Maybe the plotAmazing movie. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a fan of the series for the past 18 years, but Square Enix is always ready to give us the best and top quality when it comes to CGI, and a magical world with action and a good plot. Maybe the plot itself in the movie is a somewhat JRPG cliche plot or have been seen again in past FFs, but look at some other movies with almost the same plot over and over again and gets praised and high scores. There's always some bias going around somewhere for those.

It's a spin-off/prequel movie of course, but it paves the way for Final Fantasy XV, and it makes you feel some attachment to the main characters in the movie, even if you know you may never see them again. Usually for me, movies are rushed, then it makes it hard to feel attachment to characters too much, but this movie certainly did it for me.

The plot isn't all that confusing if you are paying attention, while some might just want to sit back and enjoy it for the beautiful action. The movie is good on delivering both.

This is one of those films that you either love or hate. I was on board and glued to the screen from the very first moments until the credits rolled. Characters with humanity, a story with emotion and some of the most amazing visuals ever to be integrated into a full length film. A lot of people think this movie would only spark interest in fans of the Final Fantasy game series but I disagree. It's an extremely well written, well animated, well acted action/fantasy film that anyone can enjoy. Check it out. Expand

If you're used to animated films that were not created by Disney / Dreamworks you know you can not expect too much of them. It was with this thought that I began to see Kingsglaive.

However, the facial expressions mostly, but also the drama before the action starts, the focus on the feelings and opinions of some characters made me see this movie with other eyes.

Let's not talk about the stunning visual, that everyone has come to expect from Square Enix. The animation fails in some movements, but overall it was very well captured and reproduced. Few scenes seemed strange.

The film kept me excited all the time and really captured some of the key elements of the franchise Final Fantasy: Crystal, Magic, iconic monsters, references, high tech, Chocobos (written as imprints at least), confrontation between good and evil, some gray areas (FF had many thieves and murderers as heroes).

I recommend a FF fan watching Kingsglaive? Certainly! And if you like animation, rich and detailed visual? Also! If you like Fantasy and technology (mecha)? Do not miss!

My score to the film, even if it is not perfect, it will be 10! 9 by the film, and 1 point for being a movie about my favorite series of games!

With the reviews i saw this movie had i went in expecting a dull, incoherent mess of a movie. To my surprise I found a beautiful, exciting, action packed fantasy that i thought i would never see in my lifetime. The voice acting apart from one or two spots was something to behold. Stellar performances from the cast, that gave life to all characters! The fighting scenes were unlike anything i have seen in a movie before. Wonderful combination of magic and swordplay, with the addition of teleporting to your weapon adding a fast paced, exciting maneuverability. The music went hand in hand with all sequences, with my hair standing up on more than one occasion i can easily say that the soundtrack will be playing in my head for a long time! I see consistent reviews stating it was convoluted and didn't make sense and that the voice acting seemed off. Neither of those are true. There are the occasional side character whose voice acting seemed a bit forced but still not anywhere near as bad as I've seen. As far as the plot, it throws you straight into a huge battle sequence with no knowledge of why they're fighting, who the glaive are, etc. From there it does have an almost frighteningly dull 20 minutes or so where not much is going on. After the first 35 minutes or so of the movie it shines, I mean blew me away. The animation was so gorgeous that sometimes I almost forgot I was watching an animated movie. Just breathtaking. The story picks up, gets incredibly exciting and explains very well who the hero's of the story are and why they're doing what they are. There are twists and turns and I can honestly say that the majority of the movie I could not guess what would happen next.
All in all it was an extremely great experience for final Fantasy fans, action movie fans, and drama seekers alike. To summarize a wonderful movie with a terrible intro.

For the normal movie-goer, they'd probably hate it and I doubt they'd get more than 15 minutes in. But, if you're a gamer, a fan of Final Fantasy and have been following all there is to follow to do with Final Fantasy XV (and have seen the animated series on YouTube), then you might just love it.
This 'movie' is really like a massive cutscene. It is the prologue to the events in the game, it won't tell you about all the characters, it won't tell you the history of the world it's set in. It is entirely focussed on setting the scene for future players of the game. If you plan to play the game, then watch the movie. If you have no interest in the game, then the movie is not for you.

The graphic part shines throughout most of the movie, and "shines" literally through the unprecedented in 3D movies light effects. Impressive are also the great expressiveness of the characters, showing even the smallest (and very carefully made) facial gestures. The quality drops in very isolated moments, yes, but overall the graphical work is superb.

The music does its work, but it honestly could be better, especially since Final Fantasy sagas are so full of beautiful and memorable soundtracks, which are kind of missing in the film, but surely that will be heard in the game. The voice acting is fantastic, and it surely is an invitation to play the future game in english and not japanese like we are so commonly forced to.

The "professional" critique bashing the plot only makes these critics seem, well, unprofessional. The purpose of the movie is to serve as an introduction to Final Fantasy XV story, and it honestly does a great job both in serving it's purpose and in keeping us hooked throughout the whole movie with something that, even if fans already knew roughly how it all would end, was not predictable at all in the development of events. Nyx is a fantastic protagonist, Regis doesn't dissappoint a bit, and man these villains know how to keep things insteresting. Of course fans will find some easter eggs for them too.

A film with the most high production values in graphics, interpretation and music. I have some doubts before to watch it but since the film is beginning all the doubts where forgotten.
The story have an excellent rythm, i was before that of half the film when I grew fond with the characters and also regret for the loses of some secundary but charming characters.
A film full of action since the beginning, a great story that lays the foundation for the game which is close. but dont fear this film has his own end and character development reach a satisfactory end with most of the film characters, although others will have a biggest path in the future, a future that some of us will experiment with a not less impressive videogame in this year.

The movie is worth the watch for its CG alone. An enjoyable experience for JRPG/final fantasy fans, though it will disappoint casual moviegoers looking for solid storytelling.

Kingsglaive is a groundbreaking moment for CG fans with its amazing realism and well made motion capture. It shows us what the future of JRPG is capable of doing. I really hope others will follow and create something similar with other movies.

The characters in the movie are a mixed bag. Nyx and Regis were well animated (especially Regis). Lunafreya sometimes felt cold and expressionless. The rest of the cast could've definitely been given more polish with their animation.

The action scenes were great though cannot be considered epic. With all the great 'goosebumps-inducing' scenes in FF and KH series I was a bit disappointed that the battles weren't choreographed better.

Square enix has traditionally been great in creating worlds though sometimes stumble on storytelling. Now with a time limit of 110 minutes to tell a story instead of tens of hours with a game their weakness becomes apparent. The motives of the characters were at times convoluted and some of the actions taken were questionable.

The movie has successfully created the hype for fans to play FF XV; though not enough for the non-gamers and moviegoers to get into JRPG-style fantasy story.

"Kingsglaive" creates a gateway for fans and audience into its visually fantastic world, yet the muddled plot can be exhausting despite the effort to make it accessible.

There's no denying the graphical barrage "Kingsglaive" constantly throws for nearly two hours is brazenly stunning. The vistas are absolutely marvelous, its characters look eerily lively and the fights are utterly unworldly. With all of these mighty productions, it's still vexed by occasional choppy pace and sporadic hop in screenplay.

The story is delivered in a sci-fi fantasy realm. It's a very politically focused tale and it does try to deliver many subplots and characters, no doubt a foundation for the game's world and its splendor. The problem lies as it often skips from one scene abruptly without giving the audience much sense for the flow of time or the clarity of vital motivation. It's all dramatic in presentation, yet it can feel a bit muddled, more so since it's quite the lengthy showing.

Characters are relatively well done, especially the ones with famous names. Usually the dubbing in English for such production looks jarring, but here Lena Headley’s or Aaron Paul’s voice is implemented properly. The lip sync is fine and there's a boon on having fantasy oriented voice for the cast. A minor flaw would be the dialogues or sound effect don't convey the sense of urgency at times, but it's mostly understandable.

The visual ramps up as the battles progress. These are very hectic occurrences, the fast cut can leave audience wandering on what transpires on the screen since there are many effects and motions cramped into brief composition of scenes. However, when it retains the focus or follows the action, it is arguably one of the most eye-popping spectacles from animated movie.

The sheer graphical prowess produces an entirely captivating world, even though it stumbles on overly complex narrative or overly fast editing.

I would very much like view continue history in next film but I understand that it will not be.... this is sad

This movie as a back story to Final fantasy 15 really sets up the main game. It's not really needed but it does make things a bit more clear as to why you are where you are in the beginning.

Deutsche Review - Kritik

Eigentlich was cooles.
(TIPP: Schaut nachdem Abspann weiter.

Was ich sehr schön finde.

Nyx is strong and emotive while the chancellor of Niffelheim and the King are highly believable. Unfortunately some of the supporting cast is not as convincing. 7/10 Animation: Absolutely mind-blowing. The attention to detail is obsessive, environments are realised in lustrous fashion and characters look lifelike. I can only fault the mouthing of the characters not being an entirely convincing conjunction with the voice acting. 10/10

Writing and Plot: Solid overall but unless you're at least a bit clued up on FFXV lore before you watch the movie you could miss a lot. A shame since I feel that the story is quite heartfelt albeit a bit cheesy. The writing was good but in some places there are noticeable inconsistencies. 7/10

Conclusion: A short review, I know, but the effort and the lengths that have gone into realising the FFXV universe in this 2-hour action packed behemoth are saluted and thoroughly appreciated. It was absolutely awesome and had me riveted all the way through. Kingsglaive reinforces the notion that the value of the whole is synonymous with the sum of its parts.

The characters were interesting but none of them will leave me with a lasting impression.
The strongpoints were most certainly the voice cast, the animation quality and the action scenes. It was a really fun movie and if anyone is interested in final fantasy then it's definitely worth checking out. I'd also strongly recommend the much better final fantasy brotherhood - an short anime series introducing the main characters of the game.
While not worthy of a 10 I gave it one simply because I disagree with how poorly reviewed it is here. It's really more of an 8 out of 10.

Even when flying by during fast-paced action setpieces, the attention to detail is apparent. It's far and away better looking than Spirit's Within or Advent Children. Where starts to stumble is with the muddy story that never seems to really gel between plot points, and the boring main character. In theory the story is well-thought out, and the political intrigue with the fully realized world is interesting enough to keep you going, however what is really disappointing is the walking stereotype of a main character. He has no defining characteristic besides the goofy haircut. Thankfully the characters you see in the game like the King and Lunafreya manage to keep it from being disastrous In short it's a movie I recommend you at least watch once to get into the amazing universe of FF15, it's gorgeously realized if a little cliché Expand

Early in, the voices seem detached from the characters but this resolves itself (according to IMDB the voice actors were recorded separately from the motion caption actors.I only just found this out so i'm not 100 percent on that) and I didn't like the ham fisted Shakespearean side villain Ardyn Izunia. Seemed cliche. That this is a prequel to an upcoming game is the icing on the cake. What a treat.

if your getting final fantasy 15 its ok to watch but it doesn't really have anything that's a major plot spoiler its more of, here's what happened before which leads into another story. they really only have this small war that connects them.
If you don't watch the movie you wont be missing out on anything.

In my opinion I wish they made it into a $30 game. To run around as a king's glaive jumping from location to location all while assassinating and or just stabbing/hacking/slashing at enemies in an actual war.

BTW if you play Final Fantasy 7, in this movie they do have Diamond Weapon in it like twice,

Too bad the script is so predictible and generic, and the story is nothing more than a thin excuse for a lot of action sequences that add up to nothing more than a reallllllly long trailer. Mix in all the bad CG, which is even more striking when it is on-screen at the same time as the high-detail characters, and anime tropes, and the end result is a watch once and forget experience. This should have been a free download with the game, nothing more.
Though there is some good voice acting, but again, there are only a few of those mixed in with mediocre to poor performances.

I should have trusted the professional reviewers, but saw a clip that only had the high-quality CG and fell for it. Well played.

Sounds familiar? It's the basis of nearly every human war, resources control, being it slaves, to gold, to oil, etc. Hour history is full of similar wars and this movie manages to portrait it with something so alien like magic and crystals.
The plot twists far from unpredictable but they never seam to try. They exist to had complexity to the story instead of shock.
The characters are mostly well written, every one has an ideal and the "bad guys" can easily be understood. Every one is fighting for what they believe in.
Graphics are great, voice cast marvelous, music impeccable.
Final score, worth a buy.

I am a huge fanboy for the Final Fantasy series. Overall, I did like the movie. The animation was done very well and my god were there a lot of flashy particle effects. One thing that really impressed me was the motion capture of the facial expressions. It's really difficult to capture those subtle nuances that really help a film.
The story was.... a bit convoluted and somewhat cliched. IT's probably a bit difficult to understand if you're not already familiar with Final Fantasy's history OR even some of lore behind FF XV (even though it's not been released). Never-the-less, I personally enjoyed it and it's nice to have a prologue to the game.
One of the things that annoyed me the most was one of the primary voice actors. The main protagonist could be a bit dull at times but this person was SO annoying to listen to at any time they spoke. That really dulled the experience.
Again, I did really like this movie. I can see how the experience could be subjective; more likely than not, it will be appreciated more by people who are already fans of the series and anticipating the game. Having said that, that subset of people are the ones that would be watching to movie anyway. So, if you already want to see the movie you'll probably enjoy it.

I am a fan of the series and anxiously awaiting the game for which this movie is a prequel to. That said, I enjoyed it. However my problems with the movie were the weird facial expressions for the characters. It looked very "stiff" for lack of a better term. I know they used motion capture and since they did, I expected it to be much better, but the character's faces are just off whenever they speak. I felt myself looking to the side of them, not directly at their face because it just felt too awkward. I think Advent Children's animations were more fluid, and facial expressions less awkward looking.

Another issue was the poor voice acting, although most of it was for side characters. The important people like Nyx, Luna, Regis, all sounded superb, but goddamn Libertus was the worst of the bunch. He constantly sounded as if he was speaking with food in his mouth, and seemed like he was a mouth breather. Every time he opened his mouth to speak, I was wishing he'd hurry up and close it.

Plot was pretty lame I guess. If you've been following the game you already know how the movie will end, generally speaking, in regards to what happens to Lucis/Insomnia. I also couldn't really understand the villain's motivations. It seemed to me that they had there loyalties mixed up and fighting on the wrong side, and this was constantly brought up by Nyx himself, but the villains' responses were still kind of vague, as if the scriptwriters themselves believed that the villains' reasons for fighting wasn't good enough. The villains' just babbled on about how they were right and Nyx was wrong, yada yada. I felt they gave poor explanations. Ravus' role was extremely disappointing and mediocre. Practically just cannon fodder.

The best part about the movie, of course, is the visuals. As I stated, I don't like the facial expressions of the cast, but everything else, the city buildings, cars and other vehicles, the castle. All the environments were beautiful and intimately detailed. The action scenes were also great but was also one of my qualms. It's hard to tell exactly what is going on in those fight scenes. It still looks really cool because you see sparks flying off swords, and magic being cast. But trying to tell who just got hit in that fight, or how did that guy get behind the other, is very difficult, and if you blink, you'll miss a lot. However, the final battle, the most important one, was very well executed and choreographed. It was much easier to tell what was happening, and was just epic. As for the fight itself, I give it an 8, although the entire movie gets a 6.

Overall, yeah I'd recommend it to fans of Final Fantasy and maybe action fans. It's just that due to its prequel nature, I think it can be hard to get into. The main character Nyx was quickly developed. Backstory quickly thrown in in the middle of a fight, and the movie is a bit hard to follow. Everybody else is pretty much insignificant. Most people who see this would probably wonder who the heck is Noctis, why is the crystal so important, why is this country (Nifleheim) taking over the other countries, etc, and only way to get answers is to play the game. But that's the point of the movie, to draw in people to play XV. So with Kingsglaive's vague storytelling and cliffhanger ending, it's definitely bound to reel some people in.

Also, small personal qualm I had. Tabata kept saying how Luna was a strong character. Imo, she played the typical FF role of heroine who needs people to keep saving her over and over. Luna is a grown woman, not a teenager like the other FF heroines. She has no excuse to act so helpless.

This movie was never supposed to be a complete tale, although I must confess I'm rather disappointed with the path the story is taking. Technologically advanced empire taking over a magical one with hidden potential? they've done it in FF XII,FF XIV and FF type 0 and the first two were abysmal (story wise), I can only hope they don't mess this one up but even then something new would've been better than repeating a tired and at best mediocre setting.

Well if in terms of story. In both series Kazushige Nojima not create something rupture / epic in the making of the story. nothing special because of the story line still can be guessed audience or can be guessed that failed plot twist. story concept and theme of the story as the films I've ever seen before. In some scenes might be enough to destabilize the liver but is not so effective. From the whole story I just like one scene where eloquence / negotiation of the main character tested. The scene of the action is still lacking sepecah Final Fantasy Advent Children. Yes but there are some typical action Kingsglaive. In terms of visuals? do not in Tanya again. Artificial Square Enix is no less good with home-made Disney Pixar, Dreamwork and others. Some of the environment, especially the interior looks realistic. About the Lightning, Materials, Animation, VFX is far more advanced and good if compared with FF Advent Children can people amazed, scratch your head even diem clay aj it all. Most of the Music and Sound Effect is enough but there are some scenes Background musicnya does not quite fit with the scene and did not even help raise the feel. One shortcoming of Director here and maybe some of the audience could merasakanya namely in terms of camera movement. Yes I know this is an action movie. All the movements are very fast, a lot of action in each scene the audience feel confused because they do not find a POI (point of interest) in the shot. Because of that some of the scenes we do not know which friend or foe: 'D. About the duration of the film is enough. Rating Personal reply from my overall 8/10. If the story is developed better and not fixated on FF15nya games later. Maybe it could be so much better / best animated action this epidemic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. cgi is great but the plot is your basic re-shoed FF plot complete with boring scenes of politicing nonsense vacillating between war and peace. If you've played any recent FF game, you'll know that peace never works out becoz the bad guys are gonna gore you in the azz. too much talking and plot points that offensively occur off-screen just knock this movie down. The characters are over-dressed as usual(Tetsuya Nomura can go to hell) and a lot of them are stupid/predictable becoz the plot demands it. its basically like the other prequel type games SE has done to milk the fanbase. You have sorta-likable protagonist but since he/she is just plot-fodder for the real main character/s in the actual game you cant really be invested in any of them. The movie even constantly reminds you that the protagonist is not the hero, Noctis and his phagsquad are the heroes in the upcoming game. Luna is annoying, totally lacking any personality she just keeps droning on about her duty is destiny blah blah blah. The movie ends on a sad note and the stinger at the end makes me wish I was playing Nyx instead of Nocits becoz that wouldve made more sense. Also why the hell are the people gathering in huge crowds just to watch a treaty signing? lots of annoying FF-cliches also for grizzled veterans of the serious including a foppish grinning evil chancellor who you might as well expect to pull a Kefka in the upcoming game. Kingsglaive FFXV should have honestly been the opening for FFXV itself. Regardless of that fact, the movie itself is pretty decent for a game related adaptation.

Incredible visuals, overall. Scenes with no people felt completely real. Scenes with people were ok, but lacking in the facial movement.

There are too many characters, too many names, and it's a bit too confusing overall. I just watched it and I didn't really retain what happened. I have been playing epic RPGs and JRPGs for my entire life, and haven't had this problem... I think it's just trying to cram too much into too short of a time.

Main characters' voice acting was great, but the dialogue was a bit stilted. While this made it feel more like a traditional JRPG, it's not a good move for a movie.

I'd rate it higher if they came up with some new ideas, but this whole "Empire/magic/technology/ships/destiny" thing is getting old.

Overall, it's meh. I wouldn't even try to understand it and just watch for the visuals.

But I tent to think about it as a really long intro to the game. I don't treat it like a full-fledged film, although it's sold to us as such. And so I can let some of things slide. Like not so great animated side characters or characters that aren't developed enough. But as a prologue to video game it works pretty well. It's far from genius but it's not downright horrible either. Meaningfull characters are set up just right and we have enough time to understand conflict between game empires. Thanks to this Final Fantasy XV seems to have better start despite smiliarities to XII (which was hard to comperhend at firtst). It's good at what it's meant to be but as full feature it falls flat. Sometimes it looks amazing, sometimes just so-so. Also I don't think it's worth full price for BD. Still it's better than average. Expand

Not sure what the critics are smoking here. This is better than 90% of the marvel trash films they fawn over.

Non Final Fantasy fans can easily watch this movie and understand it. The plot is simple and clear, which is about politics, schemes and redemption. The movie fleshes out the Final Fantasy XV story in a spectacular way, and runs in parallel to the early parts of the game. The action is awesome and epic in scale. The characters are well acted, too. The CGI graphics are beautiful and stunning, even if they don't look as realistic as some Hollywood blockbusters, but this was never the point about this movie anyway.

The only really bad thing about this movie is that a couple of characters are plain stupid and senseless in their motivations. I also have 2 minor complaints. One, some things are never explained. Two, unfortunately Kingsglaive and Final Fantasy XV aren't perfectly aligned in their backstories and the whole mythos. But if you haven't played Final Fantasy XV, you won't notice.

All in all, a solid 8/10 in my humble opinion. I can't see why Kingsglaive got negative reviews from the press.

Expand

Needs a bit of streamlining and an extra 10 minutes runtime and I'd bump it to an 8 (or perhaps even a 9).

great addition to the Final Fantasy XV game, more than just a needless stupid movie like FF7AC which is pure fanservice, the game expands the lore, and is great for lore expansion if you only played the pocket edition.

The best start to play a game is some good CGI-animated movie with excellent graphics and good narrative. And this movie is a great example.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simply an amazing prowess. The visuals and scenes are majestic. The facial acting is really surprising and close to reality. Motion capture at its best. Choreographies and special effects are particularly superb. There is only few scenes in which the characters' bodies appear to have some inhuman angles and curbs but you have to look at it rally close.

The story is original and catchy, the scenario is cool yet complex. It is not far from to the Final Fantasy universes, but maybe too close. As we expected it is all about two kingdoms in a fight, a princess to save, an intriguing artifact and badass warriors with some magic powers. In its originality then the movie is classic. You just have to get used to the Final Fantasy lore.

The pace of 'Kingsglaive' is kind of weird. When a character dies we barely have the time to figure it out that the action is already on its way. Scenario triggers seem to appear suddenly and often in the middle of a fight. This gives the movie a strange continuity and the feeling of being interrupted in the middle of something is often here. Unfortunately lacks of some romance quest.

Ok so this movie is not perfect, but it is a perfect prelude to a marvelous game. Love visuals, plot is interesting, there are a lot of things that don't have conclusion in movie but in game, which may be a con for some people. Music is excellent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing graphics, Music, characters and world building. This movie is made for some hardcore final fantasy fans and is a great way to help people understand the final fantasy XV game, especially since its main flaw is the background of the war between Lucis and Niflehiem, there are so many amazing character moments that me on the edge of my seat. Nyx Ulric is such an amazing character and the movie does characters like Lunafreya and King Regis justice (Especially since the game barely has them regulating them to side characters)

Admittedly during the first 40 minutes i was ready to quit but as soon as Nyx figured out that Niflehiem was planning something and that score came on i was hooked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If only this story had only been written into the game.
This movie looks great, and it is star studded, but it is flawed in a couple of ways. First of all, Nyx is a descent protagonist. I believe Aaron Paul did an amazing job. Sean Bean also did a great job. Most of the actors were great. There are so many clumsily written scenes. Libertus is just so poorly conceived and executed... But the fact that if this had been in the game as a sort of intro campaign, it would have made the final game so so much better.

An absolute masterpiece that will go down as a classic that you'll want to watch again and again.
It is impressive, the story here is actually better than the game it's based on.
I'd wish we would have these level of graphics in a video game.

The film's animation is impressive, with highly detailed and beautifully rendered environments and characters that bring the world of Eos to life. The voice acting is also top-notch, with performances from well-known actors such as Aaron Paul and Lena Headey that add depth and emotion to their characters.

The film's story is engaging and full of action, with plenty of epic battles and plot twists to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. However, the plot can be a bit convoluted at times, and those who are not familiar with the Final Fantasy XV universe may find themselves lost in some of the details.

Overall, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is a must-see for fans of the franchise and those who appreciate stunning visuals and thrilling action. While the plot may be a bit confusing for newcomers, the film's incredible animation and top-notch voice acting make it a worthy addition to the Final Fantasy universe.
