The YELLOWSTONE fans should get their kicks, the family drama and (kind of sudden) action bits are entertaining. Lags a bit in the middle but worth a recommendation if you think it’s up your alley

It wasn't as compelling as I thought it would be, but I think it was ok enough. Expand

Having personally never been the biggest fan of Costner, I do enjoy neo-westerns quite a bit, so I ultimately decided to check it out. And while it has some tense moments, the film proved to be a bit more of a slow burn than I anticipated. Things moved at a snail's pace for the most part for me. The acting from all involved also seemed a little stale to me. Storywise, it felt like nothing I haven't already seen before, and despite a tense final act, it wasn't quite enough to justify the rest of the film or its pace for me, not to mention a resolution that felt a little forced. Overall, Costner fans might appreciate and get a little more out of it than I did, but that still doesn't take into account the slow pace and straightforward and generic story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sorry contains spoilers. I was disappointed in this film. The critics were way too generous. It’s wonderful to see Diane Lane and Kevin Costner together again. Both bring a lot to the table and give solid performances in this film. The slower pace and character driven script were both refreshing given what’s currently available. The reason I was disappointed was the realism of the script. There were scenes that didn’t make sense or ring true. I was frustrated with some of the responses and where the script took the audience. I found myself rolling my eyes at how unbelievable some of it was. If my husband of decades was shot and killed I would not leave him in a burning house and drive away with only a few tears (and an ex daughter-in-law I had little connection with), even though I had rescued the beloved grandson. There was a man with her when she discovered her dead husband, why didn’t they pull him out of the house? Lane should have been more distressed with his death just as Costner should have been more distressed when he discovered his dead son. The deaths felt trivialized to the point of distraction. Expand

The movie is well made. Not a shocker since Kevin Costner is in it. However, if youve ever lived around trashy white people, this will trigger your PTSD. At least the ending is good. It's violent.
