"Mad Max Fury Road" is the most fun I can remember having at the theater in... well FOREVER. As a long time watcher of "Mad Max" I had expected great car chases, little dialogue and lots of explosions. What I didnt expect was the show to be genuinely funny. It's SO over the top that several times during the movie my friends and I turned to each other and laughed hysterically.

I wont go into the specifics of the story-- except that Max joins up with Furiosa at some point (which we all know from the trailer). They speed across the desert while in hot pursuit by Immortan Joe and hundreds of cars, trucks, motorcycles and other weird hybrids. Add some guys on swaying poles throwing fireballs (Polecats) and a guy playing a guitar/flame thrower while dangling from chains (Doof Warrior). I dont think I want that job.

Charlize Theron is wonderful (as always) as Furiosa. Tom Hardy is a great new Mad Max (the man of few words). There is some controversy about the supposed "feminist" message of "Fury Road". I'm going to ignore those people since its not even worth a reply except to say "Yes there may be male or female leads in a movie. That doesnt mean anyone has an agenda."

In conclusion: sure the story in "Fury Road" is slim and the dialogue is clunky at times. But so what? "Max Max" is a TON of fun. Just suspend reality and hang on for the ride. You'll be glad you did.

Mad Max is great because of it's ability to keep you on the edge of your seat when you're watching two hours of people driving through the desert. The acting is great and the setting is breathtaking, it has a good script with action that doesn't ruin the dialog (*cough, cough* Michael Bay.) This movie is one fantastic thrill ride. I was quite sceptical that all the professional reviewers were giving such high marks, and thought it was a hype. I was pleasantly surprised it was not!
While the dialogue is kept to a minimum, it hits the right spots and makes it just a bit more than your average action movie. I was afraid my lady friend was not liking it so much but was happy to hear even she liked the movie!

I do not believe 3D is a necessity to enjoy. It is an intense thrill ride that is artfully done with phenomenal frame by frame visuals. I describe the movie as metal mayhem and destruction. There is not a thick plot but you quickly forget that once you are submersed into the Mad Max world and you can't escape until the chase is over and you've realized you drank your entire soda, urinated yourself in the theater, and you were so glued to the screen you didn't realize it. Certain movies come around every so often and they evoke emotions that you remember from past movies that you remember exactly when and where you experienced it. Movies like Jurassic Park and The Matrix just to name a few. They changed the way movies were made. I hope Mad Max is that movie for new films. The practical stunts and the minimum use of CGI is what Hollywood needs to do. Work on finding a good balance between the two so I actually feel fear for on screen characters. Hate it or love it but its my opinion and I put this movie in my top 10 best of my lifetime (35 years).... so far. Expand

Big Dumb Awesome Motor Fueled wasteland movie.
that's how I'd sum this up, the entire movie from start to finish is basically a heavy metal world made as realistically as possible.
Now, I've been out of the loop ever since he original mad max, but I get the feeling that the world changed since the old days, and that, despite all the stuff you're seeing and how alien the movie looks from the starting point to now, that mad max is very much not a reboot.
The movie is dumb, let me be clear here, virtually everything, the entire plot, all of it, stupid.
but it's the reason it's stupid is because the movie is using its plot as a blatant excuse to watch car armies blow each other up in a wasteland so convincingly alien in nature that it's hard to believe this place used to be earth, it feels more like mars, one of the big standout moments being the massive dust-storm which was so large, so violent that it was generating electricity.
it's clear that mad max is telling its tale through the world, and not through the main character, back in the day I recall max being a guy who actually spoke and did stuff, this later version of max feels noticeably broken, and he's quiet throughout the entire movie, save for internal monologue and him giving orders or just saying his name twice near the end.

in fact, my biggest gripe with mad max is how max himself just....isn't.
there's not much to him, and the only moment you really see him doing something badass, he does it in the background, he basically goes off to deal with the people pursuing their war vehicle at night, the air is quiet and a lot of waiting happens.
then suddenly this massive explosion, muffled by the fog in the area, resounds off in the distance, and max comes in, coated with blood and carrying a ton of supplies from the guys he just discreetly destroyed.
there's this sense that max isn't really trying, and when he finally does do something badass, it's almost scary, they don't say anything when he returns, they just move on.
Max himself is very reserved, he's not interested in helping these people until the very end, he suffers from hallucinations, and he's genuinely "Mad" as the title of the movie makes clear.
the movie's plot itself is stupid, lead chick takes concubines from warlord, warlord gets mad, goes after them, pregnant concubine dies when warlord accidentally runs her over, warlord gets madder.
near the end of the journey, the group realizes "Hey, warlord was being stupid and took his ENTIRE ARMY FROM THE CITADEL! let's go back and take it over!" warlord dies, happy ending.
Immortan joe, like max, suffers from being a background villain, he gets a decent amount of screentime, speaks more, but there's not much in the way of his character development, save for what you see in the world around him. Joe is living a lie and trying to turn it into a functional society, he's a bad guy, but for human reasons. but there's little in the way of his character outside of "shouty guy in horse tooth mask who owns people and makes them do his bidding" and that's about it. virtually every other line he has is him shouting orders, and that's about it.

Mad Max is a solid movie, not for what it tells through the characters, but what it tells through the world, and this world is masterfully created. it's a compelling look at a ludicrous, insane wasteland that shapes the people. Max himself needed more characterization, as he seems to be the only person the wasteland doesn't say much about.

It's a stupid, explosive, crazy, dumb, awesome movie that doesn't need to do much to say a lot. but when you step back and take a look at the plot, it's **** stupid.
in fact, it's the level of stupid that you just can't hate yourself for enjoying, because the stupid is the best excuse to sit back and admire the action, the craziness, the guy in a flamethrower guitar.

it's just one big dumb awesome heay metal fantasy movie, and that's all it wants to be.

I think they were not a realistic portrayal of a dystopian future due to the over-the-top car chases with over-the-top vehicles.

Premise: Max is captured by a warlord but is soon latched on to the front of a car in pursuit of the trusted oil tanker truck driver of the warlord, Furiouso (the driver), who has gone rogue and is attempting to flee from the warlord for some reason.

Pros:
1. Almost non-stop action. Great stunts.
2. Great acting from the well known actors. They even managed to get a couple of catwalk models to act well!
3. Great cinematography. Amazing scenes.
4. Thought it would be ultra violent, like many part of Spy (the film), but it wasn't. It was unnecessarily over-the-top in Spy.

Cons:
Can't think of one at this moment.

Score: 5/5 (no half score). Worth watching in the cinema and buying the DVD. I hardly ever give a 5/5. This is the movie of the year, for now.

I absolutely love Tom and Charlize but they become characters as opposed to actors. There was literally only one moment during the film where I was displeased and it was when the steering wheel comes at the screen (clearly a 3D gimmick) and it looked very cheesy. Aside from that 1 second peeve, I can't stop thinking about the film in my head. There are so many parallels to societies that the film becomes somewhat of a social commentary as well. Lastly what ties it all together is the soundtrack. Each scene is accompanied by a track that makes you feel like you are there and made me want to go out and be productive post-film. The OST really captured the immense and powerful vibes emitted by every scene in this sweet ass work of art. Fun, intense, engaging, and outright cool, this movie is definitely worth the exorbitant amount of cash that films cost these days. Expand

Spectacularly gripping from start to finish, the film showers its viewers with moments of awe and insanity, with the ability to bring them back down to earth with emotional and harshly realistic aspects. That's fine but don't hate because you simply don't understand it. The style is unique, the characters are even more unique, and the setting are down right unique. A place of only sand, water, sky, and some dirt; coins be this interesting is beyond me. Also above my pay grade which is nothing.
The movie is supposed to be set during the first and second one. Though it's crazier than any Mad Max before. This is the movie that Miller would have made first if he had the same visual effects back then. It's like a acid trip gone right. Car chases, hi octane cars, and a visual effects so that has been lost over the ages.
Practical effects over visual effects make MM the best movie of the year. The story keeps you engaged. If you loved the road warrior, then you'll love this too. The road warrior is slightly better because of it being a timeless classic but this does it justice. A movie that will have you on the edge of your sit but you will be wanting to let go and join the ride.
Again this movie isn't for people without the ability to comprehend it or those who simply don't understand. Though don't go watch it. For those fans of the original and of people who just love quality movies. Go watch it. Overall it's an awesome chapter into the amazing world of MM and will satisfy those who can appreciate an old movie in a new movie era. 9.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Flesh and metal collide in the part sequel, part reboot, post apocalyptic, no holds barred Mad Max: Fury Road. 70 year old director George Miller returns to the franchise he created, 30 years after the last outing. This time with Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, two rebels trying to survive in a desert landscape of lost humanity.

The plot is fairly simple, Furiosa abandons her duties and sets out to find her homeland, and take Immortal Joe’s young brides with her. Joe of course sets out to stop her and Max is caught up in this battle. Charlize Theron is fantastic as Furiosa, with her artificial limb and war paint, determined to find her home and reunite with what’s left of her family. Tom Hardy as Max is a man of few words, troubled by visions of past horrors. Both need to work together as they guide the fragile and beautiful brides of Joe to safety. The film has a core theme of feminist solidarity that balances well against the testosterone of Max, Immortal Joe and his War Boys. The performances from the two leads and their mutual respect is told mainly through actions rather than dialogue, exposition takes a back seat here.

Unlike previous films in the series, the budget this time around of $150 million finally matches the ambitions and imagination of the director. The sheer originality on display is impressive. Stunning photography, high contrast, warm colour palette and smooth camera work draw you into the wild west wasteland. The jaw dropping carnage of the action scenes are indescribable, Fast & Furious is a walk in the park compared to this. You must see it to believe it, but even then you still ask yourself, “Is this actually happening?” It has the right mix of CGI and real stunts that will make you think back to classics like James Cameron’s Terminator 2. And it all looks awesome in 3D IMAX. The score by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) is loud, heart pounding, epic and in sync with the bizarre but soon to be iconic flamethrower guitarist and tribal drummers who get their fair share of screen time.

Are there any negatives to the film? Only a few. Immortal Joe was fine as the main villain but The Bullet Farmer and The People Eater lacked depth, i wanted more time with them to understand their reasons for actually being part of the chase. Joe’s brides (which included Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) weren't the best performers and were quite bad at times.

So despite all that, i highly recommend this film if for some strange reason you’ve been sitting on the fence. It’s feral, dark, gritty, anarchic, surreal, just pure mayhem. Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t just any action film, it’s one that sits side by side with your favourite Hollywood blockbusters, a new classic that demands repeat viewings for it’s visual triumphs and sonic assaults. Now if you excuse me, i’m off to watch it again!

Mad Max: Fury Road is not non-stop action, but it's the closest I've ever seen to actually achieving and earning that praise. Within the first 25 minutes, you've got a chase scene fit for the finale of most films, and it just keeps building from there. The film is like the cover of a metal album mixed with guns and the greatest monster truck rally / destruction derby you've ever scene. I can't sell this movie enough. If you like action movies, you will like, neigh, you will LOVE this. Gosh . . . What a Lovely Day!

Becuase, the years we yearned for Mad Max, this dude was cooking up some serious entertainment. Fury Road is pure excellent filmmaking, the visuals are off the charts, the acting by Charlize Theron may be her absolute best and the stunts are bloodcurdling fun. The story starts out with Max (Tom Hardy), a former cop, who gets abducted by War Boys, skinny looking minions of Immortan Joe, to be their "blood bank". He ends up being a blood bank for Nux (Nicholas Hoult), a brainwashed War Boy. The story entwines with the story of Furiosa (Charlize Theron) who involves Max's escape into HER plan to take tortured girls put of Immortan Joe's captivity, to a place where mankind will thrive, the place where she was born. For the rest of the runtime, experiance Joe's minions getting in their way, for a long car chase, that glued me to my seat for some heart pumping, bloody thrills. Acting wise, Hardy makes a good Max, he has the hint that Mel Gibson had in the previous movies. The real kick is Theron, a fearless warrior, she has a dark past attached to her and the movie adapts to her story in her way as well. Hoult as Nux is not short of its kick as well. Mad Max has come a long way, Miller has crafted a new path for the Mad Max Universe, with some really interesting weird characters and Furiosa's story has more to it. But for what we have now, this is a standalone masterpiece, easily the best in the series. Fury Road puts all other acrion movies to shame. I hope Miller brings us another venture into a dark, crazy wasteland. He is a man of his word, this is a masterpeice. DONT MISS IT. Expand

What a lovely day, indeed.

Embodied in Tom Hardy's exceedingly competent hands, Mad Max has been flawlessly and unforgettably resurrected from the bloodstained sands of director George Miller's breathtaking nightmarish vistas like a phoenix and surges forth on the muscular crest of this propulsive thrill ride, fuelled by a potent cocktail of octane, testosterone, diesel fuel and masterfully rendered insanity.

Let it be said, partly as an endorsement and partly as a word of warning: for the duration of its two hour running time, "Fury Road" never relents. It exerts a special kind of hold over your senses - an experience guaranteed to burn your eyes out of your sockets and shatter your eardrums. It simply never stops - just roars and thrashes its way through 120 minutes of mesmeric, unadulterated madness. It sustains a raw and palpable tension throughout. This is the most confident and convicted reinvention of the blockbusters since "The Dark Knight". This is genre fusion - a Spaghetti western, a B-movie, a dystopian thriller, a chase and a survivalist drama. It is an examination of the human condition in the harshest conditions. It has B-movie stylings, but is assuredly wrapped in blockbuster packaging and marries the two seamlessly and perfectly. Accordingly, every technical detail is uniquely refined so that it explodes from the screen - the cinematography, editing, sound engineering, score, cohesive direction, and the performances (especially that of Charlize Theron, whose nuanced yet sensational portrayal of Furiosa is one that is immediately iconic).

No amount of hosannas however can adequately answer the main question associated with this movie. Yet I will now try to answer that question now in four words.

The question: is "Mad Max: Fury Road" worth the hype?

The answer: yes. Oh God yes.

One positive for the movie is when normally a movie franchise takes almost 10 years to make another installment it's not really good but this is surprisingly good. The characters (besides Max) are developed alright, and the supporting characters didnt seem useless. Expand

It was exciting, the acting was great, the story (yes, unlike what you've been told there's actually a story) was captivating and, while not really all that original, it felt fresh and unique in how it was told. Overall, this was very entertaining and I look forward to future installments. The negatives were that Charlize Theron has way too large of a role. Even in the trailer and promotional posters, she's clearly the star. Does this hurt the film? Not necessarily but it feels unnecessary. The story should've focused more on Max. We got almost no backstory for his character whatsoever and he maybe speaks a dozen lines. The other element that was a weak point was that some of the scenes were a bit too ridiculous. I expect some of it but not to the extent where you have a guy standing on top of a vehicle traveling at high speeds through the desert while playing an electric guitar with flames coming out of the tip. Yeah, that happens. Expand

**SUMMARY - Watch the film but don't expect a Mad Max film**
Definitely an above average film but it's merely set in the Mad Max universe, it's not a Mad Max film. There's a peripheral character who wears Max's coat and drives his car for about 5 mins but he doesn't really do much and does nothing to demonstrate that he actually is Max; he could just be some guy who stole Max's car & jacket before the film started. Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is the star and she's great but it feels like a bit of a cheat. If I go to see "Wolverine: Phoenix Road" and find myself watching a film about Jean Grey with some guy who has Wolverine's hairdo and shows his claws for 2 mins but then spends the rest of the film sitting in the background grunting while Jean gets all the screen time I'm going to be a little confused as to why the film had "Wolverine" in the title.

Fury Road is the 4th installment of the Mad Max series and is full of cars and trucks exploding...What more do you want?
But seriously Mad Max Fury Road is possibly the best Action movie to be released in the past few years. The Effects are amazing , most of witch being practical effects and only a few scenes using green screen. The use of mostly Practical effects adds to the level of realism and immersion with the film and it's great to see Gorge Miller stay true to the Original Mad Max. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron do phenomenal jobs in there rolls and keep the action and story going well looking like total badasses. The plot in Fury Road is fairly straight forward, It's pretty much a escort mission across the dessert well being hunted down by crazy people, But leave it to George Miller to make that extremely interesting with it's own twists and surprises. If you were a fan of the original Mad Max's I'm sure you will love Fury Road but if you are a new comer to the series you may not fully understand whats happening but most likely still enjoy what your seeing. There are a few slow/corny scenes in the movie that fell slightly out of place but other then those few the pacing is quite steady and good.
All in all go see Fury Road, you will most likely not regret it and especially if you are able to see it in theaters.

George Miller's long-awaited sequel is indeed a Masterpiece! If you put it in scale of 1-10, in average, it surely does manage to get over eight. And overall it brings a new flavour to the classic Mad Max series. Of Course Mel Gibson was great, no doubt, but so is Hardy!

My views are all positive on this one, I loved it. I loved Mad Max 2 in the 80's, but watching it now, not so much, but this one has me loving Mad Max all over again, it far surpassed my expectations.
The action was phenomenal, the world was brutal and imaginative. The only one thing I would have liked more, would have been to have Max talk more and show why he is a legend more, as it seems to focus on Charlize Theron's character a little more than the movie's titular hero.

When I sawed the reviews for this movie my first thought I got was "Every critic has lost their minds, even me".

The story is about a post-apocalyptic wasteland - the fight for survival has twisted the remnants of mankind, turning most into mad, vicious gangs. In this chaotic world two rebels may be able to restore order while seeking their own forms of redemption: Max, a man who just wants peace after losing his wife and child and Furiosa - who thinks finding her childhood home is the answer.

What a lovely day to be talking about Mad Max: Fury Road because the trailers and the reviews for this movie have been off the walls mad, I mean 5/5 star's wow just wow. The last Mad Max film came out in 1985 so it's a been a long time and this movie was in development for a long time as well. So I was curious and a bit shady for this movie, seeing if George Miller (The director of the original films) was going to bring to the table. Now after seeing the movie and having a long thought about it, this movie is freaking awesome, no actually this is the best action movie of the year and probably the grade.

George Miller goes back to his roots and he doesn't disappointment, after all these years later he's still got it. He filmed all the action scenes with care and effort because most of the action in this movie is practical effects and that right there shows that Miller is going back to old school action and it paid off perfectly. Awesome work George Miller.

The movie itself is mad and I mean freaking insane, The trailers don't lie. These was this one guy in the movie that was playing a electric guitar flamethrower on top of a speed vehicle and all through out the movie was rocking it out, I don't know why but little things like that made the movie so mad that it's enjoyable.

Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky was good, I mean he wasn't as good as Mel Gibson but I still think he did a great job in the movie. Most of the time Max doesn't talk all that, most of he's lines are "huh", but he has a couple of lines in the movie and it sounded epic all the time.

Charlize Theron in this movie is basically the main character of the film and Max is the supporting character and Charlize Theron was like a female version of Max in a way, because her character steels the whole show as her character is a strong female bad-ass that kicks so much ass that it's very rare in action movies today to do that. Now think of all the strong female character's in past action movies, well that's Theron character right here.

The action scenes in this movie I can best describe as incredible and also crazy. The stunt work used during the movie was pretty amazing, they used practical effects in the movie and it looked so good and much better then using computers to make something look incredible but really it looks to computer-ish, and I know they used some CG for scenes where it needed it because it would be too dangerous or impossible to do, but for the most part it's all practical effect's and THIS IS HOW ACTION MOVIES SHOULD BE DONE, THANK YOU MAD MAX FOR DOING THIS, okay I had to get that out there and sorry for shouting... but it's true.

The villain of the movie "Immortan Joe" played by Hugh Keays- Byrne and yes he was in the first Mad Max movie, but here he plays a different villain this time and a menacing one as well. He was like a mix of Dark Vader from Star Wars and Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal (Video Game). He was awesome villain that didn't take sh*t from anyone and always looked like he was going to cause trouble every time he's on screen.

The cinematography in this movie was just beautiful and some of the best looking shoots of the year. I can't believe I'm saying that for a action movie that's been in development for years and it payed off perfectly. This is very rare for this to happen as a lot of movie franchises that have been in the making for years and years would normally come out to late where every body just lost interest and give up waiting, and the movie itself would turn out not so good, but here is much different, that this movie breaks a new ground of coming out late but still being a amazing thrill ride.

The other women in the movie know as the five wives are not just there to look pretty and be saved by any man, no they kicked ass in the movie and they actually did something. The five wives were strong women and this isn't just a mans movie, I mean most of the movie is the women kicking ass and being awesome, they kick more ass then Max ever did. That's why I got to give this movie praise for that.

Now for the problems: I tried to look for things that didn't quite work for the movie and to be honest I couldn't find anything that I thought was not so good. Well there was some slow parts in the movie but the slow parts where the action clams down for now it fills it's time with character development and back story and it worked.

Overall forget Pitch Perfect 2, this is the movie you should see at cinema because as a movie reviewer myself who wants action movies to be more then turn your brain off and enjoy whatever slob mess there is on the screen, no I want a movie experience that I can look at and say "Now that's a action movie done right", and that's Mad Max for you.

First and foremost I have not seen any other MM film besides the first one so I have no other film in the series to compare to.

When I go into a film like MAD MAX FURY ROAD, I expect explosions, mayhem, violence and action! action! action! If that's what you want to see, then that's exactly what you're going to get. Now as far as finding characters to connect with emotionally and relate to in your past and present then save your money.

This film has a very cut and paste plot not at all deep or emotionally driven but again you paid to see Mad Max, not Dear John or PS I Love You. The duration of the film is spent riding shotgun with four Characters and each one is a blast.

One thing I enjoyed and hated about this film was the fact that even though Max was the title character he had more of a supportive role rather than being the driving force. It could have very well been titled Furiosa: Fury Road and I wouldn't have argued.

Does it stack up to the other films? I wouldn't know. I feel like this film isn't a sequel but rather just a tale set in the Mad Max universe that functions well on it's own. Definitely worth the price of admission

Setting in future, the plot's apocalyptic society and sexual politics are pretty straightforward; combining the insanity, hyper-accelerating and exhilarating actions without repetition of styles, all are presented in a creative way which is rarely seen in recent films. While it's not necessary anyway, the film does not have much of characters development but both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, as well as the presence of Nicholas Hoult have a great screen time of heroic performances. Meanwhile, musics by Junkie XL sound loud, tremendous and powerful (likely influenced by Hans Zimmer's style) surprisingly suit the film well, including the cool and classic cinematography by John Seale, Miller is able to deliver more than what audiences might be expecting, even with overdose f action scenes, it is still effectively balanced with emotional moments and inspiring messages. The dialogue is silly and/or unintelligible. In the handful of scenes where the film stops for character stuff, it's laughable - as long as you're looking at cars in motion, it's awesome.

It's no T2, Dark Knight, Indiana Jones or Die Hard, great action movies with indelible characters whose fates we care about. There's literally no-one to get behind in the film - Furiosa has purpose but no story - so it has its look and it's mayhem, but nothing else. At least Tom Hardy plays it for laughs - his performance brings the humour that the film needs as relief from the mayhem.

See it on a huge screen, in 3D, but make sure you sit far enough from the screen to take in the whole image without swinging your head left and right too much. Don't wait until this comes out for home viewing; this is one of the few movies you must experience on a large theater screen.

After all, the action scenes are riveting, and far beyond what the earlier Mad Max films might have accomplished with the budget and technology they had. It feels like an '80's movie in that it just doesn't give a ****, like it wasn't constructed by studio execs to play to the lowest common denominator. Instead, it's pure artistic vision.

The only aspect of the film I wasn't high on is casting. Tom Hardy is a good actor who seems perpetually miscast; Max is a better role for him than Bane or Young Picard was, but you'll spend most of the movie waiting for him to unmuzzle himself (literally and figuratively). However, I didn't think the Charlize Theron character or her distracting missing arm made the right sort of impact; I just came away wanting to see Max's next caper. Or, for that matter, more of the thrilling car action and weird touches like the flamethrowing guitarist and his war drum backup.

I will say that even though the action is phenomenal, I saw it in 3D, and that was pretty pointless. I wouldn't bother with the extra money and the glasses, just see it normal.

Some have called this film "feminist". It is concerning that Eve Ensler would be involved in anything, and if you want to, you certainly can read some hatred into the film. But really, don't all Hollywood films (and other entertainment media) treat men as the bad guys who are all maniacal, sexually aggressive and immoral and women as the innocent victims who can do no wrong, don't they all show men being brutalized en masse and then talk about how tough it is to be female? It's just par for the course. Don't worry, reality is still real, and the real world is decidedly egalitarian. This movie is a dystopian fantasy, not social commentary. Read as such, it's a fun ride.

I felt beaten and exhausted (as George Miller may have intended) well before the end. And I could not turn off my mind; too much disbelief, not enough suspension. Has any other film had as great a difference between the male and female characters? The very intense and busy action sequences were easy to follow, not confusing blurs as so many are these days, and the human (collateral?) damage was not overdone (no slow motion with torrents of blood). The trailers do prepare you for MM:FR, except for the subjective length of this very long 2 hour movie. Expand

Mad Max: Fury Road is the one film I can say is literally perfection in film. In this age/ era of film that we live in we rely so much on our EVER WOWING CGI. When it (CGI) is done so much we don't realize how much we as an just **** love seeing, something that this movie does which is what should happen more often is stick to good stunts and little CGI. Was this film filled with a bit of CGI? Hell yes. but they don't rely on it so much where we have to see it in every **** action sequence. The other thing i will give so much praise for is how much every action (or choice) effects the story in a brilliant way. Yeah you're probably think well a great bunch of movies well almost every movie does that but this, this opus is different. Think of it like this... It is a road runner cartoon. Every choice or action made gives our characters and the story so much more in description. Even if you don't figure our what are the people doing on stilts, or a man who just plays this badass **** guitar and has a whole car/ truck dedicated to that. I mean that is another part of the geniusness of this flick. They don't need to tell you. You just see it and think damn that is just awesome, which it is.

The first clear-cut masterpiece of cinema to hit 2015 is Mad Max: Fury Road.

This is a revelation that took me some time to process, for a number of reasons. I’d never seen a Mad Max film before Fury Road and had a slightly apprehensive (though completely unfounded) stigmatic preconception of the franchise as an entertaining exercise in style set to a dystopian backdrop. Even after gorging upon the first few trailers and their overflow of setpieces, I had already pegged Fury Road with almost complete foolish certainty as mere entertainment striving to compensate it’s requisite zeitgeist artifice in creative execution (basically, another summer blockbuster).

Boy, was I off base. I might as well have been spouting blasphemy. Mad Max: Fury Road is an unheralded landmark in action cinema.

I have now witnessed the chaos in it’s entirety twice and, while repeated viewings unearth initially overlooked insight about a work both good and bad, I still have the unfettered urge to see it again in theaters, maybe even for a fourth time.

Where to start? Well, Fury Road is a confection of such sheer magnitude that it is truly difficult to process my overflowing wealth of praise into a cohesively formatted analysis. Granted, I have gathered a few necessary complaints, both microscopic and less so, but the easiest place to begin would be the most tenacious element of Fury Road: the action.

DEAR GOD. Not since **** I can’t remember when) has a parade of such ultra-violence been delivered so unburdened by constraints on both a technical and imaginative level. From every color of the spectrum that makes up the filmmaking process there is groundbreaking work.

The effects work, widely touted for their practicality and absence of excessive CGI, are incendiary (quite literally). The few applications of synthetically altered imagery to be found here not once feel like the crutch, or even the backbone of the film for that matter. Rather, they are applied only when necessity rings. A chase through a flurrying electric sandstorm is the only exception I can make to this statement and, let me tell you, the grandeur, beauty and hulking menace of the almost biblically scaled digital creation warrants the technical splurge. The rest of the film, however, Miller opts for real explosions and heavy stunt work, alongside unique, idiosyncratically crafted production, costuming, and makeup, to serve as the primary aesthetic component of his masterpiece.

There are just SO many exorbitantly decked out pursuit vehicles and quirky, yet lethal makeshift weaponry and SO many detailed, distinct outfits applied to the numerous primary and peripheral characters manifested through vivid makeup and costuming, that it’s consuming this very sentence. I love what the guys over at HitFix said in there coverage of this film about how the visual design of each character speaks volumes about who they are and the kind of completely realized world they live in.

The cinematography is another elephantine achievement, something of a fever dream, really. To have crafted such and elegant presentation overflowing with personality is one thing, but DOP John Seale has captured Miller’s maximalist dystopian canvas with gorgeous, graceful camerawork. Some of the shots achieved in Mad Max: Fury Road astound in the fact that they even exist. Seale films under and over and inside and outside these exhaustingly terse chase sequences with and absolutely GODLIKE clarity and uniformity.

The editing job by Margaret Sixel is a fierce, remorseless work in cinematic refinery. She holds a shot long enough for us to bask in the spectacle, but judges the rhythm of the picture so keenly that every set piece has an opportune chance to amaze. Character interactions via expositional conversations (however few there may be) are edited rapidly, exercising the film of any extraneous dialogue or needless indulgence in this, its weakest aspect (I had to cite one at some point). Fury Road is a brisk 2 hours flat. It more than deserves that runtime and it is devoid of clutter or bloat for that duration.

I could spout zealous praise for Mad Max’s technical merit MUCH further, but sparing regard for the stunt-work present here would be an egregious malfeasance. Simply stated, Fury Road features an array of the most tireless, galvanizing action choreography to grace the multiplex. The not-joking-around, legitimately harrowing coordination of actors in the face of these continually escalating death-machines enlivens cliches perennial to orchestrated violence.

Max is chained to the front of deranged Volkswagen Beetle during a prolonged chase scene, helplessly whipped back and forth at high speeds. Men on vaulting poles, propelled by careening assault vehicles launch themselves at our heroes from atop their wobbling staffs. There is a hand-to-hand chainsaw fight. Countless droogs propel themselves across cars wielding fire-bomb tipped spears. It's bonkers.

Well,
I'm an old guy, so I remember the first films quite well. The original one that started it all was the best and then the ones that followed were more and more Hollywood...more concerned with bigger, louder, and just more, more, more.

Well, after reading a lot of reviews I gave the new iteration a try. While it certainly was entertaining, it had none of the original's charm. It is really just much bigger, much louder, and much, much more. Max is arguably not even the main character.

If you buy into the "more is more" that defines Hollywood action films these days, then you will probably enjoy this. However, if you want character development and an interesting story pass this one by.

One particular element I thought was handled poorly was Max being haunted by all the people he could not save as a former cop. Those memories were handled more like an Asian Horror flick than actual bad memories...right down to the little girl whose face and voice transform to creep you out.

I signed up just to make it clear to people who are interested in the action movie mad max is that this movie will note take your hand and walk at your side all the way explaining things to you like you are retarded. There is a lot of reference and small details that really makes the experience of the movie special.

I just find it funny how people create a bunch of fake accounts just to try to put a stain in the movie's image. Then I checked the profiles that seemed a little more original and they underrated another great movies while overrating really mediocre ones. Some people even claimed that the movie hasn't a plot, no story and ended asking why they all started running with their cars in the first place, ha ha. Must be a joke.

Anyway, I'll blame the natural divergence of tastes to keep things polite.

It is the Die Hard of the modern age. You might be saying, Dangerfar, what in the hell does the German takeover in NY have to do with an apocolyptic showdown? Well, settle down, I'll tell you. They're fun dumb action movies.

It's a wild and tense ride from beginning to end, with scarcely any let off the gas. The cinematography is top notch, as is the costume design and score. The visual and audio experience are visceral and intensely compelling, unified in a striking and powerful way that will get the blood pumping more than most movies can.

The character development is, well there's not much character development. It does what I'll call the hurry-up character somewhat effectively though, which is seemingly becoming increasingly common these days. As movies like this emerge, which are essentially one long drawn out action scene, there quite simply isn't time for meaningful dialogue or to really get to know or feel for your characters. The good and bad guys are laid out well enough though, and there's enough random flashbacks to let you know this place is hell and Max is a good guy that is tormented by the world he lives in and some people he couldn't protect, so really its suffice.

All this to say, for what it is (an action movie), it is very well crafted indeed, and among the best in recent memory. When compared to movies on the whole though, or storytelling in general, or sci-fi (which for some reason some people seem to classify this as, it is not even a little bit sci-fi), it has a shiny veneer on a rather drab interior.

I was left speechless when this finished. It can be hard to describe indeed.... but I'll go for it...
Even at the beginning, there's no hint MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is going to a stop. Right at the very start, the engines are already rewing, gathering furious fires of vengeance and redemption, and before the audience could snap out of the sheer moments of brutal grittiness and exhilarating high-octane drama, they are surely already held hostage within the confines of a post-apocalyptic world, where everything is horrendously scarce. Not that it's a bad thing, no it's not. I tell you, this is like being hurled into the space in a roller-coaster ride. It's dangerous, but it's also thrilling. Witnessing this dystopic world and all its hellish drama unfold might make you grope for seatbelt under your seat.

What a Lovely Day and What a Lovely Movie! This is just beyond expectations! There is nothing easy or predictable about what George Miller delivers with Mad Max: Fury Road, a stone-cold action master class, beautiful and brainy and startling in the ways it throws off the current definition of the blockbuster. There is gargantuan excess here, to be sure - and no shortage of madness - but there is also an astonishing level of discipline. Come for the blistering, full-tilt action, stay for the thought-provoking consideration of the post-apocalypse. The world of Mad Max has always been welded together from bits of whatever was lying around, and the films' brilliance has always been in their welding - the ingenious ways in which their scrap- metal parts were combined to create something unthinkable, hilarious or obscene, and often all three.

I haven'tMad Max Fury Road is directed by George Miller starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult and is a continuation to the Mad Max series making this the 4th film. Ladies, Gentlemen, Mad Max Fury Road, was Mind-Blowing. I haven't seen such amazing action sequences in a movie since movies like the Indiana Jones Trilogy, Aliens, Die Hard, Terminator 1 and 2, Kill Bill Vol.1 and 2, and the Matrix! This movies action is unbelievably revolutionary and original that it will make you so pumped to see the movie again and again. Now what makes this movie feel so unique, and so action packed, is its beautiful shots and smooth paced action shots. The big plus is that most of the action in this film is made by practical effects! Lately we have been watching lots of movies with unbelievable amounts of CGI, which is not a bad thing in some ways. I enjoy CGI once and a while it can sometimes be amazing and sometimes terrible. I recently saw Avengers 2 which was full of CGI and I hugely enjoyed the film. But the practical effects in this film were by far better than any of the CGI effects ever released out in the Cinematic Universe!

Characters - Tom Hardy plays Max who is a man mentally troubled by his past, trying to find a path of hope through a futuristic post apocalyptic deserted world. Tom Hardy as Max I felt was a really good cast, especially since Hardy has been doing hugely well in his career. I didn't though feel like his character wasn't too impressive, but he still did a great job as Max. Charlize Theron plays Furiosa a women who is trying to escape with a special group of (I won't spoil what) cargo. She was a really badass character in this films and was a surprising addition to the Mad Max Universe. Nicholas Hoult plays Nux who was honestly my favorite character in the film because I found him the most relatable too. Nux is a member of Immortan Joe's settlement known as The Citadel, but later tries to ally himself with Max and Furiosa. Nux is corrected man who believes that he is destined for something great. I felt Nux was the most emotionally touching character that you can truly care for. Hugh Keays-Byrne plays Immortan Joe who is the main villain who I felt was a pretty badass villain in the film. He wasn't anything real special to the film, but I think he is a terrific addition to the Mad Max series.

Plot - The plot is overall pretty simple. Furiosa is trying to get away from the settlement "The Citadel" with a special cargo when she later runs into Max who doesn't know whether to ally with her, or not. While this occurs, warriors from the Citadel chase down Furiosa throughout a straight through action packed, consistent film. This movie is straight forward action, there's not a ton of dialogue but it works and leaves the audience drooling with "Ahhh".

Score/Soundtrack - I'm not really big on listening to a musical score in a film, but in this film the score is so pumping and exhilarating, you can't help but notice it. Like in Indiana Jones, there is consistent music that just pumps you up and makes you really really excited. This film had that kind of score that can greatly improve your enjoyment for the film.

Action Sequences/Special Effects - The action and effects in this film is what makes Mad Max Fury Road, Mad Max Fury Road. The action in this film is so well directed with smooth and beautifully paced camera-work. Amazing stunt work that just can't make you not geek up and get excited. There was a man with a electric guitar that shot out huge flames playing on a truck with huge surround sound. Tell me that's not awesome!!! The practical effects in the film made me so amazed. Every shot you saw in this film could be a humongous poster that you can put on the Movie Theater walls. Every shot you see you can look at with "Wow" because its so beautiful and awesome! There's this one shot in particular that shows most of the vehicles lined up with a very mixed color sky background that was probably the most enjoyable landscape shot I have ever scene in a film. I am going to see this film in Theaters so many more times just to see the action in this film.

Pros: -Great Casting -Fabulous Action Unlike Anything! -Amazing Effects -Great Casting -Motivating Original Score -Beautiful Landscape Shots -Interesting Narration -Very Unique to Many Action Films of Today

Cons: -I COULDN'T FIND ANY!!!!!!!

Hype. Had no expectations, went to see it because of the rave reviews. The action wasn't as non-stop and fun as some reviewers claim. Only positive I can say is your mind won't be thinking about something else while watching the movie, sometimes I guess that's what movies are for. Left the theatre feeling "Hmm...nothing great". It is one of those films that, years from now, people will ask each other if they saw it on the big screen when it came out and lament that they missed it. The term "masterpiece" gets used far too often, but I can think of no other word to accurate describe this sublime amalgamation of pulpy multiplex movie action and masterful technical film-making. From its lavish production design, to its exquisite cinematography, tight, disciplined direction, exceptional stunt and physical effects work, sharp editing, and its brilliant, booming soundtrack, Fury Road is a joy to behold for anyone who is lover of the art of film and/or a lover of action.

In many ways, Fury Road is the anti-blockbuster; its almost as if an indie arthouse film murdered a Hollywood blockbuster and is wandering around wearing its skin as a disguise. Nowhere is it's daring, atypical approach more apparent that when one considers its narrative design of minimal dialogue with a strong focus on visual storytelling, and its surprisingly subversive narrative, which is biting in its criticisms of toxic masculinity, capitalism, and humanity's disregard for its dependence on our environment.

Fury Road's other great strength is it characters, who all struggle to find purpose and a meaning for existence in a world gone mad. A truly outstanding performance by Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa serves as the focus around which the rest of the film is built, and what a performance it is. Theron conveys an array of emotions with few words and a masterful display of physical acting, saying more with her eyes than many actors could with a page of dialogue. Tom Hardy is also highly skilled in this style of acting, making him an ideal choice for the taciturn and slightly deranged Max, and if one is being honest, he works better in this role when he doesn't have to speak at all. Nicholas Hoult is also outstanding as Nux, who is both the heart and humour of the film, and it is his character that has the strongest arc across the narrative.

It's deep ideas, interesting characters portrayed by skilled actors, presented in such an unusual and thoughtful way, combined with its exceptional visual presentation, make Fury Road a truly significant piece of film-making that takes its place among the truly great action films ever made.

The plot is pretty straight forward, you get ejected into the story, which is amazing, no need for a long explaination, and you can still watch this without ever have watched any of the old ones. (you still should though). Oh my the characters in this are crazy and amazing. I really loved that on the one hand, this is an amazing Actionflick, and on the other hand, there are so many themes and depth to this film, I won't spoil the fun.
- It took a 70 year old man to give us a great action film, we needed this. Thank you mr. Miller. Havn't been this eager to watch an actionfilm again since The Raid 2.

No other action film since Matrix can touch this beautifully orchestrated epic. George Miller is on another level entirely. Went to see it twice and the second time was actually more enjoyable!
