The voice acting is also very good with Sean Bean, Aaron Paul, and Lena Headey. The movie's combat/action was also very good and enjoyable, but then comes the plot. It's very bland and generic. I'm sure the game will explain and tie up loose ends. But overall if you are a fan of Final Fantasy or like CGI action movies you should try it out cause it's worth your time. Expand

The movie is just not fun to watch, I got bored of it less than half way through.Anyway, as I said in the beginning I hope the game is nothing like this horrible movie, because honestly my expectations of FFXV have been lowered significantly after watching this.

I am a fan of the series and anxiously awaiting the game for which this movie is a prequel to. That said, I enjoyed it. However my problems with the movie were the weird facial expressions for the characters. It looked very "stiff" for lack of a better term. I know they used motion capture and since they did, I expected it to be much better, but the character's faces are just off whenever they speak. I felt myself looking to the side of them, not directly at their face because it just felt too awkward. I think Advent Children's animations were more fluid, and facial expressions less awkward looking.

Another issue was the poor voice acting, although most of it was for side characters. The important people like Nyx, Luna, Regis, all sounded superb, but goddamn Libertus was the worst of the bunch. He constantly sounded as if he was speaking with food in his mouth, and seemed like he was a mouth breather. Every time he opened his mouth to speak, I was wishing he'd hurry up and close it.

Plot was pretty lame I guess. If you've been following the game you already know how the movie will end, generally speaking, in regards to what happens to Lucis/Insomnia. I also couldn't really understand the villain's motivations. It seemed to me that they had there loyalties mixed up and fighting on the wrong side, and this was constantly brought up by Nyx himself, but the villains' responses were still kind of vague, as if the scriptwriters themselves believed that the villains' reasons for fighting wasn't good enough. The villains' just babbled on about how they were right and Nyx was wrong, yada yada. I felt they gave poor explanations. Ravus' role was extremely disappointing and mediocre. Practically just cannon fodder.

The best part about the movie, of course, is the visuals. As I stated, I don't like the facial expressions of the cast, but everything else, the city buildings, cars and other vehicles, the castle. All the environments were beautiful and intimately detailed. The action scenes were also great but was also one of my qualms. It's hard to tell exactly what is going on in those fight scenes. It still looks really cool because you see sparks flying off swords, and magic being cast. But trying to tell who just got hit in that fight, or how did that guy get behind the other, is very difficult, and if you blink, you'll miss a lot. However, the final battle, the most important one, was very well executed and choreographed. It was much easier to tell what was happening, and was just epic. As for the fight itself, I give it an 8, although the entire movie gets a 6.

Overall, yeah I'd recommend it to fans of Final Fantasy and maybe action fans. It's just that due to its prequel nature, I think it can be hard to get into. The main character Nyx was quickly developed. Backstory quickly thrown in in the middle of a fight, and the movie is a bit hard to follow. Everybody else is pretty much insignificant. Most people who see this would probably wonder who the heck is Noctis, why is the crystal so important, why is this country (Nifleheim) taking over the other countries, etc, and only way to get answers is to play the game. But that's the point of the movie, to draw in people to play XV. So with Kingsglaive's vague storytelling and cliffhanger ending, it's definitely bound to reel some people in.

Also, small personal qualm I had. Tabata kept saying how Luna was a strong character. Imo, she played the typical FF role of heroine who needs people to keep saving her over and over. Luna is a grown woman, not a teenager like the other FF heroines. She has no excuse to act so helpless.

CGI: good
Plot: I don't get w.t.f is going on
Action: drag too long

This is just another final fantasy spirit within. Square enix should quit this already

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. cgi is great but the plot is your basic re-shoed FF plot complete with boring scenes of politicing nonsense vacillating between war and peace. If you've played any recent FF game, you'll know that peace never works out becoz the bad guys are gonna gore you in the azz. too much talking and plot points that offensively occur off-screen just knock this movie down. The characters are over-dressed as usual(Tetsuya Nomura can go to hell) and a lot of them are stupid/predictable becoz the plot demands it. its basically like the other prequel type games SE has done to milk the fanbase. You have sorta-likable protagonist but since he/she is just plot-fodder for the real main character/s in the actual game you cant really be invested in any of them. The movie even constantly reminds you that the protagonist is not the hero, Noctis and his phagsquad are the heroes in the upcoming game. Luna is annoying, totally lacking any personality she just keeps droning on about her duty is destiny blah blah blah. The movie ends on a sad note and the stinger at the end makes me wish I was playing Nyx instead of Nocits becoz that wouldve made more sense. Also why the hell are the people gathering in huge crowds just to watch a treaty signing? lots of annoying FF-cliches also for grizzled veterans of the serious including a foppish grinning evil chancellor who you might as well expect to pull a Kefka in the upcoming game. By all accounts it can be a little jarring fro those who are not used to Final Fantasy's weirdness. Also, the acting is really bad. This movie is best watched in the original Japanese as it plays out like a good anime. Its visually striking and if you are open minded the old dungeons and dragons feel mixed with modern day setting will be interesting to you. The Characters are likeable but the plot is a little thin and obvious. But then again. What were you expecting. If you watched this movie it was probably in preperation as an introduction to the game. Which it serves its purpose for. It's essentially a very long cutscene to the game and in that regard, for fans, it was great. I enjoyed it. But it still doesnt hold up to a great movie. Hence the 6 I granted it. Expand

There are too many characters, too many names, and it's a bit too confusing overall. I just watched it and I didn't really retain what happened. I have been playing epic RPGs and JRPGs for my entire life, and haven't had this problem... I think it's just trying to cram too much into too short of a time.

Main characters' voice acting was great, but the dialogue was a bit stilted. While this made it feel more like a traditional JRPG, it's not a good move for a movie.

I'd rate it higher if they came up with some new ideas, but this whole "Empire/magic/technology/ships/destiny" thing is getting old.

Overall, it's meh. I wouldn't even try to understand it and just watch for the visuals.

But I tent to think about it as a really long intro to the game. I don't treat it like a full-fledged film, although it's sold to us as such. And so I can let some of things slide. Like not so great animated side characters or characters that aren't developed enough. But as a prologue to video game it works pretty well. It's far from genius but it's not downright horrible either. Meaningfull characters are set up just right and we have enough time to understand conflict between game empires. Thanks to this Final Fantasy XV seems to have better start despite smiliarities to XII (which was hard to comperhend at firtst). It's good at what it's meant to be but as full feature it falls flat. Sometimes it looks amazing, sometimes just so-so. Also I don't think it's worth full price for BD. Still it's better than average. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If only this story had only been written into the game.
This movie looks great, and it is star studded, but it is flawed in a couple of ways. First of all, Nyx is a descent protagonist. I believe Aaron Paul did an amazing job. Sean Bean also did a great job. Most of the actors were great. There are so many clumsily written scenes. Libertus is just so poorly conceived and executed... But the fact that if this had been in the game as a sort of intro campaign, it would have made the final game so so much better.
