I am usually fond of French movies and have high expectations if critics reviews are favorable. One of few good things about this movie is that it is relatively short: 77 minutes.
What else is good? The girl, Charlotte, is so sweet. Actors performance is decent. That's about it. The movie is pretentious, shot in black-and-white. The script does not make much sense, characters actions are not reasonable. Not much of a story, not much of a form. I did not feel any empathy towards any of the characters.
Overall: do not waste your time and money.

My rating is not exactly a rave but the 2 things I most liked: 1. Mouglalis, 9 years younger than Cate Blanchett of whom she reminds me but w/ dark hair. Mouglalis, 9 years younger than Cate Blanchett of whom she reminds me but w/ dark hair. Her character (in this) super-neurotic but super-irresistible (great combo, of course); and 2. the black-and-white photography, by a Belgian who is new to me but not new.
The film is relentlessly low-key in a way that's bound to make some people dislike it. For me, not the greatest thing since French toast but my feellings about it are tentative but not dismissive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A French film, Jealousy tells the story of a man, Louis, in the loves of his life through glimpses of everyday life. This storytelling method was unique and fresh – certainly pleasing to watch.

A certain aspect of the story is lost, though, when there is no clear narrative. Louis became a fully developed character, yet those around him were distant and unfamiliar. I enjoyed the acting here. Claudia and Louis's daughter were enchanting in a way I can't quite put my finger on. They seemed free, they seemed natural. While their story of angst and complicated love may have become convoluted and to the point where their acting careers had no meaning to me and the suicide attempt did not even make me take a second look, I loved watching their walks and the little girl's witty banter. The big picture aspects of their life were dull and uninspired, while the small details were utterly fascinating.

Jealousy was a mix that I've never quite seen before. The use of black & white film added to the coldness and apathy that we eventually see in Claudia, after all, jealousy was never meant to be warm.
