
Tom’s sidekick Jeremy Renner (of recent Bourne fame) is a bit of a fresher face in the cast, but his role in this sequel is much blander than the last one. As for positive points; there is a decent motorcycle chase scene, and the newest female face in this genre (Rebecca Ferguson) I thought was excellent. She is pretty but not in a way that makes it hard to believe she can also beat someone down. Hopefully this will open up opportunities for her because it would be fun to see her in more films.

Ghost Protocol still remains as the best Mission Impossible film in the series in my opinion. That doesn't mean Rogue was a bad movie, because it is definitely better than MI3 and MI2. Some of the scenes in Rouge Nation felt a bit too long, which would've been better if they shortened some of it. The action was great, just like the previous films, it was very suspenseful and engaging. The new girl in this movie was freaking awesome, because she was tough and sexy at the same time. I hope she returns for the next sequel, because I would definitely go see it just for her. My actual score for this film, 7.8/10. It's not the best Mission Impossible, but it's definitely up there, just one level lower than Ghost Protocol. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not a bad movie, per se; but is very much in the summer blockbuster trope. Go in expecting cogent script writing and you'll find this movie is a 3, at best. However, go in expecting a silly fun time and you'll give it what I did, a 6+. There are many (too many) moments where everything just works out for Mr. Cruise and team, but it's not for lack of trying; one has to give Cruise an A for *trying* to still be an 80's action hero, despite his early onset age and height. Simon Pegg is really funny though and Alec, is well, Alec; which is to say always fun to watch. Expand

All the actors do pretty well (especially Simon Pegg, as he almost always does) but even the minor characters do surprisingly well. The stunts? As spectacular as ever. Nothing truly "tops" the skyscraper scene in Ghost Protocol, but there is more then enough action to keep you interested. The fight scenes are fantastically shot, but sadly lacking next to any Marvel movie in recent times. But, what the film lacks in fist fights, it makes up for in unexpected laughs and frantic, edge-of-your-seat moments.
As far as the movies plot goes, this is not a Christopher Nolan film. There aren't any twists or turns to leave you scratching your head, and almost every "reveal" I had predicted. But, for a mindless good time, I cant think of a better alternative.

The action is exhilarating and Tom Cruise is as suave and deadly as ever despite being in his early 50s. In fact, the film even pokes fun at his physical shortcomings several times; for example, by pinning him against a physically taller, larger henchman. The other actors are all great in their roles too, can't really complain.

The one thing that stands out in this film though is the improved level of writing. It's not "Jason Bourne" level, but it is a lot better than the previous Mission Impossible films. I was genuinely pleased as the plot kept going in different directions and revealing things I didn't expect, but still somehow made sense.

The only downside is that the film does have a LOT of plotholes and cliches. Overall though, a very entertaining film, and an improvement over Ghost Protocol.

And BOOM - here comes Rogue Nation, and boy - did it come with a bang. Let me just say right off the bat that, this is probably my favorite Mission Impossible film…by far.

Gone are the days that you’d need slow motion, flying white doves or lens flairs to make a Mission Impossible film interesting, this brand new installment of the franchise rejuvenises the aging series in an explosive and exciting way. What I like about the Mission films is that, much like the Harry Potter and James Bond movies, each installment of the series brings something different and refreshing, thanks to their ever changing directors. And like the Marvel films, each Mission Impossible embodies a different action genre.

I have to admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jack Reacher. It was an okay action film that didn’t do much else for me. So when the announcement was made that Christopher McQuarrie was directing the fifth mission impossible I was a little skeptical. Even after I saw the trailer I still had my reservation toward the finished product. I mean I have so much respect for JJ Abrams and Brad Bird that the inner nerd in me, sorta-kinda wished they had picked someone with a better track record. With all that said, the first five minutes into this movie I was convinced that my months and months of worries were for nothing. Like I was sold. I can honestly say right now that this is the best mission impossible film to date.

Now, my biggest issue with Ghost Protocol was that although it was very entertaining, it didn’t have that edge on your seat suspense like Mission 3 did, and that plus a weak and generic villain robbed away some of the potentially intense moments. This time around, we have a formidable villain who is someone even Ethan refers to during one very nail-biting scene as “his equal”. And his plan is pretty screwed up. He’s not the in your crazy, in your face villain, he’s soft spoken and civil and that’s what makes him so **** dangerous because throughout the film I had this feeling that he was this time bomb waiting to explode. He really raised the stake of the game, and the audience despised him for that, I know I did, when I wanted someone to show him who’s boss, like, I wanted him to be taught a lesson in the end. When a villain gets the audience to feel that way, it’s usually a sign that it’s a very well written character.

Another well-written character is newcomer to the series, Rebecca Ferguson. I didn’t know who she was before this film. But now, oh yeah. She was such a badass in this movie. Not only that, but she is not your typical Mission Impossible filler girl, she is an actual person with a pretty neat character development and story arc. It’s been a while since the Mission series had a female character with substance and also knows how to kick ass. Her character is such a breath of fresh air that it made an already top-notch movie even more exciting. One of the highlights of the film, in my opinion.

Of course, then you have the returning characters from the previous movies like Benji, Brandt and Luther who were more or less the side characters but were still pretty much in the picture. They are mostly responsible for the comic relief moments of the movie. And the genuine camaraderie among these characters just makes this team really great. Like you want to root for them to win.

The biggest thing I like about the direction Chris McQuarrie took the movie is that, it’s acknowledging the fact that this is an aging franchise. It managed to make references to all four previous Mission Impossible movies, and as a long time fan I feel like this was a very a smart move. With the exception of James bond, when a franchise that stretches to as long as 20 years, it usually screams been there done that. But Mission Impossible manages to avoid all that which is very neat.

Of course, while the movie handled the characters pretty well, its action sequences are just as stellar. Apart from tom cruise dangling in midair on an airplane, a stunt he actually performed himself, there were many other spectacular action scenes, notably, a stunt-filled, high-speed freeway chase that not only provided a neat little throwback to the motorcycle chase from Mission 2, but also kept me holding my breath from its sheer action galore. There is an underwater sequence with no music in the background which really threw the audience into the movie itself and that was breathtakingly intense. This movie probably has the best action scenes in the entire franchise.

The movie for me is a perfect blend of all four previous Mission Impossibles, and everything just flows so well and fits together seamlessly. I was still thinking about this movies hours after seeing it on opening weekend. It’s what a summer action blockbuster should be, and it’s what every mission impossible fan deserves.

Good morning Mr. Fan,

Tom is still a Rogue agent and the IMF is being disavowed by both congress and the CIA director, nicely played by Alec Baldwin. Ethan must pull his team together and put a stop to the Syndicate which wants to disrupt the balance of power in the world.

Tom is in great shape for an actor in his 50's and is joined by most of his team from Ghost Protocol. The movie leaves doubt about the allegiances of several main players throughout the movie in order to keep you guessing. There are plenty of hand to hand combat scenes, computer hacking scenes, air, ground and water scenes, and last but not least impossible mission scenes, which of course, is why you are interested in this movie.

Your mission Fan, should you choose to accept, is to go see the summer movie blockbuster that you have been waiting for and have a rollicking good time in the process. As always, should you or any of your friends not agree with this review, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This review will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Fan.

The words I can use to describe this movie do not exist. The fight scenes were done excellently, one thing that worried me was that the movie was pushed from December to July 31st, but it was worth it. Rebecca Ferguson, I don't know what she has done but she should be in a lot more things. Jeremy Renner was a better Aaron Cross in this movie than he was in Bourne Legacy (I hope that makes sense) Another thing that was really well done was how they didn't make the story to convoluted, what I mean by that is movies not just spy movies think by putting a bunch of plot points together in some unorginized fashion is clever. This movie movie is the definition of a great spy movie. I don't like giving out 10/10s but I have to. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ethan Hunt and team take on their most impossible mission yet, tracking down the Syndicate - a highly skilled international rogue organization, committed to destroying the IMF.

The fifth entry in a franchise that began almost twenty years ago, still starring now 53 year old Tom Cruise, the MI films have offered memorable action and ‘Rogue Nation’ doesn’t disappoint, but it feels like we’ve been here before.

Tom Cruise assembles his usual colleagues Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames to eliminate the threat posed by the Syndicate. With CIA director (Alec Baldwin) determined to shut down the IMF and newcomer Rebecca Ferguson as the agent whose allegiance is a mystery, there’s much to keep the audience engaged. Sean Harris as the main villain, however, isn’t up to much apart from wearing stylish spectacles and delivering a performance that’s not too far off Eddie Redmayne in Jupiter Ascending. Well, maybe not THAT bad, but not memorable either.

From the incredible opening plane stunt, a fight scene played out in the Vienna Opera House that outdoes Bond at his own game, to a frantic car/bike chase within the narrow streets of Morocco, these sequences had me holding my breath. Yet funnily enough the one scene that failed to impress as much was the underwater vault mission, with it’s CGI heavy visuals and poor execution/realisation, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

‘Jack Reacher' director Christopher McQuarrie doesn’t bring anything that sets it apart drastically from Brad Bird’s Ghost Protocol, with familiar beats like face masks, double agents, a weak villain and uh, ‘disavowed’. Yet i still enjoyed myself because thankfully it’s not a turn-your-brain off type effort. Tom Cruise’s energy and drive push this film. Pacing, tone and humour are all handled well, the performances and dialogue are decent enough. The action direction is excellent, no shakey cam or over editing. If you came for the stunts alone, you won’t leave unhappy. Despite all that, there’s a feeling that the producers might rest on their laurels after hitting a groove that began with MI4.

But it's hard to feel worried about Ethan Hunt when he's basically Superman without the red cape. Remember when he was being mercilessly tortured psychologically and physically by Philip Seymour Hoffman in M:i:III, or when he looks terrified because a terrorist is in control of a nuclear missile in Ghost Protocol? That vulnerability is gone. Another notorious problem is the ending. It was too abrupt, since it didn't give proper closure to the characters and felt too small in comparison to the rest of the film. Perhaps I'm being too harsh, but after Mad Max: Fury Road and Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow, Rogue Nation does feel a bit underwhelming. Rebecca Ferguson is the main reason the movie is worth watching, I hope we get to see her in more films. Expand

(Please note that I have not seen the other Mission Impossible movies so this was my first experience seeing these kind of movies.)

When you see one of the movies like these, it gives you a rare feeling. It’s a movie that shockingly stabs your heart like a storm. Luckily, Mission Impossible 5 is one of those movies that feels that way.

Tom Cruise plays really well as Ethan Hunt although the performances from every single actor were wonderful like they felt it, but it’s the action sequences that steal the show which are so much fun. Some of the action sequences that I’ve personally enjoyed are the motorcycle chase and the underwater sequence. Yes, the movie is very violent and it can be a bit slow at times. But it is an action movie with terrific performances, action, humor, and heart.

P.S: In response to DavidWarden, I have seen both Ant-Man and Mission Impossible 5 and I thought Mission Impossible 5 was the better movie.

"Looks like the mission just got impossible". - Quote by Ben Stiller.

The story in Rogue Nation is about Ethan Hunt and his team face their biggest and most dangerous threat yet (Would you believe it) The Syndicate, an international rogue group that are as skilled as they are deadly - and their number one goal is to eliminate the IMF.

Before I talk about Rogue Nation here is all my thoughts on the previous Mission Impossible movies. The first movie in my opinion was decent and a lot of hard work went into that film, I mean you look at the behind the scenes of the first movie people really worked they ass of on that movie and to me it paid off nicely. I give the first movie a strong 3/5 star's.

Mission Impossible 2 was pretty terrible to be honest. I felt like I was watching a different movie because to me I didn't feel like the first movie or even a Mission Impossible movie. I'm giving Mission Impossible 2 a 2/5 star's.

Mission Impossible 3 really got things back on track after the messy MI 2. Philip Seymour Hoffman was a great villain and JJ. Abrams did a good job directing the action scenes and the whole movie. I'm giving the third one a 3½ / 5 star's.

Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol was pretty good. The actions scenes and the characters are the highlight of the movie. My only problem with the movie is that the villain was a bit weak and wasn't really that menacing. Overall I'm giving Ghost Protocol movie a solid 4/5 star's.

And now for Rogue Nation and it was a very enjoyable movie and I liked it a little more than Ghost Protocol.

I was a bit worried but at the same time interesting on what Christopher McQuarrie will bring to a franchise like this, because this is the same guy who directed Jack Reacher and I though that movie was okay but nothing special. Brad Bird was originally suppose to direct this movie but dropped out because he wanted to direct Tomorrowland and then Christopher McQuarrie stepped in. After seeing the movie I'm so happy to say that Christopher McQuarrie did a great job directing this movie as he added a lot to this movie when it comes to action and it's characters. McQuarrie really gave the actions scenes a feeling of rush and the action never got stale after wards like some action movies do after awhile. Nicely done Christopher McQuarrie.

It's crazy how Tom Cruise is 50 years old and he's doing all of his own stunts for his fans and keep it real and not over use CGI. He was great in this movie like in everyone movie Tom Cruise was in. You can tell by his face that he's in the zone when he dose these stunts that could kill him or hurt him really bad. Tom Cruise nailed the humor, he nailed the action scenes and he nailed the role.

Many people and myself had no idea who Rebecca Ferguson was before Rogue Nation. She was in last years Hercules with Dwayne Johnson that nobody remembered and I already forgotten that movie already. Rebecca Ferguson was so good in this movie that she is going places after this because of how good she was. In this movie she was like the female Liam Neeson from Taken because it's the whole "I'm going to kill you in one blow" kind of character. Rebecca and Cruise worked together perfectly and she nailed the role of a strong female character.

Simon Pegg was great in this movie playing Benji. It's surprising that not a lot of people give him credit in this movie as his known best at comedy but he's also a great action actor star as well, he proved that in Ghost protocol, Rogue Nation and Hot Fuzz.

The rest of the cast like: Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner and Alec Baldwin all did great in this movie.

The one thing that the Mission Impossible movies doesn't do very well is it's villain. Philip Seymour Hoffman was the only good villain in Mission Impossible series but the rest of villains have been weak and pretty forgettable. But the villain in Rogue Nation has a lot of motivation and he's the kind of villain that you understand where is coming from. Sean Harris dose a great performance as this chilling character but it wasn't an incredible villain but still better than the one we got in the other movies.

Now for the problems: The movie itself isn't flawless as these some scenes in the movie that the pacing dragged a little bit and when the characters have conversations about the gadgets and stuff it wasn't that interesting as Ghost Protocol did it better, because Ghost Protocol was a straight up action movie filled with humor and entertaining characters and when they have conversations about gadgets it was interesting and creative.

Overall Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation isn't only just a good action movie it's a good movie on it's own. The movie took elements from the first movie and Ghost Protocol and puts it together in this movie which made it a very entertaining movie.

Where it stands in the series: first one was okay, second was awful, third was quite good, fourth was okay, this one is lame. Some idiot critic is claiming this better than Bond and Bourne. On the whole these movies are not nearly as good as the best Bonds but better made overall than the Bournes which in my book were very sloppy after the first one.
It has much of the signature style, clock ticking set pieces, trick identities, etc., but this time it's all so very, very tired! I've seen this movie before a hundred times! The plot is typically convoluted and silly. Jeremy Renner is useless and annoying. Alec Baldwin doesn't seem to know if he's in a serious movie or an SNL sketch. The audience seemed to be laughing at the movie not with it over some of the silly dialogue exchanges (Then again the audience partially applauded at the end, it was made up of at least half morons I'd say judging for some of the wasteoids sitting near me, probably professional critics looking to have a bright day and cut this dud a break. That's how they roll, it's all in the release timing, they were ready for a more serious non-superhero movie so they unjustifiably praise this no matter how lackluster it actually is. What stupid idiots! They should be all sued in class action for incompetent financial advisement.)
This whole Cruise did it for real stunt thing with the plane (makes no difference whatsoever in a pretend story, this isn't sports where the outcome is unknown, we know he was fine in real life), the underwater bit (that he actually held his breath for 6 minutes making that scene is such an absurdly preposterous account being told to the press and it's not even questioned as an outright lie is it? Michael Phelps couldn't do that on his best day.) Another is that he did all his own stunt driving, fine but then the scene goes so obviously CGI by the end that it calls the integrity of everything they are saying into question! The whole gimmick of his doing his own stunts to sell this movie is so passé nowadays. It meant something when Ford did it on "Raiders", but it just doesn't matter now. The problem was way back when you could see the stuntman actually in the frame, or you didn't show faces for that reason. Now with actors' faces digitally painted onto stuntmen or with outright digital doubles being used it's irrelevant.
I still think Tom Cruise is a great movie star and a very good actor. He should do more serious movies at this point and not this kind of big expensive junk just to stay popular and land box office. A trend amongst all older super stars and the other older ones are even more guilty of it.

The well structured plot helps a lot in full character developments of all the cast while the chemistry between Cruise and Ferguson is excellent which enables the audiences to feel the interpersonal engagement and teamwork spirit in completing the impossible mission. Joe Kraemer does well in composing the scores by mixing the MI theme into different style of musics while the action sequences are captured in great cinematography angle and in a variety of shootings, hand combats and vehicles chasing. The twisting at climax and the surprising way to end the fate of the impossible villain are presented at a perfect pacing, leading this installment as the bridge connection to potentially expand further and deeper. Tom Cruise is still kicking ass, and looking badass. Finally, a director has realized the major importance of humour in these movies, a slight overlaying of cheesy one liners helps, but doesn't qualify as comedy. Rogue Nation is funnier than one can expect. Spectacular car chases, grand action set pieces and exotic locations are all included in package, and Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are actually pretty amazing. But the real star is, of course, 53 years old badass, Tom Cruise, who drives supercars through narrow roads, rides motorbikes on top of the edges of dizzyingly high cliffs, while shooting bad guys with a superlong pistol. The plot revolves around a "rogue nation' called the Syndicate and Ethan Hunt and company trying to find out if the Syndicate exists and if it does, to kill everyone associated with it. Trouble is, no one can be trusted. The plot is simple to understand, and doesn't fish much into the movie lineup to make sure you have watched every single film in the series to watch Rogue Nation. Slick action, solid scripting, great action and Tom Cruise as badass as ever make Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation a wonder of filmmaking for years to come. Simply put, just watch it. Expand

Very solid action flick that doesn't get into the overcomplicated territory that plagues so many films these days. No Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy here. And the lead actress (from Sweden) is terrific.

It was good to see Tom Cruise kick ass in the movie. The chick was really hot and at times I was actually rooting for her. Simon Pegg ( Benji) was also really great AND funny in this movie. The only drawbacks for the film was the film was a bit too long, and Jeremy Renner was barely in the movie. Overall, this was what I paid like $17 for. And a tip is too come extremely early for the showing cause my IMAX theater was full, and the one after that was full and the one after that was sold out. Also, I think the stunts were amazing and the action sequences were well-filmed. And the movie actually had some jokes that worked. Expand

A slightly lesser effect than Ghost Protocol which had reinvigorated the franchise with superior action set pieces and introducing the best IMF team since the original where all members felt essential. It recycles plot points ripped from previous entries (e.g. Disavowed/dismantled team, another stunt where Hunt has to retrieve data from a maximum security vault). No action set piece quite matches the impressive Burj Khalifa stunt from Protocol (the trailer highlight of Hunt holding on to the plane for dear life as it takes off is a card played too early and nothing matches the spectacle of this for the rest of the film). Protocol is a better film simply because it utilizes the team more effectively. It had a good balance for making all members essential where as Rogue can feel at times like a solo Cruise action film with team members on the phone for moral support. Rogue attempts to increase the comic banter from Simon Pegg's Benji character and a lot of the film functions as a two man funny team (which is its biggest strength) however Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames get mostly sidelined which is disappointing. The film introduces a new female double agent played by Rebecca Ferguson working simultaneously with Hunt and the enemy but her double crosses are textbook 'Bond Girl' although Ferguson has potential in future entries if her character is more fleshed out rather than simply acting as a distraction for Hunt to chase and lose sight of the mission objectives at crucial moments. Rogue also has a weak villain (Sean Harris is usually terrifying and creepy in other roles; in Rogue he feels restrained) and forgettable final confrontation which isn't as memorable as the train sequence from the original film. Overall, this film displays an aging Cruise as a action star with plenty of gas left in the tank but the next film should hopefully contain a stronger more essential team that Hunt needs in the game at all times and not just in the backseat. The film features terrific action sequences, made all the better by Tom Cruise's devotion to doing his own stunts. In particular the motorcycle chase is my favorite single action sequence of this year. The film takes some liberties, and has a few inventions that don't seem technologically possible, but at the st seems as though Mission Impossible has become the Fast and Furious of spy films, where it may not be the most realistic, but it remains aware, and constantly tries to up itself. As well the film has a few too many clichés, and has a somewhat weak villain, but due to it's engrossing plot, great action, sense of humor, and it's nearly non-stop pacing these flaws are in general forgivable. She's certainly Ethan's match! Then there's the supporting cast who are so loyal to one another, they would die for the other and it's wonderful to see Alex Baldwin added to this very close, supporting cast. Finally, the masks, I keep forgetting about them so you never know who you're really seeing. I will continue to watch this franchise as it scontinues to entertain. Expand

Checking your logic at the theatre door as you must in any action thriller--come on, 6 guys shoot at Cruise and he walks (well runs) away while he gets 4 rounds off and kills 4 guys!--the chases whether by cars, trucks, motorcycles and the numerous fights including fists, thighs, knives along with double crosses and who’s on whose side will hold your interest.

The story, also the director, by Christopher McQuarrie is sharp, basically straight forward making it easy to follow, and includes all the standard action scenes but done with a bit more than most.

Tom Cruise delivers with a strong performance physically and emotionally while Rebecca Ferguson as either his friend or his enemy equals Cruise in all the scenes and I don’t think there is a guy reading this who would want to get in a fight with her. Simon Pegg as part of Cruise’s team gets in quite a few funny bits and lines while Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames as the other members of the team don’t have much to do but impress whenever on screen.

Alec Baldwin as the head of the CIA, Simon McBurney as a member of the British intelligence group, along with Sean Harris as an impressive villain, along with a more impressive enforcer called The Bone Doctor played by Jens Hulten and various other supporting players add to the texture of the film.

Yes you might expect Hitchcock to show up, or hear Doris Day sing “Que Sera, Que Sara”, in the Vienna State opera House or bump into Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca but there is a good feeling along with the familiarity!

“Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” is about 10 minutes too long and the underwater scene one of many illogical ones but the fact remains this is a fun adventure film that you will readily enjoy sitting back and get lost in what Hollywood does best--entertain!

Just his background score strikes into my ears and there is something big going to happen on the screen. This is enough for a cine-goer to understand what the movie and the performances of the actors are up to. ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’ as usual a spy action thriller just like his previous Mission Impossible Series. But the Screenplay treatment of this movie is very good which makes us to get locked onto the seat for 2hr 11min. As usual there is brilliance portrayal of Ethan Hunt by Tom Cruise and also from his team. One can easily guess the movie in half way but lead character’s acting domination is soul for this Rogue Nation. Here you can see the confrontation of American Intelligence and British Intelligence to stop a Rogue Nation called ‘Syndicate’ is what the entire movie is about. Though story can be guessed easily Christopher McQuarrie Screenplay and Direction impresses us a lot. Joe Kraemer’s score is life to the movie. Rest of the Technical Department is as usually good. Whether you are an ardent fan of MI Quadrilogy or not this one never disappoints you. Experiencing this in IMAX is really a visual feast for your eyes. So why late guys?? Expand

I view this franchise as decent on the whole. There's a weird, escalating liveliness to each sequel that is surprising. Still, the mission is always revealed to be quite possible and, though the stakes are more and more considerable with each entry, there is no risk or tension simply because killing Ethan Hunt and his team is the real Impossible Mission. The stunt choreography in this one, though, sheesh, it's pretty crazy. Mad Max: Fury Road still takes the cake for me as the best display of action stuntwork I've seen this year (and maybe my whole life), but there are some memorable, delirious set pieces to bask upon here. The whole cast functions fine, though I think Renner and Baldwin have been given the most mundane material, disappointingly. New addition Ferguson is really cool. She's way too sexualized and is giving only fleeting backstory, but aside from that, she is easily the most nuanced and human thing about this movie. It's ludicrous, it's all staged, but dammit, I enjoyed myself. It's a winking (and often quite funny), adrenaline fueled action movie, filmed with taste and grace, performed as well as one of these blockbuster behemoths can be, and all-in-all is worth, at the very least, your attendance.
