This time they’re Montana ranchers, who set out to rescue their young grandson when his mother disappears with her new husband. This starts as a quiet tragedy about grief and loss, but SLOWLY turns into a somewhat frightening thriller, as they discover the truth about their new relatives. Actually, the final few minutes ramp up the friction to “screaming at the screen” levels. The actors are all solid with Lesley Manville creating an especially fearsome smiling matriarch. Director Thomas Bezucha has given the parents plenty of time for interaction, sometimes frustratingly so, but there’s a thread of the couple’s undying love that runs under the underlying sense of malevolence that continually pervades the drama. This movie is a welcome break from the frenetic, manic, self-conscious and market-driven entertainment that is so abundant. I watch that other stuff, but it's tiring the way politics is tiring. I watch that other stuff, but it's tiring the way politics is tiring. Let Him Go is a movie that feels real because the dialog is so spare and the characters are in highly dramatic circumstances of the sort that ordinary people find themselves in. Of course, the stars are more attractive than most people I know. And if we had another half hour of movie time to use, I would have appreciated more development of the back story of the bad guys. But this was a rewarding movie-going experience with a good story, good acting, beautiful scenery from Montana and South Dakota that is hardly ever featured in movies I watch, the values of middle America, the courage of ordinary people, the evil of ordinary people and a realistic time piece set in the late 60s. Beautifully done. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good movie. He's so calm. The ending is too fast. It was necessary to increase the timing by 15 minutes, and then slowly, slowly and a sharp end. and the actors really played well! Expand

This was a lot darker than I expected and there are great performances all around. Kevin Costner is usually the leading man, but his understated performance really compliments Diane Lane's lead. Shocking and heartbreaking, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Surprisingly engrossing Kevin Coster, Diane Lane film that's well made and builds to a realistically satisfying conclusion, makes a nice change from a lot of the drivel we've been fed of late - 9 stars

I liked this movie. I liked both Kevin and Diane. They did a great job! The film reminded me of Kevin's " Dance with wolves. I learned the dark side of American history. Overall, I liked the good plot, actors and beautiful mountains!

This film seems a little slow and without too clear a direction at the start (at first I wondered what the story was and was curious what the film title alluded to but all becomes clear by the end) but it certainly packs a punch by the end. This film seems a little slow and without too clear a direction at the start (at first I wondered what the story was and was curious what the film title alluded to but all becomes clear by the end) but it certainly packs a punch by the end. It's a dark (literally and thematically speaking) watch and ocassionally its gritty. Once the plot picks up pace, there's quite an effective sense of threat felt. The cast give decent performances and while perhaps the themes covered aren't entirely original, its a pretty memorable film I thought, so I'd say its worth a watch. The dark lighting may cause an issue for some if your watching it in a brightly lit area as I found myself struggling slightly to see what was going on in some scenes but thats perhaps a relatively small niggle, as it were. I would recommend this film, yes. Expand
